Speaking of Ar Tonelico, should I play the series? What's its appeal besides the music?
...
>can't even disprove me
I love Nier, but those three songs are the best ones by far in the whole OST, the others are simply "good" instead of "great".
Earthbound/Mother
Touhou
Yume nikki
What needs to be disproven?
Ok here we go user. The only thing I care about in this cruel cold world is Nier and anime.
The only """bad""" song on the OST is City of Commerce, but even that is pretty great
>The only """bad""" song on the OST is City of Commerce, but even that is pretty great
What the fuck did you mean by this?
>"if you like _____ i'm going to dumb my bald men fetish folder"
City of Commerce is just an acoustic version of Hills of Radiant Winds. I like both those tracks immensely, but City of Commerce is disappointing considering it doesn't do much for an entire new town
>i have redditjaks saved to my computer
I'm going to agree with him just to spite you.
To be fair, the only decent town in NieR is Facade, everything else is painfully bad.
I thought your hometown and Seafront were pretty comfy, although I agree Facade was actually interesting.
seafront is beautiful you bastard
Sometimes I wonder if I actually liked the game, or the music just fooled me. If we removed Nier's music and replaced it with a generic score it would probably be bad.
The game on a technical level is incredibly mediocre, however Nier is more than its individual elements.
>if I actually liked the game
If the music made you like it, then you still liked it
HELLO
World of warcraft.
Zelda
Metroid
Final fantasy
Pokemon for gameboy is pretty impressive too.

From what I recall, Kaines theme played more during sad scenes than Emils song
I legit checked out this one on youtube, before replying. It's bretty good, but far from best. Any franchise below has a better soundtrack
heroes of might and magic / might and magic
TES 3 and above
Unreal / UT franchise
Deus Ex
Hitman
Yes, because only white people listen to this whiny faggot shit and claim its good.
I don't remember getting lost, but I remember returning so many times for the fucking cores you need for both upgrades and sidequests. I think you could get a maximum of 3 per run or something
You have the wrong thread buddy, you wanted to post this in >>Constantly going back for cores and shit

I've heard WoWs OST you goofy, it's alright but nothing special
A videogame soundtrack has to go with the game. Wow soundtrack is incredibly well done and moments like walking in the plague quarter or deathwing fight are made incredibly good by it. The soundtrack by itself is amazing, diverse and full of original ideas.
>nothing special
Unironically the best ambient/background music in vidya.
Nah, Emil Sacrifice is in pretty much every sad scene post timeskip.
I've never seen a more pleb list for any other subject than this right here
Ar nosurge isn't Ar tonelico.
The characters, stories and the worldbuilding. And you miss out a lot by not seeing the songs play in their original context.
automata is better.
just saiyan.

talking about good franchises

This kind of ignorance never fails to trigger me.
>Halo isn't a franchise
What the fuck are you on about
>muh secret club
>you can't discuss automata unless you also played jank ass ps3 exclusive from 10 years ago
There's like 6 out of 46 songs that are shared between games and Automata's arrangements make them sound incredible.
I like when shit eating hipsters don't know what they are talking about.
>Automata gets criticized
>Hostile drones instantly arrive to whiteknight it
Find "good" in the OP
Ar Tonelico, but it's very close.
>post retarded bullshit
>get blown the fuck out for it

You sound pretty pretty upset my friend.
why hasn't this been remade for ps4/pc like ff12? it would sell like hotcakes after automata
Most Automata fags are ironic weebs or sexually frustrated waifufags. I doubt they give a fuck about Nier 1. As soon as they see that the maincharacter isnt some badly dressed animeslut they will lose interest.
can't really blame them, aside from the taro touch and ost, most of his games are chores with terrible gameplay
>What could've been a comfy Nier thread devolves into shitposting
Not again
The Metal Gear Solid series really doesn't have great music aside from the main theme.
The Best Is Yet To Come is pretty fantastic
Blame Automata, it exposed Nier to contrarians
I feel like I’m going mad as I prefer Automata above NieR. Tarofags always say Automatafags ruined threads, but all I see are insecure Nierggers crying about how their game isn't more popular.
It isn't so much Automatafags, it's just people who bought Automata without understanding what the series is.

why are hipster faggots allowed here?

