I don't get why they are abandoning the Wii U? If they wanted to make a handheld I am fine with that, I think the 3DS has run its course, but why abandon the Wii U completely? There is no way the NX will be as powerful as even the Wii U, it will probably be somewhere between a PS3 and Wii U.

I mean most of those games are "good" but that lasts for an hour before you realize most of them are pretty boring children's games that aren't really made to keep you engaged for long

Mario Kart 8 is the best game in the series, but otherwise I would have to agree with you. They've done nothing but disappoint for a long ass time.

Dude, if you want to be honest, most of Nintendo's sequels in a lot of their B or C-tier franchises haven't been all that safe. Just look at Other M, Skyward Sword, Sticker Star, Metroid Prime (FF was a spinoff but still, it's the only game they've made in that franchise since MP3, like 9 years ago), Mario Party, and so on. If anything, people bitch and complain that their sequels aren't safe ENOUGH. Whether or not that's a valid criticism is up to anyone (I personally feel in some cases, it really kind of is), but didn't people bitch to Nintendo about finally making a true sequel to Star Fox 64? Don't people just want another Paper Mario that plays like TTYD? Didn't people want Mario Party to return to the classic formula? And so on.

To be fair, it's different enough from most other modern games that you can tell that a lot of what went into Other M was Sakamoto's own madness.

Sakamoto may have looked at the current market for some inspiration but at some point, he clearly said "fuck it, I'm just going to make this however I want it, audiences be damned."
