YS

My first YS game. Which difficulty should I begin with? Hard? Heard anything below lacks content and fun.

Hard is the bare minimum but you should go with Nightmare because that's the correct way to play. There's also Inferno which is unlockable but it isn't much more difficult than Nightmare.

>not playing Nightmare
Lol go back to Dark Souls you casual shitbabby Trump 2016 fuck the niggers and the gays

If your first Ys isn't Ys Book I on the Turbografx, you can go fuck yourself.

Don't listen to these fucks, Nightmare is a literal nightmare. Hard is sensible.

It isn't a nightmare, practically all the boss fights can be beaten in under an hour of retries and even if you are really bad you can just grind a bit.

Hard if you want a decent challenge
Normal if you are pussy
Nightmare if you want to suffer or if you are good at vidya
Just keep in mind that bosses get extra attack patterns the harder difficulty you choose

Ys games are overrated as fuck. The bosses aren't even that good.

Just go with Normal.

Focus on having fun and learning the game instead of trying to impress randos on Cred Forums.

Besides Normal is hard enough if this is your first outing in the series.

By which standards? They're consistently top-tier and single handedly make the games.

By any standards

>boring retardedly brainless exploring/adventuring
>punctuated by dogshit bosses

I tried to enjoy Ys:OiF. Dropped it at the second boss because I realized the game was dog shit.

Epic

Are Seven and The Ark of Napishtim good too? Wanted to download them for psp.

always thought this series looked interesting
what's a good starting point?

Yes, but they are different. They feel more like proper RPG's focused on the adventure and exploration (or story in Seven's case) than linear levels and boss fights. Origin is in the same vein as Oath in Felghana except even more "gamey" so get that.

>dude Ys games are totally overrated and all bosses in these games are fucking shit
>I saw two of them

The pattern is clear. They're wannabe bullet hell games and the bosses are guaranteed to only get worse from there on out.

>first two bosses fire like 5 projectiles at most
>bullet hell
You're a Ys fan trying to shit up the thread for bumps aren't you.

youtube.com/watch?v=0fb9KLewxoI

Why are the Ys OSTs always god-tier

If the pattern was clear you would have made it farther than two bosses lmaooo

No. I'm dead serious.
>first two bosses fire like 5 projectiles at most
That's literally all they do. The first one just shot swords at me the whole time and the second one LITERALLY only has two attacks, both of which are projectiles and she spams them.

Honestly if its your first Ys game just go normal.

Dont let tryhard faggots tell you otherwise.

bump

Should I bother to play Ys 1 and 2 since they're completely different from the rest of the Ys?

How the fuck is that bullet hell then, a genre which is defined by dense, complex bullet patterns? At most it's like top down shooter bosses. Also there are many bosses with melee attacks, those bosses are intentionally made simple as introductions. One of the great things about the game is how nicely it mixes projectile attacks with melee attacks so that each boss feels distinct

>not choosing normal on first run
In a lot of games hard is not fun, it's just tedious. Now some games do do it right but I still don't see the point of making yourself suffer for a bigger e-penis.

>those bosses are intentionally made simple as introductions.
They did a really good job at introducing me to the Alt+F4 key shortcut.

Oath in Felghana is a fucking wreckage of a game.

If you're bad or normal at games that need reflexes, go with normal. If you're at least good, try hard. Don't start with nightmare.

>Now some games do do it right but I still don't see the point of making yourself suffer for a bigger e-penis.

Have you considered that some people like overcoming a challenge?

Suit yourself. I do wonder what kinda games you've been playing if Ys bosses seem bad to you, must be some really incredible shit

Not that guy but the leveling system isn't great and in my opinion the biggest flaw of the games.

2 levels can mean the difference between doing no damage and getting two-shot or absolutely steam rolling a boss. I wish the difficulty was a bit more consistent.

For the newbies, if you doing piss all damage to a boss, just level up once.

And some people like me just like playing the game for fun. Should I be shamed for playing normal by these hard mode faggots? I swear this whole "You gotta play on the hardest difficulty or you're a casual" bullshit is cancer. I do like hardmode sometimes. It was satisfying beating Dark Fact on Nightmare. Fuck that faggot.

