It's pretty much the perfect formula for cultivating a fandom. All the characters have easy to edit sprites to streamline the OC process, there's a lot of lore and mystery to cultivate theories, fanfic, and AUs, and with it's troll romance system it basically turned shipping into a weird polygamist puzzle so you can pair off one character four times without anybody cheating on eachother

It was better starting out. Compare now, where I think a rough estimate put a complete read through at about 21 hours if I remember correctly, to back in the day when all it was was a neat story with a unique premise with kickass music thrown in.

For me, the whole story was a slog to archive through but once I got caught up it was much less of a chore and I could actually enjoy it, and pure habit kept me reading it even after I stopped thinking it was great. The only thing that actually kept me going was my trust in the Huss from how good Problem Sleuth was and the cool animation/music that it would feed me every so often.

The first part of Homestuck was back when he was still using user submitted commands. Most people agree that it's Act 2 when the story picks up. That's when he realized he was getting so many commands that he could do pretty much whatever he wanted and just did the story solo pretty much

Homestuck started becoming shit when Hussie decided to "branch out" and start doing things besides it. It's very obvious he is completely unable to do anything more than one project at a time. It probably stressed him out and Hussie, being Hussie, took it out on the comic and his fans. Thus turning Homestuck into putrid shit.

I wrote literal essays (I'm talking pages of paragraphs) about why Eridan was important because of a shit ton of world-building clues. I now think Hussie put a lot of that stuff in to troll the ever living fuck out of fans. He (before Cronus, who is just super-Eridan) considered Eridan the worst character in the comic. It all made so much sense. Fuck I'm getting angry.

It became shit when he literally retconned the most popular characters into being gay
