I pirated it.

No regret.

>Vilage Elder smashes the stone tablet that proved the whole village was a bunch of lying faggots

i didn't pirate

casino a best.

fire claws for everyone

Never played a DQ game before. I wish u wasn't so broke so I could try the game out. Oh well.

Not video games. Fuck off.

Aishe/Aira best girl Maribel can go suck it.

You should be able to emulate all of them besides the 3DS remake of 7 easily enough

I didnt pirate, though I am a pirate (thin air a best). Currently on the flooded city area and then grinding paladin levels for ruff so he can be a Champ.

Why is Goku dressed as a pirate?

Is there a reason for having many monster hearts? I have like 7 slime hearts.

Also, I hear people talk about something like mastering monster classes before hitting level 20? What's the reason for that?

Even if he did, it seemed like everyone already knew the truth. Everybody. The luka-clone's father said that the next generation (the kids) would probably not uphold the tradition of being filthy Russian liars, so all is good.

so because your fucking disgusting fat ass didn't want to spend 40 measly fucking burger tickets on this fucking game, the rest of us won't be able to enjoy future DQ releases. I hope you realize how miserable you really are, because even in this small situation you can't give a rats ass about how it affects the world around your lonely lard ass body. You act so high and mighty, expecting everything to be free because of some stupid fucking doctrine that you follow, but in the end, you're fucking garbage. Commit it to fucking memory you pile of shit, waste of humans like you deserve fucking nothing short of getting raped, humiliated and thrown into a fucking prison where you can truly understand your position as a thief, a selfish animal. You're nothing, and you will never be anything more than garbage, be sure to remember it.

Waiting on my credit card to roll over to next month before I buy. Hope to buy it some time next week.

Any advice for playing when I finally get it?

Yeah I know, but still.
Just bugs me that everyone stood around and let it happen.

At least Merv dishes out a sick burn towards the village elder if you check the party chat after.

Yep, bought it. This is my first DQ and I love the amount of effort they put in dialogues, party chat is brilliant.
18 hours in.

Collaboration with One Piece.

Having a basic heart can lead to advanced hearts. I would recommend each party member eventually learning a monster job or several because they can carry over some great skills and also have a stat bonus for mastering. For late game though.

Okay

Samefags gotta same.

Don't give any seeds to Kiefer

>Maribel
>Troubadour Rank 3 - Bedroom Jammer

Problem is, is there any guide yet for which Monster Hearts give what? I was hoping Notso Macho would give Oomph but apparently it doesn't, which sucks.

I fucking recruited at least 4 monsters and none of them are at the haven, what in gods name is happening?

I think you're that poster from before, there is a guide that has which monster hearts give what but it's based on the last localization.

you may find this helpful

I pirated it but bought a few days after because I felt bad[/spoiler

Is there anything better than Thin Air? It's too good.

Oh shit, I've basically given them all to him. Why? Does he leave the party eventually?

Yes.

Permanently

Scorch

But yeah having Thin Air as a free attack on as many party members as you want is pretty nuts. Like at least in DQ8 it cost 2MP and you had to commit to going pretty far down Fistcuffs, usually only Yangus would have the points to spare because besides Axes and the first half of Humanity his skills were pretty garbage.

Yes
Don't worry too much, the game gives you an asston of seeds compared to most DQs. Especially if you have someone as a Thief or Pirate for a while, you end up stealing a ton of extra ones after battles.

He leaves permanently, IIRC the seeds he is given is sent to his descendant

thin air also only did about 40-60 damage in that while in this one it's easily 100+ for no cost.

thin air was still amazing in DQ8 regardless

I did. I have $80 to live on for the month after rent and bills. I'll buy it when its on sale or I'm in a better position.

What the fuuuuuuck that makes me not even want to play any more. Not because I gave him all my seeds but because that's my fucking boy dude

Goddamn prologue.

...

He ditches you for a woman too.

Doesn't even say goodbye to his dad or sister.

I know that in 6 Thin Air and Wind Sickles scaled with level, I thought it would here and in 8 too.

It's a lot less noticeable. It seems to scale more with physical attack. wind sickles on maribel tends to do about 70 while with ruff it's more like 85

How grindy is DQVII? I played DQI (Finished it), DQIV and V(Dropped because to grindy), and DQVIII(Working on it now, kinda grindy).

I don't mind frequent random encounters if it they are either stupidly quick or are more interesting then attack/attack/attack/win. I grew bored of most FF games this reason, but SMT still hooks me in.

I heard you have to have two of certain monster hearts to unlock some monster classes. Is that true? And apparently the guy who lets you actually use monster meadows is at the next to last island? Please tell me the game isn't mostly over at that point....

nice copyposta, don't be surprised if SE goes full retard despite selling out everywhere. Maybe in a few years they'll be making pachinko machines.

>must be learned from Evil Turtle (Jawtoise)
>mfw got that heart from a chest a while ago

>dropped 5 because it was too grindy

nigga it has the best level curve of the series and that's not really a contest. and DQ is far more SMT than FF is. Skills are live by or die by.

VII is as grindy as your planning is. If you plan right you'll always have the skills you need to win. If you don't then you're going to have a bad time.

Well there goes my big bro... I'm gonna try my best to enjoy his company while I can.

I'm in Providence, after the demons attacked, I went back to town, where Caleb dropped the Priest's key and the Goddess's scroll. I don't understand the clue. So I climbed like 2 times again the mountain but all the cave does is heal my wounds.

What am I even supposed to be doing with hearts? I'm not very far in the game I just got Ruff, but I have two kingfuschia hearts and I don't know how to use them.

