司?官

What kanji am I missing here. Jisho only shows 司令官 but it looks completely different. Even though it would make sense.

Official djt thread music

youtube.com/watch?v=n4_-YldDHJU

It is 司令官

jisho.org/search/令 #kanji

I don't know a smart way to word this but what do you call the kana that goes after a verb to modify it? I know tense and negative, but like with 見よう or 見たい, what's the name for the kana after the kanji? And is there a list of them?

送り仮名

Strange, so that Kanji can be written with the bottom part as マ?

That's how it's supposed to be (hand)written. PC fonts make it look different.

Dude, sweet.

I see. Are there more kanji like that?

Yes, but my memory has been eroded by years of instant gratification in the form of porn, videogames and anime combined with a poor diet and thus I can't think of any at the moment.

Any good Japanese let's players that don't play minecraft?

I'm checking "Popular on Youtube - Japan" but it just seems to be minecraft dudes.

>youtube
They are all on niconico

The only one I remember right now is that this left/bottom kanji part, however it's called, is handwritten slightly different, check 通 in jisho.

There's great stuff on youtube too!
youtube.com/watch?v=xqs0-CAre4o

What's with those dislikes?

Is it because non of the lolis are really that cute? Because that's why I disliked it

No idea.

聖地だ~

Anyone has a mirror to the "Making Sense of Japanese Grammar" book? The one on the Cornucopia of Resources is missing page 63.

It's alright that page was shit anyway

How can I learn Japanese without effort?

Keep killing yourself until you're reborn in Japan

Move there and survive.

Off the top of my head, 心, 辶/辶 (second has two dots instead of one) and 糸 are some parts that can look slightly different from their computer counterparts. Usually it's obvious which one it is from context though.

Change your personal definition of "having learned Japanese" until it applies to your current level of knowledge.

Please call my mistakes out, would be really appreciated.

>My hair is neatly done!
>>>Should be her hair, but because of context it's probably Mitsuha leaving the message for Taki right?
>Sample!

>No, no... What should I do?
>It's impossible.

>What's going on, big sis?
>We're late!
>>>早うしない = Not early?

For a couple of seconds this made sense.

>The next day
>Ah, I got a message...
>>>replacing reply with message, because why not

>What did he mean by this...
>>>instead of what is this guy on about
>Isn't this cute too!

>Yuuup...
>Why are you grinning like that?

Realistically, you can't. Because it's not like you're a baby where you have people teaching you the basics of the language like a parent and unlike having a parent you dont have someone constantly talking to you in japanese.

The move there and survive is a meme. At best you only interact with the expats

This post has more projection than a cinema

Maybe you should actually learn Japanese before trying to translate.

Sometimes I wonder what possesses people to do this shit. I mean, you get to the end of the first page, and literally every line has a mistake and the whole piece is nigh incomprehensible, so what do you do? Of course, you open up the next page and keep guessing!

Day 2

Goal - 8:00:00

Average - 8:26:11

App name pls

How, which, when, etc how do you remember them all?

Just practice? Any mnemonics?

Do you have it anyway?

Pretty sure he doesn't, what he's trying to say though is that you should just move on and don't get stuck on a missing page since it's sort of meaningless in the long run considering it's Grammar material.

There are many great material resources out there you'll be reading in the future as well, so forget it and move on to what's next in your thingy.

But anyway I found it in 5sec with google :

They're just words what do you mean? Just put them into Anki.

I was having trouble and mixing these up.

I took all those cards from anki and looked at them all together by themselves. After that I stopped mixing them up.

I did this for 生 & 上/下 too

Hey /djt/ what should I read after yotsubato?
I would like to read another manga with "training wheels" like it was with yotsubato and the reading pack.

Does something like that exist?

Read yotsuba AGAIN

Non non biyori, or any manga really with furigana.

>no multiple choice

>I hate reading honestly listening is so much easier.

I'm the exact opposite, I fucking hate listening but could read LNs forever

ちょっと羨ましい

Originally Pimsleur until I realized it was a waste of time (still finished it).
Constantly shadow Anki sentences, or close my eyes to hear the audio and see if I can comprehend the sentence's meaning.
Watch Japanese variety shows after work.
Occasionally be forced to talk in Japanese bc Japan.

Honestly, my listening skills are shit and I wish DJT had more ways to hold my hand besides "watch anime" advice.

