Is a handgun only run possible? I just started a new game and have done handgun only all the way to the lake. Is there anywhere I could get potentially stuck? Should I change this to include grenades too?

I just finished playing it for the fourth time today and its genuinely the best third person shooter I've ever played. Only possible competition as far as I'm concerned is red dead and GTA if those even count

Is it just me or does the wii edition look godawful on a HDTV? like it's running at a significantly lower resolution than most other wii games.

Since seperate way was addition content for ps2, and with hardware limitation of ps2 and too much hassle for capcom to make it real time cutscene, thus shitty pre-rendered cutscenes. Funny, they keep releasing for each console gen yet dont want make real time cutscene.

Every time I decided to use the Red9 as my Handgun, that playthrough ended up being dropped. The gun is cursed I tell ya.

It annoys me to hell that the shooting range forces you to use specific versions of guns, and doesn't account for stock and you basically have your lasersight seizuring all over the place.

It refers to a nickname for the gun. The Mauser 96 was a pistol during WWI. Some were chambered for 9mm, so they carved a red 9 into the grip so soldiers could remember.

The fact it doesn't actually have that red 9 is kind of misleading, but at least it is the same model, since it shares the same ammo as the other 9mm pistols (but then again, the Killer7 isn't the same caliber as the Broken Butterfly, so it doesn't even really matter).

Red9's reload is shit compared to the Butterfly.

Even though I personally prefer the Red9, I consider the Blacktail just as good, but for wildly different reasons.

If you like prefer handling, quick combos, and capacity, Blacktail is your baby. If you like power and accuracy at the price of space and firing speed, Red9 is yours.

You pretty much have no reason to use the default handgun or Punisher by the island, though.

TMP really is only for panic situations or a very cost effective way to set up melee prompts. It's a waste of money, but if you can use it right you won't necessarily be stuck with buyers remorse.

I haven't played all the way through the game in quite some time, but if I'm not mistaken aren't there at least a couple parts where you NEED a sniper rifle? I could be wrong.

The Killer7 is more powerful, has a higher capacity, faster reload speed, and better handling from the get go - it takes SIX upgrades just to get it stronger than the Killer7, and that's only available two parts AFTER the Killer7 is introduced.

Even when the reload speed is fully upgraded on the Butterfly, the Killer7 is faster BY DEFAULT.

And without the expensive exclusive upgrade (that makes the level six upgrade irrelevant) for the Butterfly, the Killer7 fully upgraded (which only takes three upgrades) is more powerful. AND by the time you get the exclusive upgrade, you're nearly done with the game and have nothing to use it on.

You should be using your knife on trash, scrub.

I do, considering even completely not upgraded, the Red9 can do more damage than a unupgraded rifle with three shots (which is a perfectly acceptable trade in boss/miniboss situation, 3 pistol ammo for 1 rifle bullet).

I've never had an ammo issue with the Red9. A less than 50% chance of a critical hit against the most common enemies in the game isn't worth just doing more damage overall and being more effective across the board.

I like all the pistols except the Punisher (which is decent up until the later parts of the castle). I've done multiple runs with only the pistols, so I'm pretty goddamn familiar with how they function.

The only two bosses after the 50 upgrade are Krauser (who you should not be using the magnum on) and Saddler (who can be easily taken care of without the magnum).

It's a massive waste of shit with no payoff.

I'm thinking of an unupgraded TMP run where I kick everyone in the face. Is this a viable run?

Until you reach every enemy you can't kick.

So bosses, minibosses, enemies with armored head and legs, shit like the novistadors.

But you can almost beat the game entirely with just the knife, so literally anything is possible.

At that point I'd rather infinite rocket launcher everything in sight.

So what is the most fun pistol run? Not interested in how effective it is. Have already done the red9 and blacktail to death.

Oh boy, I get to make the bosses super easy by playing the game over again!

Oh wait, I could've done that anyway by having a fully upgraded Killer7 or just bought fucking rocket launchers because I don't have to worry about money on a NG+.

It is, there are only a couple of situations where you absolutely need something else than the knife anyway so almost every kind of run is viable.

Starter pistol only headhunter run. NG+ so heads go off like firecrackers.

Blacktail runs are boring because it's an all around good pistol. Red9 is somewhat less boring because there are certain drawbacks.

At least for a while, Handgun and Punisher runs are fun because the exclusive upgrades really make you value the benefits to otherwise normal guns.

Matilda is frustrating.

The true most fun pistol run is a non-infinite only Handcannon run.

It's fun because you can freely experiment with guns that weren't viable in a regular run. Plus all the sections that gave you problems can suck your dick.

At the very least, it lets you set up a new run where you purposefully limit yourself.

It's okay to start off with some dosh if you're just going to use it to fully upgrade a pistol or shotgun and have to make do with just that for the whole game.

its the only gun you ever need in RE4. even the 2 "forced" sniper moments can be done with the red9 with stock. the chains and the guys on the roofs. even the last battle can be done with the red 9
