Actually watching it made me lose a lot of interest.

The /tg/ quest was entertaining enough for fan-fic, and the show could be appreciated for pushing the limits of fanservice (No, not the girls, the gear. Maybe a bit of the girls.)

But then the plot bogs down. The investment I got out of the 1st season was immediately dashed by the 2nd season's first episode, and any hype out of the 2nd season was drained by the movie (which was good in and of itself, but there was a serious lack of rising action overall).

The unfortunate fact is, plot-wise the actual anime series is pretty much the weakest part of the whole franchise. At least for the two seasons and maybe the movie, the OVAs were great. The setting just has so much potential, and everything else does such a better job utilizing that potential. The show's been getting better and better, falling more in line with the rest of the franchise; I can only hope Brave Witches (and any future animated additions) keep up the trend.

Season 1's first half is, as a whole, pretty bad. The second half, with actual plot, is decent.

Season 2 is a horrible, horrible stew of parody and homage-bordering-on-theft of the first season. Though the creative ideas and premises are more interesting than Season 1, they're executed much worse.

Haven't seen the Movie.

OVAs are great, both the original and Victory Arrows.

Agree almost completely, except the good latter half of the first season being completely undone by the opening of S2 means it pretty much doesn't count IMO.
Although I could see future works picking up on the idea again, bringing that plotthread back into relevance. Especially since the movie pretty much shows the Neuroi are learning from humanity and adapting tactics to match. I'd love to see later works slowly bring Neuroi learning, intelligence and possible communication back into the plot. Slowly.

I saw SW seasons 1 and 2 right around when I started watching anime, which wasn't long after S2 came out. Never watched the movie. I've had it on my HDD for years.
