>one of the only strategy series in existance without RNG elements
>ded

Why did it have to be like this?

Days of ruin was "no fun allowed", so no one bought it. IS gets more moneys making games with waifus now.

Baby's first srpg, same with fire emblem.

I emulated this game, played through the entire tutorial, did the first mission, selected yes to save and next time I wanted to play nothing was there.
I got frustrated and haven't opened it since.

>srpg
Advance Wars has literally zero RPG elements.

As pure startegy game it's even worse.

Is your GBA emulator save type set to 'Flash 128K'? Because that will kill the ability to save. It should be 'Flash 64K'.

The franchise name is Nintendo Wars.

Was there a more despicable villain in gaming

there is minor variance in damage on every attack, and several COs in AW2 have RNG as a key feature.

you realise that if you want to play the game you only have to complete the LAST tutorial level, right? now go and enjoy the damn game and learn to save ingame and/or with states next time.

that's technically correct, but almost nobody played the home console versions, and even on the NDS it's still named advance wars for brand recognition. advance wars is fine.

>tfw still have my old copy of Advance Wars that I found outside on my school's lawn back in 2003
Feels good man

/thread

I just saw this kickstarter today for Tiny Metal. it's being billed as a spiritual successor to AW, has some japs at the helm. They have a pre-alpha demo to try, which I did

holy shit it's bad. I invite you to try it yourselves since it's free and all, but dang
>fog of war is a major part of the game
>unit movement and vision nerfed across the board
>every unit has a ranged attack, can move and fire in the same turn, range includes adjacent spaces
>instead of moving all your units at once, you get told which unit to move according to its speed, meaning you and the opponent go back and forth moving a few units at a time
>recons and tanks have 3 "armored" HP instead of 10
>no longer fixed damage proportional to your unit's HP, it seems to work on some hit % meaning you can just totally whiff
>no counter-attacks, even on adjacent units

plus some shit that I'm willing to chalk up to it being an early build, like poor controls and UI that makes it unclear what stats the enemy has or what your chances of success are. I was also unable to build anything but Infantry or Mechs (300 and 500 respectively) despite getting to over 1,500 by the time I gave up.

I also didn't see any CO power mentioned. And there's some new shit like going on Assault to force the target off their space, or Lockon to combine firepower with other units as long as the target remains in your collective ranges.

Days of Ruin actually sold better than Dual Strike, though.

And Days of Ruin was still fun, and had all the fixin's one expects of an Advance Wars game.

If they had continued down that line, I would still be happier than having NO advance wars games.

fire emblem gone to shit. it's better to end on a good note sometimes.

Someone's never played Days of Ruin

that shit was legit hard

>playing first game
>AI always attacks APCs over other units
>cheese the fuck out of it by just building APCs and artillery

shit game

To be fair, if there was an IS series that had to turn into waifu and husbando bait, AW could have done that and not suffered terribly much for it.

what a faggot opinion. Conquest was fine. Waifushit is entirely optional

also true. it would be really easy, too
>COs build relationship when you use them in tandem
>this increases the strength of their Tag, like how Eagle and Sami already had 120% power and shit
>make friendships and pairings, whatever the fuck
>naturally all optional, like the Perks and shit in DS, or even playing a game with tag COs at all
wouldn't affect a thing

Not really suited to Nintendo's current image or goals.

There was a possibility of a stripped down and further sanitized aspect of the franchise appearing in, say, Nintendoland 2.

>GOAT dead franchise
That's not Monster Rancher, fuck heads

>implying Nintendo is a kiddie company for babies
I guess you never played Splatoon

I think AW could work very well on mobile, actually. The basic game itself, or perverting the IP into a Boom Beach clone.

Sounds more like it's a spiritual successor to GB Wars 3.
ergo shit

Fire Emblem is better than its ever been.

Sorry that character design can trigger you so hard.

I would welcome a new Advance Wars with the level of reinvention Fire Emblem got. With open arms.

It's not kiddie company bullshit, it's establishing a single, concrete image.

Disney-fying their public persona by tailoring the games and imagery they put out.

>Fire Emblem is better than its ever been.

>Fire Emblem is better than its ever been.

Yeah, but only for the Conquest route (and maybe late-game Revelations).

Where is this idea coming from?

Because they haven't made a Metroid game recently, they are disney-fying their image?

Like, what is your basis for any of your statements?

