Final Fantasy no doubt.
Dragon Quest is always the same rehashed garbage

Final Fantasy
Dragon Quests combat is terrible and the story and characters so generic.

Lets compare

FF:

DQ:

FF. Only a moron would waste their time on DQ grindfest shit

DQ

DQ

As a whole, FF. With some exceptions, the quality is reliably good. And there are quite a few titles worthy of being called classics.

DQ simply does not have that same consistency, and too many titles are just "like the last one, but new names".

I've been liking Dragon Quest 4 more than any Final Fantasy game I've played in a long time.
More on topic, each series has its focus and good reasons for people liking them.

Final Fantasy is more about presentation, style, character melodrama, and buildup for large-scale final conclusions. You generally get presented with some high dangerous person/persons who will make it personal for the main characters, and who end up threatening the world itself. Most characters go through arcs where they have issues in their past revealed, and you get to see them deal with it and change over the game.

Dragon Quest is more focused on exploration, danger, local situations, and heroism. Most of the events you run across in Dragon Quest tend to be on a local scale, where you are going out and rescuing some kids or stopping a monster from destroying the nearby town or kingdom. Due to the way the games and combat is designed, wandering around tends to be risky and an ambush by a large group can kill several characters, if not all of them, and resurrection is rather difficult. Rather than having a single town or location you need to visit to progress the quest, you are handed a lot of hints about what to do next and how to proceed - and due to the hazards of combat, it's frequently a question of hunting down clues for powerful equipment to handle upcoming foes rather than assuming you'll have enough gold at the next town stop. And the big villain which will destroy the world is stopped because you're a big damn hero, not because you have some personal vendetta against them.

So Final Fantasy is for people who want more dramatic plots, want expressive characters, and want some grandiose spectacle during the end of the world. While Dragon Quest is for people who are looking for more low-key and personal plots, more wandering around to find things, and saving someone because it's the heroic thing for you to do.

DQ is more consistent but FF does hit some pretty big highs. I consider them pretty equal

they certainly made it personal in DQV,the hero had more than just a hard life

DQ
FF is gay af

Final Fantasy if you're a socialist, Dragon Quest if you're conservative

That was true in DQ2-4 as well, to an extent. However, 90% of what you are doing is still unrelated to any sense of personal vengeance. In a lot of Final Fantasy games, though, you're chasing down a specific person/group or actively going after their influence, as opposed to just helping towns out with their separate problems.

...

Dragon Quest is better. Final Fantasy as a franchise is a joke whore of a title thats lead its name to too many bad products. DQ is almost always a decent quality of game, not to mention being the perfection of classic turn based RPG mechanics. I prefer SaGa over both though.

I genuinely can't stand Final Fantasy outside of V.
DQ feels much more solid and consistent as a franchise.
I understand why FF does what it does, but I can't enjoy most of them. The spin-offs however are great, it seems both franchises share that.

FF fans can't even decide which games are good in their own series. Let that sink in

Never played either so I'm going with the one with Tifa

I can't compare it like that.
Some DQ games is better than FF and vice versa.
But the game i enjoy the most of both of them is DQVIII.

Oh God, dat Barbara is just so fucking sexy.

Dragon Quest VIII is better than the FF franchise as a whole. FF never really makes much sense outside of their internal bullshit metaphysics.

10ish years ago: FF
Now: DQ

well at least FF has the majority of its games available on PC.

Dragon Quest wins again, you mean?

how is it a win?

You can't play a good chunk of Dragon Quest games without an emulator. That's a win for Dragon Quest right there.

It all comes down to which has the hotter babes.

>That's a win for Dragon Quest right there.
How so?

dude shut the fuck up dude

Are you I say are you dumb, son?

Who cares, what really matters is that my opinion is better than yours.

SMT

How is making it unavailable on PC a 'win'?

You prefer the guys? That's fine, I suppose. Not my style, but whatever floats your Enterprise...

Final Fantasy doesn't have the terrible DB artstyle

Are you I say are you dumb, son? I mean, seriously. I already answered that.

I prefer Dragon Quest.

Less tryhard melodrama.

No, you begged the question. You're the one who's dumb.

>They don't make their games available on pc
>PC users who would gladly buy resort to emulating
>lost sales
>somehow a win
you're a fucking retard

Dragon Quest.
Final Fantasy comes off as graphics over gameplay for me, at least every game starting with X.

>You can't play a good chunk of Dragon Quest games without an emulator.

The fact you PCucks are so anally ravaged by this makes my loins tingle with joy.

Dragon quest is all about the epic journey and adventure

Final fantasy is about drama and epic fights

I like both equally, HOWEVER, Dragon Quest has the best girls

DQ, with the exceptions of DQ 1 and 2(which are both fairly boring by modern standards) and FFIV and V(which are on par, if not better than the best DQ games). It's way more consistent than the series that often tosses out every gameplay lesson they should have learned from the previous game.

Not sure I've enjoyed any games from either series.

Like the spinoffs. DQ Swords and FF Tactics. But mainline? Doesn't do much for me.
