It's not brain damage. The shit with Ippo being unable to draw a straight line comes from him being confronted with him quitting boxing. It happened before when Kumi asked him to retire, later on that day when he was helping Umezawa with his manga and 'went away' later.

The symptoms came back again when Takamura talked to him about crossing the line between normal people and monsters and went away again when Ippo chose to just train at his own pace.

For the third time it's come back, when Takamura talked about Ippo not meeting Kamo's expectations, with Taka speculating that it's Ippo being broken.

With Ippo resolving to not let everything him and Kamo have built together go to waste, it went away yet again when Ippo was forced to draw a line for Kamogawa.

Also, we still haven't seen Ippo go to the doctor and, as with the most recent chapters, it's mentioned in passing that there was nothing wrong with Ippo's brain, yet they also pointed out that there's no telling for sure with current medicine.

With Ippo left to his own devices we're going to see him either hurt himself due to overwork or it's revealed that Ippo has been lying about just how damaged he's been.

The latter isn't Morikawa's style, even with his love for Ashita no Joe, so it's likely a mental-block that will go away when Ippo 'perfects' the new Dempsey Roll and the whole issue with him being able to draw straight lines and losing his balance with 'go away' when he crossed the line.

I think it used to be better. I really like the artstyle though, it fits the comedic and SoL portions of the series very well.

I think the way he draws bodies(and french fries) has gotten worse over time, but it's still ok. Overall, it was better early on.
