96 kilobytes

>96 kilobytes

Explain this shit

a wizard did it

>about 300MB when uncompressed

even more impressive

whats its name again.

.kkrieger

Oh man, I remember reading about this when it first came out

It's just simple math functions layered in an intelligent way.

>downplaying .kkrieger

I'm 100% right.

I don't think it was downplayed so much as just explained.

Whats that 3 low res textures and a bunch of parameter data?

Its modern optimization

>Picture of the game is more than twice the size of the game itself

Truly a technical marvel.

lol

>Its modern optimization
Nope, they've been doing this shit for years

That is pretty impressive if you think about it.

Textures, models and audio literally make up 99.9% of the data in games so if you can just generate them through black magic it saves a lot. Also makes it much easier to pirate since you could just attack it to a Cred Forums .png so it will never happen with any commercial game.

You can always program most of the visual effects and geometry of a game, making the game take up way less space.
Usually though, developers prefer decreasing worktime over decreasing amount of space the game takes up.

Yep since the middle of the 00's to be exact.
I reiterate: its modern optimization.

>screenshot of the game is bigger than the game itself

You're an hour late to the punch

>mfw if I don't want to download 30 gigs of uncompressed bullshit, people tell me my internet is shitty

I remember this, shit blew my mind. At first I thought it was an elaborate joke.
>haha yeah right, this is probably like some setup that downloads the rest
>well shit, it actually works. what is this magic

And then I put it on a few of the computers at my school at the time.

Combine this with the optimized magic of shit like DMC4 and games would be toaster core forever
