Any ecchi desu

It depends.

no because anime is just neet pandering now

This. There are more anime series than ever but the market is watered down. The only way to be competitive is to make anime with cute girls doing cute things. and don't waste time on writing or unique character design. It's pointless

A pretty good description on Urusei Yatsura.

Except that a lot of the girls are uncute doing uncute things. Then again, you wouldn't know that because you didn't watch the show, just a brainless shitposter.

Which audience was Osomatsu-san pandering to?

...

Honestly sounds like you are guilty of the exact same in reverse. Characterising all modern shows based on a handful of examples you probably haven't even seen because they don't appeal to you.

When did I do that, idiot? That was my first post in the thread.

Your response appeared to imply that wasn't the case or at the very least that you were in agreement with and willing to defend the post that was being challenged by the comment I responded to. If not then this is just a waste of time.

>being this much of an autistic retard
Lurk more before posting.

Nostalgiafags and fujoshi

>YR keeps getting love as of late

Do I watch it? Is it worth the 195+movies?

Been here since 2006 kid, try again.

>The only way to be competitive is to make anime with cute girls doing cute things
Yeah that's why the best selling anime are mostly shounen shit like Boku no Hero and Magi.
Its like you guys think that every moe anime sells like K-ON

No not really. It mostly just follows the same kind of formula with notable exceptions being the more experimental films.

...

what about Ranma? I need some long-winded old show to watch to give meaning to my life and suspend suicide.

Give it 3 episodes. If you like them, you'll enjoy the series.

and not the experimental/manga diverging episodes?

Oh that's right, you're a dumbass who didn't watch the series.

Why not watch something actually good, like CCS?

If you prefer porn, go Ranma. Much more fanservice.

Urusei Yatsura is better in just about every other conceivable way, including animation and visual direction.

watched it years ago, in realmedia format, with terrible resolution.

Ranma gets really stale later on.
Watch Maison Ikkoku if you want classic Takahashi that doesn't gets repetitive halfways through.

Yeah and Naruto is worth watching in its entirety for the experimental and manga diverging episodes right? Terrible argument.

UY is the best rumiko anime and it's very standout
none of the others compare or they drag on

>Honestly sounds like you are guilty of the exact same in reverse
'sounds like' are the key words; you wouldn't really know yourself because you're an idiot who hasn't seen the show yet.

There isn't a single show that's been released in the last decade that has the same level of personality and charm, because the reality is, they don't make shows like Urusei Yatsura anymore.

As and highlighted, the anime market mostly panders to mouth breathers these days, because that's the entire market. They can't write characters like the ones in UY anymore because fat NEETs don't like a lot of those archetypes, nor do they like vicariously living through MCs like Ataru, who was never meant to be a self-insert for the audience.

Man, that takes me back.
I used to ruin my eyes with Simpsons episodes in 9 mb rm's, the size of a postage stamp.

>Give it 3 episodes. If you like them, you'll enjoy the series.
Can't say I agree with this. While there are some good episodes at the start, like episode 10, I think the anime only really becomes consistently good at about episode 40-50. IT's when Oshii started taking reigns. Before that, they tried to make the anime too kiddy.

There are plenty of shows with the same and more personality and charm. You wouldn't really know yourself because you're an idiot who hasn't seen those shows yet.

It's not my fault you were stupid enough to believe only the films were experimental. Again, wouldn't have happened if you watched the show.

Urusei Yatsura as a whole is worth watching because it's funny, creative, interesting and has some of the most iconic and memorable characters who's influence are still strong to this day.

No argument? No problem.

You're irrelevant until you actually watch Urusei Yatsura.

>Before that, they tried to make the anime too kiddy.
What are you talking about? The early parts of the series directly referenced and talked about sex much more than later on.

First 3 episodes highlight exactly the type of humor the series is known for, and if it doesn't appeal to you, it's probably not worth continuing. Personally, I love it.

What other series features a relationship similar to Ataru and Mendou's?

My argument was pretty clear. There are plenty of shows with the same and more personality and charm. You wouldn't really know yourself because you're an idiot who hasn't seen those shows yet.

Gun.

School Rumble - Harima and Hanai

Are you kidding? Did you forget the chapter where Ten, Sakura, Lum and Ataru go watch a porno movie? In the anime they replace that (and the jokes that came with it) with a shitty fireworks with Ten, Momotaro and other baby critters. Momotaro was an one-off character in the manga that appears several times in the anime. What about the new year's filler episode where Mendou appears before his introduction? And I'm sure I'm missing more.

Early UY anime is very weak. I actually hated it when I first saw it on TV, but as it progressed, I ended up loving it.

The show ended 30 years ago, so no. Anime, mistake, sadmiyazaki.png, etc.

...

Keep your shit taste to yourself. Early anime was great.

>b-but it wasn't like the manga!
Oh, you're one of those fags. No wonder.

...

