What are some games I can feel like a wandering samurai?
Way of the samurai 3 and the Witcher 3 come to mind
WotS4 too I guess but it's a lot more over the top and doesn't have the same feeling

I suppose you could play that way in Gekokujo mod for Mount and Blade: Warband
Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan and Ishin
oh that too, no PC port sadly and my 360 is fucked
the first 'way of the samurai' on ps2
>western release never ever
I fucking hate you Sega
did those ever get english sub releases?
forgot about that mod, hopefully it lets me play that way.
>English sub release
No, but there are guides well made enough to play the game online.
damn that's pretty frustrating, no dice if I can't understand the story without reading up on guides
though i guess i could watch this in between gameplay segments
Skyrim
Onimusha 2
What movie is that from? It's so well choreographed because it doesn't look choreographed at all
Yojimbo, an Akira Kurosawa masterpiece go watch it.
Yojimbo
Nioh but it's not out until February 6th next year
>He hasn't seen Yojimbo
Thanks. I know what I'm watching tonight
Shiren the Wanderer.... Maybe.
It's a mystery dungeon game.
Shin Megami Tensei IV
Samurai game choice list:
Corny shit with mystical powers and mythical creatures
Boring shit with estate management
If you wanna be a ronin on the open road, forget about it.
Hey it could be a kid on his early 18, at least he is interested in good stuff
nioh
>Boring shit with estate management
what game is that?@
great movie. isn't this the sequel to another kurosawa masterpiece ?
not sure, there is however a sequel to it called Zatoichi meets Yojimbo or something like that.
Sanjuro kinda is a sequel to Yojimbo but Yojimbo itself isn't a sequel to any film. Of course, Kurosawa has made a number of samurai films starring Toshiro Mifune
watch 7 samurai as well
better than the remake about cowboys
actually, seems Sanjuro is the prequel to Yojimbo, and in Zatoichi meets Yojimbo, Toshiro isn't playing the same character.
yes that's what I was thinking of thanks
Nah the sequel is Sanjuro and the plot is about the nine young Samurais trying to go against the corrupt officials.
be wary, its a great movie but kurosawa's directing is a bit strange and jarring.
Go in without hard expectations of what this movie is going to be.
yes he had his own unique style to be sure.
I feel it adds to the experience
>but kurosawa's directing is a bit strange and jarring.
how so? seems pretty conventional compared to someone like Seijun Suzuki.
Might as well watch all Kurosawa films. Many of his best are samurai films (besides Yojimbo and Seven Samurai, Ran and Rashomon in particular are good in my opinion) but I think his best film is Ikiru and some other non-samurai film are great as well (such as High and Low, a police procedural film). Some aren't masterpieces but I don't think there's a bad apple among them.
agreed
what are some games I can be a tokyo drifter?
Use KHH for main story and this for sidequests. lparchive.org
It's full enough to use it as a translation to import in a game.
...
You guys ever seen 13 Assassins? Great samurai movie.
Nioh Is overrated
What's the name of that black and white japanese movie where a guy gets killed and they have to talk to his ghost to see who did it?
Gekokujo is exactly what I want to play after watching a Kurosawa jidaigeki. Enjoy:
Nah
...
Probably Rashomon
So where do u guys get your movies from now that kickassto and TPB are down? I'm dying to download tokyo drifter but not sure where to get it? Any help?
Probably not it, but Onibaba maybe?
ace attorney?
avistaz has open signup right now
as does cinemaz (for more obscure or older european flicks, Come and See is in great quality there)
it may have just ended though.
That was it! You're awesome, dude.
His pacing is just a little weird in yojimbo, and the end just kind of happened. Its been a while but I remember yojimbo being really strange in pacing, and build up.
kek
tried going to avistaz, it's invite only.
shame, you literally missed it by a day, it had open signup all last week.
should try to keep an eye on it, might have another one in a few months.