>Company that got Bayonetta 2 as a console exclusive, and added her to their mascots fighting game as a guest.
>Wants a disney image

Get a load of this retard.

>Better than its ever been

AW2 challenges and the hard campaigns of AW1+2 are fucking HARD, man. it's a simple game of rock-paper-scissors-gun-artillery-boat-bomb-fuck-shit but the scenarios it gives you get fucking ruthless the further you go, and the AI positioning and unit hoarding goes nuts sometimes.

Now compare it to pc strategy games both turn based and real time.

seeing as how the best FE games were 7 and PoR, it's certainly NOT the "best its ever been".

But that doesn't mean it's bad. and I too would welcome a new AW game from modern IS.

AW has more RNG than most RTS games do. there's even a CO whose ability is to get lucky and do more damage randomly

>real time
what good would that do, you asshat? Let's compare Dark Souls against Tetris lol which is harder now lol you're a moron.

>Real Time:
dead genre. Not even SC2 gets much attention. Every new game that comes out is 100% gimmicks, or indie games with a stick up their butt instead of good gameplay.

>Turn-based:
Almost 100% Indie, but there are still some gems here. Not usually in the way of difficulty, but the games are often beautiful.

Why were we doing this?

Are you that retarded? We're talking about strategy games faggot.
>dead genre
So...like advance wars? Compare it to old games then.

Make way for best Country

>7 and PoR
7 is good if it's your first game, and for every non-jap it was.

the only challenging RTS game i can think of would be something like a skirmish match against an AI set to cheat in supreme commander. most strategy games are a lot more complex on PC, but they're rarely known for their SP difficulty.

The Advance Wars 1 advance campaign is harder than any Command & Conquer game, for a start.

Hey fellas, so I just finished FE7 this afternoon (my first FE) and loved it. Looking for advice on whether or not I should play binding blade next? Maybe Advance wars? I tried the GameCube FE but I'm a save scumming piece of shit.

Colin is the best man.

Did you play tactics ogre or final fantasy tactics on psp?

I got fed up with tactics pretty quickly, and I've never played any of the tactics ogre series. Note I am so causal I can't get past chapter 5 of Jeanne D'Arc. Yet.

Final Fantasy Tactics is one of my favorite games of all time.

Mind you, I also beat it while I was still a kid. So yeah, not the most difficult game in the world besides a few select levels that started with purposely dumb scenarios.

Tactics Ogre is good in memory.

>What is the GOAT dead franchise and why is it Advance Wars?
Close.

Though frankly AW is up there too and I lament that there will probably never be another game.

>Final Fantasy Tactics is one of my favorite games of all time.
It's too bad the PSP script is so godawful in the most unbearable kind of way though. It's like it was written by a teenage girl who thinks that making every single character speak as ornately as possible is good writing.

I hear that often. I have never played the PSP one. I played the original.

It was made so to resemble theatre plays.

Theater plays were written for the audiences of their day though, even their histories. Ever notice how Shakespeare's Julius Caesar is written with the same vocabulary and style as everything else he wrote, barring a few Latin quotations? Shakespeare also knew enough to make peasants speak less elegantly than lords.

I never played Magical Vacation though

>How do I play?

1.- Download and extract www.mediafire.com/download/35cct9gh28jc9qa/
2.- Double click mednafen.bat
or just drag and drop "aw2.gba" into "mednafen.exe"
3.- Press Alt + Shift + 1 to setup your controls. (At every unique button prompt, press the key you want to assign it to TWICE so it moves on towards the next button).
4.- To connect to an active server, press T to type /server IP PORT or /connect IP PORT
5.- So we can tell you apart, press T to type /nick YOURNICKNAME
6.- Play the fucking game.

If you join a session with people on it, ask if there's any available open spots. If so, type:

/dupe 1

to share the control. I know this is Cred Forums, but don't be a dick and take control or move other people's units when it's not your turn.

Why does Nintendo have so many good dead franchises?
>F-Zero
>AW/BW
>Metroid
etc

>Fire Emblem is better than its ever been.

go back to your waifu boards you fucking faggot

Question: is there an advance wars clone for mobile?

If not I might make one. I'm out of original ideas, sorry

Just leaving this here.

steamcommunity.com/groups/v_Advance_Wars

I'm on Cred Forums. I'm ON my waifu board.

Maybe you should go.

My nigga, the first two Timesplitters are held so dear to me.

