Is there any way to get a boost to max level or something like that? I find leveling pretty boring on this game, and is only bearable to play with friends. I remember having a lot of fun with the endgame shit on the base game, then Heavensward dropped, I took a few months of break, bought and got back into the game, and just couldn't get myself to still grind the levels, even though the raids and shit look fun. I'm not interested on the story, and even if I were, I skipped everything and am not going to start the game over again just because of it.

Aaaaaalrigt, I should know better than argue anything on here. 1.0/1.23 was a technical mess with technically flawed content. None of the fights were any more intersting/memorable than 2.0 onward, but suffered from the heavily flawed system/tech they were built upon. Again, I never said 2.0+ was anything great, but it's a solid, as in working properly, that has content. You're welcome to delude yourself into thinking 1.0 was somehow anything more than a broken technical beta. 1.23 didn't fix anything, simply made it that much closer to an actual game. Yoshi had presence in the redesign of the core mechanics/systems and the streamlined approach to content. I'm not saying any of that is good, but it's fucking working and approachable, which is fucking lightyears better than anything ever present in 1.23.

The combat "remake" was just a holdover and a beta test from early ARR concepts, it still used existing abilities and animations, even "new" job abilities were already in the DATs, while it also removed a bunch of abilities, broke the elemental wheel and completely removed Water magic to this very day. Optimization is something that would have happened with more time under any director, only a few graphics were created under Yoshida for 1.0 and most of them were already in the DATs, some assets were even used for HW like some weapons.

You can be a contrarian all you want but it still doesn't change the fact Yoshida got his overrated reputation by "fixing" 1.0 with content and fixes that weren't even made by him. Again we're talking about what he "did" for 1.0 and its patch series in the first place which you don't fucking seem to understand. 2.0 is a different story yet it's still almost entirely tied to the work done during 1.0 both under Tanaka and Yoshida's "work".

Anyway, 1.0 was different from 1.23 so I specifically say 1.23 and not 1.0 which I know was terrible. The difference between 1.0 and 1.23 is major, with almost all the inconveniences of 1.0 now resolved (like the market wards, adding friends to linkshells, fatigue) but it needed a new engine to actually fix it, thus 2.0 happened, but I'm not concerned about the engine.
The problem I see from 2.0 is that it never brought along what made 1.x enjoyable for people (yes, people enjoyed that game) and what people hoped aside from a good engine which was granted. Open world content is pretty non-existent or irrelevant in this game now, there's no sense of mystery or exploration, the open world mobs and Mob AI is a complete downgrade, the story, story delivery, cutscenes were horrible and the combat which is faster, sure, is very braindead and clunky. Plus there's just so much wasted potential after Yoshi decided to make it a themepark WoW clone.

Now the game is just a recycled mess with mostly piss-easy and lazily designed content and I really wonder why people give a damn about 1.0's copy-paste zone while not giving a fuck about Yoshi's stale and predictable patch cycle.

When it was first announced, there were people who felt that the cash shop shouldn't be added, but at the same time there were a lot of people who were supportive of it as long as it wasn't pay to win like Yoshida said. Sure 2.0 might have made a profit from boxed and digital sales, but it's not saying much with how shit Squeenix was doing as a whole even before 2.0, and considering all the resources spent on remaking it, it barely cut close. That's on top of the extra burden and setbacks it placed on all the teams it kidnapped for 2 years, especially the XV team, which ended up costing more in the end.

There's also the fact they stopped reporting XIV's "great" profits just one year later and just lumped it with their other MMOs for a greatly combined number of less than 1 million subs between all of them. The only thing they note in their reports is how profitable its merchandise is but say nothing about its failing subs and sales.

Wada leaving the company the same year ARR launch contributed far more to Squeenix's resurgence than anything Yoshida and ARR have done, but Wada also didn't leave before giving out one last fuck you by appointing the hack as corporate executive in charge of the entire MMO division.

They are but XIV isn't like other vertical MMOs because the main story adds up. In other MMOs, it doesn't matter if you start at one of the expansion areas or not but in XIV it does. Even if you're not interested in the story, XIV is designed so that no matter how new you are, you will still get a very similar experience as someone who started the game when the content was new thanks to level sync and roulettes.