Hey I know I seeked out Akira's movies when I was 15
>not playing superior gekonewer as a wandering skeleton youkai
lowlife
Gekokujo
okay i'm definitely downloading this now
It's a good mod, but you are NOT going to be that good at it right off the bat.
yeah no doubt, does it have a much steeper difficulty curve than base warband?
no shields and higher speed
Sieges are amazing tho
Bowmen are going to rape your face.
Jade Empire kind of.
no its literally spam hataswadianmoto cavalry like the base game
is WOTS open world?
The only good one in my opinion.
absolutely not even close
noted
is my boy Tokugawa Ieyasu in it? or is it all fiction?
>Torrent sites are kill
>Now literally impossible to track down anything to watch/listen to/play that isn't pop crap.
Total War: shogun?
Management part is kinda boring, but the battles, especially the naval ones are pretty rad.
nevermind, seems to be in it
extratorrents
yeah until like everyone gangs up on you and you have to fight 8 different factions in one turn
use google to find DDL versions of whatever you want to watch if you don't mind shittier quality,
although for relatively popular stuff you should be able to find decent ones, at least in x265
use soulseekqt for music
What's this about Piratebay being down?
Play dark souls 1 or 3 and make a katana build.
Kind of, it's instanced areas on a map but you can go to each area in any order I think.
>he prefers Kurosawa's samurai films over Sword of Doom and Harakiri
Time to rev up those moonrunes!
And OP, there is tons of Samurai PS2 games, emulate them
Harakiri is a great film, although I must admit I haven't seen Sword of Doom. Anyway, Japanese cinema in general is good, both in terms of classic directors like Kurosawa and Ozu, as well as contemporary ones like Sion Sono.
Nigga they all good movies
WotS 2 made me realize why people love RPGs and that the japanese are brilliant game designers.
Sanjuro > Yojimbo
sword of doom is okay, harakiri is amazing though
kuro's samurai movies are much different than harakiri though
nioh
Do I get to do anything but combat in nioh?
coop, possibly pvp and explore
Mount & Blade Warband has a good mod called Gekokujo where you can be a wandering samurai, but it's more around having an army and becoming powerful rather than being an errant warrior.
theres samurai western for ps2
its made by the people that made way of the samurai
but be prepared for the mooks saying the same shit over and over again
>lookin good
Looks like a samurai souls
yeah basically.
Don't forget to watch Sanjuro as well. It's somewhat of a sequel following the same main character.
youtube.com
You'd be surprised how many movies are just like that on youtube.
Somewhat. It's like Demon's Souls and Ninja Gaiden together with some Onimusha and a bit of Diablo.
qbittorrent has a built in torrent search engine, it's really useful.
could also use bit che, emule (this one's a fucking cunt to figure out)
Holy shit that's some pleb taste.
Not even joking gta2. Be a hired sword and take down rival gangs.
Any good modern samurai films I should be on the look out for?
Twilight Seibei
13 Assassins
Onibaba wasn't like that at all.
>kino
don't say that
that movie is awesome, trailer sucks though
Mount & Blade with Gekukjujo
How modern is modern?
Hana
Rurouni Kenshin trilogy
The Hidden Blade
The Twilight Samurai
After the Rain
>Ok-ish
Unforgiven
The Admiral: Roaring Currents (though it's Korean, Japan are the enemies)
do you want drama or do you want action?
because fuck modern samurai shit other than 13 assassins
watch all lone wolf and cub and all zatoichi (all 27(?) movies)
>The Admiral: Roaring Currents
A film of Yi Sun-sin? Neat.
sword of doom was good dat nigga ended up in hell
13 assassins. Starts kinda slow though.
twilight samurai was nice to watch
felt all nice and warm even during the trying portions
I didn't like it that much, but the actual naval combat is pretty great.