Did a new wave of 12 year olds decide to move in or something? Why is everyone stupider than normal? Music threads were actually a bastion of quality.
>implying that was the point I was making at all
It's faggots like you that ruin Cred Forums
A bunch of teenagers played Automata and thought it was the greatest thing ever because they've never experienced any great art in their life.
Therefore, everything NieR has those kids infested in it.
No idea what happened, but I'm disappointed now.
To get it back on track, does anyone have a large Watchers logo?
youtube.com
youtube.com
youtube.com
Mainly the music was good in MGS1 (I don't know track names or I would link them) and MGS2. MGS3 was good but had a lot of silent moments between the music, while MGS4, PW, and V are all terrible.
But MGS1 and 2 are among the GOAT.
Find a better music for jogging, I dare you
>it's just people who bought Automata without understanding what the series is.
So, newcomers? What's wrong with that? You didn't see DoD1fags shitting on newcomers to NieR did you?
No, I have no problem with newcomers and in fact welcome them. The problem is arrogance
I can't do this alone
Even though I am strong
Need something more than me
Someone to push me to victory
Let's see what we can do
Together, me and you
Can't be afraid to try
Kiss your fears goodbye
No looking back
You and I, we're on the attack
Full speed ahead
Running to the sunset
Such a different feeling
Both of us believing
We can make it better
Together we can show the world what we can do
You are next to me and I'm next to you
Push me on through until the battle's won
No one’s gonna give a thing to us
Into each other we put our trust
Standing united, after the fight
All alone, we will never be
The two, of us, are holding the key
We see, today, a world we couldn't see
Before I say goodbye to you
One more last fist bump
I know you have been afraid before
But you don't have to be anymore
No more emptiness to feel inside
When we work together no one can break up our stride
No looking back
You and I, we're on the attack
Full speed ahead
Running to the sunset
Such a different feeling
Both of us believing
We can make it better
Together we can show the world what we can do
You are next to me and I'm next to you
Pushing on through until the battle's won
No one’s gonna give a thing to us
Into each other we put our trust
Standing united, after the fight is done
We can show the world what we can do
You are next to me and I'm next to you
Pushing on through until the battle's won
No one’s gonna give a thing to us
Into each other we put our trust
Standing united, after the fight is done
Its a brand new day
We have turned the page
I never knew how much I needed
Somebody to help me this way
All alone, we will never be
The two, of us, are holding the key
We see, today, a world we couldn't see
Before I say goodbye to you
One more last fist bump
So why do those Japanese composers do "Western" music better?
?
Absolutely none of the games you quoted have 'western music'
Hell you quoted Ys, the PC-98 is definitely japanese
>The problem is arrogance
Elaborate. It's not arrogant to think that someone unironically thought Automata was one of their best gaming "experiences". Arrogance is the fact that fans of the first NieR shitting on Automata and the newbies that came with it. Look user, I won't deny that before Automata's release, NieR threads were chill and fun. However, putting the blame solely on Automata for shit threads is extremely unfair.
It's arrogance from people who don't want to go into the franchise and instead shitpost, it's just a shame Automata brought this on. Those sort of people are generally underage shitposters
Drakengard has the most intense OST I know, the droning and dissonance really set the tone.
Drakengard 2 was absolutely awful in every way besides a few moment and its OST.
Nier had a tremendous OST.
Drakengard 3 had an extremely good OST too.
Haven't played Automata yet, and have barely listened to it so can't tell.
The Ys series also has a very nice OST.
DoD3 actually turned me the most emotional of all the games in the series. Ending D got me hard, knowing that it was all over. I hope somewhere somehow Zero is still there with Mikhail. ;__;
No, "Japanese music" is like this.
There is one thing that's awful about Drakengard 3
My name is Mikhail my name is Mikhail,
I'm not stinky dragon
What
>t's arrogance from people who don't want to go into the franchise and instead shitpost
Wait how do you know this? What if they're just shitposting even if they've played every game? You're making a lot of assumptions. Are you a hacker?
I know all
Fuck off
Nier games are a fucking slog to go through, only people who were really into the writing were obsessed enough to go through with this shit.
I ain't gonna deny that automata bought a lot of a retards but you gotta be fair man.
If I liked automata and want to appreciate the rest of the series which game should I play next? Do I need to play Drakengard? Are Gestalt and Replicant actually different games?
I'm a big Tarofag so this answer assumes you're as autistic as I am.
Play Drakengard 1 and 3, 2 has nothing to do with anything. Then play Nier. Gestalt and Replicant were different versions for Japan in which the main character was either a brother or a father. The west only got the father Nier version which imo works a lot better. If you can't get through the Drakengard games, which I want to emphasise I cannot blame you for, there is a document called NieR Grimoire that explains everything.
Thanks. I really enjoyed the storytelling method, lore, and philosophical implications of N:A and want more. Time to dust off the PS2 emulator and get to work. Are there any plans to re-release Drakengard 3 for the PS4?
THIS SOUNDTRACK IS ALL I FUCKING LISTEN TO AT WORK
>Bidogaem sound track
>Good.
As far as I'm aware no, but Square Enix let Taro do pretty much whatever he wants and Taro is a madman, so who knows
Shadow of the colossus has a better ost

