Kiryu was the second-most boring guy in that game (though he still had some fun individual setpieces within his chapter). Akiyama & Saejima's chapters were fun and distinct, Tanimura's started out okay and then the plot kicked in halfway through and everything got weird.

With Haruka, fact is that as long as she hangs around with Kiryu bad shit is never not going to happen to her. She's either gonna have to let him go or suffer, that's how the story seems to be anyway.

He acts as the lifeline of desperate people, he doesn't want anyone who just wants the money to buy a car, he wants to help people desperate enough to go to a shady loan shark, and prove they can turn around their situation.

There's no point when Yakuza Kiwami is a remake with new content and that Yakuza 2 will probably be remade too.

I didn't get a chance to try it, most booths required you to have a ticket to get in line to demo it, and I didn't know that ahead of time. I had a good time overall, though. Mostly played VR indie games.

It's Kiryu > Saejima > Akiyama > Shinada, with the grab problem that you mentioned being the bane of Shinada's moveset.

Akiyama is supposed to be the "combo" character but his moveset is too linear and railroaded to ever get too creative, and his moveset just doesn't feel as powerful as the other guys too in my opinion.

Saejima's still braindead as ever but he has a bit more variety in his moveset than in 4 atleast, best Heat Moves in the game too I feel.

Kiryu just has that right amount of balance between everything. His heat follow-ups (which don't actually require heat anymore in 5 for some reason...) to his charge attacks are fun.

Unless 3-5 ever go up on psnow (which I hear is shit), I think you may be out of luck, unless you buy another PS3. I mean some of us are hoping that 3-5 get remastered versions eventually, but that's still up in the air.

Since you plan on starting with 1, I'd like to warn you now in advance that the combat in that one isn't as good as in the later games, and it's aged rather poorly in some ways. Even if you end up hating 1, I think you should still play 2, as it's a big improvement.

4 is a decent starting point, if you can't play (or refuse to play) the earlier games. The remake of the first game is pretty damn good, but who knows if it will actually get localized.

Yeah it's pretty heavy, 3 still my fave in the series along with 5 but the cuts were heavy and went beyond just tweaking and cutting some of the dialog.

I've just marathoned Yakuza 1-5. First time playing the series. Theres some great writing in these games, but also stuff thats dumb as fuck. In like every game in the series there is multiple moments that are 'ha! I wasn't really dead/defeated so now I will fuck shit up!'. Seriously, like half the conflicts in the plot could be solved by 'and then they checked he was actually dead before moving on'.

Well for 1, the combat in Yakuza isnt piss easy like sleeping dogs. Another thing is Sleeping dogs is more like GTA where you can drive cars. In Yakuza each city is like a hub world where you do the story in a linear but at your own pace way. Also alot of minigames including what I think is the superior Kareoke minigame however sleeping dogs uses real songs while Yakuza has songs made for that game, good ones at that.

Use ScpToolkit and make it emulate xbox controller. Maybe there are other methods to make buttons press-sensetive, but it's not needed in Yakuza, so I don't know.

I absolutely hate playing GTA because I feel the world is "too open".

Yakuza is just there in the borderline of "going fully open" for me. It also helps that I like the characters.

Same. I hate open world "sandbox" games, but I love Yakuza. It's big enough to give me some freedom, but it's not the type of boring as fuck game were it takes 15 minutes to walk/drive from one side of the map to the other. The substories/side content also feel meaningful to me since even though they're repetitive, they actually have some narrative to them, they aren't just walk on marker and do some timed kill/defend/escort/race bullshit with no context behind them at all.

In all seriousness, whether we get 6 fairly soon or not, I think is going to depend on two things. 1. If 0 manages to sell above their expectations (I may even buy two copies and give one away)
2. Whether they decide to localize Kiwami or not.

I'm a bit worried if they decide to do Kiwami first. Now yes, it is a good game and all, and the Majima content is nice. But narrative wise, it's still mostly a game that a lot of us have already played. If they decide to do Kiwami first, I really do see us getting 6 in 2020 or beyond.

I don't know about you guys, but I don't think I can wait that long to see how Kiryu's story ends. I will have to import it and trial and error my way through it again, which wont be as fun.

If you do import it. Try looking up Salty Yen on youtube as he'll probably do a playthrough of it. He did Y0 and Ishin. He translates almost every sentence/dialogue in the main story (unless they talk about something complex and very fast, then he'll just summarize it at the end but it doesn't happen that often).

Are the emulation setting for two the same as one?

I too used the tiger drop alot, even though I dislike using it more than once in a while and because I like the parry more. But honestly, when your enemy has 90000 HP and the battle is more like a grinding of HP than proper epic, mixed moves (something caused in due part because of diminishing HEAT damage returns as well as lacking variety of HEAT options in the boss fight arenas), you learn to stop giving a fuck and just punish the shit out of the enemy instead. Hell, the Kiryu AI likes to do the same

That's how I've played Ishin. Watched his videos during cutscenes and dialogues, and used KHH when looking up other stuff (like leveling up, minigames and such). IIRC Salty already said he'll do play through and translate Y6 when it comes out.

Should I start with the 1-2 HD? I'm studying basic moon rune and it's going pretty well so far. I also heard there's some cut content bullshit with 3 and 4, so I'm thinking of getting the moon versions for those as well.

Yeah, of course, those are great starting points. I don't know how difficult the moon runes are in those games though. You could also play Kiwami (remake) instead of the first game, since it improves it by a lot and also adds quite a bit of extra content.

I actually started playing Yakuza 3 recently because a I found a copy at a garage sale.

Game is pretty fun, but what's up with the dating element of it? There are hearts that fill up for the first 2 dates, but then I do a mission with them and they go MIA or some shit. What they say about the minigames is true though, literal 10/10's.

No, only 3 has cut content. 4 only has the intro song and a moonrune quiz minigame that was cut because it wasn't convenient to the devs to edit it.

Piss off, 1 and 2 had great stories.

The dating mini game was cut from the Western versions of yakuza 3 (along with some sidequests).

I think I'll stick to 1-2 and finish all the PS3 games, then hop on to PS4 when I get the chance.

Man the twists in 2 were something else. Established characters from the first game become antagonists as part of a 20 year revenge plot against the Tojo clan.

3 is better than 1 and 2 in every single way, and 4 was worse than 3 by having 4 playable characters, with only 2 of them being good. Everyone on earth rushed through the game to be Kiryu, and that's just a fact.