I prefer mostly action. I've watched
13 samurai (loved it)
Hara Kiri Death of a Samurai (depressing as fuck, would not watch again for all the tea in China)
The Hidden blade wasn't bad but was pretty fucking boring up until the end.
>You will never see the two cancelled Sword of Doom sequels
Well, I guess I'll try to turn my brain off and just enjoy the spectacle of the battle, then.
so mad at that
Kagemusha and Throne of Blood are worth the time as well
heh that movie is super cool
what happened to jap movies?
here's another good one if you can find it
try not to let the main character's "aesthetics" distract you
also what's with his younger partner? nigga look like he a halfnhalf or sumthin
>what happened to jap movies?
Action genres got shitty all over the world, they still make plenty of great movies though.
You know how back in the eighties and nineties most games wore their influences on their sleeves and how you can trace lots of Street Fighter characters back to specific characters from manga and kung fu films?
Why did no one made any games inspired by Pinky Violence movies and why didn't any characters similar to Lady Snowblood ever show up in Samurai Shodown or Last Blade or something?
Intrigued by all these posts recommending the Twilight Samurai. How much action is in it? It's not too depressing is it? I had nightmares for weeks after Hara Kiri.
not much
it's more drama during the times of samurai and follows a poor and destitute samurai doing duties other than slashing down enemies of the daiyamo
It's a slow burning movie, more melancholic than depressing.
Takes place at more or less the end of the samurai era, when samurai were more bureaucrats than warriors.
Even the fight scene at the climax takes a few minutes for the two samurai to sit down and grouse before they start swinging.
That doesn't sound appealing at all. But I may give it a shot regardless.
A fist full of dollars
Also don't watch the sequels.
They're literally the same movie, director thinks he's some sort of auteur who can remake one movie three times to prove a point or something.
What show ?
>That doesn't sound appealing at all
Pleb.
I'll watch it but if it's boring as shit I'm blaming you.
>samurai western
That's a fun game. We're the only people on Cred Forums who played it though.
yea but all those westerns were pretty good "adaptions" and are different enough to warrant watching them
at least for me they arent ripoffs and i enjoyed them equally well
thoughts?
Yakuza 0 when it comes out in January in the west.
It's 80s and not 60s, but that's probably as close as it's ever going to get.
Other than that there's still that Golgo 13 NES game.
It's like a darker Sword of Doom. Pretty great.
this one's better
...
drink some booze lad, makes any movie better
>have surgery to give yourself ridiculous chipmunk cheeks in order to get more and better parts in movies
>it actually works
Fucking weird.
>get some sake
>put on a headband, wear a dessing gown and fasion some kind of sumo wrestler thong
>play way of the samurai 4
Its just so perfect.
But does the protag have a theme song that he sings and whistles throughout?
Let's be real here, only Tatsu is cool enough to sing his own theme song while casually fucking people up in the snow.
I dunno, maybe we could get a spinoff where Kenji sings Jpop
Wish the whistling version in the bar was on youtube but can't seem to find it
At least Kiryu got that one covered.
Are any of the yakuza games on PS4 store? I don't really want to buy a PS4 and a PS3 to play these games but they look fun as hell
>Kiryu doing anything but Kamurocho Lullaby
...
The Japanese PS4 store has Kiwami (Yakuza 1 remake), 0, and soon 6. The west only gets 0 for PS4 in January. No PS3 games on PS4 for now unless you subscribe to PSNow.
"Yojimbo", choregraphed by Yoshio Sugino of Katori Shinto-ryu.
The same guy choregraphed and trained actors in "Seven Samurai".
...
God, what the fuck is Sega doing? It can't cost that much to localize a game with no english dub and release digitally
this movie got me more hyped than every capeshit in the last 10 years
> that one where yojimbo met zatoichi
pure gold that one and i liked how both characters played off each other and interacted
I don't think any game has yet met the scope and ambitions of Sword of the Samurai, shit's got:
-Duels
-Land management
-Grand Strategy
-Politics
-Courtship and marriage
-MUH HONOR
rutracker
Sony had to pay for the localization of Yakuza 5 themselves or we wouldn't even have gotten that one.
