How do I get monster classes?

Also how do i keep skills i learn from secondary jobs?

Yes, but it's sad that I can't binge on it as much because wageslave.

Do not reply to tripfags.

you need monster hearts

you do not keep skills from secondary jobs, only the basic jobs and I think this includes the basic monster classes

This encounter rate is pretty fucking stupid sometimes.

Where do I get monster hearts?

>walk down narrow passage
>any enemy that spawns blocks your path completely

monsters drop them

I think they have an increased drop rate in tablet dungeons for example you can farm slime hearts there very easy

I try to avoid every battle except those in small corridors that I can't get past.

I prefer this system over random battles.

"A lady can lay under whomever she pleases."
What did Maribel mean by this?

The encounter rate is so obnoxiously shit.
Getting caught in 3 battles in a row with 5 second intervals really makes me miss Bravely default.

Tablet maps give you a better chance at them. Farming the Slime one for jobs nets you a lot of them, they're also good money.

Is there some prerequisite for them dropping them? I had everyone master three jobs each in the slime tablet and never saw a single heart

I haven't gotten one so far. I've got like two hearts from treasure chest but that's it.

>I try to avoid every battle
>avoid battle
>exit battle screen
>monster spawns directly ontop of you
>forced into battle without having taken even a step
This is fucking worse that Skies of Arcadia.

I wouldn't mind it at all if the transitions were faster and the menus didn't lag.

maybe it's based on level, at what level were you grinding at

19

I was getting tons of hearts at 19, oh did you have any thieves? that might be it

No I didn't, if you stole the hearts that's probably why you got so many, the thief stealing seems pretty good, when I leveled it on Ruff later I kept getting seeds from random enemies

>use the Feral Forest tablet
>recommended level 15

Well I'm level 20 so this will be a piece of cake.

>first random battle
>entire team is OHKO

Oh...

Fucking greenthumb meadows.

Poor carroway.

Poor lavender.

Poor Dan D. Lion

Fuck cayenne.

Everyone gets fucked.

That feel when you find lavenders grave overlooking carroways new garden and she died from illness due to overexertion working for her piece of shit husband and even when she managed to find Carroway she still fucking dies alone having never spoke to him. Then you find out Carroway was gonna go up to the convent but stopped because the little girl he was taking there was named Lavender. FUCK WHY IS THIS SO SAD. I just want to know how he found out about lavenders grave because his grave is up there in the present with hers

Why must Dragon quest give me these feels?

The Vile Vial tablet was the most cancerous one yet

>Have to Fizzle at the start of every fight to keep it from taking 10 turns
>Get to boss
>Have to Fizzle him too
>Takes pretty much no damage from magic
>Have to Sap it twice to do any reasonable amount of damage
>It spams Sandstorm every turn if anyone in your party isn't currently dazzled so physical attacks barely hit anyway
>Won by spending 20-30 turns having whoever wasn't busy casting Fizzle/Midheal/Rude Awakening spam Wind Sickles

I'm glad I'll never have to enter that tablet again

That's weird. I entered the slime tablet back when I first got it and slimes were dropping hearts all over the place. Got six in my first run. Doesn't seem to be prerequisite unless it's something obnoxious, like no job

So how exactly do I use the monster hearts to turn into monsters? I wanna slime it up

>I just want to know how he found out about lavenders grave because his grave is up there in the present with hers

You visit the town again like 10-30 years after that. You find out what happened between lavender and dill, and try to find her. When you get to the nun place you find her grave and find out that see was watching over carroway for half a year. She never spoke to him because she was ashamed of what she did and then died. Your party tells carroway grave is at the nun's place and he goes and visits it. It's pretty fucking sad

About how far into the game is the DLC bar? I'm just at Embervale right now, do I still have a ways?

You can access it after clearing the island after the one you're on now iirc

>Get to the top of the mountain for the current world
>Not enough MP to use Evac

OOOOH booooy!

Alltrades Abbey.

put the monster heart in your inventory and talk to the job dude

>Boss in the bottom of the well
>Maribel goes down on the last turn
>"Oh well, everything's all set now here"
>Thrown immediately into another boss fight
Welp. Should've used that Yggdrasil Leaf.

Cool cool, I'll just try to crush it tonight then, thanks.

About level 15 for me. Its before you get classes. But you need to find three monsters based on the clues they give you. And yes, they are sometimes found inside buildings like an Inn.

The game showers you with Chimera Wings

That next boss only uses physical attacks, if you cast Buff twice he pretty much can't damage that person

I was in a similar situation, except everyone was alive but two of the three had no MP

I don't pay for censored games.

What did you name your hero? I named mine Sven.

>there's 54 possible jobs

>wiggles
;_:

why u do dis dq7

also

>make maribel a healslime
>takes forever to level up in
>master class
>multiheal that early on

nice

Well yeah that would've been the plan but I immediately ate Omph + Fists of Fury on just two targets instead of all three, so Hero and Ruff got assblasted

Luckily I dumped all my gold in the bank last time I was at Alltrades.

One time he used Fists of Fury and did every hit on my mage, and each hit did 5-10 damage, even with Oomph up

I can't wait to get Kabuff

Yeah that's pretty much what just happened when I beat him, except Maribel managed to eat shit on the last turn of the fight again because the turn order rolls decided to not be in my favor at the last minute and she got fisted instead of healed. Oh well, now Ruff will be a bit more caught up I guess.

Having a coffin just laying around in these cutscenes is pretty funny.

>dat Meena & Maya reference in Greenthumb Gardens past
Nice.

>that yellow tornado boss
Jesus, snooze is fucking awful

>finally found the sunken city
>it's fucking frozen

Welp, guess the carpet is still far away.

Do debuffs and buffs stay active for a certain number of turns or are the indefinite?

Also I don't get some abilities, like why would I ever attack normally with Raff if I have that move where he attacks a whole group of enemies. This has absolutely no downside whatsoever compared to a basic attack.

Only played DQ IX before and that was like 5 years ago.

They wear off. The game will tell you in text when they do.

"Maribel's Oomph goes."
"The effects of buff wore off."

What requirements do I need for monster hearts to drop? I'm a Hero and I haven't gotten one slime heart.