People go there because the JP community as a whole is way better than NA/EU servers in terms of content, but don't expect to really find a big english playerbase

It's a shame the Aussies get shafted so much. The Europeans got their own servers a few months back so they can play pretty comfortably. You guys only have a couple servers where lag is considered tolerable. The areas are going to be way more populated in the later areas and you won't have to worry about queues too much since it's all data centre based and not server based.

AST healing needs to be redesigned from scratch.

Its not a matter of just making them "on par" with the other healers, but just being a clone of the other 2 healers will always guarantee that one is better than the other in every situation. Its impossible to balance in that context.

They need a specific niche that makes it better than some healers in some fights and worse than some healers in other fights. There's plenty of styles to fucking choose from if you just want to copy WoW like they've done with basically everything else.

As much as I prefer XIV, I think all the roles need to take more from WoW. Excepting like, WAR, SCH and SMN, there's a huge problem right now with redundancy. Melee and ranged DPS are mostly interchangeable, PLD is a mess and you have it right about AST.

The fact that you can change classes on demands means that it's even less commitment to swap as your static needs too.

The other dude is right in that it needs to be rebuilt from the ground up: they need to make the healing component easier so they can make the buffing component harder and more involved. eg. Give AST smart heals (say, a lengthy cooldown with 2000 potency AoE skill that heals the target that's on the lowest HP% for 1000, the next two targets with 400 potency, and the fourth target 200), retool them so Synastry is a permanent buff you can toss out at whim, and give them a weaker stoneskin that bursts into a direct heal or HoT upon the breaking.
WHM has the high-throughput and HoT niches, SCH has the single-target and mitigation niches (they're actually too good at this job, but that aside) and AST is a weird mashup that only really has its wimpy buffs. Make "healing multiple targets at once" and "handsfree healing" their niches and they might just become a unique entity.

I personally think one of the most interesting changes they could do with astro is let them stance dance without dropping any regen or shield in the process. That would make the class so much more complex but it would probably require to nerf the regen a bit.

In the 2.X patches we got a lots and lots of new stuff, PvP, The gold Saucer, stuff like challenge log, beast tribe quests, housing, hunts, a new job and lot of other QoL stuff. While the only thing we've so far gotten in the Heavensward patches is trials/dungeons/raids.

2.0 was released ahead of schedule.
The early 2.X patches merely contained content intended to be included at launch, and a ton of unused/unintegrated 1.0 assets.

They ran out of recyclable content at about the 2.4 mark, and now they're just running on autopilot. We get less content per patch because at this point it has to be made from scratch.
It's also why they so shamelessly recycle skeletons now (eg. Glasya Labolas = Living Liquid, Ravana = Gilgamesh, Faust is just a reskinned Sagagin, etc.).

I don't think you've missed out much of the story at that level and you could always quickly catch up on the story reading it on the wiki.

I would at least not make a new character unless you want to play another race or on another server.

The Spriggan cap was found in the game files around the time of the event, and I spent HOURS gathering HUNDREDS of silver eggs from those spriggans on a 6-hour realworld time respawn timer hoping to get myself an exclusive glamour.
They eventually added the cap as an unhidden leather map reward, and this is the shit I got for my effort.

The solution to that is allowing different ways to approach a fight. Like when Ramuh first came out, using SMN to tank with Titan-egi was a very viable strategy. Then they patched it to stop people from doing that because they didn't like it. When you add in more freedom in fight design and give more defining abilities to each summon, then you make every summon viable.

But it's full of incentive by design, like any MMO. I gear so I can raid and do Ex bosses with a group which I like, which can be done in several ways and not just Tomestones.

I craft and gather so I can make all the really cool recipes with ease, relying on other FC specialists or gil to help me out.

I make gil because the market is really good and can be really fun and rewarding to manipulate, it also gives you alternative ways to do things and saves you a lot of time in the long run by just ironing out some roadblocks.

I do all the GS stuff because I like mini-games and the rewards, it's a fun activity and I'm glad it's getting changes in 3.4

I like PvP'ing because I wanted the glamour that was exclusive/titles. The Lone Wolf set actually ended up looking really nice with dye.

