9/11 was the day that millions of American children watched their parents lose their minds. The bigger disagreement is how early in the 80s millenials started. 80-84 is the usual range. Personally, I prefer millenials as 80 to 99.

I do think there's legitimate space for criticizing the notion of larger generation groups in recognizing the tremendous rate of social, cultural, and technological change now. Generations are in part meant to mark such changes and points of significances. If you compress so many major shifts into too small a container you're liable to lose detail of significance.