Well at least we get 0, since that seems to be up there with 5 as one of the best in the series.
What are some games where I can be a Japanese assassin?
Tenchu
Killer Is Dead
It's funny because samurai didn't look like that at all.
...
this is post samurai dumb shit
what did they look like?
is this accurate?
>a Cred Forums thread where people give each other cool game and film recommendations
>not about trannies or ecelebs
why have the mods let this stay up for so long?
>It's funny because samurai didn't look like that at all.
Except not a single character in that scene is a samurai, moron. It's a ronin and a bunch of yakuza thugs around the meiji revolution era...
I watched Love Exposure and I thought it was shit, basically anime garbage in film form
Ronin were samurai you dingus.
It's what distinguished them from common bandits.
>Cred Forums has a better samurai movie thread than Cred Forums
Christ, just nuke that fucking board already. If someone had made this thread over there, it would get 8 replies and then die. I guess they'd rather discuss capeshit and cuck porn.
Also
Movies

Add Rashomon to the movies in this list brotha
>Ronin were samurai you dingus.
No you fucking idiot, they were not. Samurai was an administrative post, an occupation. Ronin was a man who lost that fucking post. They were vagabonds (literally, "ro" in the word "ronin" means "to wander (aimlessly)". In fact, the word "ronin" does not necessarily imply a samurai origin and was frequently used in the sense of "thug" or "a vagabond" to fucking begin with.
Since the original asinine point was made about the people in the shot not being dressed and styled as samurai, the point of the main character being literally a little more than a wandering hobo kinda fucking matters.
Samurai was a social class and ronin were still technically part of that class, even if they were scorned.
Looks like a poor man's Seven Samurai
MGS5 with Japanese dub. Akio Otsuka is GOAT.
How shameful. I can't believe I forgot that one.
No, they were not. Plain and fucking simple. They lost all the privileges, rights, all the attributes of the class upon losing their masters. They STOPPED being samurai. There is no "technically" here: there was no aspect - technical or pragmatic - that still tied them to the samurai class.
you are fucking stupid, everyone has already seen yojimbo and the sergio leone westerns on tv, that's why it isn't discussed you pleb
This thread has been the first time I've ever even heard of Yojimbo.
Please, don't try to pretend like the average 15 year old on tv has seen any of these fucking movies. Maybe 6 years ago when Cred Forums was still somewhat tolerable, you'd have a point. Neo Cred Forums doesn't watch anything that doesn't involve super heroes or blacks on blondes.
then you need to correct your life
because you're 16
That says more about you.
And yet they were still "ronin" and not "peasants" or "bandits"
Meaning they were still held slightly above the common rabble.
is this real
why wouldn't it be
No. They really weren't.
all by me
I see my (you) in there so it wasn't
Actually, yes.
are you butthurt or something?
>Yojimbo
>Kojimbo
KOJIMAAAAAA
>And yet they were still "ronin" and not "peasants" or "bandits"
Actually, no. First of all, as we established, not all ronin were originally samurai. Second of all, Ronin were RONIN, NOT SAMURAI. They were considered classless, actually prohibited from picking up any trade or occupation. They were actually viewed lower than most rabble, because on top of being literally rabble, they were also traitors.
Their only advantage was that they were expected to be trained well, which made them relatively desirable objects of hiring for crime lords and persons of disputable honor.
Why do you think people call him Kojimbo you turboretard?
Please, please no need to fight; you're both disgusting weebs
...
You have to be open to it. If you think really highly of yourself then you probably won't get much out of Sono's films.
no 13 assassins?
good list, seen most of these
youtube.com
this album is about learning from the ways of the samurai and the internal conflicts created when trying to apply them to our modern society. Cool if you're into it.
This is garbage.