Had a good laugh.

I don't get it

I'm a watcher - > I want to buy a watch

I'd be the same if I could finish Tae Kim. As helpful as it is, the layout is unbearable.

Why not anime?
Doesn't help you with understanding old mumbly men with accent, but they're a good, easy basis.

What are some good Japanese dramas?

わ~い!

> ヶ

> read as ga

the fuck, man

Thank you very much user!

サキ is pretty good.

霞ヶ関 for example uses the ga pronunciation
if you played grisaia you will see the name 市ヶ谷 pop up very often

Use an example people know like 戦場ヶ原

月光ヶ原
希望ヶ峰

how do you type these faster, though

seems like a hassle to type "lke" into the keyboard every time ヶヶヶ

People were using paper before you were born, you know?

i just used them because they converts directly but yeah these are all place names

i just type ga and the ime showed up as the 8th option

> i just type ga and the ime showed up as the 8th option

that seems even slower but you're right it showed up for me as well

How the fuck am I only just now noticing this

Just got a psp go. What nip games would you play? Has a gba emulator too.

>書店
>本屋

Are these both just regular bookstores or does the first also have writing supplies?

get a better IME
If it's a rare one that you use a lot add it to your IME dictionary (this is why for me typing かんこれ gives both 艦隊これくしょん 艦これ as options)

>Just got a psp go
I'm so sorry

Tales of Rebirth and some Ys games maybe.

This actually
I don't type moon much so i didnt feel the need much

>YS
Maybe if you want to play a game but don't convince yourself you're learning japanese the text is minimal (disclaimer: I only played origins)

...

>psp go

You fucked up. Don't open and close it. Just keep it open.

Fate/Extra CCC

I'm pleasantly surprised that that doesn't come up more here です

>Tfw reading a really intense part in an LN and having to actively stop your eyes from shooting over to the left side of the page to see what happens

Why does it damage it?
Got Y's, but oh shit I didn't think about tales thanks.

>Got Y's, but oh shit I didn't think about tales thanks.
NP, I used to emulate those using ppsspp.

共産主義が最高である

Do you guys go to language exchange meet ups Jap/Eng?

...

君の立場はぜんぜん見えないわね。 資本主義にはもっと人道的なシステムだとおもうよ。

What this supposed to mean?

完璧な文章などといったものは存在しない。完璧な絶望が存在しなようにね。

Is there anything good for JP TV these days? What I wouldn't give for a netflix type service with back catalogues of variety shows instead of the shitty drama stuff.

why are we trusting a KOREAN to teach us JAPANESE??? how do we know we aren't learning everything wrong???

>資本主義
>人道的
wwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

完璧な文章などといったものは存在しない。完璧な絶望が存在しないようにね。

Because beginner books don't need to teach you japanese they just give you good enough approximations to start reading

To be fair, I think I'd rather deal with how ridiculously inconvenient kanji is and have a nice looking language rather than do what Korea does, hangul looks boring as fuck imo

The best option would be just going over the kanji reading system and making shit more consistent and predictable, it's not remembering the characters that's a pain in the ass, it's just reading them

In english.

Not a translation service

I am Japanese and every day I am disgusted with myself. It is self-disgust. It is so bad in our country that many kill themselves from disgust. Nobody talk much we know.

I am sorry.

Admittedly, I don't know any Korean, so this is only what I've been told by friends and random internet people, but hangul only works because Korean has a much broader range of phonemes than Japanese (and even then, hanja is sometimes used in written Korean to avoid disambiguation).

>avoid disambiguation
ambiguity*

Nice facebook repost

>Korean has a much broader range of phonemes
They don't even have an f sound

nah it's a repost of a facebook repost

thats what I meant

Neither does Japanese

Then what the hell is ファイト for example?
The Koreans say "Pight!" whenever I watch star craft.

What this supposed to mean?

完璧な文章などといったものは存在しない。完璧な絶望が存在しなようにね。

Learn kana

>Why does it damage it?

Not really. It just yanks out the display cables, because there's no flip-up tabs on the connector to hold it in.

The dpad has the same cables, but you probably don't have to worry about that.

It's a combination of an F sound and an H sound お兄ちゃん

。。。多分

フ isn't exactly an F sound. It's a good-enough approximation and nothing more

Try pronouncing ふたつ with a normal F sound and see how off it feels

>with a normal F sound
with an English F sound*
welp

More than a P.
And the f in ファ フィ フェ フォ is different from ふ.

