UPCOMING GAMES
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past - 3DS - September 16, 2016
Dragon Quest Builders - PS4, Vita - October 11, 2016
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King - 3DS - TBA 2017

>What game should i start with?
3, 5 or 8
>What are the best versions of each game?
I - SNES with fan translation
II - SNES with fan translation
III - SNES with fan translation or GBC (SNES is better overall, GBC has a couple more extras.)
IV - DS or Mobile (Mobile version has Party Chat restored, is otherwise identical to DS version.)
V - DS or PS2 with fan translation (DS has an additional waifu to marry, PS2 has better graphics.)
VI - DS
VII - PS1 (3DS version coming September 16th 2016)
VIII - PS2 (Mobile version is gutted, 3DS version is coming sometime in 2017)
IX - DS (Needs to be hacked to get locked content)
X - On pretty much everything (no plans yet for a western release)
XI - PS4, 3DS and NX (coming sometime in 2017, no plans for western release yet)

I've never played a Dragon Quest game before, should I get this or wait for VIII? Which is better?

Stop making fucking /vg/ threads on Cred Forums you god damn retard.

was just gonna make this thread.

started playing vii just a few days back. got to the volcano island.

is there any point to grinding? i just got done playing disgaea, so i'm not opposed to the idea

Amazon prime never again

Not until you unlock vocations about 20 hours in.

Piracy

there are jobs? oooooh shit nigger hell yes

This sounds dumb but do i have to use my fists to gain experience for the martial artist class and to use the skills?

Nope. As far as I can tell what stuff you can equip is based on the character. I was using swords when I was a martial artist with the Hero.

Dragon Quest VIII is my favorite game. But all the DQ games are not only worth playing, but good. And this remake for VII has improved literally everything. Might as well get DQVII first.

>DQVII is selling out on Amazon
That's a good sign, though it sucks for you guys.

I can confirm for anyone with a CFW N3DS that Clock+L2 makes the game run way fucking better. Even the menus are smoother.

>the girl just got bang
>she's fast as hell
is there a way to keep it this way so she just insta kills all mobs? this is dope af

Make her a mage later on to gain more skills (like boom), then turn her into a martial artist for max agility. Then turn her into a sage with high agility.

it won't last forever but it's a great spell.

If you make her become a mage later she'll get Boom and then you'll really be able to destroy enemies since it does 50+ damage to all enemies.

Alright /dqg/, DQVII is the only DQ game I've played with the exception of Dragon Warrior on Gameboy.
It's pretty good.

>the girl

"How rude! Have a name you know!"

If you like 7 than you'll probably like 8 and 9

I forget but don't you get a permanent boost whenever you master a vocation, like the Warriors increased HP and Strength?

Jesus, first time I'm stuck.
"Clock island" spoilers
What am i supposed to do inside the clock painting? ive gotten to an area inside which is formed like a clock.

Confused me too man. At first I thought it meant I had to go back through the dungeon through the same path I went it. But nope just start at the top and go counter clockwise.

What the fuck.
I swear to god i already tried that.
Why didn't it work the first time? Anyways, thanks user.

>mfw every time a cannibox/urnexpected/etc. launches a regular attack
It's never not terrifying.

Yeah, I got burned when I ordered Xenoblade Chronicles X with """"day 1"""" shipping. Now I only preorder at brick and mortar stores.

Maybe you do have to go through the dungeon backwards first because I could have sworn I tried that first too but it didn't work so I went through the dungeon backwards. That didn't work so I tried going around the clock counterclockwise and it worked.

>Groups of enemies who are all the same kind of monster but aren't actually grouped together so your skills that hit a group of enemies don't do anything.

That's a DQ staple.
If there's three or more I'll usually just toss a snooze/dazzle at them and work on the lone enemy first.

>fuck this
>try to flee
>monsters blocks your way 5 times

Kinda want to give these games a go because of how much Cred Forums raves about them.
But all the gameplay videos I see it just looks so generic, like the kind of fake game they'd make in a TV show or something.
By generic I don't mean bad in any way, just that it seems super comfortable with its conventions.

Is the appeal of this series that it's always the same good ol' gaming experience as you know and love it?

Yes

mother of shit

pic related has been the worst boss so fucking far

moveset:
>regular attack 20hp
>bounce so can't cast offensive spells
>fizzle, can't cast any fucking spells
>frizzle, 50 HP single target
>kasnooze, guaranteed sleep status on atleast half my fucking party
>kaswoosh, 70 HP multi target
>TWO FUCKING ATTACKS PER TURNS, WITH HIGH AGILITY TO BOOT

>tfw never played dragon quest
Is it simple for beginners or is it one of those obtuse as fuck to new player games like SMT 1 and 2?

can I start with the original? I like to start long running series' from the start if possible

>Is the appeal of this series that it's always the same good ol' gaming experience as you know and love it?
Pretty much, well that and the accents

>Is the appeal of this series that it's always the same good ol' gaming experience as you know and love it?
That's the whole idea yes.

Its slow to start. I've played it every day since I got it friday and I JUST got to the first island.

>That's a DQ staple.
Yeah but it doesn't make it any less fucking dumb. There's no reason for it to happen.

You have to be 18+ to post here

>But all the gameplay videos I see it just looks so generic, like the kind of fake game they'd make in a TV show or something.

That's the point

I am having very fun with the game. Unfortunately I can't stay here because spoilers kill me. But the game is great.

Yeah its super simple. I'd start with 4 and work up personally. But you can start wherever. If you're going to play the first 3 try and play them in order because they do link together in story

Dragon Quest is both the 'simplified' version of JRPGs while also having a lot of extra options. Its mostly how much effort the player wants to put into learning the system.

This can be seen in how the Dragon Quest VII remake has been made a lot simpler than the original PS1 game. But people are still having trouble with it. probably because they're not using skills or not updating their gear.

You should moderate your expectations. Going into Dragon Quest expecting a sublime experience isn't going to end well, I think. I didn't know much at all about the series except that some people liked it and Japan loved it when I played them. Just play them and enjoy them for what they are: old school JRPGs with an emphasis in exploration. The combat isn't mindblowing, but it basically started JRPGs as we know them and has chosen to refine, not to innovate.

Actually can anyone help me. I have to get Caraway medicine and can't seem to figure out where the fuck to go. I feel so retarded sometimes. The herb garden man tells me to talk to the guy in the bar but he doesn't do aynthing for me

>Is it simple for beginners or is it one of those obtuse as fuck to new player games like SMT 1 and 2?

What's so obtuse about them? I just played them as my first SMTs a few months ago and didn't really have any problems. But yeah, DQ is a lot simpler than SMT.

You have to go back to the past and talk to the fortune teller woman at the volcano town

Pretty much.
Once you've played one DQ, you can comfortably jump into any of them with your feet on the ground since they don't tend to shake up the core formula a great deal.
Sequels add all sorts of neat things to keep it fresh, like monster taming, job systems, alchemy, etc.

Think back to the places you've been.
Is there anywhere, or any-

actually user's i just figured it out on my own

It's the opposite, this game literally invented every JRPG convention, good or bad. The idea of the series is to only tweak some gameplay concepts so it never really changes from the tried and true stuff of a previous game.

