A Windows update caused some shit to make it stop working.

You need to do some shit to kill that process (look it up, you only need to do this once), and then make a .bat file with

sc start secdrv
taskkill /F /IM explorer.exe
EMPIRES2.EXE
Start explorer.exe
sc stop secdrv

And run that .bat instead of the .exe. As a bonus this often fixes the colors because explorer isn't running while the game is open.

Oh look I actually saved a .txt with how to fix that process:

>Run cmd as admin

>enter:
>sc config secdrv start= demand

>run fix.bat

Basically use that sc to fix the needed process, and then run the .bat.

Depends what you're looking for. 2 is best for balls to the walls multiplayer, mods and nostalgia. 3 is for comfy storylike gameplay, scenic battles and better graphics (although outdated by now).

2. 3 was mediocre, especially compared to age of mythology.

Age of Empires III is much better. Easier, funner, overall just superior in every way

Starcraft1 is the same.
Close Explorer and colors are fixed there as well.

1 and 2 are my favorite "Age of" games.
you can't go wrong with either.

Path finding in AoE1 is Starcraft1 tier bad though, they get stuck.

Plenty of consoles don't have backwards compatibility but your SNES will always play SNES games. Your PC upgraded and upgraded and upgraded will eventually not be able to play games it once did. And it's not as easy to go out and buy a PC from 1999 as a SNES if you wanna play the games.

Most old games that doesn't work are pre-DirectX 9 based games.
On Windows 7 you had XP Mode which ran XP natively in W7 Ultimate.
I haven't tried much in Win10, but that's nothing a good VM Ware machine with VT-d can't fix.
The only game I had trouble playing at first was Prairie Dog Hunt since it was 16-bit, but with some tinkering in Win98SE through Virtual Box and it ran as well.

Is there a difference between using and not using GR/Voobly for HD? Last time I used the in game lobby it was kinda laggy and it was a 1v1, too.

Rome 1 does not work on Windowns 10, something about not being able to run DirectX9, you have to disable anti aliasing to have computer display anything.