The koreans don't even have a way to write it. Also their Fanta is called Panta.

I've found a mouth movement similar to blowing out a candle to give a decent sound as a result.

>And the f in ファ フィ フェ フォ is different from ふ.
See

I'm pretty sure that's how it's supposed to be pronounced. It's how my jap friends do it anyway.

Meant cable not cables.

Modern Japs can say a real f, unlike Koreans.

How to learning all the words of the JLPT N5?

Any /djt/ that lives in LA?
I'm looking for places to buy raw manga/LNs and i've been to kinokunya in downtown and the bookoff at gardena. Are there other places around?

>anything but 俺 or 私(わたし)

You guys are all tryhard as fuck

私 is the only acceptable non ironic pronoun, unless you have a feminine penis, and then 僕 is okay

>私
Are you a girl?

私(わたし)が日本語勉強為る

But i'm interested in looking for a huge random selection of titles that i haven't read yet. Plus i'm impatient as fuck

>Using pronouns for yourself at all
This is Japanese, everyone knows you are talking, no need to put an I in front of anything.

>俺
>tryhard
literally how? it's the most normal pronoun for an adult male
you guys make it sound like only animu antagonists use 俺, which couldn't be farther from the truth

If you never once use a pronoun you're doing it wrong

(お前)

>antagonists
I believe I've seen more protagonists using 俺. The antagonists usually use 私 or shit like 我.

Do I have enough time to study for the next JLPT? The next JLPT test is at the start of december, application for those closes in just under 2 weeks for me. I have only just begun self studying japanese for a week and I know all of the hiragana now. I am wondering whether within the next two months I will be capable of taking the N5 test? I am currently using the tae kim website and thinking about getting the genki books, I study about 1-2 hours everyday but can study more if need be.

ノウ

I gave up on Tae Kim pretty early on and have just been doing my daily reps + any reading material I can find since.

Thank you.

Oh that sounds terrible. Thanks for that and the reccomendation I played a bit of it in english and loved it.

Sure, but why would you wanna take that test? N5 is worth nothing.
Shoot straight for N2 or N1 and save your money.

Or will this reset all of my progress?

Yeah, pretty much. Memrise looks more "user-friendly", even though Anki is easy as fuck to set up.

Memrise is NOT a meme, lads. It's reddit as fuck compared to Anki, I'll admit that but it's still pretty good and free. However, I've yet to find a kanji course with audio and overall I think for kanji Anki's probably better.

But I've been learning vocab on Memrise and I like it.

Nobody's saying it's "a meme", unlike Wanikani. It's just Anki with a prettier interface and less customization options. It's pretty good and free, just like Anki.

Besides, she's clearly asking for it. I'm brown too so rape is impossible for me, this is a sexual emergency that's all.

Anyone else have problems remembering expressions like そんあわけで? The all-hiragana words are so much harder than the kanji for some reason.

im the white dude in this video

Don't worry, that's not even real hebrew.

That's too hard.

I think this problem is specific to ideographic languages and isn't really generalizable to Anki proper.

There was an add-on (rtkwiki.koohii.com/wiki/Morph_Man) that does something similar. It was designed to work on sentences but it might be possible to feed it vocabulary only and still have it work.

To be honest, I don't even think that is a good way to learn vocabulary. I was obsessed with doing this when I started out and even went as far as trying to automate finding vocabulary by kanji and its reading. I promptly concluded that it was a bad idea.

AnkiDroid has a feature to automatically show you the answer and then answer it (both separate timers), although it only answers "good" if you run out of time.

So, I have the tae Kim and Japanese the Manga way anki decks, but I don't think they help. I pretty much just end up memorizing the sentence, not the grammar idea/execution

Just read a novel.

The sentences give you a point of reference for the grammar, they give you the basic idea but by themselves won't teach you much. Reading more will drill the actual grammar into your head.

So I shouldn't bother with grammar decks, then?

なるほど
どうも妹ちゃん

おにいちゃんおなかすいた

たまには、てんぷらたべたい

えびてんと、いもてんと、なすてんと

あと、まいたけのてんぷらね。かってきて

They have the benefit of easing you into the language due to coming with translations. But if you can read native material without wanting to kill yourself, then it shouldn't be necessary, just keep them in mind as a fallback measure if reading normal material is overwhelming.