>those torture chains on the present desert castle

Pretty gory for a Nintendo game

Can someone tell me how to get the hidden staircase in Temple Palace?

I've scoured that back room and am not finding shit.

Where the fuck am I supposed to go after finishing Hubble? I asked the guy or guidance but he said he can't here anything from god.

Chimera wings dont count as evac too do they?

Also i cant seem to find them in any stores

Talk to the queen.

In the past after the sun has returned

For anybody worrying about the trickle of money, you can circumvent that easily once you get to the first casino. Lucky Panel is the easiest way to make money/get good gear.

>mfw spend 1000 gold on tokens come out with 10,000+ gold after 30 minutes.

Statue on the right go behind it and press a when facing it

ze 'ench dialect es a 'ad 'nnoying to read.

woodus.com/den/games/dw7psx/lucky_panel_app.php

heeeeeee

>get to the village with the giant tree

Holy shit, everyone is crazy here.

Ja, it is being one of the worse ones, nej?

Well it is pretty creepy i'll give you that.

Well oh well.

>mfw i can't read the dialogue

Where did you get that extra story?

How is the game in terms of balance, challenge, etc? Is this one of these classic turn-based JRPGs where you just spam attack skills mindlessly, or is it like Etrian Odyssey where defensive/supportive classes/spells are very much needed to beat the game?

its when you finish the town with the bridge and go to cross it

The game is much easier than the PS1 version. But still requires you to use more than just attack. Some of the DLC tablets are punishing and I can't beat them yet.

Somewhere in the middle

You won't get far without using defense buffs and debuffs but you can get through most regular encounters mashing attack

Honestly it feels easier than most other DQ games, like I remember in VIII a lot of regular enemies would be fucking annoying to deal with if you didn't take advantage of Snooze/Fizzle/Dazzle/etc, but here you just one-shot everything around your level if you've been keeping up on gear

>villagers cutting down the tree with sticks and clubs

Don't think you'll be cutting anything with those.

And finally, we get to see an elf.

VIII was a joke in terms of difficulty, what are you talking about?

How far are you guys?

Thanks anons. I forgot to trigger a cutscene with Hadid that made it so the queen never showed up at the palace after restoring the sun.

Is there a list of monster locations for the Haven? I have only met the slime so far.

The difficulty of regular enemies starts ramping up a bit after Alltrades. Nothing too hard yet though.

Snooze also doesn't feel as effective as it was in the other games for some reason either, maybe I'm just getting unlucky.

I am enjoying it but I think I fucked up on a thing early on and now I'm gonna restart it.
And yeah I'm looking forward to throwing money at more DQ games.

What?

There is in Japanese. Gimmie a few minutes and I'll translate it, though I don't know how helpful it'll be since most of the names probably changed and I don't know the English names.

Pilchard Bay - Bard at the dock
Estard - Man 2nd floor of the Inn
Ballymolloy - Lady 2nd floor of the tallest building.

Here's part of the list

Suraran - Fishbell, Southern tip

Nasshi - Gran Estard, second floor of inn

Hanamii - Wood Paruna (first town in the past), second floor of tall building

Biigon - Englow (Emberdale in English?), bar

Dakkuru - Foorisshu (City on the island besiged by robots), bar

Dorassu - Mazare (place where you get the flying carpet I think), bar

Babuul - In that place southeast of Darma Shrine, southern tip of the casino well.

Sumoppo - Inside the pot in the Desert Town

Sakkuru - Kureju inn (Town with that giant tree I think)

It would probably be fine to just give a description of where NPCs are as that's what the game does. But some of the hints in the game are kind of cryptic. Especially because of the dialects.

>so many metal slimes in the tree dungeon
>can't kill any of them because I don't have metal slash yet

Fuuuuuck.

>Not having Hatchet Man

>not being a god hand by the time you get to the tree

>That Yggdrasil Dew shop in present Grondal
>A king gets in line
>A chancellor asking about hair loss
>A guy who just loves queueing
>A fucking dog

I love this game

Thanks. Wish they had more unique appearances.

I played DQVII for like 1h and I liked what I seen.
Maribel is already my favorite character, though I'm gonna leave the game for later because its apparently really long.
How long is the 3DS version anyway?

Also really excited for DQ Builders, I played the japanese version and enjoyed it.

and the rest of it

Meetan - Litorud (Town with that kooky inventor), top of the clock tower

Mucho - Statue of the Earth Spirit, right side

Mikkul - Haamelia (One of the towns in the flood scenario, I think the biggest? Not sure) Basement of the guard tower

Puchiro - The city in the valley that's all about the wind, in the church.

Tatsunon - Bridge southwest of Probina, on the coast. This is the town with the Goddess statue story.

Surausu - Coastal (Last island I think, it has the second casino), top of the northwest tower

I was going to include their races too, but realized that that would also be hard as I've never played a DQ in English and don't know what most are called anyway. Hopefully those lists help a bit though.

Auster because I'm a stickler for using even semi-official names in any game

1. Poet/Minstral guy on Fishbel (first town; now called Pilchard's Bay) Pier. Shows up once town is unlocked
2. Farmer in Second Floor of Estard Inn; shows up after recruiting first guy
3. Villager Girl in Rexwood, 2nd floor of some area, can't quite make out what it's talking about, some kinda elevated area or hill or something is what it's referreing to, so maybe just the upper part of the town I guess; appears once you recruit first guy

Town Upgrades after getting 3 people

4. Cook in Engow Tavern, appears after upgraded Town and Clearing Falrod
5. Rowdy/Tough looking guy in Falrish Inn; appears after upgrading Town and Clearing Verdham
6. Soldier in first floor of Mezar Inn; appears after upgrading Town and Clearing Dharma
7. Woman wearing a Dress in Bar at Casino in Well Southeast of Dharma; appears after upgrading Town and Clearing Dharma

Town Upgrades again after getting 7 people total

8. Sailor in large pot in Desert Village in Dune; appears after upgrading town twice and Clearing Krages
9. Martial Artist in Room in first story of Krages Inn; appears after upgrading town twice and Clearing Krages
10. Princess/Spoiled Girl in Litorud Clock Tower; appears after upgrading town twice
11. Priest/Abbot in right side of Sphinx in Dune; appears after upgrading town twice and clearing Lumen (specifically mentions Dark Dragon in particular)
12. Suspicious Looking Man in First Basement Floor of Hamelia Tower (? Not sure if it's actually the tower or not, since I'm not familiar with actual wording used; Jisho just gives it as lookout, and I can't think of anything else that fits that bill besides the tower); appears after upgrading town twice
13. Child in Gorges Church; appears after upgrading town twice and Clearing Coastal
14. Warrior on small bridge southwest of Probina; appears after upgrading town twice and clearing Coastal

After I finish translating all that... Oh well.

