>shoegaze
>clearly a Bob Dylan album cover
Why isn't this ever talked about even though it's clearly better than Presence?
Wow I almost didn't think anyone else shared that opinion with me.
Honestly, Presence has no songs that as as bleak and emotionally effecting as Hubble, has no hooks as good as The Hermit Crab, none that have such a focus on satisfying melodies or good pop songwriting like every single one on this album does.
One HUGE HUGE HUGE reason Presence can never live up to the album it is trying to imitate (you know which one that is) is because the song writing is nowhere near as purposeful. Here he fixed up his songwriting and got rid of the noise. It's much more psychedelic and much more memorable because of that.
Also, he split up the filler noise tracks into a few untitled ones instead of placing 12 minutes of useless ambience in the middle of the fucking album.
Liking this album.

Should I go see Lush tomorrow?
yes
Finally listened to Nowhere and I felt it was the best of "the big 3" (based on first impressions of all 3)
Where should I go next? Isn't there a flowchart?
Tell us how it is too.
I was listening to Wild Nothing, Beach Fossils and Beach House and they all seem like light version of themselves. Like they have found a great idea but didn't go through with it to the end, just meddled with it a little
what are the full-on version of them?
Chapterhouse, Luminous orange, listen to the album in the OP too
Cocteau Twins
A Place to Bury Strangers' Exploding Head

So Broadcast is dream pop, right?
seconding luminous orange
Here
where should i start with broadcast?
Their first album.
Or if you're into Christmas jingles, Haha Sound.
Not that they play Christmas carols on that album, but that's kind of what it feels like a lot of the time.
So is ride ashamed of their britpop phase or what?
Slowdive vs. Ride
Who's new release will be superior?
im expecting slowdive to try to recreate their souvlaki sound instead of continuing where they left off with pygmalion so I'll say ride's gonna be better
i don't like ride that much though
Was anyone else let down by this?
shugazi... i lost all my music in a hard drive fail ;_;
139 gigs... someone hold me

*holds tightly*
*backs up files*
I'm seeing them next thursday. Let us know how it is.

Hey, how about Pastel Blues stuff?
I actually don't have anything by them, been meaning to look into it though so thanks for reminding me
I grabbed this last thread, thanks for sharing it. Super chill.
Do you have Cosmicdust's EP?
Anyone have Pluramon's "Dreams Top Rock"? One of their songs, "Log," appears on Prefuse 3's t5 Soul Sessions mix, and it's really good, but I can't find the album in the archive or anywhere else online.
The song in question:
Someone rec'd this a fee months ago, ended up checking out their s/t, good shit

I think he's talking about the one called Enjoy Everything.

This wasn't supposed to be shoegaze?
What do people think shoegaze even is now?
I'm sold, cheers.
...
According to Zoe Camp, sure
Probably, because it was terrible
What do you guys think of this?
I like it, but it's like music that would be pretty much completely uninteresting if the sounds of their voices and tone of their instruments weren't so undeniably pleasant.
Anyone checked out those reissues of The Verve's first EP and two studio albums?
Don't care for it much
Only good thing verve did was their s/t ep.
Do you have Coaltar of the Deepers Dog EP? The only ones i can find on soulseek have a weird crackling noise in the songs.
Try this one out
COALTAR OF THE DEEPERS –DOG e.p. [1999]
>J-rock, shoegaze

Thanks, but it's still there, a lot less noticeable though in comparison, must have something to do with rip floating around, though the youtube version of C/O/T/D is nice and clear.
Do you usually hang out in shugazi? I'm the guy who lost all his music and if I ever have a hard time finding some stuff, like Pastel Blue, when you get it, it'd be nice to have your collection around. I appreciate the help
I usually open and watch the threads if I see them

nice digits and a nice share
Are there any songs/albums that sound like Loomer? For me its the pinnacle of this genre, and I love embracing that immense sadness I feel when I'm listening to it, but its still just one song.
What are some shoegaze songs with acoustic guitar like Sometimes
and Kick the Tradgedy?
this general is nothing like the rest of Cred Forums, how the hell do y'all stay sane and civilized?
the thread's always on the verge of dying
this unfortunately
anyone know of any good ambient shoegaze?
Haunter-Astrobrite
I'm in need of shoegaze where the vocals are completely inaudible. Yeah I know it's a funny thing to request in a shoegaze thread but I'm looking for stuff similar to Coldplay's Chinese Sleep Chant where it's completely infeasible to understand them instead of when you kinda can't understand them.
She Found Now off of m b v is a mix between Sometimes and Loomer
Swirlies - Pony is kinda like Loomer and To Here Knows When
youtube.com
There's also the entirety of The Moon and It's Melodies which imo is the dreamiest Cocteau Twins release (yes more so than Victorialand)
If you're good with vocaloid this album's worth your time for sure
Track 7's the definite standout, but it's worth checking the rest of it as well
re;mo –nanairo [2012]
>vocaloid, shoegaze, very fuzzy
mega.nz
this album is a masterpiece in its genre
don't overlook it cause its vocaloid
this kinda sounds more like loveliescrushing than astrobrite, sounds nice though
this sample sounds pretty sick, ty for link
yeah, I'm not too into vocaloid, but the noise makes up for it
I went through their discog and was surprised how good everything was. I assumed they fell off after they dropped the dream-rock sound but they transformed pretty tastefully. Even Urban Hymns has a lot of great songs and some cool guitar work.
Do you have anything by tokenai namae?
nah, I'd have to check them out too
Purple Pilgrims - Eternal Delight
>Dream Pop, Synthpop,

