Rising Thunder was literally just a SF4 reskin with metal skinned humans.

RT's designs were basically famous mechs mixed together.

Pretty much the main focus of mecha games is the appealing designs. If you can't enjoy those games for that in first place then it's not a good game for you.
Take for example G Generation and Super Robot Wars, the gameplay is like basic strategy games but the best thing about them are the animations and variety of units.
