I started to play this game a lot less once the leader of the FC I joined forever ago jumped servers to Balmung around 3.2. It split the tightly knit FC into people who followed, and people who felt betrayed and are keeping it running on life support.

I still don't understand how people can play this game with a controller exclusively, you feel limited with it. Constantly swapping hotbars, you can't type and play at the same time, targeting between enemies is a nightmare unless you configure the fuck out of it, and the camera control with a analog isn't as accurate as a mouse so controller players fuck up often in fights like Nidhogg Extreme where you gotta swing your camera around to dodge his dives.

Because this isn't reddit where everything has to be a hugbox where we always have to be positive about the topic. Also talking about both the positive and negative parts of the game is enjoyable.

And no matter how much you fiddle with the settings, its still basically tab targeting. It's up there with keyboard turning in MMOs (which incidentally analog stick camera control is analogous to) as the quintessential faux pas

It's surprisingly easy honestly, and there is never a reason to type and play at the same time if you're doing combat.

I use voice chat and have that mapped to my key to talk too, there's not that much swapping and targetting enemies is easy as piss with several ways, like for enemies on the enmity list only it's just L1 + down then you also have doing the left/right for distance and that's not even including filters.

It just takes a little bit of practice. The only job that is a bitch personally is Ninja, even SMN/SCH are not a hassle.

Something drastically needs to change though for 4.0 because this extra hotbar thing won't be sufficient.

People usually call out which orange tower they are going to avoid confusion or people screwing up and wiping the group. If I were a controller player in a PF group, I would have to drop my controller and type out on my keyboard where I'm going (or use the software keyboard on PS4/PS3 which is even worse).

Of course with voice chat this would be so much easier but not everyone plays on PSN or is willing to get into voice chat.

DRK is fine. What they need to do is start designing fights where you need some reason to justify bringing a Paladin. Because right now everything just favors WAR/DRK. PLD has a ton of defensive tools but there's hardly any use for them when the other tanks can mitigate just fine and do more DPS to boot.

Drk is built around mp consumption for its maximum effect but then gets neutered for actual group tanking by restricting blood weapon, one little tweak makes it more fun and more effective

DRK already is braindead because you don't actually need to use DA as often as possible to hit max DPS. As long as you never hit max MP you're not wasting any potential DAs so you can just use DA+SE to stay below max MP (and obviously use DP and DA+CnS) and DRK becomes one of the easiest jobs in the game.

I don't have a level 60 SCH but from what I understand, SCH is all about maintaining DPS while letting Fairy do most of the healing. In harder fights you do need to heal a lot more, but if you want a more healer focused healer, WHM is your best bet. It should DPS as well but you don't have as much room to go into Cleric Stance as a SCH does.

Since we don't know what the AST buffs are right now I can't really say.

With AST you can just heal and throw buffs on party members to make up for your lack of damage.

Healer DPS is not mandatory unless you're doing early raiding progression at minimum ilvl.

As a level 60 WHM, the only DoTs you need to maintain are Aero II and Aero III. The rest of your DPS is just Stone III, Water and Assize. Aero II has a low duration so you do need to reapply it quite a bit, but Aero III has quite a long duration.

It's only 10 potency less than Stone III. It's an unnoticeable DPS loss in exchange for better MP management, which WHM desperately needs when DPSing. Can't even hit 4 minutes on a dummy with Aero I and using Assize/Shroud as often as possible, and that's without using MP on heals.

I tried PUGing NidEX last night and it was all I could do to keep the tanks alive. That fucker spams his Roar attack like a bitch, and I literally have to save Lightspeed for Akh Morn because I otherwise can't heal through it. I've started saving Expanded Boles for the ones I don't have Lightspeed off-cooldown for.

Also it seems like when I'm playing the game I have way less time to react to mechanics than other players.
eg. I watched a nidhogg guide just before fighting him and the people maked with the 4x Black AoEs had all the time in the fucking world to get to the corner of the room. They just effortlessly walked there and paused a moment before the AoE hit. But me? The marker appears on my screen, I check my mage privilege as I hit Sprint, and the fucking AoE goes out before I can get into the corner. I clench my anus every time the team doesn't stack the Evil Eyes properly because it's 50:50 shot I'm getting Panicked.

It's not unreasonable, but they're not doing it so what do they expect? Blame the devs. Not only did they add housing, but for the first 16 months there was an unlimited time you could own them even when you stopped playing, and there's no real in-game system to resell.

For now it's just more retainer ventures. You send them on missions to level them up.