>fully explore island town/dungeon in past
>go back to present
>have to fully explore exact same town/dungeon in present
>this is 80% of the game
Dropped.

>This has absolutely no downside whatsoever compared to a basic attack
Skills can't crit.

Down in the pub are a couple of sisters dancing. One of whom got drug into it by her gambling happy sis. Oh and their Pa is dead.

I hear there's an unbeatable boss near Alltrades Abbey. Do I need to bank my money?

What is the mysterious fragment used for?

It's not unbeatable at all, it's just the first real difficulty spike

Is there any difference between the thief's key and the bandit's key? I didn't notice the thief's key in the shops before I got the bandit's key, and don't want to go all the way back to the past shit towns to get a thief's key if I don't have to.

You regain your spells and skills after 2-3 grueling hours of nothing but attacking and using items, including two dungeons that each were longer than all the dungeons so far put together:
Very brief jingle

Some useless NPC who doesn't even show up in battles joins you for story reason:
10 second fanfare

You win 1000 coins at the slots:
30 seconds of uninterruptable musical celebration

Never change, Dragon Quest.

>Never change, Dragon Quest.
If only it would change. But, Japanese are masters at padding out games to ridiculous lengths.

Just got to Alltrades Abbey. Recommended classes for each character? Pretty sure I'm going Cleric for Maribel but unsure past that.

Level up classes that has useful skills first till you get the said skills, then change to whatever classes you like.

Everything on everyone

>Vile Vial tablet dungeon
>Everyone is constantly asleep and dazzled

So hows the plot like? Is it at least half as good as DQV?
Also can you have tame monsters to your party

>So hows the plot like? Is it at least half as good as DQV?
There's an overall plot, but mainly, you'll go to an island in the past, do a self-contained story event, return to the island in the present to catch up on what happened after you saved it, then you're off to the next island. It's not too bad, I like all the little stories, and the overarching plot isn't too bad either.

>Also can you have tame monsters to your party
No, but if you get a monster heart, you can turn someone from your party into that monster and learn some monster-exclusive skills

Plot?

What plot?

15 hours in and there's been el zilcho in the plot department. You can recruit monsters but not to battle alongside you.

Everyone in Greenthumb was a fucking beta Cuck or Bitches/Whore

>Two Guys cucked by eachother over same girl
>Both end up miserable
>Girl ends up miserable
>Maid ends up miserable

Only persons who was cool was bitch dancers and bro from fire country

>Plot?
>What plot?
The Great Evil is mentioned a few times. The whole 'why are these islands missing? plot is there from the start.

So after like 3 hours and finishing the 1st tablet I noticed the "i" in my name is actually a "j". Is it possible to rename your character?

So plotwise its like Dragon Quest IX? Thats weird.

You got 17-22 horus until you can. Talk to a priest in present day alltrades in the basement

Yes, once you get to present Alltrades Abbey

Oh, nice.

Few just got done grinding all base jobs for hero , maribel and ruff.

So apparently you've overlooked the dozens of mentions of the almighty fighting against a demon lord. Or you're totally ignoring NPCs.

Its basically the plot for Slayers. And there's even a part where the characters start using a sword that looks just like the sword of light.

The boss there is absolute cancer, I hope your whole party knows Fizzle, Rude Awakening, and Wind Sickles

>sad

Nigga, maybe if gardener guy hadn't been such a fuccboi beta and eloped with the girl after she literally told him to , this shit wouldn't have happened. There's no tragic circumstances, it's just him being a retard.

Like goddamn, even the turbo autist living all by himself after his girlfriend died eventually found happiness with his robo-girlfriend. This guy had a girl almost jump his cock and he still managed to fuck up.

What spell cures confusion?

Warrior's Rude Awakening ability, cures sleep too

Kazapple

You sure? Tinkle cures Sleep but it doesn't cure Confusion for some reason.

>you will never give maribel a foot massage while she nags you about trivial nonsense

>Tinkle cures Sleep but it doesn't cure Confusion for some reason.
>its like Pokemon where confusion is a status effect in its own category unlike sleep, frozen or burn

You know, the princess was crushing on that turbo autist.

Full Heals cure Confusion though

>monster blocks the way to another area/town
But why

Dungeons start getting wider corridors like 25 hours in, for some reason.

Oh wow the almighty and demon king had a fight a long time ago, what an engrossing enriching story.

Probably their way of balancing. They wanted to make sure people got a ton of battles in before the class change so they didn't have trouble at Dharma. Unlike the PS1 game where you can get there severely underleveled.

>want to change MC's class to mariner/pirate to match his father
>but also tempted to make a healer MC
Doshio

If you want instant story development, try something like Final Fantasy.

>Final Fantasy X takes 70% of the game to finally explain what happened in the first FMV and 90% of the game to get to Tidus' main objective of fighting Jecht and Yu Yevon

Whoops. Nevermind. Guess there's nothing that will suit your micro attention span.

Does the game ever have any emotional highnotes in it? I still remember that 'chest' the prince left me in 5, completely floored me.

I made the hero a Mariner/Pirate in the PS1 release, but it was a dead end in the PS1 game since it didn't count towards Hero. And the pirate skills were all shit minus the net ability.

However, looking over the new class system, you just need to learn 3 intermediate classes of any type. Which Pirate counts as an intermediate class. So I'm gonna go Pirate again and hope its better this time. Already maxed Thief and on to Sailor.

Reminder that DQV is the best DQ.

Prove me wrong.