I do old content like 24 man raids, fates and dungeons because I'm slowly getting a relic quest, with the new wondrous trails it's an extra way to do more the varied content.

I might not have incentive to be a BiS player but I might try in 3.4 because that gear will be useful till 4.0 - but the gear you get way before will still help you a lot with other content you may want to face roll in general. But I like doing min ilvl too so I don't really mind BiS. To me it's fun rather then I need Legendary X.

Having said that, I think the game could use a bit more dynamic content in the world to slightly move away from instanced content in some cases.

Maybe simple things like having a puzzle-like dungeon as part of the overworld or a blizzard covering the land when a boss spawns.

Just something to have players work together other than, "I need x amount of people to come and do Sephirot."

Why the fuck would I spend time leveling NPCs for no reason on the off chance they might be implemented into content later? Surely they offer some rewards.

Oh I'd love more open world content, away from instances. I wanted hunts to be a bit more competitive/alternative way of teaming as an FC to kill bosses or make fates more dynamic or something, since those two aspects are rather weak and could bring a lot to the world aspect of the game. It would also encourage FC/general partying of all kinds. I really think they do a great job of keeping everything relative, but that is something they are lacking in for sure.

Tried the beta up to level 30. Game is easy and boring as fuck. You barely get any interesting abilities. Or abilities at all really.

Nah it really doesn't. I used to be good, but they managed to dumb down everything to oblivion because 90% of the player base suffers from down syndrome.

Legion's world quests are basically just fates...except they're structured in a way that encourages everyone to do them because it directly provides incentives for progression. Everything XIV has atm can be tweaked to encourage more world participation but yoship chooses to be retarded.

That's because GW2 killed GW1 long before actually releasing. The original plan was to keep releasing expansions along the lines of Factions and Nightfall indefinitely, and they had such a ludicrously efficient content pipeline that they could have produced something like that once or twice a year.

Then they decided near the end of Nightfall that they'd rather make a new game instead that ripped a bunch of shit from WoW, so they pinched off everything they were working on into what became Eye of the North and more or less abandoned the game for GW2, which is why GW1 only got piddling little pity updates for five years and died because of it.

All the interesting abilities are Job abilities, and those don't unlock until after level 30. retard.

At level 30 you only have about a third of your skills, and most of the ones you have are cookie cutter or useless.

GW1 PVE was dead, dead, DEAD. The moment they introduced overpowered PVE-only skills and customizable henchmen was the death of GW1 PVE, more expansions wouldn't have changed this fact, people would have still speedran all through it with their invincible N/RT squads and their cookie-cutting PVE skills only builds.

Faction was the last true GW experience, NF killed the game and EOTN was only the nails in the coffin.

They used to cap it at 20, just past Ifrit. They increased it to 30 a month ago or something. Terrible idea if you ask me, 20-30 is the worst part of the game.

They will likely increase it to 50 by the next expansion.

It's been 3 months since his release and there are still tons of people that haven't killed him yet.

1/3 of 500k players has even beaten the casual LFR story mode version.

Ignore the salty WoW shitposters plaguing the thread. There's enough to do to keep a person busy for months, just take it slow. Level something you'd like (Not Gladiator), enjoy some of the battle content (Combat gets extremely active and excellent at 60). Try out crafting and gathering, it's excellent when you get in the full swing of things, save up for houses (more coming in 4.0) or get an apartment for now in 3.4 and have fun exploring. Just take it easy and see what you gravitate towards. Enjoy the soundtrack for the fights too, it's crazy how much good music the game has.

Not him but Legion made WoW a lot more hardcore than it was before. On top of Mythic guilds needing to juggle several alts, the AP grind made it incredibly fucked.

You have to play 14+ hours a day to keep up with the best Mythic guilds on the server because of the AP grind.

You need 65,000,000 AP per characters, and the last research you do to increase your AP gain still requires 650 "tokens" (You get 1 per daily heroic dungeon) to complete 1 trait, when there are 54 in total.

I don't think FFXIV has anything as bullshit as that.
