what type of release method do you guys like for dlc characters?

1-just release the character without fully testing and let players balance test for you. know that the character might ruin the game's balance, but assume its not an issue because you can patch it later.

2-finish the character completely before releasing. the character wont be obvious top tier on release but will fit into the game better.

Started it up, got into a match, teleporting everywhere with a person who played like there was none on their end, quit game. Good to see nothing has changed since the beta.

I would love to see at least 2 new characters per year.

As lame as it is to steal from ASSFAGGOTS, it's a much better plan than letting characters be useless until CPT finishes

Balrog is low and Alex is hot goddamn garbage. None of the DLC characters even get near top 8 and there's a reason. Urien seems like a stronger contender though, probably the same strength as Guile.

He has an amazing crouching medium that is safe on block. He has amazing mix ups and damage potential without meter, with meter he can do almost 50%. He has mix ups, over head 50, 50s and is insanely fun to play. He's at least high tier. Bet everything on it.

You gotta blow all your resources to even get close to 50% and he has shit damage without meter. He's not gonna be high tier at all. Bet your life on it.

Also literally everyone has a safe crouching medium. Urien's sucks cause he can't even cancel his cr. MK AKA the good low medium.

His crouching medium punch is better than the kick, just the fact that you can set it up into aegis or cancel it to literally anything and it is safe on block allows him to apply pressure and look for openings.

His cr. MP is decent but it's not a low so that makes it mediocre at best. Him being able to cancel it into specials would be cool if they all weren't punishable on block.

It's really not a bad option. New characters banned at tournaments isn't a new thing, and in house testing is always wrong about how a character will develop in meta

Cr. MP can be blocked high. His regular MP is already good as fuck since it now hits crouching opponents and has better range.

Not to mention most of his specials are also punishable on whiff which headbutt does a lot since it doesn't hit crouchers and has bad recovery.

I found him to be okay but his damage output on long combos is laughable.

He relies too much on V-trigger. Without it he's pretty trash. With it he's okay at best. You can never really use V-reversals with him and it doesn't help that his V-skill has long recovery and seems worthless.

All capcom has to do is say x character is banned from CPT events till patching and anyone running a CPT even follows suit and most people not probably do too.

pro tip: never listen to anyone on Cred Forums about fighting games, no one knows what they're talking about. Even I don't know what I'm talking about, but I'm not stupid enough to act like an expert on characters that have been out for less than 24 hours.

Guile has anti airs and a halfway decent fireball though and an actual invincible reversal.

I like him, but I don't like the game anymore sadly.

And his normals are all complete fucking garbage at midrange. Crouching MK is a complete joke compared to Nash's. And his sonic booms are laughably unsafe unless if done from 3/4 screen distance. And he has to spend meter for his invincible reversal.

Breach Guile's 3/4 screen safe zone and it's pretty much all over for him unless he gets a correct guess to knock you away again. The 8 frames of input lag and numerous nonsensical things you can get away with in this game don't help him either, since he's a defensive character.

All in all Guile's biggest flaw is the game itself. His stubby normals are the second biggest, and the higher recovery on booms to where throwing one is a commitment unless done from full screen is probably the third.

I really like the stage kos they added, it just shows a bit more effort being put into the game

Also lp mk hp in 3s got you a different colour, so that is a pretty neat reference

I think Urien is probably the most boring dlc character so far. And probably the most boring character in the game. And I don't mean he's bad, I just mean that his playstyle isn't interesting at all. His fireballs are good, but his v-skill is boring, his normals are what you'd expect, and his charge moves are the definition of mediocre if they aren't ex. I feel like this character is suffering from an identity crisis, because his fireballs, charge moves, v-skill, and v-trigger hardly compliment each other in a creative way.

Why didn't they change him a bit more like Alex? Alex is a better character now but Urien just feels like a meme character at this point. And STOP giving these characters shitty v-skills, Capcom. I want an interesting tool, not a temporary buff for your next attack you lazy pieces of shit.

Urien has this exact same issue in 3S and the only interesting thing about him was combos and reflector setups.

Gameplay-wise he's serviceable. Of course he's not the crazy rushdown monster from 3S anymore, but he's still overall fun. I fear he may be another low tier DLC character though.

But personally I'm much, much more disappointed in how he looks. They missed so much of what made 3S Urien cool looking.

Just to name an issue: Urien's skin. His regular skin isn't actually tan. His skin is a bit paler and his hair is actually blonde. When you see him becoming tan in 3S, it's because his skin becomes literal bronze. His entire character was a reference to Greek mythology themed statues like Riace Bronzes and The David.

All of that stuff and much else that made the character so cool in 3S has been totally retconned.

His new outfit is cool, but at the end of the day he lost much more than what he got.

At least he still looks like Urien. Alex got it even worse.

Who gives a fuck about giving your next charge move a hit of armor? A single hit? WOW COOL. It's not like Rog, Alex, Birdie, and Laura gets the same shit select ex moves. And I'd rather use the meter than break the flow of my fireball zoning or basic pressure to do a little pose for a temporary buff. At least Ibuki can charge a kunai in the middle of a combo/pressure.

And sure, it's useful to have that armor. But come the fuck on.

Sometimes Alex's V Skill is fucking awesome, other times it's not very helpful.
I think Urien's will have the same sort of deal. Will probably help out more in the long run compared to Alex.

The DLC model is like one of the few actual good things about the game. Being able to grind in-game for characters rather than having to buy new installments or expansions is fucking great.

I've already explained myself a couple times already so I don't really feel all that upset about it anymore. Just a little annoyed that dudes are assuming I want the extreme opposite of things I dislike.

If you compare it to most of everyone's v-skill being both interesting *and* useful, it's with Alex as one of the least interesting. Because while useful, you disrupt your pressure/neutral for a bit only to slightly change your playstyle. I personally wouldn't call it adding a new layer, but we'll see in the future just how much people rely on it.

What's the downside to it? You can get everything through playing the game. It's easy as shit to get enough for the first 1-2 characters even while playing casually in a really short period. It also means no more rereleases that cost money like Ultra and shit like that.

sure as hell it isn't, yeah, you can probably get the first batch of characters for free, but after that we have gone from $15 for an expansion to 30 for 6 characters.

I beat every trial, story, and the expanded story+EX mode and have enough FM to buy every character with well over 200k left over.

Throw in beating survival on easy with everyone which is piss easy and you can have a huge chunk of change for season 2

That was just ultra which took already made models and put them in sf4, at the end of the game's life cycle

Plus we have dailies now and they've said more sp content is coming. Plus now if you don't want those/all characters you don't have to spend any more money and you get the updates for free

Like if there aren't balance changes after CPT, I'd be a little concerned about the game's lifespan. I can't remember if thwre were 3 or 5 Nashes at EVO, but it was fucking ridiculous the amount of retardedly safe BnBs and light punches into super going on.

Interestingly, there wasn't a single Nash in TGS top 15.

There are about 8 characters everyone agrees to be above the rest, for a vanilla version that is good. All the mid tiers (which is the majority of the cast) can challenge them and at worst are usually 6-4s. That really is not bad balance, there are games which lastest a decent amount of time with worse. That said there is stuff that needs balanced

The fireball fucks with plenty of anti fireball moves because it can be delayed. The hitbox is also huge and he can set up offense behind the slow one.

Footsies are always a thing and if you disagree you dont know shit.
Its what makes characters like Karin and Chun so good.