そうだから、「いつまでも眠る」と「死ぬ」の両方は同意語ですか?

「死ぬ」の意味で伝わる。
あなたの母国語と同じように使えると思います。

So let's say I read through the Tae Kim thing (which I did ages ago but have forgotten a lot of it) and then leard, what, 2000ish words. That's the point I should move onto reading about Cred Forums-tan?

>いつまでも眠りこける
これは絶対にいきているよ

>いつまでも眠り続ける
これはなんとなく生きてるかんじがするよ

>いつまでもいつまでも眠り続ける
これは死んでいるかんじだよ

You should've already started reading.

Yes. You can start reading yotsuba at around 1k words imo.

Start reading with very little grammar knowledge and a vocabulary made up of the usual entry level shit (neko, nakama etc) plus various other videogame-derived words?

Okay, well that's good. As I mention above, I have a really disjointed vocabulary, like "kame = turtle", "tsubasa = wing", but I don't know how to say "kettle" or "socks", for example (unless they're loan words, I guess).

君の好きなお菓子は何ですか

ドリトス

それはお菓子じゃないよ

とあるアニメ会社の求人を見たが[実家から通える人。親から仕送りしてもらえる人。1年間は無収入だと思って下さい。]と書いてあったが、こんな恥ずかしい求人を出すな!そもそもね、なんでアニメ作るのに親の金使ってまでアニメを完成させなきゃならないのかって話ですよバカげている。

can some help translate this?

>kettle
やかん
>socks
靴下
There, now go read some compelling content.

君って誰のこと?
不特定多数(A large unspecified number)の人に聞く場合は「あなた」を使うのがベスト。
「君」は特定の相手

DJTのアノン達は誰でもが特別な友人ですよ〜(*´ω`*)

>but I don't know how to say "kettle" or "socks"
Why would you need to know those to start reading? Those are random weird nouns. The type of thing that is most important for reading somewhat comfortable is things like "therefore" "however" "in that case"
the semi-grammatical things that set the stage

the rare nouns don't matter

やだめんどくさい自分でなんとかしろ

My point was just that I know a strange scattershot of words because I've mainly got them from anime or games. I know "dorobou" because of DQ yet I can't, of the top of my head, think of the word for "door" or "window", which I'd consider very basic and useful words in day-to-day life. Just trying to make the point that if I know 600 words now, 500 of them are basically useless.

All that aside, are you saying to just start reading and check out every word as I get to it? So basically it's a constant process of checking a dictionary for just about every single speech bubble?

おにいちゃんおなかすいた

>All that aside, are you saying to just start reading and check out every word as I get to it? So basically it's a constant process of checking a dictionary for just about every single speech bubble?
Well I would say to just do anki at 30+ words a day if possible (if it starts to become too much, just stop adding new words for a few days, DON'T abandon anki and become a dekinai) until you hit 2-6k (Where I would say to go further with anki the faster you are going. If you are doing 100 words a day, go all the way to 6k why not. If you are doing 20 a day, then start reading at 2k because anki alone is too slow to get anywhere for you)

But if you've actually already finished Tae Kim then fuck it just start reading and mining.

友達でも同じです。
君はピンポイント過ぎる。

>But if you've actually already finished Tae Kim then fuck it just start reading and mining.
It was probably about 3-4 years ago. I can only really remember little uncertain scraps. I'm going to read it again.

Thanks for the help.

>study radicals, they said

Is there a list of common kanji with only one reading anywhere? Ex: 感

I'm scared that I'm not smart enough to learn jap.

Unless you're full retard you can learn any language. Humans are geared to do that.

I just feel like I'm a fucking loser. I'm a neet with no friends, and no accomplishments. I feel like this is just going to be another thing I'm going to fail at, even though it's pretty much all I've wanted since middle school.

nice blog

自殺を考えしますください.

That'd be interesting but I can't help but think the list would be too long to even matter. Better study words still.

I'd say the things you listed are actually good things in this case, in the way that you have nothing to lose and nothing to distract you but yourself.

You need discipline in order to learn Japanese, and discipline is something you earn by working on yourself. By learning Japanese you will end up working on yourself as well. But I suppose you already closed this thread anyway.