Why do you keep posting this exact same thread?

My favorite is Dragon Quest VIII. Its totally subjective, but that's my view.

Dragon Quest III, IV and V are all tied for second place. But if this remake of VII continues to be as good as the first 30 hours, it'll probably be up with those as well.

According to someone earlier in the thread, Pirate gets Sword Dance now (instead of it being a Warrior + Dancer cross-skill, since those are gone) so that might be nice.

>tfw DQ7 is selling more than any 3DS game
>tfw even surpassing Pokemon Sun and Mario Maker 3DS pre-orders

I didn't expect this desu though Pokemon Moon still is selling a lot

It's Dragon Quest, friend. They all have extremely functional plots with, at best, some twist around the halfway mark. Now enjoy the smaller subplots and party dialogue on your way to the final boss (spoilers: it's the Demon King, like in every DQ).

I can't.

Pirate now gets sword dance, which a skill that was sought much before in the ps1, so I think it'll be better.

I like how he used unconventional weapon as an MC, unlike most of other MCs who uses swords.

I dunno about it outselling Pokemon, but I hope that the surge in popularity means we'll be getting those other 3DS titles and guarantees XI won't be 3 years waiting after it's release.

But you at least admit that DQV had the best and most relatable hero, yes?

>DQ V HERO.jpg
>it's not a picture of Parry
one job, user.

What's the number?

I was more surprised that the best Staff is like two points stronger than even a Metal King Sword.

Listen, he is the real hero, okay?

why don't we make a general?

What do you think this thread is?

>skeleton squire
>"I've got a bone to pick with you"

YES, give us DQX, and every game we missed. EVERY SINGLE ONE

Fuck off OP

It's a fucking plot point that he ISN'T the hero, you numbskull

There is one, it's in /vr/. We've tried multiple times to make generals in /vg/ but they just die.
You can feel free to try again, though. Who knows, it might last this time.

thread move to slow for a general and these threads will gradually dissapear because the initial hype will fade

Skyrim!

Haven't overlooked anything. I'm saying that stuff, even by DQ standards, doesn't qualify as a plot. 4/5/6/8/9 already had substantial plots unfolding well before this games has.

It was a great, subtle way at hinting at the main twist since he's not the actual hero

I'd refrain from calling someone a "numbskull" if you can't even comprehend the obvious.

He had the hardest life and I respect him for all he went through. But part of the reason I like DQVIII the best is I relate to its hero the most. He's the best example of an average joe I've seen in a game. Then at the end of the game, you find out he was special all along. It was a genius form of story-telling.

I'd say you're the one having trouble comprehending the obvious, especially when the game outright tells you.

>we finally get DQX
>it's an F2P version with cash shop items and 4 years behind updates
>you need to buy cash items to play sugoroku
Would you still play it?

>He's the best example of an average joe I've seen in a game.
But wasn't that supposed to be VII's schtick?

You might consider DQ8 Hero's "canon" weapon a Spear, since that's what he has in the flashbacks to before him and Yangus almost fell off the rope bridge. That's where Yangus loses his Axe too.

Then again, all the official art shows him with a sword anyways.

>He's the best example of an average joe I've seen in a game. Then at the end of the game, you find out he was special all along
Sounds like Naruto.

Yes. I'd still play PSO2 if it got released after all this time.

I think I am enjoying it. The only thing that worries me is apparently the game is 100 hours or something and I'm taking it very very slow.

Never played a DQ game before. Seems fun so far.

Collecting the tablets for the second island at the moment and looking forward to what little story the island will have.

DQ8 is the only mainline DQ I haven't played yet (X doesn't count, obviously), so I'm not really familiar about that.

Fuck that. Download the quest with diamond mannequins. As long as you're around level 20 and have 2 people with hatchet man you're netting 5000 gold per battle.

It's 100 hours because you're forced to literally play the game twice. Enjoy!

Job guide where. I've completely stopped playing and I'm stuck at the Abbey because I don't know what to do. All these options are too intimidating.

He is, for all intents and purposes, "the Hero", just not the Zenithian Hero of legend. Do not bully this man, he has suffered enough.

A mysterious dungeon.

where can i kill king metal slimes/liquid slimes in DQV?

He's the protagonist, not the hero.

I forget where Liquid Metal Slimes are, but King Metal Slimes can be found in the bonus dungeon.

dq7.org/
gamefaqs.com/boards/688276-dragon-quest-vii-fragments-of-the-forgotten-past/73896111

Currently hanging out with "Roamers". Is this island All-Trades in the present or am I in for another dozen or so non-descript island visits before then?

Well that sounds pretty shitty.

Could anyone specify more on this? I'm thinking of buying this game, but I ended up dropping Bravely Default because of that bullshit that it pulled in the second half. Does DQ7 do the same exact thing?

He's more likely referring to seeing how the island turned out in the present when you liberate it in the past. And the main story has been streamlined a lot in this release. I'm on par for a 60 hour clear personally. But the additional side content actually beats the old release by a mile.

Alltrades abbey is the next island, iirc.

Naruto was never implied to be average. He was always shunned by the older parents because they knew he had a god demon inside him. And the kids followed their parents hate.

The hero in DQVIII was just an orphan kid that no one knew and rose to become a guard for the castle. Medea took a shine to him, but otherwise he was just a generic guard. And all through the game, the King just treats him like a servant. Its only after you beat the game and do the extra content that you find out he was special.

Honestly the hero of VII is my favorite. He isn't royalty or chosen or anything. He's just a goofy kid who does what he can to help the world. I always hear peoole say he looks too weak but I like that, most 16 year olds look kind a lanky and awkward like he does. I also really like the hero of IV and V though.

Does the present island make you do the same exact things from the past island?

It reflects on his combat growth too. He's nothing special at first, but once you start reaching high levels, he turns into one hell of a healing support powerhouse.

No. You do revisit a few dungeons sure. But for the most part they are just talking to some npcs before moving on to the next island.

Not at all.
The general layout of the island is the same, but usually, the locations aren't. And there's usually less and frequently no combat in the present; it's honestly more like a playable epilogue to each little side scenario you encounter on the islands than anything.
Definitely not anything like Bravely Default.

