That was because of the Evangelions and the fact that just about all the angels had the intelligence of the ships in Space Invaders. If they were in a typical mech they wouldn't match up to the people on the list.

Handling Zero != being a better pilot, just a batshit. And Duo did survive Zero without going insane, unlike Quatre. Heero just had the stroke of luck that he was already crazy and just integrated Zero into his crazy.

It may be due to coordinator and SEED hacks, but Kira is undeniably a strong pilot.

Amuro stuck with the same suit for the whole series and got by in Z and part of CCA with mass production suits, so he must be good. Char probably ranked lower because he piloted a lot of custom suits and still got defeated.

Try multiple combat missions enough that OZ was convinced they no longer required the actual pilots to have the suits perform to spec, and Duo fought Mercurius when it had Vayete beside it too, so 2 > 3 and 1 combined. Deal with it.

Anno Kaworu pilots in the super popular pachinko and games and he's the best pilot. Also SRW. He's just too OP to work within the show/movies.