I've just started the Robot Island, is it worth leveling and getting new skills at this point or should I just power through to the inevitable vocation area?

Are my skills reset? Level reset?

>Took 3 hours to get to the first island
I'm always sad at people's main complaint is how long the game is and how slow the opening is. But honestly everything just works. World building in the starting island is some of the best in any game. You are meant to actually feel you are in a world that has no problems. And go about their day. Where the rambunctious prince is the only thing that they have to complain about. You are meant to feel calm. Then when the first island opens you are not meant to feel relief but shock at how different a world with monsters and problems is. God damn DQ7 is my favorite DQ game and one of the best RPG ever made.

It took you 3 hours? Are you retarded?

I like DQ because although there's a large overarching plot, for the most part every area has its own little self contained story that you can play through in a few hours.

yeah its cocksleave lol

I mainly meant how the law/chaos thing worked with your demons and how you could tka e alaw story path and get fucked over by killing to many law demons/using to many chaos ones. And the game having tons of dangerous areas and not really telling you where to go after the first 2 hours
I stil have nightmares about the neutral routes last dungeon.

>Scarewell just wanted to be taken care of! Lead him to Monster Meadows?

cool I guess, wonder what the chances of that are considering you barely encounter them unless you autistically check every well

The opening on the 3DS version is like 45 minutes.

If that. I'm pretty sure I got to the first village on the first island in 45 minutes, without even rushing.

>finally unlock classes
>party is already level 19, halfway to 20

Can I use something else like the woebergines when I'm too high for the slime tablet

>not autistically checking every well
do you even play dragon quest?

Did the sizzling stone quest and talked to every NPC multiple times and also party chat. DQ is honestly the one series that I feel totally calm and happy to take my time.

How did you get that high? My party is at 15 at that point.

Are there really people who play DQ without autistically checking every well, pot, and barrel

Do you not want to be a high level? Iv'e been grinding a lot and don't have classes yet. Just finished robot island and i'm level 17 17 17 and ruff is 14

>Rebellion in the Coliseum
>GahHAHAHA you humans are pathetic and inferior. Beg for mercy and we will let you live as cattle
>Monster just wanted to be taken care of. Lead him to Monster Meadows?
That was weird as fuck.

Maybe if it's their first game and they don't know any better

Holy shit, that's overkill.

I grind for gold to afford every piece of equipment at every new town and never run from any battles

>grind for gold

I would never have the patience to do that.

Everyone said that DQ is about grinding so i got my grind on early. Is it going to hurt me when i get classes?

Monsters can be introvert too, you know.

You won't be able to grind on the slimes if you get past level 20.

I'm still 16 and I'm already halfway through the desert island. Done a little grinding to get buff on the slime dungeon.

>Everyone said that DQ is about grinding
Then those people are retarded.

>Zev: BUT WHAT ABOUT MUH SISTER
>Party just walks out of the arena

This is the only game you don't want to do early grinding in. It won't hurt you in literally any other game in the series or after you unlock classes.

I'll just play threw the story and try to fight less monsters for a little bit then. Hopefully it can balance out. thanks anons

Does VII have holy water or an equivalent to make monster spawn rates calm the fuck down, and if so, where can I buy it

Don't forget every closet and bookshelf.

>buying every piece of equipment at new towns

>not alternating who you buy gear for each town by weighing the gold spent against the stat increase

Item stores generally carry it

For future reference you should never "have" to grind in DQ if you play smart, money is more of a problem than levels ever will be.

I'll keep that in mind when 8 comes out.

I haven't grinded once and I try to run around random encounters if possible and I only died once so far to the group of bandits outside alltrades abbey

>not grinding for an hour to save up 3000 gold for that one extra point of defense

>get a critical and defeat a monster
>it gets a different defeat animation and is usually sent flying much farther away as a result

So satisfying

Always buy new weapons
Armor depends on how much of a boost it actually gives

In games with alchemy though buy EVERYTHING

Would say look up a guild on doing skills just to help you out but they rebalanced and skills from the PS2 version. So can't really do that.
>No more twin dragon lash
I mean yeah it was stupidly broken but sad they took that away.

>find same or better item in a chest in next dungeon
>nobody else can equip it so you just wasted X gold
:^)
And that is why I started alternating purchases.

>always buy new weapons
Not necessary.
If it's only a 2-3 point attack increase there's no point. Wait until the next shop where it'll be a 5-7 attack increase.

If they don't rebalance the first boss then you might actually have to grind a little for that, ironically.
Geyser is serious shit from what I remember.

I'm loving it so far. The only other DQ I played so far is IX, which was alright. I like how all my party members have personality here, Kiefer's pretty cool, and Maribel's funny even if she's a bitch at times.

When do I get classes, though? I'm up to the point where the wolf-boy joined my party and is able to talk now. Can I make myself a priest? My character seems to have a lot of healing moves, so I'd assume that would be a better class for him.

>Geyser is serious shit from what I remember.
The issue is that it's the first fight with Curse. So for half of the fight you only have Hero to really use which you might not be up for yet.

First time DQ player here. I'm just curious but can i fuck my classes for my characters or can i build them however i want?

He's pretty easy unless you've never played a DQ game before and don't know how to heal.

You can build them however you want. But you need to have a character learn certain classes to unlock new classes. You can't just make a character a mage and then expect to become a sage next.

There were a few shitty dead end classes in the original but I dunno how they're like now. Does anyone know if they made Sailor better?

So, did they not release an official guide for this game? I don't see any in stores. I don't really need the guide aside from maybe looking up classes, but I like to buy one for each DQ game just for collection sake.

They're gonna look pretty stupid not having a guide for this game when it selling so well when even Dragon Quest VI and Joker 2 had a guide.

Rank 8 gives you a lightning ability that's 0mp and somewhere between bang and boom strength which is okay.

Its boring as fuck.

I picked up a guide at my gamestop

At least people are actually talking about video games.

>Finish the Alltrades Abbey quest
>Want to go back to Pilgrim's Perdition to pick up that fragment in the bank
>Go all the way back through the long ass tunnel dungeon and the cave leading to it
>Get the fragment, go back through them both again
>Running from every battle to avoid getting any more exp before grinding my vocations on Slimes
>Finally get through and leave the Abbey
>Notice the other entrance to Pilgrim's Perdition was opened now and I did not need to go back through either of those dungeons at all

Fucking kill me

My only complaint would be the lack of party interaction. And I'm not talking about party chat, that's fine. Just the characters interacting with each other. This only rarely happens in cutscenes as most of the time NPCs talk to Hero directly.
It was the same with DQ8, the only other DQ I played. Some great scenes, but hardly any interactions in between those scenes.

I fucking love the game though.

Is this game selling well? I pre-ordered my copy and I don't see any other copies at any stores. Is this gonna be another case where SE understocks the game, it sells all it's stock and then they claim it still didn't sell enough to justify other games?

Am I mean to just leave and start another island after Carraway runs off after arguing with Lavender after the rain spoils the feast?

I mean, it feels like that ended kinda abruptly? Is that it for this place?