He is "the Hero" of Dragon Quest V. His child is the "Legendary Hero", yeah, but it's still his story and his journey.

Damn, thanks,

liquids are by the dungeon where you had to rescue harry as a kid

>Mannequin dungeon
>they never run
>they deal 100 to each party member

Oh, ok.

Thanks, that doesn't sound too bad. Looks like I'll be picking this up.

Just completed the sea palace dungeon and the shard finder is going off at the top floor of the tower but i can't find the shard anywhere. What gives?

Are you talking about the downloadable one? I remember trying that and dying on the first encounter, guess I'm thankful they make you save every time you download something.

Would you a Liquid Metal Slime?

>you can show the cat the Seal of Sands
Ok, that's pretty good

How can anyone be this dumb?

So what took Kiefer and Lala so long, were they just fucking the entire time?

>tfw you accidentally get so overleveled that the enemies in the story area you're currently in don't give job ranks anymore

Fuck you metal slimes

Yeah. It actually felt like you started off as just a generic guard who grew 'courageous' through experience. And genuinely wanted to protect the princess.

5 hours in at Emberdale. I'm ready for the long haul.

>Knuckle Sandwich
Someone please tell me this works with Focus Strength

Is this the only DQ game where metal slimes aren't desirable?

I think all that mercury would hurt my delicate skin.

it does

>would hurt my delicate skin.
i'm pretty sure with that much mercury you wouldn't have much to worry about

>he fell for the powerleveling meme

So in the clock dungeon, I apparently bumbled my way directly to the end. I think I got everything in the teleporter maze but there were a few warps in the first room I never checked, will I be able to get back in here to look at those after beating the boss?

That's a problem. I've been avoiding fighting battles for the past two islands and the current one because my party is already L16. Guess I'm going to miss out on that sweet, sweet vocation experience because I'm getting mighty tired of going out of my way to avoid or flee from random battles.

VI works the same way.

>defeat the gang of bandits
>leave and rest at the Inn
>come back and another guy is lying on the ground
>he runs off when he recognizes your the team that kicked his ass
>Maribel compliments them

Its all those little touches that make Dragon Quest endearing.

FANTASTIC

We don't know how many copies until next week (every friday they release a sales chart) but is selling a lot here in Chile
In fact, many stores already sold out every copy they had and two of the most popular stores here have few stocks right now

You explore the same town (usually) and have to revisit the same dungeon (usually) with no layout or changes in monster lineups. It's filler pure and true.

Maribel's party chat is comedy gold.

"Welcome to the Salty Spatoon, how tough are ya?"
"Get lost!"
"Alright, you're plenty tough, come on in."

>In fact, many stores already sold out every copy they had
I'd chalk that up to a low print run. Nintendo/SE are still scarred from VI/Joker 2. Plus now that there's the eshop, there is unlimited copies so why should they print much more than they got pre-orders for?

I like him, too. The protagonist of V is eternal bro-tier, of course, but VII's protag seems like the most kind and chill one among all of them. Him being so small only reinforces my impression of someone who really rather wouldn't battle at all, but does it to help people.

What's the best job progression for each character?

I've always liked Maribel's design, but she's really grown on me after reading some of her party chat lines. It's almost like a sarcastic commentary track for the game at times.

A bunch of basic/monster jobs with skills you want -> Cycle through some Advanced jobs until you unlock Hero/Godhand/Drui

Go back and get some more basic/monster skills if you want since you can use those with all classes.

After playing VII, I'd say VI is still my favorite in the series. Best world, characters, story, game structure. Plus it wasn't a pain in the ass to revisit places as it is in VII.

You finished it already?

Its always weird to me to think the hero of V is only in his early twenties at the latest by the end of the game.
>6 at start of the game
>spends 10 years in labor camp
>spends 8 years as a statue
You could argue he might be even 16 which is fucking insane.

Love his design, purple cape and lond hair are badass.

"finish" is a weird word with 2 bonus dungeons, and story dlc not even out yet.

>story dlc
Didn't know about this, is it free or paid dlc? Will get either way.

Where is the Thief Key? I thought it was sold in the town below Alltrades Abbey

General people would just assume it refers to main story, but I guess Cred Forums-goers are just that autist.

The first one was free(available right now if you beat the final boss), so expect the rest to be too.

It IS being sold there. Item shop, in the past.

I feel retarded, but I Just got done unflooding the Almighty's Altar and I can't fucking find the way to get in.

How long did it take you?

Examine the writing on the right of the stairs. The old man should be standing right in front of it, if I recall correctly.

Holy shit exact same spot and same problem. They're telling me I need to see what is written on a stone and I have no idea what they're talking about.

Got it. Do you need to buy more than one?

Ahaha fuck. I saw that they moved out of the way, but I didn't really think it was that important. Thanks.

I've opened multiple chests with the single one I bought, so I don't think so. Of course, it could end up randomly breaking or something, but I doubt they would do something this dickish.

You haven't needed more than one key since the original game.

That was my guess but you're allowed to buy more than one at the store which I find very strange.

why did toriyama draw maribel like a semen demon where every other female he draws looks the same

Because you're a pedo.

Anybody? Do I just leave?

in the mountains or open?

Yes, holy shit try something instead of waiting 30 minutes for an answer on a korean origami subreddit.

doesn't matter

Because not all his girls look the same.

Maribel is for letting yourself get berated by, not fucks, you weirdo.

Holy shit, I hope you are b8ing m8.

This is down syndrome tier stupidity.

>get to desert
>the town turns me away
>the castle is in ruins

That's what tells you it's good storytelling.

You feel the weight and struggle that the hero goes through, which makes it seem like a lifetime.

But he really is only 17 years old, if you factor in the fact that his wife got preggo and they traveled for 9 months.

you serious?, the fuck are you waiting for man, I wish I could forget all about DQ VIII and play it all over again

You forgot

>Gold batboons roaming the castle

>Vile Vials

>But he really is only 17 years old

The hero ages 9 years when he's a slave. Then another 7 years as a statue. And an untold amount of time actually going on his journey. In the end, he's probably close to 30. Near the age his dad was before he died

I'm kind of a poorfag. Didn't have a ps2 back then, and my current toaster ran DQVIII through pcsx2 for like 5 fps. That's why I'm really excited for 3ds version of DQVIII.

