Why is the EE so..laggy?
Is it locked at 30fps or something. It's a damn shame. Not played this game in years but I remember how fun it was. Got to mission 6 with EE and the game just feels laggy.

I wish the soundmixing was better in the intro. The battle sounds are really underwhelming.

Kinda the same goes for the game. I love Age of Mythology to death, but I wish all the combat sounds had more of a bite to them. Like in Age of Empires 1 you heard a bunch of metal on metal and loud death screams, but Age of Mythology felt a bit muted.

there is one after the prison break in egypt. You have to capture and take away the osiris body part. But there is a timer. If you let it pass it gets moved to a lot tougher part of the map

Why was Age of Mythology so great but Age of Empires 3 so ok?

I blame it on the lack of unit variety. You could get away with it on the earlier games because there just wasn't enough power to fully differentiate the units. Age of Mythology was a step in the right direction with the myth units, but imagine if the Minotaur was actually able to charge into a chunk of infantry and scatter them that way, or hoplites would actually form up into a proper line so that multiple rows could attack. Unit counters and uses would be defined more by how a unit behaves rather than its numerical modifiers.

I think that would have added a lot of really neat strategy to the game.

Anyway, what other civs would you guys like to see in a theoretical Age of Mythology 2? Try and keep your suggestions within the bounds of 800BC-800AD

Age of Mythology caught a ton of slack for being more like Starcraft than Age of Empires 2.You must understand the AoE2 players were a really, really nasty lot so the game got shafted by the fanbase for not being enough like AoE2.
So Ensemble reverted to a more traditional approach with AoE3... and it solved nothing because anything that isn't AoE2 wouldn't satisfy them.

Age of Empires Online was actually a better game than all three of those but that game started out as a big middle finger by the Ensemble employees and only got good after years of work Gas Powered Games put into it.
Too bad it's online only and therefore lost with the servers.

AoE3 is more combat oriented, wouldn't recommend.

I know. It's the Forgotten Empires team, not Ensemble. Again though, I have sympathy for FE. They aren't the ones who slapped together Expanded Edition, they were just commissioned by Microsoft to make Tale of the Dragon. They're a small indie studio trying to keep these RTS games from over a decade ago alive which I am happy for.

There were many cards that were intrinsically more powerful than other cards at the same level.

Why bother with a 6 musketeer card when you can pick a 7 musketeer card?

Biggest complaint I've seen is that people hated colonial theme. My one friend hates it claiming it's "too modern" and that AoE is about building castles and shit and that if he wanted guns he'll play Empire Earth.

He's not even good at AoE2 either and that's besides the point that AoE entire gimic is about the evolution of your civ. It makes complete sense that it would go to colonial times and even to the modern area.

It's mainly ment for people who turtle or game that go one really, really long. All the upgrades that happen are super exspenive and also super powerful so it makes a huge difference if you choose one upgrade over the other in that era.

Also ending at the Industrial Age is an odd place to end it. The imperial age in AoE3 is a few years before WW1 which is when the real technological advancments start taking place for the modern era. The Imperial age is more of a transition period leading up to WW1 which AoE 4 was going to be modern military themed, so from WW1 to about the 90's/early 2000's era.

The Atlantean Expansion is great, more of the same as normal AoM but with more hold out/defense missions

It is actually really easy, even on Titan. He never lands on your part of the map and just patrols the river with boats. You don't even have to engage his giant fleet because you can wait for them to pass. If you wait for Mythical age you can use Phoenixes and siege ships to destory his island before riding in.

The new addon is shit. The Chinese visuals are very bad (the fucking lion is just the Greek one with wings and the Salamander is just a black log of shit). The characters aren't even camp and funny. Shit addon.

it really is starcraft, aom. you need a solid build order and early-game dominance to get a guaranteed win, because in the midgame the ai will just spam units at you after their first few raids.
seems like all the top strategies involve rushing, whether it's with loki, oranos, kronos, or set. you just have to know what to do with your major god and have some decent fortune with resource placement.

Never played 3, someone explain home cities to me

when you do shit you get points ingame. You can click on your point meter and then you go to your home town screen. Here you can click on a card. That consumes some points and it will be shipped to you. For example after getting a point you can go to your home town, click on the 2 villager card, and after a while you get 2 free villagers at your RC.

also when you win games you get exp which allows you to level up your home city and buy better cards. Cards can be things like resource crates (can be gathered super fast for a big resource boost), units, workers, quickbuild selfbuilding towers (a wagon that you can unpack into a tower) unique buildings like a factory (can constantly produce one resource for free, or build super cannons). Also some stuff is a bit more special like allowing you to use your minutemen ability again. Minutemen are troops you can instantly summon at your TC that fight for you. But they quickly drain HP and can only be summoned once