It's really funny because I usually relish a game with some serious bossfights. I'm enjoying the fuck out of Furi for example.

Want the truth about Ys:OiF? The second boss was so painfully unfun that I have condemned the whole series. That second boss is a fucking crime against humanity. Fucking SO painful to fight. EXTREMELY boring yet it asks for like 30+ repetitions of her pattern. I might have struck with things if that second boss had been anything but total dogshit.

HEH

>Should I be shamed for playing normal by these hard mode faggots?
Yes, don't be a crybaby. And not playing harder modes is a big sign of a casual since it requires more dedication and by definition a casual is someone who does not play video games in a dedicated manner.

Someone missed the fire spell upgrade...

Nah. I've got all the upgrades and whatever the fuck else. It's still the actual worst boss ever.

EVER.

Like it belongs in a hall of fame for bad boss design.

If you like Furi you really should give Ys another chance. The second boss is easily the worst and laziest one of the bunch, all the others have much more complex, varied patterns, multiple phases and you will have more moves to deal with them too.

youtube.com/watch?v=L3t3HHU8mpU

And this isn't even a proper boss, more like a midboss.

>And some people like me just like playing the game for fun. Should I be shamed for playing normal by these hard mode faggots? I swear this whole "You gotta play on the hardest difficulty or you're a casual" bullshit is cancer.

No one even shamed you. You came into the thread yelling DON'T PLAY HARD BECAUSE I DON'T LIKE IT WHO EVEN CARES ABOUT ACHIEVING SOMETHING just to get defensive when someone mentions difficulty can make a game enjoyable.

Have fun spending twice the time on the same game having less fun while I move onto to another game, faggot.

ok I mean I love the ys games, but you do realize the boss he's talking about is pretty shitty. she just throws magic sawblades at you 90% of the time even on nightmare so all you're doing is running in a loop chucking fireballs at her

Its just a simple boss thats meant to be blown over in 2 minutes.

If you can't figure out the pattern after 2 deaths then maybe videogames aren't for you. :)

It's not about the pattern. It's about having to deal with 30+ repetitions and only being allowed three mistakes in that time.

It's not FUN.

>having less fun
Says who, are you retarded? Difficulty brings a lot of very strong emotions with it like tension, relief, excitement, frustration, satisfaction. It makes you use your head more too because you have to figure out consistent strategies and improve on them. It makes the game feel more dynamic, engaging and rewarding rather than the mindless shit easier difficulties tend to be. Just because you're a little crybaby casual bitch who cannot find enjoyment in challenge doesn't mean everyone else is too.

I've seen some of the more exciting looking bosses before. They're why I decided to try the game out in the first place.

I just have trouble trusting that the ratio of good to bad fights is better than 2 - 1

Felghana early bosses are a bit too simplistic but what the hell is with people getting triggered by the second boss, this isn't even the first time

Origin bosses are better anyways

Yeah but most bosses on nightmare are damage spongey.

It takes like 3-4 minutes on Nightmare if you play it super safe.

Honestly every boss is better than the next, and after the first 5 bosses it's pretty much consistently great. You could play Origin if you want, it has a smoother beginning than Oath in Felghana does.

>t what the hell is with people getting triggered by the second boss
That's how fundamentally SHIT that boss is. Unless you're already a fan or particularly patient or whatever, you're gonna get pretty fucking upset at that fight.

levels make a big difference in these games. Leveling up just 2 levels can help you with a boss. And leveling doesn't take long, usually takes only a few minutes for me. If you're taking 30 minutes to grind, then that's way too much. If you're still struggling then you're doing something wrong. The bosses are still hard but if you keep trying, you'll beat them.

This is exactly why I don't like you faggots. It's just a game. It's fine if you like a higher difficulty but don't shove it in everyone's face. In YS, I play doing nightmare later in each game cause I enjoy the games. But you have to admit a lot of games aren't balanced well in other difficulties.

>That's how fundamentally SHIT that boss is.