That's okay, I don't need to use my weapons. I'll just spam bang!

>turned Maribel into a martial artist

FUCK!

>Untold amount

Exactly. Unless specified otherwise and/or their is any evidence to it, we don't just assume he magically aged 13+ years.

Should I bother having my party max Shepherd and Jester too, or just the other 8 basic classes

She should stop acting like a hoochie over the dude Kiefer stole a bitch from.

oh I get you, enjoy it man, only a handfull of games gave me that feeling of grand adventure and wonder

Is there a shop that sells magic water in this game? I want to try cheating my gold to max and buying many of them just for obliterating enemies with spells.

Powerleveling jobs in the slime dungeon stops working at 20, right? Or is it 21?

And is it just me or does Troubador take forever to hit the last job level on?

>tfw Maribel is a druid
>that extremely cute outfit

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't it state him and Bianca didn't age at all as statues?

you don't age when you're a statue, dude. because you're a fucking statue.

>the innkeeper actually jumped over the counter

kek

She's teasing the protag. It's pretty much her entire MO.

Is there a pic for every characters in every classes? I want to see how they look before changing.

It shows you when you highlight the class in the class change menu

I haven't gotten DQVII but I ordered DQVI yesterday. Gonna start playing the ones translation of 2 on my 3DS later.

Are there any missable mini medals?

Can i miss being able to go to the post-game content if i miss the mini-medals? Or did they fix those issues in the remake

>OjouTsun

My dick can't take much more of this.

>The shepherd skill which puts all monsters to sleep for 0 MP

it didn't directly state it but their bodies didn't age for eight and ten years, assuming the hero is 6 before fist time skip, he's 26 ten after slavery, ten for his kids and sancho searching for them(it took hero and his kids and sancho two years to find his wife) i'm still fucking shocked that the time between getting married and reaching gotha took an entire pregnancy

I mean like official arts and the likes.

They didn't, which sets his age at 20 (physically) and 28 (chronologically).

Where did you get 26 after slavery?

I live shit like that.
Damn that's cute as fuck.

I never thought I'd want more Maribel being a fag for cowtits. But here I am with a severe lack of her wanting more.

read the post he's 16 then by the time him and his wife aren't statues another ten years have past

>DeadNoble boss in the desert
>"I have a bone to pick with you!"

He would be 16 after being freed, he was 6 when hecwas captured and spent 10 years in the labor camp.

>Carraway named his daughter Lavender

It's hard to read when your grammar skills are on par with Harambe.

Also, the other user is right. He's 20 years old physically by the time he has his kids.

>teach it to entire party in IX
>punchfuck my way across entire continets

>mfw there's a different set of messages for checking a mirror with Ruff before he learns to speak and after.

They really thought of everything, didn't they?

>Maribel digging graves with her bare hands

That's it. She's the best DQ girl now. Sorry Alena.

nigga i'll fight you

>tension to 100
>cast oomph
>double edge slash

TACTICAL MURDER SUICIDE FOR MASSIVE DAMAGE

>liquid metal slime flees

>stupidly cute
>stupidly hot despite showing no skin
>stupidly skilled (master of many vocations)
>pure maiden
>one-girl monster genocide

>robot psaro is weak to ruff's intimidation bark

what the fuck

>not falcon slash

youtube.com/watch?v=zUkR-SqhbEM

she's a child you literal pedophile

also she's obviously retarded, with the narito running

>comparing a child to the princess of premium punching

Isn't she less than a year younger than Jessica?

I just like the idea of scaring bosses with ridiculous shit
>kill self and priest revives in next turn
I'd piss myself if I was a videogame boss against that

Half a year younger iirc

I just got to Animal Village, and now I'm running all over Estard trying to figure out who can speak to these pidgin fucks.

is there a function in the 3ds Monsters to import monters from Joker? I really don't wanna leave all those motherfuckers behind

if we ever do get a release... Let's hope sales convince them.

did you not go to the cabin in the west or something

you have to explore

>Maribel: (sigh) I really don't want to walk home, I'm exhausted! ... Hero! Carry me!

>revives in next turn
>not timing it factoring character's speed differences so that you'll get ress'd as soon after you died

I've been in every house and talked to every person, as far as I'm aware. I'll try again soon.

Estard is the name of the entire island and not just that one town

well it's been a while, I think that's what I did

Does the Ai react to things that happen within the turn? I swear it seemed like that happened in IX.

Pretty sure she's 16. That's above the age of consent in most countries.

For real?

You should have met someone who was talking to animals the first time you saw him. If you never met him then go to the one location on the island you haven't been to yet.

Yeah the AI chooses its moves on the fly instead of locking in at the start of a turn like you do, and it'll do things like switching from a multi target to a single target move when all but one monster dies before their turn to act

"Arg, why are all the people here so old!"

So the second time you visit Greenthumb, is there anything to do after you watch the maid accuse Cayenne and show Carraway Lavender's grave?

Wait nevermind, I just ran around randomly then shit started happening again

I want replaying IX before I start VII

Only 14 hours in IX fuck meeee

Pre ordered VII for nothing

Finish replaying*

Fuck me

>In the Volcano
>Maribel is talking about how much she's sweating

...

Kiefer just left me, how long until Mervyn joins me?

>replaying IX
>only 14 hours in
Just give up on that and play VII already.

America is the only country that matters, you third world shitter.

This. Dragon Quest VII is just better in everything DQIX tried to do. Story, progression and classes. Only thing DQIX has is making your own characters. And I'd take Maribel's party chat over that any day,

>you will never huff her armpits
>or Sofia's
>or Alena's

Where did you go, I'm in the same spot right now

I live in America. And each state has their own age of consent law. So try again.

Leave the big house then try to go back in, Cayenne will barge out then drop something

Oh nevermind, I found it too

Jesus Christ this entire area has the atmosphere of a soap opera

>this entire area has the atmosphere of a soap opera

But no one is in coma or dead.