I prefer the jap version of it, but you are right, figured it's posted frequently enough as it is, even Drakengard 3 had a remix of it.
No. The answer is no.
This thread is making me want to play Drakengard again, but I don't know if I can go through that terrible gameplay again
So do I, but I couldn't find it on youtube. Luckily I have the OST
>Tfw the drakengard general in /vg/ is gone
I dunno about a franchise, but here's the best piece of videogame ost you'll ever hear:
youtube.com
This is wild. Is the game worth playing?
Nah, it's trash.
>disrespecting Katamari soundtrack
Evergrace and Drakengard are probably the only games whose creators had enough balls to use purely experimental music a soundtrack.
Don't tell anyone but I rank City Ruins just slightly below Song of the Ancients for the best NieR track.
>best NieR track
>not Shadowlord
I'm telling everyone, jackass.
When you think of NieR, what's the first song that pops into your head? That's right, Song of the Ancients. It's basically the NieR theme now, fight me.
No disagreements there. Doesn't make bidogaem OST good tho :)
Emil Sacrifice you goofy or Hills of Radiant Winds
I understand that, lad. But that doesn't make it better than Shadowlord, even if it is god tier.
>Mfw I like Shadowlord's Castle/Roar more that Shadowlord itself.
Silent Hill 2 OST is kino.
Every variation of Shadowlord is god tier my dude.
>That song when you fight the 2 Pyramid Heads
Maybe Ar Tonelico but Nier average track record is better I guess
I just beat the game last night, it was amazing.
Ys.
Good, generals are a poison
youtube.com
I gotta play the rest of the Ys games, I've only played Chronicles and Celceta
Wrong
Acceptable opinion, its hard to choose a favorite
Also acceptable
Really really wrong
Mix hag, i would consider those games with great OST but still bellow Nier
Why is Ys music so incredible?
>not even a battle theme
>not even a cutscene theme

Don't get me wrong, I love Nier's soundtrack but it doesn't fit the game as perfectly as the music in Umineko does
This was one of the tracks that got me into the series. See you again is amazing
youtube.com
Do I need to read Higurashi before Umineko?
More disgusting is close-minded idiots like yourself.
Though Ar tonelico does employ actual constructed languages, and the lyrics to the songs do have relevance to the plot, characters and setting.
this
no but it improves your experience if you read higurashi first
there are 3 somewhat important characters that you won't fully understand until you read higurashi, but other than that and the tons of references you can easily start with Umineko(I know I did) since they are 99% unrelated and very different, but it would be better to start with Higurashi
In the end, it's your call
Make sure to get the PS3 patch for whatever version you use, and if you use the steam one then skip all the OPs, they contain spoilers

I can't be the only one who prefers the "oh shit you gotta keep moving" intense feel of the OST in Ys 1, 2 and Origin over the generic epic guitar songs the rest of the series tends to have right?
>Surge Concerto
Cred Forums didn't disappoint today
I feel like everyone who heaps praise on the soundtrack just does it to fit in. Honestly never thought it was anything special for either game, in fact it got extremely repetitive at times.
I like em all, they're always great. Really liked a lot of Ys 7's tracks in particular. Those field themes were the shit.
>This post
Oh dear
I cried a couple times playing Nier, solely because of the OST. Shit's good, man
What's wrong with Emi Evans? And Sonic music is great but that track you posted is complete garbage.