It's really not. It's not even hard and the game has been good up to that point so there are enough reasons to carry on. You haven't seen shit if you think this boss is that bad.

Casuals are poisonous to video game discussion so of course they will be shamed out of a board dedicated to video game discussion. "It's just a game" is a good excuse normally but not in this case.

Just shut the fuck up and let him play the game how he wants.

Best Ys

People who shit on other people for not playing on the hardest difficulty first up in a series they have no experience with are more poisonous to video game discussion you pathetic faggot.

nah brah

>the game has been good up to that point
Not really. The dungeons were extremely linear/simple/easy/boring.

How so? It filters out casuals and ends up making the player base more experienced and knowledgeable overall.

Not even best goddess.

>Thinks DiaReah is better

Or maybe a player shouldn't be accused of not playing the game properly if they don't pick the most brutal difficulty mode first off.

I swear Ys brings out the worst elitists.

I'm stuck on that faggot fire dragon boss on the bridge. Playing on Nightmare. Are there any tips for beating the fucking thing?

>diaReah
>better than Feenass
Pleb taste

You haven't explained how it's poisonous to discussion besides the fact that it hurts your feelings though.

It's poisonous because every single aspect of discussion about the games is just LOL GIT GUD YOU'RE NOT REALLY ENJOYING IT IF YOU PLAY ON LOWER DIFFICULTIES EVEN IF YOU ARE, even if difficulty isn't even brought up, and it happens every fucking thread. Keep your superiority complex to yourself.

>admitting you're casual
Now I can't even take your opinion seriously.

Except it isn't, what the fuck are you talking about? It only happens when fags like you get ultra defensive for no good reason. Hell there's people posting about struggling with normal in these threads, no one takes issue with them because they aren't shitting up the place by defending their more casual approach to video games or saying that people who play on a higher difficulty aren't having fun.

>beat Ys 1 on nightmare
>beat Origin on nightmare with all characters
>will never attempt a nightmare OiF run

The moth?

Its partially luck. The tile flipping is the worst part and it's random, so theres a chance it just straight up flips both rows and if your not on one of the end tiles that don't flip you just die.

That boss is really garbage cause it can take forever for him to get low to attack him and fire magic doesn't do much damage. Tip is ust be in a corner majority of the time and wait for an opening

but usually the opposite happens. It's usually the hard mode faggots that ruin discussions. They post stuff like this A lot of it is shitposting and trolling but I've seen times when tons of faggots just spam posts like these and it gets kind of annoying. I usually ignore them, I just get tired of reading them after a while.

You don't have to die, you can dodge his attacks while staying on one of the sides. I forget how exactly but probably just by a simple whirlwind jump. The key to beating him is patience in general. If he flips the tiles in an annoying way just sit it out.

>an obvious shitpost with no replies
Yeah wow the conversation's in ruins fucking "hardcore" faggots ruining another thread unbelievable

It's simple. If you don't play it on Nightmare, you aren't a man.

Begin with the delete option. It's shit. Seriously.

Hard is challenging enough to me. Nightmare is just frustrating.

So I have to keep waiting? How can I get him to shoot the row of tiles that I'm on sp I can get up to him and attack? It seems he deliberately shoots the other row to spite me.

I beat the game in normal, hard and nightmare
I just thought normal was too easy and the patterns were easy to dodge and that hard was the perfect difficulty level
I never intended to shitpost

You can't. It's random

The fact that posts like these don't get replies but me saying normal is best gets angry replies shows how cancerous hard mode faggots are though. I'm never bringing this up in a thread of a game I like again. Usually in YS threads, I just post how I like the games and sometimes try to give advice. You can argue with other anons if you want, but I'm done.

You can attack him without being on the tiles, just use the whirlwind skill as you're jumping and you will hit him. It won't do much damage but it's a less dangerous way.

Difference is that you were serious, and the response you got was reasonable until you decided to sperg out. Don't post that shit in my threads ever again.