Genuine spoilers above so be careful. It's before alltrades abbey.

How rare is yggdrasil leaf?

I just saved the loli high priestess from the dungeon but maribel died in the process. I'm about to escort her back to the surface.

Should I revive maribel using the yggdrasil leaf or should I save it for later?

well, you weren't the only one to do that..

I'm on regenstein right now. Where the fuck is this base this kid is talking about? I've scoured every inch of the fucking place but I can't find shit. Great game tho

This.

Ide rather take the time to go get it then wait another week.

What's kind of nice is that even if that does end up happening, digital sales are a thing now, so people can still buy it directly even if physical copies run out

Yes. For now

Hey user i'm looking for Caraway right now because he ran off before the feast. I can't find him care to help an user out?

Is VII really as long as people say?

Played about 20 hours and I feel like I'm racing through in terms of completing islands. Haven't reached the job place yet but even so how many more islands/fragments can there be left?

Where do you guys live, out of curiosity? I've preordered tons of games with Amazon Prime over the last couple years and not once have any of them been even a day late

me too

>Amazon
>Ever
You should have known

Top left of the village near the tree stump with the four seats around it. Most of the story driving points are there for this place I've found.

You can pretty much see how far you are by looking at how many pedestals there are.

When do I get new party members? SPOILER: I've just lost Kiefer and I want my cool old guy and amazon woman, and most of all I don't wanna be stuck in a 3-person party for long.

That's the point I'm making, it doesn't look like there is much left, maybe just over half after 20 hours?

Seems to debunk the idea that people say this is a 200 hour game.

It's going to be a while

Weird. Guess I have to lower myself to go to Gamestop.

I've heard that completing the islands is about half the game, but don't take it from me.

when do i get classes
i'm level 11 and i don't want to fuck up

it's near the reminder thing he scribbled on the left side of the village. a few paces above the lone tree is where the stairs are.

>how rare is Yggdrasil Leaf
Extremely rare.
You better have a good fucking reason to use them when you do.
Same goes for MP restoratives.

>tfw always too scared to use them in case I come across an inn or whatever in the next minute

Ah fuck. At least jobs are finally on the horizon.

Miami here. It used to be fine, but i don't know what happened that caused these delays.

After realizing in like three different games that I was so miserly with these things that I ended up beating the game without ever using them, I kind of stopped giving a fuck

Not him but I'm in the UK and stopped using Amazon ever since they switched from using Royal Mail to Amazon logistics or whatever they called it..
The site I order from generally gets everything to me a day before release rather than a day or 2 after.

I DID THE SAME THING SENPAI FUCK

I just unlocked the vocation thing.

What should I change for each member?

I kinda want to make maribel mage but I have no idea for the other 2.

lvl all 7 base in slime dungeon.

Some of the islands are much longer than others and there is stuff after you've completed all of the tablets.
Original game is maybe 100 hours anyway, not 200.

You'll get a full rez spell later on so you don't need to hoard them like a madman. Best to save it for a boss battle. There's no encounters on the way out of there either.

>then the poison hasn't kicked in yet

That sound cue almost game me a fucking heart attack.

Ditto.
I was sitting there waiting for it when she said she'd cooked the food herself.

The cursed item jingle is scary as hell for some reason

dropped/10

i keep giving this meme series a try and end up disappointed every single time. 8 is the only one i haven't played yet but even if i end up liking it the rest of the games will still be shit. the first one was fine tho.

>they're all shit except the first one and maybe 8
I'm not even mad.
I'm just baffled at how bizarre your opinions are.

don't forget

>damaged case ESPECIALLY if it's a CE

Amazon has sucked since 2012

I'm curious how the class system will work out without me spending half a dozen hours grinding on slimes, like a lot of people seem to be doing.

Whats the max level I can be before job grinding on slimes doesn't work?

It's weird but Geyser is one of the few "gimmick" bosses in DQ. Normally most DQ bosses are just "debuff them buff yourself and hope for the best" while Geyser has a pattern that early part of the game can easily fuck you over. Also there's that quest for the cheese you should really do. Both for the EXP and also cheese at that early part is pretty helpful.

20, I've heard.
I'm actually avoiding a lot of monsters right now so I can grind jobs once they're available. None of the bosses have given me any trouble yet so I think I'll be fine.

>they got rid of the repeating 'how to play slots' message so slots are faster
>I was able to get the 8,000 tokens I needed in 20 minutes

My party was level 16-17 when I cleared Alltrades Abbey and I just fought whatever I ran into the whole way through the game so far

I'm just gonna move on instead of stopping to grind right now though

Been a while since I played DQ8 but don't remember him giving me much trouble. Think you basically psyche up Yangus and heal whenever necessary with Hero.

Easier to just mash attack on Yanngus since otherwise he just keeps on getting cursed, but yeah as long as Hero has Heal and Yangus has a few herbs you should be fine.

Nintendo is handling stocks not SE. And they tend to stock up a good bit. Amazon seem to be out right now which seem like a good sign to me.

The opposite would be better, since Hero is immune to curse.
I's say the whole point of that boss is actually to show you this for a story point of view.

Nearly all bosses have some kind of trick to beating them easier. Geyser actually has 3 different ways to beat him. Abuse tension, make one character a designated healer or stagger heals and attack on both characters.

Fucking finally I got the Thief's Key
Good thing I've been writing down everything that's been locked so far, no way I'd remember 20 hours worth of shit

>chest(s) behind shopkeep is(are) locked
Every time.
It pains me to leave an unopened chest in an accessible location.

Are you that subhuman Hawaiian?

pls share

>order from prime
>get 20% off
>get a few other discounts for other reasons and free 5 dollar gift cards for some reason, along with price match giving me money off for weird reasons because if the price dropped for 5 seconds because a computer error, i get locked in
>usually get games for as much as HALF OFF, like with DQ7 which cost me 20 bucks
I can wait a couple days for those prices.

I haven't gone back to check if the Thief's Key opens ALL of these just yet, but so far

LOCKED CHESTS/DOORS
>Pilchard Bay
>Estard (tunnel door?)
>Estard Castle
>Greenthumb
>Road to the Convent (Wilted Heart)
>Roamer Camp
>Pilgrim's Rest
>Pilgrim's Perdition (Story event?)
>Alltrades Abbey (Basement, Past)

OTHER SHIT
>Dig Site (Present)

...

Bianca just gave birth to two perfect aryan kids.

When i finish i will probably get DQVII.

Still can't find DQVI DS for a non-retarded price.

>Nintendo
>And they tend to stock up a good bit
Yeah, like all those amiibos, small new 3DSs, PokeGo Pluses and games that aren't MUHRIO or Zelda.

i've literally never had this problem unless i preorder a day or two before release, don't be a lazy shit

The other thing is that Nintendo actually does reprints, they did a separate run of Bayo 1 since there was a lot of demand from people who wanted physical copies but didn't get the first print of Bayo 2 that came with the first game.

Is there a class chart for the remake floating around anywhere?

Not sure if this goes in this thread, but the musou game is like on super sale on amazon. Is it any good?

Those are merch which Nintendo has always been bad at.
>Pokemon Pluses
What? Those are fucking everything in good supply. Also that's not Nintendo. It's The Pokemon Company which does things themselves.

