No man's sky doesn't really exist, is more a group delusion, a game that's comprised 10% loose cuts of video footage with 90% imagination.
Frankly the game looks exactly like it did in the footage, so nobody really lied, except idiots who fell on the hype train lying to themselves, thinking it was going to be some crazy combination of every space-based game and every sci-fi movie and show wrapped into an infinite universe.

Now that this is settled I gotta ask: is procedural generation of everything really necessary? I got 250 hours from W3 and it felt fresh, at least to a degree, all the way through. Stuff like FTL does procedural generation to keep the adventure going and it often feels handcrafted.

I guess in an ideal world it would have been cool to have quality procedural generation but when you fucking know that what you do is basically change the texture color on stuff why do you even begin to think that it's a good enough idea to build a whole world around? When everything behaves the same and there are no surprises and you know that it's like that how do you stand up to thousand of people and tell them with a straight face that you are creating something amazing?