>Insect Mutant on Chasm set to all zombie Virus

I feel like there was a big missed opportunity to have a battalion wars/advance wars game on the wiiu

Intelligent Systems have had their hands full this generation, so I don't blame them.

They aren't exactly a massive studio. They usually put out like 2-3 games per console lifespan.

Maybe they should stop making Paper Mario trash

>They aren't exactly a massive studio
They are now.

What did he mean by this?

Why do people compare Advance Wars and Fire Emblem so much anyway? They are made by the same company but Fire Emblem has very few strategy elements, its mostly RPG

Banepost someplace else, dude.

WarBits

It's not bad

Because AW is FE without the persistent units

Like what? Are you trying to tell me the campaign in SC, C&C, etc is actually difficult?

What game is there where I can be the Holy Roman Empire and conquer all of Europe?

>neoemblem fans

The old ones are still there for you to go play. Enjoy.

It always bothered me that Blue Moon was for all intents run by a pair of retired Orange Star CO's.

But that's not how you spell Panzer Dragoon.

What's the biggest mistake in the Advance Wars games? Other than meatshields making the game sluggish as fuck in PvP and the stupidly OP dual CO strikes I can't think of anything fatally wrong

the changes about scoring in DoR. the whole point about techniqute now being not building any units felt super counterintuitive. why the fuck couldnt they just kept with the usual.

Also it changed from a fun atmosphere game to an edgy one which i still view as a mistake.

In AW the AI always targets APCs
In AW2 the AI always targets infantry

you can exploit this to make the game piss easy

W-wasn't there an anime

That was the worse? Some shoddy scoring system and an AI with 1 or 2 exploits? No gameplay/gamedesign faults?

Anons, you know what to do.

strawpoll.me/11283199

>Captcha blocks DoR

Fuck off, universe. I get enough torment for liking that game best as is.

You can do it, I believe in you desu

Don't worry, I managed to get the DoR box checked.

How though?

Checked it before the captcha could load. It's like how you press the stop button on some porn sites before it can throw fullscreen ads at you.

Are there resources and unit creation in FE like there is in AW?

>set up a perfect play for next turn
>this happens

>there is minor variance in damage on every attack
really? I mean, i've studied the game really hard and i never noticed it. The damage values seem to be perfectly calculable and testable over and over again.

>not watching the CO power gauge

>>really? I mean, i've studied the game really hard and i never noticed it. The damage values seem to be perfectly calculable and testable over and over again.
Sonia ,aka worst CO only useful for breeding, has unlucky as part of her hidden skills which actually make her do less damage than normal from time to time.

i'm not the user you replied to, but no it's more like every map is a predeployed scenario.

>not picking Sonja just to watch your friend have to blindly move around and attack your "?" health units the whole game.
I loved playing as her. Just had to convince them to play with fog of war on.

And then in the sequel she got the counter attack advantages which were weird but interesting.

Nah, fire emblem has changed but its still decent. While waifus might trigger some people, the core gameplay has not dropped in quality. At least not significantly.

Confirmed never played hard mode.

You either got destroyed by the AI or have never played the game on higher difficulties (I.e War Room,)

I fucking love AW2 with all of me. One of my first GBA games and I play through it almost once a year. I JUST DL'd Duel Strike and so far the campaign is COMFY as ill get out. Especially since the last time I played AW was 2 and the graphics and sounds all hit a chord with me.

>the core gameplay has not dropped in quality
I disagree. The new games feel like they're way too engineered into forcing the player to only play the game on the hardest possible difficulties, and that every other difficulty feels lacking because of it.

And even then, the absurd difficulty in playing Lunatic Mode just completely saps any feelings of enjoyment or happiness I have. I can't even call it rewarding for its own sake, because the game will just keep piling on more bullshit as I keep going.

It's almost like a small amount of random mechanics make strategy games more enjoyable and likely to succeed

>inb4 "i am a veteran professional game designer who says that random effects ruin strategy games and i know better than any actual strategy game designer"

Oh come on, why did it have to be the night that I'm busy.

>Confirmed never played hard mode.
>You either got destroyed by the AI or have never played the game on higher difficulties (I.e War Room,)
Not to mention that the advance campaign 'Rivals!' is one of the hardest levels in any game ever made, strategy or otherwise.

you should try banner saga if you want a tactics game without any RNG

>7
Fuck no

Is it AW?

Damn, Osama. Just had to schedule his attack at the same time Advance Wars came out.

At least IS is still alive. Where there's life, there's hope.
