She's a an older (Queen, not Princess), independently powerful woman that remains strongly feminine/motherly but maintains an equal relationship with Mario and grants him aid just as much as he returns it.

A part of Bayonetta is representated in Rosalina. A part of Lightning is represented in Rosalina. A part of the Oversluts is represented in Rosalina. She is the common thread, and that makes her the icon.

I was referring to being iconic in regards to the OP image rather than just this decade in itself. Only two of those could possibly be considered iconic in this decade, if even that.

Tifa is way more popular than Samus worldwide. Final Fantasy is even more popular in Asia than in it is in the west, and Metroid is even more irrelevant in Asia than it is in the west.

This is why Chun-Li is also more iconic than Lara Croft. Tomb Raider might as well not exist in the east.

Lightning got a major downgrade overall in LR. All of the definition on her face and muscles was basically sanded off. I think she looks fantastic in 13-2.

Pretty surprised about the vertex downgrade there. That said lowering the total # of vertices does not account for some clear design decisions made. I must admit that Lightning is a blur in 13-2 so I can very easily be wrong there.
