i watched this for the first time and blown away by how fucking terrible this was
how is this liked by so many people and considered a classic? It's supposed to be sort of a romantic comedy but the main 2 characters have like a max of 3 lines with each other. The love interest is an asshole who lets some guy at a party take home his drunk gf and pretty much tells him to fuck her and she wont know or remember anything in the morning and at the end buys the 'main' girl a cake so he can fuck her that night..
and all the scenes at the school and dance and party are so fucking bad and not funny and scenes ran for soo long without any tension i was so fucking bored too
quick google searched im not the only who thought this,
IMDB synopsis: A young girl's (Molly Ringwald) "sweet sixteen" becomes anything but sweet as she suffers from every embarrassment possible.
What it should say: A young girl's (Molly Ringwald) "sweet sixteen" becomes anything but sweet as she falls prey to a kindly date rapist.
Why it's disturbing: Although the lasting popularity of John Hughes' breakthrough film owes a lot to its adorable leading lady, part of its reputation can be attributed to the eternal nice-guy appeal of love interest Jake Ryan (Michael Schoeffling). With his '80s gay-porn-star physique and innocuous, golden-retriever grin, Ryan exemplifies Reagan-era masculinity, to the point that the Washington Post ran an editorial on the twentieth anniversary of the film entitled "Real Men Can't Hold a Candle to Jake Ryan." With all due respect to the Post, that's probably for the best, because by the end of the movie, Jake Ryan turns out to be an unbelievable asshole. After confiding in a geeky underclassman (Anthony Michael Hall) that he's attracted to Sam (Ringwald), Jake allows the freshman to drive his inebriated, barely conscious girlfriend home and have his way with her. Jake then uses his girlfriend's "infidelity," for which she was unable to supply consent, as an excuse to break up with her and hook up with Sam..
Ostensible message: Growing up is tough, but you'll always remember your first love.
Actual message: Growing up is tough, but if you're lucky, you might end up being deflowered by a panty-sniffing rape conspirator with perfect bone structure.

America and people in general are stupid.
Levi Taylor
80s were a different time. SJW's wouldn't dare let this be made today.
Kayden Taylor
Its a movie for teenage girls and gay guys. If you're neither, its not for you.
Kayden Turner
I watched pretty in pink the other night and it was shit, did hughes make any decent films? I remember liking the breakfast club
Asher Martin
Wow, that was really insightful. I can tell you're a clever and enlightened film reviewer.
Cameron Cruz
It's actually John Hughes's best film.
Jackson Lewis
I wouldn't go that far, I don't like it as much as Ferris Bueller or Planes, Trains & Automobiles, but it's pretty damn good
Samuel Perez
Saw it for the first time recently as well, hated most of it. The main characters are all awful people. The dads corny speech at the end was ridiculous. But at least Molly was cute
John Powell
Oh my God thank you, somebody else finally agrees. My girlfriend and her friends got so upset at movie when we were figuring out what to watch and I told them it was shit and I hated it. It's been 2 months and it's still not over.
Chase Rivera
Exactly how I feel about the Breakfast Club. Overrated 6/10 at best.
Charles Clark
I also hated this. I liked the Breakfast Club but this was pure trash.
Dominic Ward
Literally the only thing this movie has going for it is the teenage gingerfu
Jacob Morales
But user, being a rapist is ok if you're chad, so the film was good!
Evan Thomas
Thanks for the thread. It's been on my must-see list of the 80s, but the one time I started watching it, I stopped 15 minutes in. I always wondered if I needed to give it a shot.
Still, since I'm on an 80s binge, I'll share some movies (I'm sure you've seen most of it):
Good >Coming to America (ending was kinda crap) >Beverly Hill Cop >Negiotiator >Crocodile Dundee (also a bit of a flop ending)
Okay >Sphere (book is better) >Event Horizon
I never noticed how most 80s romance movies just say "Oh, I love you now for no reason, despite having a bf/fiance". It's an absolute asspull. At least they had good jokes and music.
Jose Edwards
you should check out the superior remake
Juan Hall
Literally no one considers Molly Ringwald movies classic.
Justin Myers
>Sphere >Ok
A girl told me to watch that shit and it sucked
You know a movie is bad when it's carried by Samuel L Jackson.
Carson Howard
Who's the one that's not Faye
Adam White
If you didn't liked that blonde you're a fucking faggot.
Eli Evans
>not liking Molly Ringwald
I'd definitely consider her tits classic.
Chase Bailey
I wouldn't say it's bad. It's really, truly, 'ok'. 5/10. Nothing bad happens if you see it, nothing good happens if you don't.
It's Crichton. All of his books are basically >amazingly interesting premise >interesting concepts and real science >shit characters >same formula: Sciences goes too far >you learn some cool shit but the story was trash Sphere basically lost the cool ideas the book had. The book gives you a lot of interesting concepts about what aliens realistically could be and how we could possibly communciate with them
The movie had some interesting scenes and okay ideas. If you thought it sucked, well, I did too, but it was an okay use of my time while multitasking. >

I can't stand any of john hughes films maybe I'm autistic but I think he has an idealized innaccurate version of what youth do and think. Ferris bueller is the only film I don't entirely hate but even in that one ferris as a character was a mega cunt.
I only ever watch it for the part where the principle goes:
> As God as my witness I shall put an end to Ferris Beullers day off!
Benjamin Edwards
I assume you mean the blonde from Totally a faggot if you don't find that hot.
Oliver Perry
what about his movies that aren't about teenagers?
I don't see how anyone could hate Christmas Vacation or Planes, Trains & Automobiles
Grayson Martin
Bless your heart user
Kevin Jackson
Admittedly I haven't seen those yet mean meaning to watch Planes but it seems so dated
Andy San Dimas with an Asian guy Andy took Asian dick in her in "Malice in Lalaland". I can't find the scene online, so I can only give you the info
FYI : Faye doesnt fuck BLACK GUYS. She only did a BJ scene with one but never a fuck scene.
Isaiah Ward
It's not that old.
Henry Perez
>Planes, Trains & Automobiles Comfykino right the fuck there.
Tyler Mitchell
Uncle Buck is fucking amazing.
Brayden Phillips
Is this from Cracked? I feel like I remember reading this when Cracked started to get shitty
Lincoln Peterson
classic
Jonathan Peterson
It really is.
Elijah Nelson
Agree 100%
I saw this after all the other John Hughes movies and was expecting good things. It was awful.
Owen Thompson
>you might end up being deflowered by a panty-sniffing rape conspirator with perfect bone structure. They forget to mention that this what every woman pretty much wants.