Hey, I'm trying to get into shoegaze. I guess I'm what you'd call a punk or whatever, since I buy into the whole punk fashion and ethos and listen to mostly punk music (specifically crust and hardcore).
I'm tryna get into shoegaze, and I was wondering if anybody had any reccs based on the kinda shit i like now? thanks.
DIIV
Maybe the new No Joy EP
who /nodrugsever/ here?
when did the ironic straightedge meme start
Try My Vitriol - Finelines. Probably the best example of "punkgaze". A lot of shoegaze has "post punk" influence though
Definitely. Report how good it was, I'm thinking about seeing them when they're near me
Drop Nineteens - Delaware
maybe you'd be into Grandfeathered by Pinkshinyultrablast

I agree almost completely. Elizabeth Colour Wheel, however, is a damn intense song. One of my favorites from the band.

This compilation is gold. Too bad a lot of the best artists featured on it are impossible to find
Wasn't too bad, really.
Not seeing Lush hehe
I don't like them enough to justify the cost/time spent
then listen to Split,Sweetness and Light
and if you want more,Spooky
lately ive been getting really into shoegaze, ive hit most of the big ones and I dont really know where to go next
so far ive listened to mbv, kairon irse, ride, slowdive
I think pastel blue is on soulseek. I have it so it's either on their or theres a mega link in the archives.
Checked it again, and you're right the other demo set is there. Thanks, i guess earlier he wasn't on.

check out this chart
...
Yeah, that was kinda a faggy way to phrase it but I couldn't think of anything better at the time.
Thanks lads, that'll give me enough to listen for the weekend.
>Will Ride BTFO Slowdive?
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
no
Thanks, downloading all this stuff now. I appreciate it.
...
if Slowdive puts the 2nd part of Pygmalion and Ride comes with a pre Carnival of Light/preBritpop era record,I wouldnt imply anything
gonna listen both with interest though
My personal recs -
Sweet Trip - Velocity Design Comfort (closer to dreampop and glitch/idm but still great)
Kinoko Teikoku - Eureka
My Dead Girlfriend - Underdrawing for the three forms of unhappiness at the state of existence
Beach House - Depression Cherry (dream pop)
Swirlies - They Spent Their Youthful Days in the Glittering World of the Salons.
To Kill a Petty Bourgeoisie - The Patron (a lot closer to noise rock but Ive seen it on shoegaze charts so idk)
Is there any political shoegaze?
...
I would be surprised if there's much. Shoegaze and lyrics dont exactly go.
there's no such thing as black orchids > only shallow
Yeah, I figured as much.
So I tried shitting together a flowchart for Japgaze
Gonna need feedback on this one
I love Glitter. Breakbeats is my morning alarm
Is there music thats like Grouper?
kill yrzlvz
Hey, listening to Kinoku Teikoku right now, its really amazing. thanks for the rec.
There's like no organization at all on this
F.
Here you go m8 youtube.com
this is great, thanks user
Alright, give me some pointers
I've listened to them plenty, that's the problem
and the opener is in one ear out the other
At least when I went to see Slowdive, Asobi Seksu was opening (who's great) and I liked a couple Slowdive songs just fine so I went
I like Lush much less than I did Slowdive
Julianna Barwick
Time to start an alt-right shoegaze group
We're going to build a wall... of sound.
Fuck that, FULL SOVIET SHOEGAZE
i think Whirr did that
i'd join/support
post noisegaze
...
more like this please?
I can't think of any. The whole point of shoegaze is just "lets listen to this beautiful music, possibly while tripping or stoned"
Why is Lift To Experience so underrated?
Cause they broke up after one album.
What's going on with their reformation though?
Anything else in this vein? Like Bowery Electric and Pure X.
youtube.com
thanks for the chart, if it isn't on soulseek, where should I look?
You can always search the Cred Forums archive to see if there's a MEGA link
Yo who else on that depressive suicidal blackgaze? I'm really digging Sun Devoured Earth.
There's some chill ambiant parts. youtube.com
Love it too, just doesn't seem to be popular, and most leave the shoegaze sound behind after an album or two. I'd love more black metal and shoegaze mix artists
Agreed, I went through a couple albums on a Blackgaze Depression Guide image and I felt like a lot of them needed more shoegaze influence.
Thanks, figured that was the answer but didnt know if I was missing something for explicitly japanese stuff
been trying to find this thanks
Speaking of MOTFD, i didn't know that they had gotten back together until they played a show in my town this autumn that shit was so fucking cash
big ups to steven tanaka for bringing them to tour canada
Lemon-Limed lie maybe
I didn't know they even toured NA