It's decent once you get through all the DEFEND THE YGGDRASIL ROOT missions that take up the first half of the game

Are you one of the few people who have actually played Mystic Heroes? It's basically that with a Dragon Quest skin, more than it is a straight up musou.

It's simple but fun, and it's nice to see the DQ world in fine HD. I would only recommend it if you're a fan of the series interested in seeing returning characters though.

All DQ games are welcome in my book. And it doesn't play exactly like a musou game. It's more Tower Defense. That being said it's still an enjoyable game. But like with most musou games it only really enjoyable if you played the other games and every the characters. Like if you never played DQ4 or 8 why would you care about playing as Alena or Yangus?

MFW got for 20 % and day one and had game 2 days earlier thanks to frenchie.

I haven't seen any standalone physical copies of Bayo 1 for WiiU

When Nintendo released Dragon Quest VI, it had almost twice the stock than Dragon Quest IV and V had (which SquareEnix released), despite being the game less people wanted. Stores still had new copies 2 years after it launched.

If Dragon Quest VII got a similar sized release and has already sold out, this is a damn good sign. Even if DQVII got a smaller release, Nintendo will print more seeing its demand. This game could sell well over 500k. Possibly even a million if the hype continues to grow.

The Alltrades Abbey basement doors open after you kick the monsters out, you don't need keys for them

My 3DS is running an old version of RXTools and menuhax (I think) to cold boot into the CFW. Emunand is on 10.3 and sysnand is 9.0 or 9.2, can't remember. Can anyone link me to a thread that will tell me how to change CFW and possibly boot managers safely?

I've honestly never even used it for anything, so I haven't kept up with the scene

In my opinion they really nailed the charm and atmosphere of the series too, and the dub voicework was really well done and reminded me a lot of DQVIII, I even enjoyed the original characters a lot

Thanks for info. I love Dragon Quest so I might pick it up. Interesting to hear it isn't like a true musou.

I suppose, I'm just salty I can't get a Ness or Rosalina.
>Rosalina is released during the Amiibo rush
>Target exclusive
>Target is on the cusp of dying in Canada
>Never got to go to one, lived in a small town
>Target dies
>Rosalinas rumored to now go to Walmart in Canada
>Small town doesn't have a walmart either
>Walmart next town over didn't even get her
>Mariotehplumber is canadian
>Restocks never

>Huge MOTHER fan
>Gonna pre-order Ness off EB games to make sure I get'em
>Amerifats bumrush the website to get theirs even though EB is canada exclusive
>Website is a fucking slog and doesn't work
>End up not being able to get my Ness
>Restocks never

Yeah I just got those, I was just marking down every locked door I found up until I finished the abbey

How can that be true, DQIV & V are around 50$ on amazon while DQVI is 90$

Stop bullshitting cuck.

So what are the chances we get monsters joker 3 pro?

t-they held off localizing three for this version r-right?

>writing down locked chests as you come to them

That's smart, why didn't I think of that?

Best we can do is just hope to keep the word out. Helps that SE seem to actually be willing to talk about Dragon Quest now. With Horii showing off Heroes and Fujimoto with DQ7. Helps how DQ7 was localized because of fan demand. So they feel like trying to outreach to fans.

Just to tell you, selling low amount of toys to create artificial demand is pretty standard. They even do it when selling Star Wars figures. They'll have a billion Luke Skywalkers, but only a few Han Solo. This drives up hype for one character while selling more of other characters.

It works the same for Nintendo amiibos. People can't find the Ness or Isabelle they want so they buy a Yoshi or a Luigi.

It's an old habit of mine, writing down shit you're blatantly going to need to come back to later

I agree that is strange, but he's not lying. I had a hard time finding DQ5 myself but I often saw copies of 6 on store shelves 2 years ago. It was almost taunting.

Amazon says its selling for $30 or less. Where do you live? Brazil or something?

>A billion luke skywalkers
I wish, it's Finns and Zuvios (a literally who who wasn't even in the movie) everywhere.

Squeenix actually did a reprint of DQIV and V way way later, without advertising it. I thought they were only selling it from their own site though, not Amazon.

I play my game outside mostly. So it's hard to write things down while playing.

>mfw bringing Carraway to you know where

reminder that DQ8 is confirmed to also be stripping out the orchstrations and will be using midi for the localized version

>game appears to have 4 party slots
>all media indicates you'll eventually have 5 characters journeying with you
People later on, please tell me it ain't how it seems and you'll be able to use everyone in combat.
I don't wanna waste anymore seeds.

If max party size is 4, then I might drop Ruff because I hate how much he stands out visually.

Cite sources or castrate yourself.

Don't bully Gabo

Well I just got done checking everything that has been locked so far, here's what I've got

THIEF'S KEY
>Greenthumb
>Road to the Convent (Wilted Heart)
>Pilgrim's Rest

MAGIC KEY?
>Pilchard Bay (Item Store)

UNLOCKS DUE TO STORY EVENTS
>Pilgrim's Perdition (Bank)
>Alltrades Abbey (Basement, Past)

OTHER SHIT
>Dig Site (Present)
>Estard (tunnel door)
>Estard Castle (Basement)

GONE?
>Roamer Camp (Two locked chests, camp is gone even if you try to come back)

>hating on the best character

>falling for the seeds meme

they were only useful in the first DQ ever since they don't make that much of a difference.

Those are cart only bro.

I will actually pirate that if this turns out to be true. I bought the PS2 game twice anyway. You can't fuck us over with something like that. It was made especially for the Western release.

the super seeds you get from the optional dungeons are handy. Seeds aren't useless, they're essentially a free 5th of a level up

Ruff is absolutely adorable and the best. How dare you.

I hope DQ8 3D has dual audio, not a dub hatin' chump, I just wanna hear DIOMAGUS.

just got to volcano island how close am i to getting jobs?

I don't hate the character, I just don't like how different he is from everyone else in appearance.
If he wasn't on that damn wolf all the time I'd probably keep him.

Fuck you

I wasn't aware you only counted brand new games. But it still doesn't change what I said before. The game released in 2011 and there were still new copies in stores years later. Which is why it never got a second printing. Now that its been 5+ years, its not a surprise the handful of new copies that are left are selling for more.

Who is this twitter memelord everyone keeps linking in these threads?

I agree. But also, while a few guys like Yangus are okay, the majority of the secondary characters and NPCs were horrible in the PS2 dub.

Honestly, I had to turn off the voices around Pickham just because of Trode and Medea. And despite having the voices off, it still became my favorite game of all time and Medea is my favorite DQ girl.

Brand new is over 100$.

Used complete is 80$.

Who the fucks buy cartdrige only? I would just emulate.

I want to fill my collection but i refuse to pay that much for the worst DQ.

Just a reviewer that have been posting a lot of DQ 7 before it came out. Since until it was released hardly anyone who was reviewing it really talked about it sadly.
One of the few sites that actually talk about Dragon Quest too.

Does anyone here have a save file from around the animal island segment? I'll even take a save file that's a little bit after it, if necessary. Ended up losing all my data. Really don't want to have to start all over again.

