But because the difference is so small, then they might as well not bother, and just give both sexes the same stats for the sake of parity.

Someone on /tg/ wrote a pretty autistic post about this particular issue in D&D tabletop and it was unanimously agreed that female characters should have -4 STR and possible endurance penalties as well with no additional benefits, since physical attractiveness does not necessarily equal charisma.
