I heard recently that the atronach doesn't really do what it's supposed to do in Morrowind. ie it only blocks a certain class of spell.

well it's not exactly a compelling questline. having oblivion gates pop up like pimples all over the map is kind of annoying and the quest itself is anemic and anticlimactic.

Guys I don't know what to do. My first Elder Scrolls game was Skyrim, I bought that because I was 14 and it was popular in 2011. It took me 4 years to really get into it but that game is a lot of fun, especially with the lore.

So I tried getting into Morrowind about 5 months ago, I installed a fuckload of mods to fix it, play it for a bit, and immediately got bored. A few days ago I got Oblivion, and it was a bit more fun but I still got bored fast, this time no mods too because maybe I took too much enjoyment in installing mods to actually enjoy the game itself.

And before I even wanted Skyrim I was interested in Daggerfall, but I don't want the same shit to happen. How do I get into these older games? Force myself to play them?

go into them with a more patient mindset. morrowind isn't the same level of handholdy action that skyrim's streamlined systems and dungeons were, so if you go into it with a skyrim mindset you're setting yourself up for failure.

I played Morrowind for the first time after getting into the series with Oblivion, and I couldn't get into it until my third playthrough.
It's my favourite TES game nowadays, but I should say that if your favourite part of Skyrim were the quests you won't probably like it, it's the weakest part of the game, you should play Oblivion for that.

daggerfall and arena are really primitive, morrowind and oblivion are playable, morrowind you might need to force yourself to play until your get into the groove of it, make yourself some kind of achievable goal, like a guild you want to join, and work on that. But if you can't find some way to amuse yourself in oblivion then I don't know what to tell you.

I was real interested in seeing NPCs like the one Dwemer that also has that disease you get in Morrowind. I've read about it but just slightly, it kind of got me excited to see the story because the Dwemer are the best part of exploring Skyrim imo, the nord crypts are kind of shit
Is Daggerfall at least playable despite being primitive? I've heard that Arena aged like complete shit

Yeah Morrowind has some interesting stuff like Yagrum Bagarn here and there, if you like stuff like that I guess you might like it, but you'll have to force to play through the beginning.
In Morrowind you start as an even bigger shitter thn the other games, moreso in your first playthrough when you don't know anything at all, I'd recommend leveling up your character doing whatever and then focusing on the main quest until you get the hang of things, the main quest takes you to some of the most interesting NPCs of the vanilla game.

Go back in time and play them when they were released.

I just went to play it now and it's better than it was, for whatever reason I'm getting a lot more. Maybe I should give it time, and yeah I'm definitely putting the main quest on a hold, what about trying to figure out why the Brotherhood wants me dead?

Play vanilla and just go for it. Play whatever build you want and commit. If you're not having fun by about level 25-30 then I guess you'll have to read lore wikis if that's all you wanted from the games.

Ehh I wouldn't recommend it.
Without spoiling it, that's the beginning of the Tribunal expansion, and although you can complete it in a lore coherent way without completing the main quest first, at this point you won't get far because you'll be too overleveled.
The expansions for Morrowind are pretty hardcore, the goblins in Tribunal will fuck you up if you get there too soon and the Bloodmoon werewolves are serial killing machines, this isn't Skyrim where you can go anywhere you want from the beginning.