But you're wrong on both

Okay about to head to dharma temple in the past, you guys have scarred me a bit with the difficulty. Hero and Maribel are 15, Ruff is 14, both the hero and Ruff have edged boomerangs, and I have 100 medical herbs in my bag, will I be fine?

It's not that bad, there are no real boss fights you're actually supposed to win until you get your abilities back anyway

You should be fine. Just be aware of your limitations and don't overextend.
Be sure to pick a good class to change to. Might as well pick a Jester for your first time around, though it doesn't really matter either way.

Okay, I don't know I have heard multiple people say they struggled with it and even saw a guy say the original PS1 version of this section was the hardest part in the series. I have beaten multiple DQ games but even still I was a bit nervous.

Just make sure you have 99 Medicinal Herbs before you go through the portal. And make sure you have edged boomerangs and a good whip.

>Setesh the Punisher launches an all-out attack!

Spamming animal magnetism makes monster capture a 100% capture rate

If anyone else can confirm.

I did this to a king slime, golem, scare well, well wisher as well

I hit him for 800 damage with a knuckle punch he hit my hero with only 5 damage on all-out attack.

I was a level 18 godhand though so uh

I had a level 16 Pirate, a level 17 Priest and a level 15 Shepherd. Even when my allies were double-buffed, a stray hit would deal 80-96 damage, which would OHKO 99% of the time.

My hero was in full plate armor and i used kabuff a couple times on gabo and maribel.

I was the same level with just my first classes and he couldn't OHKO me, cast Buff dude.

>Setesh the Punisher completely loses it on...

>made Maribel a Priest
>she just dug 14 graves all by herself

Couple questions:

Am I able to share the DLC tablets with friends once I beat them? I have a friend who just picked this up but I'm worried he won't get that far by the 30th.

Also, I'm at the animal town, how many more islands do I have to clear before I get jobs unlocked? Loving the game, by the way.

This from the manga? I always wanted to read it since the art is high quality but I don't think it ever got translated.

>and classes
Nuh-uh. DQ9's classes system was better. There was no shitty 'level cap' that limits you from doing anything you like.

Story is also debatable, as not all the mini stories in dq7 are excellent, some are just boring or straight up stupid and are definitely worse than some of the good ones in dqix. Though I can't say much for the main story since I'm still 15 hours into 7 yet.

Judging by the wall of text on the right side, I think that's more of a novel than a manga.

>100 medicinal herbs
Isn't that a little bit overkill?

Kiefer just left the party.

Shit, I didn't see that coming. ;_;

Not sure about the tablet thing since I haven't messed with them yet, but you're still a ways off from getting jobs. You have about 3 or 4 more islands until you reach Alltrades Abbey, then you have to also complete it to unlock jobs.

>golem dance animation

At most 35-40 if your underleveled

Fuck, I'm already level 10, hope I don't get too OP before I unlock them.

Okay i have confirmed through testing that using animal magnetism 10 times GUARANTEES a monster will be recruited after the fight

Man I lvled all base vocations I am reckoning shit in desert land.

>animal magnetism
Is that a skill or item?

Skill monster mash class

>using Scorch on these monsters

Not even that I am using Stomp Lightning x2 or wind sickle just rapes. Ill try using scorch.

youtube.com/watch?v=U3NoDEu7kpg
made me want to listen to that song lol.

I mastered monster masher and didn't learn that skill.

Its an ability under other.

If you didn't i dont know what god damn sorcery is going on in your cartridge.

Are you sure it wasn't shepherd?

You need to master thief and shepherd to become a monster masher

it's literally one of the first skills you get from monster masher, check all of the menus and you should find it

>fighting Setesh for the umpteenth time
>the fight was normal at first
>then he starts doing nothing but attacking Maribel
>it got to the point where Maribel spent all her turns healing the damage done while the other two dished out damage
I'm so glad I gave her a cloak of evasion. It saved her ass at least two or three times when he tried to pull an all-out attack after attacking already

Wait, are you guys grinding away at the vocations as soon as you unlocked them? Isn't there still some 60 hours or so after that point in the game? What's the point in grinding so early?

Just cleared the Abbey, party is Level 18. What's the best way to grind vocations?

I'm in the desert right now and i can't figure out where to find the serpent. I got the sand seal but i can't figure out where to go from there

Also i see a lot of people talking about a slime dungeon. I'm almost level 20 all around and have not seen one yet. how soon till that pops up?

Why are all these passages so fucking narrow holy shit

I don't get it either, but eh whatever. Nothing wrong with tearing ass through the game I guess.

To steamroll the game?

Slimetree dungeon through the pedestal at The Haven.

Flash the seal to everyone, spin by the river, then go to that fossil dig site in the present near where the caravan was in the past.

Slime dungeon is in The Haven. You should get it by now.

return to the present and go to the excavation site and you'll find the serpent skull with two golden horns
you also should have the slime dungeon unlocked by now if you recruited the first monster-human for the haven.

Jesus, do you even do anything that isn't strictly advancing the storyline? If you talked to the villagers and cared enough to do side shit, it should be insanely obvious what to do next

Pls no bully

Nope, I mastered it. I changed to hero though, did that make me forget them?

Yup.

Kinda bullshit hero should retain monster masher.

So i'm in emberdale.

Who's the grubby looking guy with a jug?

I've already hit the cap so I'm continuing the story.

Yeah, skills/spells learned from intermediate and advanced classes like monster masher aren't permanent so you have to be using that class to have the skill.

>gamefaqs.com/boards/688276-dragon-quest-vii-fragments-of-the-forgotten-past/73896111

Are the bolded ones important skills or something?

And I wish there are descriptions detailing what they do. I got tons of offensive abilities that are no better than my usual attack.

>never able to be carried over

Well that's silly. Guess I'll have Ruff go back to Masher if I decide to deal with recruiting.

I did it and I rekt Setesh ass so bad.

I used Thin Air on my hero did 97-98 every turn and wind sickled him x2 a turn. Maribel was hit hard but i healed her no biggie.

Holy fuck Pirate is so fucking good.