...

Too bad you filthy fucking pirate.
You deserved it.

I've never played DQ before. Is this one of those game series where playing the latest game would make it much harder play the older games cause each game is just much better?

Can I play the games in any order (Trilogies in order of course)?

People are grinding slime because they want to get advanced classes ASAP. It is not mandatory.

I thought that was pretty odd too.

Nah dragon quest doesn't change much at all. Yes to the last question.

It's the slowest DQ.
Play IV & V first.

I got the migrant from the robot island, he said the next one is a soldier in a village home to the ancestors of ancient heroes. I assume I haven't found that island yet? I just got done Alltrades Abbey.

is it the original voice acting or are they re-dubbing it?

...

I bought two Thief's Keys thinking they were going to be single use, I feel silly

What's the difference between seeds and super seeds?

It's actually got one of the best uses of narrative downtimes I've seen in a JRPG. It's pretty cool that the "natural-state" of islands is to be monster free.

Its the island to the southeast that appears after you finish Alltrades.

Oh nevermind, she was in the casino in Pigrim's Rest for some reason. That doesn't match the description at all really.

Does 7 have marriage?

Do mini medals do anythng or is it just something to collect?

I just got to 2nd town in robot island, the island after animal island. Do you want it?

Every game plays basically the same just with slight changes with each one (DQ1 was solo, DQ2 added part members, DQ3 added class system, DQ4 hands you characters that you can easily switch around, DQ5 has a monster catching system, DQ6 adds back the class system but a bit more complex than DQ3, DQ7 ups DQ6 to an insane degree, DQ8 has a skill point system, and DQ9 is back to class base system).

Story and pacing wise are each different. DQ1 and 2 has a bit but it's mostly about traveling to find the items to defeat the boss. DQ3 is about different towns having something different about them which adds a whole bunch of neat ideas with it. DQ4 is all about each character in your party having it's own story and reason to travel with you. DQ5 is a personal journey. DQ6 is about the real world and dream world and the subtlies each part gives. DQ7 is really about each island having it's own story, characters, and problems. It's the slowest and longest but outside of a few hitches it doesn't honestly feel long. As long as you can enjoy each area and really get into the emotional roller coaster it plays out its one of the best damn RPG around. As for DQ8 it's more about a single journey to get back a magical item to undo a curse. It's very single minded but you journey to so many places and towns that you really do start to love the world it brings.

Apparently you don't get access to the place to trade them in for a longass time. I just got done Alltrades Abbey and I haven't found it yet.

>Prince Kiefer leaves forever and his little sister gets super depressed because she loved her brother and he was also her only link to the outside world when he came home and told her stories

Why is he such a dick

Are Dragon Quest games good? Or are they basically all like old Final Fantasy games, i.e somewhat boring and unchallenging generic turn-based JRPGs? I think I only played 4 for DS many years ago, didn't get super far into the game, but it felt like a bland experience gameplay wise

You just answered your own question.

Yeah, he went from bro to enormous piece of shit real quick.

Basically DQ is like classic FF but grindier and with more soul

Thanks

Even the newer ones?

New FF games abandoned the classic turn based style, the old ones are rather archaic and simple in design. Do even newer DQ games have very little variety and depth in their gameplay?

Ruff is the best bro, that you could even think about dropping him is terrible.

>Ditches his dad, sister and childhood friends without a second thought

What the fuck Kiefer.

Ruff is the best character to keep in your party because you get him early and he never leaves for some dumb story reason.

Holy hell these fucking bandits near Alltrades
I beat em in one go but it took both my Yggdrasil leaves

No. DQ is the barebones of the RPG. Can't even be compared to FF with their innovative and great design.

Yes! Thank you! I can read up on the events in between so it shouldn't be a problem.

He has to fulfill his purpose. Something only he can do.

It's got a surprising amount of depth. You need to use buffs, debuffs, defense, well-timed healings and shit to not get wrecked. Or in true classic JRPG fashion, grind until you eliminate all the challenge it might offer.

It's also got a nice, complex job system that opens up 1/5 into the game.

>New FF games abandoned the classic turn based style
And when was the last good FF game? Turn base combat is fine. It's just how it does it. DQ tends to have enough layers to the combat that it doesn't feel bland to me. I feel people convince themselves that action games are the only way they should do RPG. And for the most part made the games for the worse and not for the better.

Liking it alot, second DQ game but first i might actually finish. Grinded 3 classes at slime tablet and beat the bandits with ease but the small bandit chief or whatever game me alittle trouble.

I might buy it if i end up beating it but rip buyfags. That midi shit is fucking trash

>now plowing beers and grinding classes while your speakers are hooked up to your 3ds to listen to the glorious orchestral ost at its best,

>Final Fantasy X has about as much depth in its combat as Dragon Quest II

Please don't start this shit.

I didn't know they had internet in roamer camps. Go strum your faggy little instrument some more and get cucked.

Plowing some sweet ancient pussy?

I mean come on he couldn't have taken his new waifu along for the ride? There's a dancer class for fuck's sake.

um idk about that. I played FF4 ds and dropped it. i had more fun with dq9 and now dq7.

I wanted to try ff9 but theres no handheld option and ios was 23 fucking dollars for it

Tactics-style is pretty much the only way a turn-based game can have depth

See if I save your ass in 60 years.

I disagree but I'm not going to get into it. Guess it's one of those "if you can't get into turn base JRPG than you might not enjoy DQ"

FFIV DS, Mother series.

mega.nz/#!7t8wiZhb!2UwIlkgSUUM6wF9ce-nsY7SmlFB9BLWmmdn0PVsTbjw

I extracted it with JKSM, so you might need it in order to import it (dunno if other save manager support JKSM's format).

I think you might want to read that post again.

Don't you final faggots have a game to wait on and argue about graphics/sausage parties?

Seriously get the fuck out of here.

VII 3DS is on its way to knock out V PS2 as the best DQ. What's your favorite DQ?

Depends on the game. Spamming attack in something like Etrian Odyssey is a good way to die. I definitely wouldn't call DQ "complex", though.

I'm enjoying DQ7, but a part of me feels if it weren't for Maribel I might have moved on to SMT IV Apocalypse by now. I need to get the fuck off Cred Forums and get back to playing the game.

Maribel doesn't leave the party like Kiefer, does she?

She does, but ends up coming back without a dlc

Fuck off again, Kiefer
I hope the local fauna pissed on your grave

>Here lies Kiefer. He never scored. Except with his perfect 10/10 dancer waifu that was to be betrothed to another man until his BEC won out.

Where the fuck is the fragment inside past alltrades abbey?

downstairs on some electric floor or whatever that's supposed to be

I think it's in one of the now-unlocked rooms in the basement

>dropping the best soundtrack of all time for some midi shit
well I'm out

Still V, but I think VII has usurped VIII as second

youtube.com/watch?v=iVqoEmzt3P8
It's what they had in the Japanese PS2 version, only the western release had the orchestra

If it bugs you that much I'm sure someone will make a patched CIA within like an hour of the game coming out.

which one is the one with the loli getting nude in front of the elder?

on it's own that's not that bad
but compared to the orchestrated version it sounds awful

I unlocked vocations at level 18. Am i overlevelled?