misleading as fuck name for a style

finally a /shugazi/ that hasn't been bumped off after 30 replies
I absolutely love this album.
I agree it's a little slow and bland, but the texture they've got going on on here is just too good to really call it that.
I'm excited for pic related. Theurgist and Entheogen are both pretty cool tracks, I'm hoping it compares to the rest of their work.
Here's my collection of Kinoko Teikoku's work.

is it because of plebs digging MBV or because of the shoegaze revival?
I've got the Yoru ga Aketara Demo, Sakura ga Saku Maeni EP, and Crybaby single if anyone wants those upped

Holy shit I think this is the longest lasting shugazi general thread I've seen. They almost never last more than a few hours.
a long long time ago, they'd last for like three days, till it hits the bump limit
we usually have a good thread like this like once a month or something
it was part of next music from tokyo
some dude brings a bunch of japanese indie bands to tour montreal, toronto, and vancouver every year
only 10 dollars too
Whose dick do I have to suck to get someone to do similar for the UK?
mine

if there were more opinions,it would be the thread of the month
I dont know if posting my opinion on The Swirlies recommended album, cause I listened to it yesterday.....and except maybe the last song(didnt have time),I had prety good impressions on it
just post it

alright,I'm gonna listen to it again right now and give it a fair chance
1st listen usually becomes a rough discovery
Alright compare your first impression to the next
i feel envious of a lost friend, defeated by them, i want to collapse onto the floor. what album would you prescribe?
...
now I´m posting the review but I´ll copy it for the next thread if this one bumps off soon.
I didnt really put it much attention at 1st listen, but in this one I was writing the review while listening to it.
The Swirlies- Blonder Tongue Audio Baton
1st track Bell proves that this record searches for the Sonic Youth sound, midway changes of riffs but not sure if it fits as an opener
Vigilant Always has some nice build ups, surprising that they didn’t record this in the early 2000s
His Love Just Washed Away is the prime low-fi song of the album, minimal drums ,it comes with a comfy and the only riff that defines the song, their most unchanged track out of here.
Academic Freedom, now this transition song has more interesting noise elements and it works, cause Pancake starts brilliantly and remains with the powerful noise from before with a catchy rythm. Easily a highlight, even more appreciated with that transition, really love this one.
Jeremy Parker,it´s nice, it mostly sounds like When the Sun Hits(Slowdive),kinda dreamy after these indie songs.
Park The Car by the Side of the Road, influenced by guess who,Sonic Youth, they would perfectly accept it as b side of Daydream Nation, except that the vocals would need more raw and Crhistina makes the track softer.
Tree Chopped Down, the 2nd guitar makes the track really catchy,it doesn’t have that special aspect of Pancake, but the constant changes of riffs, especially the last part, seem to compensate its character pretty well.
Wrong Tube, the distorted riff brings the shoegaze part of this record, but as secondary genre. Mostly all the tracks after Pancake are catchy and this one is no less at that. Indie rock guitars that feels like they were influenced by art punk 70´s bands.
Wait Forever the last track, has 3 parts on it, minimal guitar accompaniment ending, you could end it here and nothing of value would be lost…….with a plot twist,1 minute of silence and then a recording of scientific questions(microorganisms, virus) between two teens I think.
Really liked it,strong B,indie stuff that any Sonic Youth fan could dig with no problem.
Highlights: Academic Freedom/Pancake, Jeremy Parker and Vigilant Always.

Oh boy, maybe too long for anyone

Crybaby was a pretty cool track. Interested in what this will be a part of, if anything.
What does /shugazi/ think of this CT release? Personally I place it above Victorialand but below BBK and HoLV.
i'm listening to music through my headphones with earplugs in my ears. does anyone else do this? does anyone know if ear plugs make it so i can safely play my headphones louder than i normally would?
Why?
I've only done this one time, and that was when I was playing extremely loud guitar and recording.
It is useless otherwise. Yes, it would make it safe, obviously, but ear plugs block out frequencies and would make the music sound worse.
But then you're just hearing it quieter.
What the fuck?
For some reason I never noticed the connection between them and sonic youth
the album was released 5 years after Daydream Nation
I dont know how much influence they had back then(they were in the underground) and they never topped the charts but it seems,at least to me,that the Swirlies caught inspiration by their late 80s records
I immediately caught their influence because of those changes of riffs(opener and the middle of the record)...probably cause I listened to DN several times
