Its a Tomino show without all the fun Tominoisms. It was pretty boring.

Simoun is horribly underrated, IMO. I'm pretty sure it's shitty cover and synopsis prevent a lot of people from watching it, which is a shame.

I agree. I've long regarded Simoun quite unironically as one of the greatest anime ever made. The writing, the characters, the setting and the tone of the series are all incredibly done. The staff's love and passion for the project shows, not only in the show itself but in their comments in the extra materials.

However, in a fate sadly appropriate given its themes, Simoun has been almost lost to history. Few people except yuri fans seem to ever remember it exists, let alone how great it is.

Yeah, it is a unique blend of genres. It reminds me of Haibane Renmei in certain ways too. The soundtrack is absolutely incredible, as are the visuals and the characters.

Dude... The only Ikuhara show that is better is Utena. YKA is in a very personal "flow of consciousness" style. If it were more coherent and had a lot more episodes, it would rival Utena.

I'm sorry anonymous but in his small catalogue of series YKA stands out as cheaply animated discordant garbage. The holistic nature of Utena is truly gone from his work.

He just wasn't given the time and money after Penguindrum just barely moved 4k average. He did what he could with the time and money he had but the end result is the worst thing he's ever made.

You know what, you put a lot of effort into this bait. I'll give you a 7/10, not bad. You didn't go full retard and have shows like TG and Elfen Lied or Naruto and bleach, and you also found decent pictures for the shows.

I don't think YKA comes close to Utena in any way, shape, or form. I still think that it was superior to Mawaru Penguindrum.

I've been keeping up with the Ideon BDs ,and I have to say, it kind of sucks. Victory is probably one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life though

That's funny, because Penguindrum is one of the best things to come out this decade.
Less is going on than Utena, but its adroitly succinct in a way Utena isn't.

Uh, no. A lot of MPD is filler. Don't get me wrong, it's filler done in the clever and entertaining way that only Ikuhara can make filler, but especially in the early parts of the show (i.e. the Ringo eps) there is a lot of "gotta fill air-time" nonsense.

MP and YKA are both probably in the top 10 shows of the 2010's, I agree. MP was a commercial failure because the anime buying customer base no longer wants allegorical storytelling or any of Ikuhara's brilliant writing techniques. It's not like anybody should have been surprised by its commercial failure.

Why do people like Shigatsu? It's pure shit.

It had its problems but it was enjoyable.

Not all taste is based purely on quality friendo. Some of us just really liked it, even if we did painfully wince at all of its glaring shortcomings.

Because it's impassionate. A lot of care was put into the work; episode 5 for example looked incredible and was animated by a single person. It's flawed but not "pure shit" by any metric