Also, can someone explain how do you grind vocations at the slims dungeon?

Is there a specific thing you need to do or just chose whatever vocation you want?

This is my frist DQ game so im kinda lost.

>That old dude in Alltrades Abbey that says he's going to become a bunny girl

I agree. Game needs cowbell.

A bit. Level cap for that area is like 19.

I wouldn't sweat it too much.

he actually does it
the absolute madman

>that inn to the north of present-day Greenthumb where the cave used to be that costs 240 coins per night and has nothing but a bit of plot exposition in the basement
What the actual fuck.

Seaside views cost money.

Besides it's so out of the way and has a bar, so they charge people for a little vacation to the country.

Why wouldn't you start with 1? It's the only one I've played mind you. It's short and easy as fuck

You get what you pay for. Enjoy your 12 gold per night room in some monster infested town.

>VI - DS
Isn't the general consensus that VI SNES is better?

Why?

Is there a patch out? I know there are patched Roms but that's not what I want. I have the game and yet to play it.

6 is certainly not better on SNES. There's no complete translation, and the one that has the most done has a menu bug that crashes the game through the whole game and never displays your current gold.

>"Alright, let's shuffle those cards!"

>had a lot of free over the summer
>nothing to play
>DQVII finally comes out
>absolutely love it
>barely have time to play it
Got it Friday with 18 hours in, not even at dhrama yet. I basically will only have weekends to play it, fuck. I don't get why it couldn't come out in the summer.

>Also, can someone explain how do you grind vocations at the slims dungeon?
Vocation doesn't level up from exp, but from how many battles you do.

What class is good for ruff?

Im thinking of making him a sheperd because the wolf looks really cute in the costume.

You can use any class on anyone, although Ruff might perform best in classes that use his strength and speed.

You'll blast through the early classes quickly so they don't matter that much. I had him as shepherd first but it's abilities are lacking and it had nothing worthwhile to carry over.

Its teaching you to go back to your house to sleep for free.

There's no hans/ntr patch because of the cia being so readily available. give it some time.

im lost guys.
just finished the island where you get classes in the past and present (got the flying carpet) but now im stuck. Im missing a yellow tablet, and when ask for advice he saids that the islands are two for one? one to the south west and one to the south east of the robot island but when i get to both islands in the present theres no indicator for a fragment.
Can someone help? am i suppose to go to the past? This is the kind of shit that makes me stop playing a jrpg but im having fun with this one

The orchestra soundtrack, Japan originally had a midi soundtrack. Though it would surprise me if the 3DS version retains the stuff that was censor for Japan because they wanted the series to retain a A rating, shit like this even happen with some Naruto games with Japan only getting a censored version.

Same here. I had 4 weeks when I couldn't do anything but play games. Then a week later, I have to do a ton of packing and moving, right when DQVII comes out.

in the future, use open the menu>info>next fragment

However, did you go back to the goldbank where she said she was holding on to one for a customer?

The only thing I can think of that the SNES version has over the DS version is the monster recruiting, but I don't really mind sacrificing that for all of the things DS did better

Is there a reason the download bar isn't working for me? I have a physical copy of the game, but my 3DS is installed with a CFW (Luma), and whenever I try to use it, says I need to update the system. But it is up to date (Luma anyways), do I need to wait for that to get another update? I can connect to the internet otherwise, I just can't use the Haven bar feature

yes i got the one in the bank that was being held for a customer next to the chest.
I checked next fragment and it says present day all trades

Unless you're really going to miss NTR, update the 3ds through system settings. homebrew launcher was fixed.

Did you go through the bandit storyline by visiting the area that town you got the goldbank fragment was?

Thanks. Hopefully it comes out soon.i'd like to enjoy the game with the orchestral soundtrack.

i found it, thanks for the next tablet suggestion user.
for anyone else that gets stuck remember to go to the temple where you change classes in preset day, and go one level down on the right (east) to get a yellow frag.

>Friend talks about how Kiefer is their favorite character and how they got most of the stat seeds
>hfw completing the tribe section

Spoilers about someone who goes away ahead.

So is Kiefer gone for good? Do I never get him back? That motherfucker was bro-tier, I actually started liking him more than Carver.

Correct. He's gone for good.

At least he'll have a slightly buffed kiefer when he beats the game

Fuck man, bros before hoes, doesn't he know that?

Pussy was too strong for him

It's max 4 characters in party.

Everything will be fine if you feed all the seeds to Kiefer. He's so good you don't need to worry about others.

I just wanna build my stuff up. You always seem to have a huge collection.

Fair enough,

when can I play it on an emulator?

Cool thanks man. You're a true bro

...

Asking here because it's the most active 3ds thread right now.

What should I get?
>N3DS XL with Lego Jurasic World and Lego Batman 3 for US$173
>o3DS XL with Pokémon Y, TLoZ A Link Between Worlds, SSB and One Piece Unlimited World Red Day1 for US$110.

Are the specs of the N3DS worth it?

No, get the old 3DS XL bundle. Those games and price are worth.

With luma you'll notice a modest performance increase in most games. It makes this game run only a little better though.

do you have a 3ds emulator on PC?
no.
buy a refurbished o3ds xl or refurbished regular o3ds and call it a day
n3ds if you have money

honestly do some homework on the firmware. get the one thats below 11.0 then softmod it

Having the menus actually respond at full speed is fucking worth it. I just swapped my shit from my old 3DS to a N3DS last night.

I owned both a 3DS XL and a N3DSXL. Save the $100 and just get a 3DS XL and not the New one. The New one only really helps initial game loading time and if you are really obsessed with Monster Hunter or Xenoblade. All other 3DS games don't use its features. The 3DS XL also has better placement of headphones/volume/carts.

does Ruff's adoptive wolf parent not have a name

It's funny how fast he levels from like 7 to 15 though. He caught up with the rest of my party while I was like level 12 when he joined at level 1.

>The New one only really helps initial game loading time
But that's wrong.

Most games released since after the N3DS release at the very least run better on the N3DS. And with CFW you can force all games to run better.

Like for real, DQ7 with Clock+L2 is like night and fucking day. No more slow ass menus or framerate drops at all.

>Strom fight
>all three gang up on Hero turn 1
>lose in four turns due to two crits

I wonder if there's any way to win it.

>tfw Providence
Holy shit fuck that island. The first part of the game I've encountered that was actively bad, what a waste of fucking time. Should've been gutted from the game.

I've managed to defeat his two henchman but i got KOd after that.

Dermot is a nice guy. Told him about what happened, said he believed in me.

Does Keifer leave his stuff when he takes off? He has some expensive crap and I'm at that island where he goes on poonquest

Apparently in the PS1 version all the fights you're supposed to lose are beatable, but the bosses have like 30k or more HP in those fight. Even if you cheat or grind your ass off to win the story proceeds as if you had lost.

yeah actually.

They give you a bag with all their shit in it.

He's right, after you overclock your N3DS cpu you definitely notice a difference. Note that you can only 'overclock' it by softmodding it.

Why do i have to do illegal shit to get my good boy games run good?

