If you think about it, the ending is almost bittersweet for Teiichi. I mean, yeah, he gets his eternally young ghost waifu. But consider the following:

It's really Yuuko's happy ending. She got everything she wanted. She doesn't have to move on or grow up. She gets to spend the rest of her existence playing with the boy she likes.

I always found the ending of this manga to be satisfying for the author's ability to play with the supernatural throughout the chapters. Whats fascinating to me about the ending is that it is portrayed as a very positive moment. As the user stated, it is actually bittersweet for Teiichi for many of the aforementioned reasons. But also, Teiichi chose to be with Yuuko. Outside of Teiichi, Yuuko dosen't really exist, so it is like Teiichi decided to be with a dream, or idealized version of his concept of Yuuko. This is very acute at the very last scenes of the manga where Yuuko states "Let's go to Heaven together". As touching as the scene was, it also alludes that Teiichi decided to disregard reality to be with his ghostfu.

I was pretty impressed by the show's casting in general, and I thought Hara Yumi did a great job showing both her mature, seductive side and her more playful and even childish moments. You could build a whole show out of her and Teiichi trying to unkink the school's mysteries, just on the strength of their back-and-forth.

On a more basic level, she's perfect because she doesn't fall into one rigid archetype. Dusk Maiden doesn't need any of the girls aside from Yuuko. They're great and all, but Yuuko carries the series by herself, because she's so multifaceted.