The reason why there won't be another Urusei Yatsura is because Urusei had so much talent who at one point who had a hand in the show.
No show today could live up to its legacy.

I actually would say that if UY is worth watching in its entirety or not depends entirely on if you enjoy the characters and humour. Other than that it is a rather long but overall fairly well made, historically significant show with some highlights sprinkled in.

There is absolutely zero point in forcing yourself through all of that for a number of more experimental episodes though. Just like I wouldn't suggest it was a good idea to watch the entirety of Naruto for that purpose. If that happened to be your bag though and you enjoy the show itself yeah definitely worth it.

Otherwise just watching a decent chunk of episodes and the important films will be sufficient to give you enough of an idea of what its all about for historical purposes and anime culture understanding which is kind of essential.

This whole if you don't think its the best thing ever you haven't seen it, and nothing else can possibly compare to its charm and personality thing is just obnoxious and makes the fanbase look awful by the way.

...

someone post anno's animation cuts please

>This whole if you don't think its the best thing ever you haven't seen it, and nothing else can possibly compare to its charm and personality thing is just obnoxious and makes the fanbase look awful by the way.
Welcome to Cred Forums, newfriend.

Is this the nostalgia circlejerk thread?

It's funny because that episode had some dogshit animation alongside amazing animation.

It's like poetry, it rhymes.

I've been posting here far too long. It is just particularly the kind of argument you expect more out of fans of the likes of LoGH where it is the first lengthy anime they have ever actually completed and think it makes them part of the special club of elitists with the good taste to have done so. Maybe UY is attracting that sort of fan more on Cred Forums now though I don't know I haven't really been following all the recent attention it has been getting.

Do you like Bunny Girl Lum?

a.pomf.cat/fuoczz.webm

Gun.
youtu.be/6nZDf45nkgQ

besides money, what would it take to gather the talent like uy had to make a series?

always the same thread

Yeah, Monster.

Stop making this thread

It's not about sharing what you like with others, it's about feeling superior to everyone else who doesn't get it. Which is hilarious because it's fucking Urusei Yatsura of all things.

Change starts with yourself. Ganbatte user kun.

(You)

A smaller industry.

If it were made today, it would probably be animated by Sunrise's Z team and be filled with shit looking CG.

In 1981, they left it to some no-name up & comers: Mamoru Oshii and Yuji Moriyama among others.

Why do some people on Cred Forums rate Lum the Forever just as highly as Beautiful Dreamer?

The first half might have been alright, but the second half didn't make any sense, and it was in a bad way. Just one big clusterfuck.

Unfortunately no. All the wotas care about these days is cute autistic girls doing cute autistic things or gorgeously animated slices of nothing.

...

we'll see, I need something to pick me up after watching Now and Then, Here and There.

i'm a sucker for 90's junk, so i've got Dirty Pair Flash lined up.

Why are there no harem protags as cool as Otaru was? He had an actual personality, he gave no fucks about what others thought of him, he knew pretty much exactly what he wanted Pussy: The End!

Even shows like Tenchi as great as the actual Harem was, i still wonder what any of them saw in Tenchi. He had no real personality. I guess the Otaku are ment to hollow out these characters and insert themselves but they are so fucking boring in comparison.

anyone have sub file for only you?

Yes.

Which version though?

whatever will work with
nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=836359

Firstly, I wouldn't recommend that personally. It's the BD version, which means the top and bottom were cropped out of the original 4:3 version to fit the 16:9 ratio. They also cut the opening scene so they could censor the nazis at the start. It might be the best quality version, but you're missing part of the movie.

I'd personally recommend this:

nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=758043

It's an r2j DVD upscale, but it still looks good, it's 4:3 and the soft subs are already there.

If you still want the BD version, try this:

ytssubtitles.com/urusei-yatsura-only-you/tt0086520/148548

Might require a slight resync though.

...

Yeah I've already have/seen that version I want both versions of all the movies though. Do you have subs for the rest?

so what would it take to get an urusei yatsura remake
i mean osomatsu got one so why not this?

Beautiful Dreamer torrent had softsubs:

nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=648699

If you extract them with mkvmerge, you can use them with the 1080p version too:

nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=649232

As for Remember my Love, there's a sub file on Nyaa, although it might need a slight resync:

nyaa.se/?page=view&tid=842214

As for Lum the Forever, I used these, but not sure about the BD version. Again, slight resync may be required:

opensubtitles.org/en/subtitles/6439806/urusei-yatsura-4-ramu-za-foeba-en

You can also find sub files for all the movies in the bottom link in this post: so it's probably worth experimenting. Unfortunately it's hard to give a perfect answer.

About 10 years, when the manga hits it's 50th anniversary. It won't be the same without the old VAs though.

Because UY isn't a harem anime, Ataru only dreams about having a harem, but the only girl that actually cares about him is Lum. Shinobu dumped him when Shuutaro appears. And every other girl is not interested on Ataru, they only pretend in some instances due to personal convenience/revenge on Lum, etc.