Of course, I agree that studying words is better than studying readings in isolation. However, it would be very useful to be able to correctly guess readings of certain words 100% of the time, like you can do with words that use 感 or 員 (provided you know the other kanji, of course).

Yeah I get your point.

Well if there's none all that's left is make one yourself. I'm rather meticulous myself but I think I'll pass on this one. Someday maybe.

The other I day I saw Koe no Katachi misspelt as 蟹の形.

I mean, I get the joke, 蟹 looks similar to 聲 at first glance, but is that a thing commonly done in Japanese?

The best way to guess readings 100% of the time is to learn through listening

Has anyone tried Mondly? Thoughts on it?

タヒね

That's practically not a misspelling.

Holy fuck, those fucking VNs have fucking hardcore grammar for fucking fapfests.
If you don't fucking master fucking grammar by the time you finish one, you're a FUCKING MORON.

Thanks.

>Implying I don't

So you need discipline in order to have discipline? Sounds like one of those kafka traps.

I guess you're right. I'll try to compile a list and post it here when it's relatively substantial.

Could try to make it a DJT joint effort too. We'd need some kind of pastebin thing where people could dump Kanji like that they encounter as they study.

Yeah, that'd be better. I'm not sure how many people would be interested in this, but I'll make a pastebin or google docs or something tomorrow and post it here.

Just make a script that parses your japanese kanji list of choice, and spits out kanji that have only 1 reading (maybe two, for compound kanji)

ズグズグ - wot

Clearly it means ZuguZugu.

You don't have a ZuguZugu where you live? Sad, user.

I'm glad I googled it, I know a new word now. Thanks Google!

you realize we're incredibly biased right?

How so

Japanese is flawed, that's a fact.

I'm sure time will do its job though.

Because of the different zainichi affiliations, you can't refer to the Korean language as Korean. Because if you call it 韓国語, Chongryon gets mad. If you call it 朝鮮語, Mindan gets mad. So they have to call it ハングル語.

Speaking of Koreans, they basically don't exist. Despite being the largest minority, they don't exist in Japanese media. One reason is because the Koreans are very sensitive about how they're portrayed in media so it's best just not to bother.

Burakumin. You don't hear them talked about much. I'm happy to say that at least kids shows now are showing more Ainu stuff. Folktales from Japan includes some Ainu folktales as well as Yamato ones.

The Ryukyuan languages are referred to as "dialects", not languages. Okinawan, Amami, Yaeyama, Miyako, etc. All dialects. Despite the fact that they're mutually incomprehensible with Japanese. This is to uphold the idea of Japan as one people and one language. It's entirely political.

そうか

>Despite being the largest minority, they don't exist in Japanese media.
>they don't exist in Japanese media.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

What makes Koreans so easily irritable? Why the propensity for Hwabyung?

>What makes Koreans so easily irritable?

no porn

exact same reason the muslims are always pissed off

Dude the zainichi are the jews of Japon.
They're literally everywhere in their media.

What? It's not like porn is banned in Korea.

It is in fact.

The Government of South Korea practiced censorship of gay-content websites from 2001 to 2003, through its Information and Communications Ethics Committee (정보통신윤리위원회), an official organ of the Ministry of Information and Communication, under its category of "obscenity and perversion"; for example, it shut down the website ex-zone, a website about gay and lesbian issues, in 2001.[8] That practice has since been reversed.[17]

Since 2008, attempts by anybody to access "indecent Internet sites" unrated games, pornography, gambling, etc., are automatically redirected to the warning page showing "This site is legally blocked by the government regulations."[18]

Search engines are required to verify age for some keywords deemed inappropriate for minors. For such keywords, age verification using national identity number is required. For foreigners, a copy of passport must be faxed to verify the age. As of 2008, practically all large search engine companies in South Korea, including foreign-owned companies (e.g. Yahoo! Korea), have complied with this legislation.[19] In April 2009 when the Communication Commission ordered user verification be put on the system at YouTube, Google Korea blocked video uploading from users whose country setting is Korean.[20] In September 2012, Google reenabled YouTube uploads in Korea following a three-year block.[21]

On December 21, 2010, the Korea Communications Commission announced that it is planning to create a guideline about monitoring the Internet content in case of a tense political situation; automatically deleting any online anti-governmental message that could lead to internet censorship.