Fuck these lazy devs for not optimizing for better hardware.

Yes.

Modding your 3ds is far from illegal.

it still takes some extra steps to pirate even with a CFW.

>Maribel in her Martial Artist qipao

So i just install cfw and overclock, and that makes all my games, even the ones on cart to run better? Are there any bugs while if I overclock games that don't support it?

Yes basically. I haven't heard of any games where overclocking messed them up.

I haven't heard of any bugs

Yeah he does

I'm really fucking glad too because I got a lucky Iron Axe drop on the robot island and he had it equipped, you normally can't buy those until present Alltrades Abbey and it's much stronger than anything else you can get until then

Which DQ is considered to be the best? Is it 5 because you can fuck the best girl Debora?

Alright fantastic.

I'll see if I can get the cfw going then.

3,4,5,and 8 all have their communities.

>Which DQ is considered to be the best?
The one you think is the worst

How do you switch to more advanced class?

My party has mastered the first tier jobs but theres no option to upgrade them.

i'm pretty sure this cunt isn't sleeping

are you trying to fucking trick me papas

Dunno if anyone's gotten far enough yet for this one but what abour Maribel? She comes back but I don't remember how the game handled her gear.

>Maribel learns powerful spell that hits all enemies
>Tell her to make cautious attacks
>She wastes all her MP using that spell all the time
FUCK YOU BITCH
I gave you a fucking whip, use it, damn it

In the original all was lost.

Not so this time around.

Only pussies need to close their eyes to sleep

>Trusting the AI
>Ever

Nigga, don't tell people that. Maybe for boss fights, but the ai can teach you that even the seemingly useless skills are great in the right situations.

I can't tell you how many times the lick move and silly dance did something in their hands.

What's the best endgame class for maribel?

Is druid ok?

I still prefer doing things my way. If I need to disable a group of enemies I usually just try shit and see what works.

Still pissed at se for 4 and 5 as i never got those and reall wanted them. Never saw one in a single store until it was like $60+
6 was everywhere however

Is it possible to grind up until the Hero class right after you unlock vocations by grinding the slime tablet dungeon?

Or should I just grind the basic level and carry on with the story?

Really? I see them at wally world all the time

How do tablet dungeons work? Is it like those map things in that other DQ remake where I need to find someone with a good map or whatever to farm?

Dragon Quest V is being sold new on SquareEnix main website. Dragon Quest IV is probably going to be harder to find though. Used to be as common as DQVI, but its been 8 years since it came out. Any game short of a Madden or FF title will be rare.

>the automaton are all gone, why does my baby brother still hasn't come home?

>That sure is a nice detailed statue but where is everyone?

>worst dq
That's not 9 or 2 or 4.

When will we get Heroes 2?

finished the stone people town. now completed a green shard and ended up on a big island. how much longer till i get jobs?

Screw the casino. Screw the matching game. Screw shuffling

After SquareEnix is sure that the hype has passed and our will is broken. At that point when we no longer hope and have nothing but contempt, when the mere mention of a new DQ game will bring about feelings of anger and regret, that is when they will strike.

quite a few hours still
the fact that you don't get jobs right away makes you appreciate them more, but it takes kind of too long in DQVI and DQVII

You only get advanced classes by mastering multiple specific classes. For example Mage and Priest = Sage

Sometime next year

Koei Tecmo will probably make sure we get it sooner than later.

both are still on amazon for cheap. like $24 USD

VI and IX are getting pretty expensive for new copies, though.

-Saved game
-Spent 5,200 gold to buy 260 tickets.
-Tried the 1 token slots
-Kept playing until I gained positive tokens (about 800).
-Left casino and saved
-Came back and started playing 10 token slots
-Lost a few times and reloaded save until I got a positive gain.
-Kept reloading save and only saved when I got a positive score.
-Got lucky and hit 3 7's and 3 BARs, brought me up to 6,000 tokens.
-Saved and kept playing until I got over 10,000 tokens.
-Used 5,500 tokens on items and saved the other tokens for the next casino later in the game.

>How can that be true, DQIV & V are around 50$ on amazon
huh

I thought final fantasy fans liked dq games. At least some of them.
I mean i like both

I love FF9 so much , but I really got say FFIX for PC looks really nice too.

>even when cheating, a badly timed shuffle can screw everything over
>only way to get weapon prizes from the first casino
Fucking bullshit

well not technically it's on ps1 you're just emulating it on psp and vita but yeah the other guy is dumb since that is an option

Do you stop gaining job experience on the Slimes at level 20, or at level 21?

>Got a Warhammer and an Iron Axe on my first and only try on Shuffle
Step up fampai

I think 20 is the cut off.

Well fuck, what can I grind on now? It seems that the Woebergines and Kingfuschias have the same level 20 cap

I've already got mine but it was hellish getting at least one of each equipment available on the cards. I feel bad for people doing that shit legit

Yeah I believe you're pretty much done in that area.

I also want to know this, for future reference of course.

Am I doing something wrong I haven't dropped any monster hearts yet and I've maxed out tons of vocations.

and of course if it is translated.

Alltrades Abbey

>They wouldn't have TWO boss fights in a row that you're supposed to lose to right?
>Oh wait they totally would

Played like an hour of it. It was really annoying how slow the start it. People give TP shit for taking forever but atleast you get to ride around epona a bit and get a wodden sword.
So far I've only run back and forth talking to people and finally met Helga, I hope the game picks up from now on

Ok I mastered Warrior and Dancer but didn't learn Sword Dance. What did I do wrong?

there are no combined skills anymore

Might've been changed from the PS1 version
Either it's on a different class now or it's been removed

Lame, I made my hero a dancer for nothing then.

been giving all my non magic related stat ups to the MC. the magic ones to the girl. did i goof?

Any of those three downloadable dungeons have a high level cap for classes grinding.

>loli priestess

I got some questions about the streetpass content.
1. What does the gold monster face next to a tablet mean?
2. Did anyone else get the glitch item that looks like a red crosshair from opening a chest in one of those dungeon maps?

As long as you don't give any seeds to Kiefer you're fine

It can vary from person to person, but the average level seems to be around 16-17, or about 20 hours in.

I just saved the tree Ygg after 25 hours.

Can I get an estimate % wise as to how far in I am?

Damn son the card flipping game in the casino is op as hell.

I pretty much raised the attack and defense of everyone in my party by 50 after a lucky spin at the slots that gave me 1000 tokens

Its learned at the end of Pirate now. Hybrid skills are kill and all of them are redirected to regular skills now.

Speaking of casino save scumming, is there a soft reset or quick way to reload? my 3ds likes to corrupt my sd card randomly sometimes when I turn it on so i try to never turn it off so i dont have to redo all my cfw stuff

Not going to lie, that actually looks really nice at 1080.

Hit home button then close the game

3DS' biggest flaw hardware wise is its shitty screen resolution

Continuing the story prob works

Honestly even that's dangerous. It's a scary life

>I feel bad for people doing that shit legit

I don't think anybody has ever dont any rpg casino shit legit

so far I like the original vii more than the 3ds version

get a new sdcard?