...

thats good enough for me as im 22 right now

Show had some really cool guitar pieces:

youtube.com/watch?v=vklRcjTKHkA
youtube.com/watch?v=7rb8HNe31Vc
youtube.com/watch?v=sbeauKjmrRM

...

...

>Hachamecha Daikonran

It's so good

...

I like UY. But there's plenty of shows with better personality or 'charm'.

Shinobu was hotter than Lum.

I don't think I know what I'm doing trying to resync the subs

...

Sounds like you don't know what personality or charm is.

Sounds like you're an angry fanboy. But getting mad at people isn't going to make them like Urusei Yatsura more.

First make sure you have the right subtitle file. Only You has a whole 5 minute scene cut out so the BD subs should have a shorter duration than the 4:3 release.

If the subs still need resyncing, download SubtitleEdit, open the ass/srt file, click Synchronization > Adjust all times (show earlier/later) and experiment a little. Try to remember the timecodes when you're watching with the out of sync subs; it should help you gauge exactly how many seconds you need to show earlier/delay.

Sorry, there's little to get mad over when someone as dumb as yourself uses words he doesn't understand.

Are you sure?

youtube.com/watch?v=5HWc3SDGmy0

Pretty sure.

...

I like how they even reproduced the original film's grain.

...

At least the soundtrack and visual direction were god tier.

youtube.com/watch?v=0hRcZcHo-kk
youtube.com/watch?v=vw9TLRLiHFQ
youtube.com/watch?v=FE9omt3fR2M

Also had the best ED. That song playing during the credits, where all those photos of the good memories are being shown is the biggest tear jerker of the whole series; a genuinely emotional farewell.

...

Coming soon.

...

Hopefully it never happens.

Watching the Obstacle Swim Meet OVA from 2008, I'm finding it extremely hard to watch. Hard to explain, but Urusei Yatsura is a series meant for the 80s.

>Obstacle Swim Meet OVA from 2008
But that was amazing.

The only kinds of shows that should get remakes are shows which had potential, but never met them. Urusei Yatsura was one of the best shows of the 80s and doesn't need a remake. Plus it has a huge chance of being much worse.

Something like Blue Seed or Lost Universe could do with a remake.

Should they have remade Osomatsu-kun?

a.pomf.cat/chwxev.webm

I don't know. I haven't watched that show yet.

Azumanga Daioh had a lot of personality and charm.

I've been saying this and nobody agrees with me on this.

Out of any series in all of anime, I don't think you could ever replace the original voice of Ataru kun. Its the only ecchi/comedy series I know of where the main male lead is more interesting and funny than the females.

>girl tries to pet a cat's head
>it bites her
HILARIOUS! LAUGHING OUT OF MY BOOTS!

I see it as a chaotic slice of life.

>guy upsets little alien
>little alien breaths fire in his face

QUALITY CONTENT!

At least they take the gag further than the starting point.

>Blue Seed
So basically Inu Yasha

They do with the cats as well.

Since Azumanga Daioh uses the same gag over multiple episodes, then develops the gag to an ending point, I think they do that just fine.

You seem to be confusing Azumanga Daioh with Nichijou.

Sorry, I'll admit I'm misinformed. I watched episode 1 of Azumanga Daioh several years ago and dropped it half way through episode 1 because it was painfully unfunny.

At least it wasn't the worst though. I dropped Lucky Star after 30 seconds.

I don't see any similarity of Blue Seed and Inu Yasha except a casual use of Shinto references.

> I dropped Lucky Star after 30 seconds
I did the same. A show can't survive on cuteness alone for me. I need some kind of engaging story, action and/or humor.
Then i realise that i haven't watched Lucky Star, i was thinking of Kill Me Baby.

;_;

Have you guys notice how good the last part of Beautiful Dreamer and Pink Floyd's Echoes goes together?

youtube.com/watch?v=azOTFjUUN9M

>he likes pink floyd
Kill yourself

...

This is fucking true. I am not NEET so I cannot fucking self-insert anymore

You were self-inserting before?

This is the reason why Urusei Yatsura is superior
youtube.com/watch?v=DTBH8AQ84mY

>posting a shit quality episode instead of the BD rip that was uploaded

Even shit quality episode of UY can beat any modern HD anime

...

Ataru steals the show:

youtube.com/watch?v=HMZx5Q286mo

...

...

Trigger still makes shows pretty similar in appearance and composition, but nothing is ever good enough for Cred Forums.

I doubt most people here watched Luluco.

That's because Trigger is garbage, and tries way too hard. Oshii is an artist, Imaishi is a manchild.

fäk you user

I watched it, it was okay.
Wouldn't compare it to UY though...

This man truly knows what he wants.

Just picked it up thanks to this thread. Post more screencaps/webms, they're amazing.
