Teru shines because he adapts real quick. He'd probably rival Sho eventually. I think is fair. Teru only gets gud when he starts training. And he trains for everything while we know Shou only has the objective of beating his father.

Having Teru take on a skilled swordsman 1v1 with a shitty piece of metal was kind of an odd choice. He shouldn't have that level of skill, he's a kid who's never lifted a plastic blade in his life. The rest of the fight was good though.

I could be wrong, but I don't remember Shou buttfucking Ishiguro quite this hard in the manga either.

Why? What is good about this ending? What about this ending makes it good? The message is the exact same one we've heard for weeks. The build up to the episode was wasted, and the second Reigen got up after being hit, any tension immediately dissolved out of the scene, leaving us with nothing but ONE's lame and unrealistic moralizing.

Like, I have no interest in reading the manga or watching anything from this anymore because now I know that we're always gonna have a big set up followed by an anti-climax in which everything is just resolved with no effort.

You're saying this as if Mob actually used that method as a primary means of getting through to the opponents he faces or as if it actually worked when he resorts to it.

During the Teru arc, I think the author made it clear that both parties were misguided in very different ways: this grand "battle" of ideologies was in the end nothing but two kids with crippling insecurities who had a lot of growing up to do. Teru admittedly got the better end of the deal since, unlike Mob, he's not the protagonist got a very solid ego and is overall much better emotionally balanced, despite still struggling with the notion that power isn't everything even now. That however didn't make Mob right for holding a vision of the world that is completely skewed by his own perceived inadequacy and self-loathing and the excessive importance he places on the idea of "fitting in".

We all know how the 7th Branch arc turned out with Reigen utterly shaming talking down everyone into submission by reminding them of just how disconnected they are from this very society they're trying to rule over.

With Mogami, there wasn't anyone to reason with since the enemy was already dead and far beyond saving, but if we shift the focus to Bully-chan, then it becomes clear that she wasn't moved nor convinced to change her ways because Mob forced her to do it: it's being shown first hand how much of a destructive person she was and how much pain she caused to a single kid who, despite the hardships, refused to give in to fear and violence even though it would've been an easy solution for someone as strong as him that changed her.

The Boss fight might actually be the one situation where he literally gives up resorts to literally beating sense into his opponent after completely failing to connect with him through his words.

Teru is also very flexible and quick to learn. However Shou most likely knows much more about psychic abilities, since he was was raised in Claw and for example he was able to tell how the gravity balls worked.

I wish the Manga was not ending so soon so we cold see this two interact, at least have them fight side by side.

I'm an animeonlyfag and honestly i loved the ending. It was unconventional and very heartwarming. I loved seeing that the delinquent got a new start, the esper kids are going to start training, the Kageyama brothers are back to normal and Reigen interacting with dimple has a lot of potential. I really hope we get a second season some day. Then again this is by Bones so i'm not holding my breath.

I think you're actually too hung up on the idea that Mob is supposed to be some kind of champion of "normalcy" to actually see what it is in his position and behaviour that makes him an example of humility. It's precisely despite, or rather because of his overwhelming power and all the emotional problems that come with that Mob is able to see and acknowledge everyone and anyone for whatever it is they bring (or don't bring) to the table. It's not so much about "equality" per se than it is about respect for the other. Think of Komugi and Meruem and how their shougi matches pushed him to reconsider his definition of strength.
It's all about respect really, which is a notion that something many people in the manga (and in real life) who began seeking power and for its own sake and imposing their will through violence have simply forgotten about.

It's like a buddy cop show, except one of the cops is totally useless and they hate each other.

ONE is surprisingly attentive about how Reigen sees Mob. I was rereading the Claw Boss arc a couple of days ago and thought it was pretty nice that there was a panel showing Reigen thinking "I didn't know Mob had it in him" when Mob gets deadly serious towards Touichirou. By that time, we readers are pretty used to Mob's serious moments, but for Reigen it was a first.

ONE is just really attentive about Reigen and Mob's relationship in general. He ain't fucking around with his characterization.

Teru's deal was that he had a complex about being inadequate. So he deluded himself that his powers actually made him better than everyone else. Therefore, showing that he wasn't the most powerful in the world and that he was indeed just another person was an effective counter to is delusion.

And this might have been effective on Gasmask guy, because his delusion was basically the same. BUT katana guy's delusions were not based on him being better than everyone, at least not by how he described it. He described his problem as that of being alone and ostracized and just hating other people because they pushed him away. Being shown that there are stronger people wouldn't help that. Basically nothing Reigen said would help with that kind of "The world fucked me, so fuck the world" attitude.

I wonder how Reigen would react to Mob getting beat up like in the Koyama fight. I know he'd try to stop it from happening in the first place, but like if he got there while it was happening or something.

Katana guy was won over by the whole "If you want to change society you have to live in it first" thing. He wasn't "Fuck the world" he was "Fuck this current unfair structure"

No, the point is that "Don't be an asshole" is just another black and white moralistic system. It's "Good" and "Evil" relabled to "Not asshole" and "Asshole".

Or, to use another example, in medicine we have the creed of "Do no harm" but many of our treatments actually do a great deal of harm to the person being treated. They're for a good purpose but they can still do damage. Sometimes you have to be an asshole to get anything done.

Seriously Reigen's thing about having powers not making you special is bullshit. If I could lift a car with my mind I would be hailed as a god in most cultures.

Reigen is really good at self-defense though. Whether he'd actually do it is another matter, but he can beat the shit out of a normal person or an esper without a barrier.

It's about how you think about it. Sure, psychic powers are a special ability, that's all well and good, but it's when you start to think about yourself as special because of your powers that you get fucked.

I don't subscribe to a system of morality with black and white, diametrically opposed sides that doesn't allow room for complexity or depth of understanding.

War is a thing that happens, and the winners are the ones who decide the truth. If the war of independence had failed, the American forefathers would be notorious terrorists dangling from an English noose. Reigen's speech about being part of society and not being better than others was still delivered at what amounts to psychic gunpoint, and only worked because he was forcing his will on them. So Reigen using psychic powers to force his ideas onto others is fine, but the claw doing the same thing is not.

Again, I'm not saying his speech was bad or not convincing in the story. But when you step back and try to apply it to life in general, it doesn't really work out. A good principle to live by, sure, but then again so is "Do on to others as you would have them do on to you" and that ain't stabilizing the middle east.

But Gas Mask Man didn't accept the message at all, which coincides with what you're saying.
