Not the 'dank maymay' level.

Kojima is the master of that.

>instead of staying at Platinum to make Vanquish 2, he left to make TEW

Don't forget, he also made one of the most unique technical beat em' ups of all time. Shinji Mikami is a legend.

every game devs BTFO Kojima on every level.
he's a hack and MGS is shit

Who cares? Where's the nanomachines and parasites?

Funfact: The writer for Vanquish is a fucking farmer now.

>evil within is the last game he'll ever direct
>we will never get a sequel to vanquish
>not even a sequel to fucking binary domain

Mikami has made tons of great games but surpassing Kojima is not a hard thing to do at all, dude's a complete hack.

talk about low bar

>Resident Evil invents survival horror
>Resident Evil 4 invents the modern TPS
>Vanquish doesn't reinvent the wheel but is a very innovative TPS that could have used a sequel with tweaking and multiplayer

Clearly this is one of the most creative and innovative directors ever

>The Evil Within is derivative stale shit that just rips off other modern trends

what went wrong?

No idea. Too many yes men on his team? Pressure from ZeniMax to make a babbygame? We may never know.

Better than modern Resident Evil, that's for sure. I don't think he was out to make anything innovative with TEW, just to make Resident Evil.

Also, the game had ONE HELL OF A DEVELOPMENT and Tango Gameworks being a new studio meant they couldn't just do the whole RE development shit.

TEW was their THIRD game.

>invents the modern TPS
KillSwitch
Op. Winback etc.
There were traditional tps way before RE4

fuck

>KillSwitch
>Op. Winback etc.
literally whos

>never heard of operation winback

Mikami originally wanted to make a very different game than TEW.
>With Bethesda in the picture, Tango left Noah behind and started in on a new Mikami-directed triple-A project code-named Zwei — the German word for "two." That name wasn't a coincidence. Zwei was to be a vampire hunting action game starring a man and a woman attached by a chain. It was a cooperative game, with part of the gimmick being if someone played alone, they'd control both characters simultaneously with one following the other.
>As time went on, Zwei evolved into a single-player horror game — what Mikami would later call "pure survival horror" — set partially in a mental hospital.
>Mikami gives multiple reasons for the switch, saying he heard feedback that vampires hadn't been popular, and that team members pushed him to make a more traditional horror game.

>KillSwitch
That game was badass. I'm gonna play it again.

>Resident Evil 4 invents the modern TPS

get real, max payne was doing that 4 years before re4

EA fucks over Suda regarding Shadows of the Damned
Beth and Tango fucks over Mikami regarding Evil Within

You forgot to include that Noah was to be a sci-fi game. I really wonder who the publisher for that game was that left them high and dry.

>This man started the entire survival horror genre
le Alone in the Dark face

living the jeffersonian dream

>pretending the game no one ever heard of was influential for "patrician" credit

>This man started the entire survival horror genre

wrong. Maybe popularized it but that's different.

>Mikami invented tps
>no, there were tps games way before re4
>you're a patrician
top kek

What's wrong with The Evil Within? I liked the game as a solid 7 or 8/10.

Perfected

...

>This man started the entire survival horror genre.
Nah, Clock Tower did.
>This man revolutionized third person shooters.
Not really, no.
>This man created several highly successful, award-winning games.
RE 1 and 4 and uh.. yeah.

>Nah, Clock Tower did.
You mean Alone in the Dark

RE4 defined third person shooting. You forgot to add RE2, RE3 & DMC.

>RE4 defined third person shooting
No, it fucking didn't. There were plenty of third person shooters before it, including Max Payne and Syphon Filter.

RE 1 and 2 were really good. That's about it.

Youre not getting it. Re4 wasnt the first tps game, but it created most of the modern trends of the genre. RE4 was a game that influenced almost every shooter to adapt the behind the shoulder camera style

Cliff Bleszinski said there would be no Gears of War without Re4. You think every game adapting qtes around 2005-2006 was an accident?