Oath in foogledoogle was my first ys game and I started on hard. It was very fulfilling and challenging. Many bosses were difficult enough that I had to die to them in the double digits before finally getting good enough to beat them. Would highly recommend, and would recommend an inferno playthough after.

VI is okay except it has some annoying dash jumping parts if you want to 100% it that'll make you never want to play it again.

>my thread

I had loads of trouble with this game even on normal. That fucking Ice Dragon boss kept 3-shotting me.

Gildias is horribly designed.

Hard.

Nightmare will make you want to die on your first playthrough.

You can choose normal if you're a big baby. Anything below that and you deserve to be hung at the gallows.

You can pretty much lock him into constantly falling down cmon user

That grab attack tho. I always get caught by it.

no.

If you want all the steam achievements you have to play on all difficulty levels anyway, since playing at the harder difficulties doesn't count for some of them like the escorting ones.

This was my first Ys game as well, I played it on Normal and it was pretty tough but very doable. The game is great, you'll have a blast

Yeah the hitboxes and attack animations are janky as shit in that fight but at least it isn't hard to avoid/break the cliffs if he grabs you

Best boss and song
Fight me

How about you start on the first game.

because the first two games play absolutely nothing like Ys III and beyond.

It's actually reasonable to skip Ys I and II. Bumper Cars combat is pretty fucking terrible and isn't very fun.

That said you do miss out on things that are referred to in the other games particularly Ys Origin.

But it can be worth it if you're not at all interested in bumper car gameplay.

Which ones are worth playing? I've played Origins and Oath. Couldn't get into Ark

Ys 1 is worth playing just to get to Ys 2 which is a really fun game thanks to the spells. Also I think the first game has the best atmosphere in the series, really feels like you're on an adventure solving ancient mysteries and shit which the other games lacked outside of maybe Napishtim.

Ys VIII is GOTY.

The gameplay itself is atrocious in both games.

There's nothing atrocious about it, it's just overly simple. Or are you one of those memers that thinks the bump combat is somehow inherently bad? The boss designs in Ys 1 are really lazy but Ys 2 has decent boss fights. Also I guess the grinding could be a turn off but it's a classic RPG that just comes with the territory not to mention it's very minimal in the remakes.

I liked it. Thought I wouldn't before I tried it. Only problem is Dark Fact is a dick.

fuck you

The levelling system basically ruins the game for me. I beat the first two bosses at the lowest level on nightmare, but I cannot beat the third boss without levelling even on hard. But if I do decide to level up, I can beat him without any difficulty on nightmare.
You'd think it wouldn't have to include grinding on random enemies to manually set the difficulty level.

Yeah, thank god for time attack at least.

...

Falcom Gakuen The 3rd when?

I don't know if the series gets better, but this game, Origin, and 6 are overrated as fuck. The only thing going for them are the boss fights as the rest of the game is mindless button mashing. Why play this when you can play Devil May Cry instead?

Because Devil May Cry outside of the first one is also mindless button mashing except with worse boss fights to boot

It is awful. Ys2 you will find yourself pushing enemies across multiple screens before actually killing them.

Use magic you donut

Should I play the pc games with a controller or keyboard?

Any is fine.

And what's the game to start with? My pc is shitty

>he doesn't play all his games on the hardest difficulty available at the start

what the fuck

A toaster can run Chronicles, Oath and Origin perfectly.

I dunno about Ark, though.

I'm not going to use magic for every single mob in shrine of solomon and not have it for the bosses (which actually require magic)

Magic doesn't drain during boss fights

>he wants 0 replay value out of games he bought

what the fuck

It's always best to start with normal for first playthrough, then go through harder difficulties on subsequent playthroughs. Once you've finished on the hardest difficulty.. there's really nothing left to do with the game.

Why start with normal then? Just start with very easy if replaying game is so important to you no matter how mindless it is

>he replays games

holy fuck are people really this retarded? do you watch movies more than once too?

Holy shit, this bitch is really overcompensating with that fuck as fuck uber push up for her tiny chestistcles.

And those fucking freakishly shaved eyebrows. Ugh. Disgusting internet attention whore.

Also your posts are fucking stupid
