3DS barely has any of this. They could easily check SD contents to detect needed files for a9lh or most CFW but either choose not to or don't know how (which is really pathetic). CFW could also easily be sniffed out by checking the contents of files in NAND and FW against a list of what they should be for the given FW version. Even a very simple check for the version string displayed to System Settings is an easy way to detect hax since many CFW/emunands mark them with SYS or EMU or GW for user safety and convenience.

so before i sold them, i used JKSV save manager to export them from my games, and import that exact save for all of the same games i downloaded for free. so i have all my pokemon, all my animal crossing friends, etc. it's fucking awesome.

Switching to A9LH/Luma would be much better, you can transfer your existing configuration to it, and it's a much much more stable and future-proof solution.
You won't depend on an EmuNAND any more, boot rates for the system and games are far more reliable, installing GBA/DSiWare titles is hassle free, the system becomes region free, you can force N3DS clockspeeds on all titles if using an N3DS system, etc.
NAND backup utilities are more reliable and can be performed before even booting the 3DS firmware using Hourglass9

You can't say the same of 3DS roms loaded using a Sky3DS or Gateway, since they use headers Nintendo can detect foul play.
Digital titles are headerless.

Nintendo has literally no way to differentiate between games installed via freeshop or the actual eshop.

They don't even ask for authentication to download from their own servers.

He can go and find an special edition 3DS that you know were manufactured before 11.0 rolled out.

If you have a way to get into homebrew on 11.0 like OoThax, you can just get JK's save manager to back up all your save data from pretty much any game other than DSiWare.

As for "home menu," I don't know what you mean. If you mean your theme that you bought from eshop, pretty much all of them can be downloaded once your 3DS is hacked.

Actually, they are not completely headerless. Instead they use your unique console ID as key.

But it would be so easy to check. Like comparing the list of games certain console with NID linked paid for with list of games that said console tried to connect with, since digital ones will all share same unique console ID instead of cart header.

That's the problem, JK's Save Manager, svdt, save_manager, Hans, etc, have a temperamental success rate when trying to launch certain titles.
I think some titles have protection that prevents you from doing this, Pokémon Picross for example I can't save dump but Pokémon Shuffle I can.

I'm using V*Hax as my entry point, is save dumping more reliable with different entry points? Or is there some other factor for why I can't seem to tamper with certain game titles?

JK's Save Manager can do that.
Insert your game card, launch JKSM, and dump savegame from game card.
You'll then be able to select the matching digital title from the SD/CIA list and install the save game you dumped that way.
You could also do the reverse and dump a save from SD/CIA to restore to game card if you liked.

This is also possible with Gateway cards but it's not as straight forward.

I honestly don't know as I haven't had any issues with JKSM (possibly because I have it installed as a home menu app). I'd ask on GBATemp, as they usually have advanced 3DS hackers lurking who can answer stuff.

Yes, there are many ways.
You can play SNES games injected to N3DS VC titles, use one of the libretro emulators like CATSFC, PocketSnes, etc, or use Snes9X for Old3DS which has the goal of optimising SNES gameplay for even old 3DS with certain hacky methods.

You can play Mega Drive games using Sega 3D Classic titles injected with other megadrive roms. They won't display in 3D, but fundamentally the software is just an emulator with a specially designed rom in it, meaning you can swap the rom.
There are also libretro emulators like Picodrive and Genesis Plus.

The Low Poly set work pretty nicely for theme shuffle, they don't have custom music though but work really well as a default theme substitute.

You can play games installed via CIA without getting banned, and even if you get banned, you can restore from a backup NAND to get unbanned (I think).

Nintendo 3DS online doesn't use NNID or anything. It's all linked to your system's NAND, and the only requirement for playing games online is internet connection and sometimes a Mii.

ay. i just did the same thing weeks ago. this improvement is beyond the gods.

its fairly simple. once you have the 3ds nub off, you need to take a look at the bottom of the analog stick and where the nub was. the nub is a square, and the fitting on the analog stick is a rectangle, so you just put that shit on there and push it down till you can see its in and you know it will be in.

you shouldnt be able to move the stick around. when you get it on just turn off your 3ds so it resets the nub, and go into a game like monster hunter to try it out. it works amazingly