>no mana ability that hits everything and is the highest damage than anything else my party can do

Thin air has been one-shotting (or thin air + someone else melee) almost everything for 4 islands now. Apparently Pirate also gets Sword Dance now later too wtf

they are if you also learn them from a monster class

What does sword dance do?

watch out for green micic chests

they have a spell that can instant kill and they have two turns

>tfw want to master pirate but its skills don't transfer
at least it has the best outfit

4 attacks at 75% power unless they changed it

>you cant zoom out
>the islands feel like a fucking back yard
DQ8 was a mistake.

I'm still fucking around with base classes before I move on to some advanced shit, so far I've ended up with the Hero and Maribel being fucking powerhouses while Ruff has a lot of useful utility shit so far. Might just have him go Warrior once he gets done with Shepherd just so he can actually do damage. Or I'll see what he gets from Jester.

So far Focus Strength + Knuckle Sandwich is hitting for 300+. Downs bosses in a few turns.

>I'm blaming DQ8 for something that it didn't do
Okay.

>people dont explore sections of their islands for centuries
>islands are only a handful of city blocks in size

>the entire western side of the continent is forbidden under pain of death
>you can see the entire thing standing at the castle
>half the island has gone there
>king doesn't care when you point out that you went there

Honestly, the game itself makes fun of it. Its not meant to be serious.

I've no intention to, but as others have said, some find it enjoyable.

Speaking of which, any recommendations for what my initial classes I should be? I hear some say its a good idea to have Ruff max the Cleric class.

I unlocked Pirate for the Hero, Sage for Maribel, and Tamer for Ruff as soon as classes became available.

Only took me like an hour of slime grinding.

Make Maribel and Ruff clerics at some point so they both have Buff
I think Monster Masher has Kabuff later but it can't share that with other classes now. Until someone finds a monster class with Kabuff I dunno if there's a good way to get it on people.

Uncle pike told me to look for someone who is rich. I went to the richest man in the worlds 3 mansions but he wasn't at any of them

Do i need to climb the fuckign tower?

Don't you get Kabuff with sage?

Fuck leveling up luminary has sucked can't wait to get summoner and get all my spells back

Oh I might've gotten it mixed up with Kasap or something.

I think you get kabuff and kasap on monster masher too though my Gabo has them

>Have to fight the stupid pillar mimics again if you leave the tower
Well fuck, I just left to change classes since Ruff mastered his shit halfway up. I won't make that mistake twice.1

you can just jump off the stairs

So does anyone actually have an in-game comparison of the orchestra vs synth soundtrack?

What's the max level you can grind vocations on the Slime tablet? My team is Level 18 so I don't know whether I need to hard-stop and start grinding prior to continuing the game or not.

20

First DQ game having a blast. I get stuck sometimes but its never for too long. Having a great time. Is it okay if i make ruff a pirate? I think he will make a cool pirate. I renamed ruff to ruffy actually.

did they remove the well and bookshelf mimics? Im way past Dharma and I have not met any.

no

Do they let me know if i master a rank, without going back to alltrades?

yea

Go to menu > Attributes > look at how many stars you have. If they're gold (8 stars), then you have maxed a class.

He actually is a chosen one

Do I keep monster vocation skills if I switch vocations?

>Have over 40 Mini Medals
>Still no sign of anyone to trade them to

You've already missed at least one then

Thanks dudes

yep, that's the best thing about masteriing monster classes

Damn it, I really wish I'd drop hearts then, 999 slimes killed and 0 hearts.

Can somebody tell me if Gracos is still a huge faggot that can full hit the party twice in one turn?

There's one book mimic in the inn near the first casino. Haven't met well mimic yet though.

I got assfucked by some of the monsters leading up to his place

so probably yea

>be simple fisher boy from the sticks, whose only claim to fame is having fishing jesus as my dad, with muscles bigger than my head, Jesus Christ
>suddenly be called over by the king for one thing or another
Now isn't that sudden

Where's a good place to grind for a healslime heart?

I found one in a chest on the Frenchie island.

Jobs unlocked, so to level them up I should hit up the slime tablet? Party is Hero: 17, Maribel: 18, and Ruff: 16.

yeah, you can level there until someone hits level 20 if you want. also sell any extra slime hearts you get to make some easy money, but keep 5 if you want everyone to become a slime at some point.

Thanks and yeah, slime hearts are dropping like crazy.

Why is no one calling out this fucker for making the same thread for the 6-7 time?
I mean it's normal to discuss a new game, but not making a /vg/ thread on Cred Forums for the 6-7 time.

Because some of us had the last 4 or 5 threads and they hadn't stopped.

The Gracos that's in the present is 1000x times harder.

Just got vocations, how much grinding should I do in slime forest before moving on?

I'm thinking I'll just unlock one intermediate class for each person (probably Gladiator, Sage and Monster Masher) and then move on with the game. Is this a decent idea, or overkill?

None if you don't want to completely cheese the game out

>grind slimetree for a few hours, learn a fuckload of skills, then sell 99 slime hearts for almost 20,000 gold

damn it feels good to be a gangsta

Oh man, I probably shouldn't have started grinding in the slime forest. Mindless grinding kills my motivation to play the game, I've barely done anything today.

;_;

Dude what's your problem with it? We are talking about a game and you now it will be short lived. These threads will be around for 2-3 weeks tops. Better then half the shit posted on this shit board anyways. so how about you just fuck off? Filter it out

make sure you revisit the desert palace and talk to the queen she gives you some ruby and a tablet piece

Nice reading faggot.
It's not that the he made the thread, it's the way he made it. It's clearly a general which belong on /vg/.
So how about you just fuck off?

>Before re-release of DQ7
>Majority of people in Dragon Quest threads on Cred Forums hate Maribel
>After re-release
>Everyone recognizes that she was the best thing to happen to the game

What happened

it's prob OP, the dude is quite autistic

You can fix it

FUCK OFF >=)

>>=)
I thought summer was over?
Please go back to redd1t friend. you clearly don't belong here.

I still hate that bitch

Haha the bogyman ^_^

>hating Maribel
>call yourself Ron
Jesus fucking christ dude.

Get your memes straight reddit-kun

>Ron

lol lame

whatever you say, Fatso!

nice insult reddit-kun.
is that a sick burn where you come from?