Can anyone provide a link to what tier 1 classes are needed to unlock higher classes? And possibly a list of what spells/abilities you learn in each class if someone has made such a list.

Since there's no strategy guide or anything in the western release, I assume it would be based on the Japanese game. That's fine.

The menus are really laggy. And I'm on New 3DS.

Normally I would direct someone to woodus but that nigga's slackin.

Pokemon looks stellar in HD, and Mario Kart looks alright, but Bravely Default looks pretty bad because I think it was made with the shitty resolution in mind.

i have fuck-all knowledge of dragon quest. I did buy DQ 7 though. Am i gonna have a good time or did i shaft myself by jumping in with both feet

Just play it and find out for yourself. After the first couple hours, you'll probably know.

Fair enough. Is it considered one of the better DQ games or is it considered one of the more underwhelming entries?

Do you guys draw on the DW7 miiverse community?

Nobody uses Miiverse

I'd put it in the upper half but really there are no bad DQ games

I'd rank them something like this:
V > VIII > VII > III > VI > IV > IX > I > II

It was my first Dragon Quest and my second RPG. I couldn't finish it though.
Last thing I remember was Kiefer had left the party and it was just the three of us in some fucked up village. We climbed a tower and there was some black/purple dragon that beat me every time.
I gave up there. I was new to RPGs and class systems and all that and was really unprepared. But I enjoyed what I played. I beat Dragon Quest 1 on GBC about 9 years ago. Really need to get back into it.

What's the name of the summoner class now?

The only underwhelming DQ games (based on the general publics views) are II and VI. I think all the DQ games are good. DQVII wasn't my favorite, but this 3DS remake has improved it in every way and its quickly rising up my list.

>but there really are no bad DQ games
2 is pretty fucking bad with all the tile-hunting.

>advanced class skills are now exclusive to the advanced class

Wew, Time for everyone to be godhands for Ultrahit

There's a NPC at the desk on the left of the first floor of Alltrades that tells you

Thanks.

The remakes help fix that a bit but it's still the weakest game in the series easily

2 can be frustrating but overall I wouldn't really call it bad

And I'm saying this as someone who played it on the GBA ages ago and never finished it, and only went back to finish it last year.

Still the worst out of the main numbered games but I'd say it's worth playing still.

I don't know what people have against VI, I've always really liked it, it had pretty much everything I want in a DQ game

>Sidoh/Malroth is so shitty Monsters had to give it a second form

Never played the PS1 and was interested.

Is the PS1 version any darker/cruder then the 3DS version? Death and words like "damn" and "hell" seem commonplace in the 3ds version, I was expecting them to cover up that stuff more. I find it interesting it didn't get a T rating like the PS1 version. I do wonder if the PS1 version would've gotten an E10 ratung had it existed at the time.

Is there anything they removed other then refering to god by name?

Can someone tell me when monsters start showing up at monster meadows?

Is it after Alltrades?

Also where the fuck do i turn in mini medals?

I know Dragon Quest 7 is supposed to be a long game, but it almost feels like it's getting stretched out. It isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I'm at Alltrades now, and could probably be on Chapter 5 in 4 in the same time. I suppose I'm less familiar with the game, but still.

On PS1 the monster meadows wasn't available until somewhat late in the game after the town with the worm problem. I imagine you won't actually get to see your meadow progress until then.

Maribel in the past says maybe Carraway is going to setup shop where that cave is over to the west

>Get to the future and its a fucking inn

Mein sides

I don't think it's stretched out. VII's setting, characters, events are much more fleshed out than anything IV. If it weren't for party chat, IV's characters might as well be blank slates.

Caraway founded a village to the east though.

True, it is fleshed out, and I appreciate it for that, but the pacing can definitely slow to a crawl at times.

Only 80k english copies

Just the fact that she said maybe he setup shop there and in the future there's a god damn inn in the middle of a poisonous swamp.

They removed most of the shrine dungeon and replaced it with a pointless fetch quest reduced the start to about an hour in length rather than 5. Bit of a shame the shrine puzzles were kidna cool

I meant was anything removed/toned down in terms of dialog or theme.

Heard there is a lot of mentions of tea drinking... but there are still a lot of drunks

>made Hero a Sailor, Maribel a Mage, and Ruff a Shepard

How fucked am I?

About 20 hours in, I haven't seen any references to alcohol or a character being drunk changed or toned down.

Should of made ruff a priest.

No one is safe except for Ruff. Not even the MC

>Check the Atributes page after getting classes
>Notice the bottom has a list of mastered classes for each character
>There are three and a half pages of ???
Jesus christ how many classes are there now?

Slime, Dumbira, Lips

LOTS OF MONSTER CLASSES

All except MC sound like decent choices to me. Choose priest for Maribel next and Thief for Ruff. You'll have some awesome intermediate classes that way.

What the fuck

Sailor who could do nothing but hide himself in a big pot?

Is that uh the magic kingdom?

All of the usual innuendo seems to be intact too
>Wife in the automaton town complaining about how her husband is always too tired to do "something" after he gets back from the castle but cuts herself off before she says it in front of the party
>Old guy who wants to become a bunny girl inviting the hero to come back for a "good time" once he's changed his vocation
Etc

>they just put the dude in fucking time out, not even locking the door

Faraday sounds nice. The beds even look comfy in jail.

>common enemy can cast thwack
>use anti-magic staff
>snow bird isn't affected x3
i love you DQ V, but come the fuck on

Really? Frizzle is usually pretty reliable. Maybe those enemies are resistant to it.

Pike makes a very unsubtle dick refference too about his stone, which you couldn't have fucking known was an item until Kiefer steals it later in the intro.

I'll try and find them. Thanks.

Waiting to see whether or not they keep the slut line.

I can only speak for myself. And my issue with Dragon Quest VI is that the main party members don't get much development. All of them only have two examples of character development. One small story arc that gets them into the party and a second small story arc later on And Nevan doesn't even get a second story arc. Literally his only purpose is to take you to his home and get the ship.

Games like Dragon Quest VII and VIII did a lot better at making characters feel unique and developed (except Jessica).

>Dragon Quest 10 has 6000 fanarts on Pixiv

Holy shit, didn't know it was that popular.

Meanwhile, DQ7 only has around 800.

>big muscular red ogre girls

I kinda hope DQXI does skills like how DQVIII did.

I really enjoyed it myself for the job system and the unique dream world shit. I also like Terry, but that's just Dragon Quest Monsters nostalgia.

I do think it's weaker than most other Dragon Quest games i've played, but it's by no means bad.

I think I know what are you talking about but I believe it was not a dragon quest game. Is the scene that is animated like and anime right?

Not that many of them actually. The fanarts are pretty equal for all races.

Terry and his sister got better character in Monsters.

I wish all DQ games has the skill system. But oh well.

Gladiator or Paladin?

Both

some of you humans are alright, don't go to Gotha tommorow

Which one first?

Gladiator gets Metal Slash so likely that.

Is it just me or the difficulty is lower in the remake?I remember had to save state and reset at least 2-3 times when fighting robot island bosses in the ps1 version. In the remake, I didn't even sweat (the minions attack can be nullified with just kabuff, the bosses did less aoe attacks).