Thin Air does scale with level in 8. Started doing 50 damage when I got it on Yangus last time I played, last time I continued on that file it was doing 80 damage.

When you can change jobs you use them to become monster classes to learn monster skills.

If a party member has them in their personal inventory they can transform into that monster. Monster classes act like basic jobs and you can retain their learned spells/skills with any human job you take.

So these are great in this game because there are a lot of spells/abilities monster classes have that are locked behind a particularly human job.

Healslime for instance has multiheal which means you dont have to rely on sage/paladin classes to have everyone heal up.

>V(Dropped because to grindy)
Dude what
The only time you should ever have to grind in 5 is for the post-game bonus boss. You can even tear through the dungeon leading up to him with relative ease just by playing normally.

Were you running from every single non-mandatory fight or something?

I miss having a Pirate in my party, all that extra stolen shit was a nice source of gold and sometimes seeds.

Oh well, off to bigger and better things like Hero and Champion. I can always go back to a Pirate for a while if I need to make some cash.

Shit, if you were lucky enough to recruit a metal slime or liquid metal estark cant do shit to them besides like 1 damage every so often.

Shit where do you get the DLC? I heard here that there is free timed DLC that ends on the 30th. I've just finished Alltrades abbey and haven't done much with the haven.

you need 3 recruits to get the download bar.

Hmm wasn't what I recall but that was close to 4+ years ago. Even VIII right now feels like its combat is mindless. The idea that I could be recruiting monsters and have a class system interests me, because I enjoy the 'purity' of DQs style and design. Would you still recommend VII or should I maybe give V another shot?

How far in the story do you have to be for the chef to show up?

What does "style" do?

>Druid learns hustle dance
I nearly started crying, I'm so glad to have it back.

>Cumulus Vex took three Blades of Ultimate Power to the face and still took a while after to finally kill

Seems like bosses are getting tougher again, he nearly got me with his Thin Air spam

Wins the style contest. Yes that is it.

Not that far if I remember right. Check the gamefaqs link posted in this thread.

Pirated it. Shitty games deserve it.

8 is about 5 tier in difficulty and I would argue a bit more mindless because it takes a while for skills to truly mean something.

VII is a celebration of everything that made the series what it is. While the first 20 hours is indeed attack/attack/attack/heal. the rest relies on jobs acquisition and skills associated with those jobs. Besides the first 2 dragon quests, you should never be grinding for experience, Equipment and skills are far more important.

But a copy isn't a lost sale :^)

>beat game
>go to hotspring in Emberdale
>dude and the Chick are in the water together; the guy is laying back while the girl is in front of him on her knees
I decided to visit at the wrong time.

if everyone pirates it, neet losers won't get a localized release next game.
Enjoy ff you fat beta cucks

But that didn't happen and is sold out at most retailers and amazon is backordered till mid october.

Sorry buddy. :^)

I didn't have too much trouble with my party, just had Merv spam Multiheal while everyone else attacked.

I can't stop laughing.

You'll never get X without us.

Just wait till you visit the present.

At this point I don't think we're getting X, period

>smt localized their mmo
>dragon quest won't
Make way for the better series.

Wasn't that game widely regarded as shit even among fans of SMT and MMOs

Wasn't the SMT MMO a massively jewish pile of garbage though?

Now now, it's a false flag. Don't be baited so easily.

Wouldn't know, I'm just a shitposter.

Is it worth it ?

It never is.

Whats the best Vocation grinding spot post level 20?

Any dlc tablet.

No, it's the greatest walking simulator ever created.

The DLC tablets are basically any of the tablets SQEX has up right?

Yes. It's 100 hours long, a great classic RPG and even if you don't like it, it'll sell for a decent profit in a few years. Even more if you wait longer.

Yes. they all have job classes unlocked regardless of level. However, the best in terms of regular xp is treasure hunt.

I want to recruit a liquid metal slime, how do I get them to not run away? I know the regular ones could be sent to sleep, but these assholes don't seem cooperative.

>50+ hours into the game
>Still haven't used a Prayer Ring once
>Still have all 5 prayer rings in the game so far because I haven't used them a single time

>wow that Hybris was sure a tough boss! I hope nothing happens to our party formation

FUCK

If you're not too far past level 20, DrakSlime is the next best dungeon if you don't want to gain too much exp and still has simple enough fights

you could try a puff puff(learned from jester) it works on metal class enemies and could get them to stay a turn. Meteorite bracers also help in an attempt to out-speed them.

you want a fuckin' cookie or something?

Good on you my man. They aren't really required anyway. The final boss and the toughest boss in the game heal you fully before a battle.

The male version doesn't stop people though, Maribel is out of the party right now and Aisha isn't a jester. Guess I'll keep it in mind though.

>finished DQI
>found DQIV and DQV too grindy
What the fuck?

He's literally an idiot.

I just remember using em a bunch in 5 and 8
I guess the nature of the tiny islands means that you're never too far from an inn when you need it, I've barely used any Magic Water too.

All of the best random encounter wiping moves being free helps too.

So then why would justify pirating a game as good as DQVII?

>tfw you will never have beautiful children with Deborah
I really like V.

I still haven't used the three yggrasil leaves I got under AllTrades Abbey. About to fight Gracos and its only now that the game has gotten remotely hard. And by hard, I mean actually having to heal in between battles.

Am I supposed to play this with a guy or just get to it?

How cryptic is it? I never played a DQ game.

tfw no alchemy and clothing customization

I had to use a few fighting the Bandits outside of Alltrades

And I wasted one on the unwinnable fight against the Tiger + Pig

9 spoiled a lot of people who gave it a real fighting chance. Though shields and weapons do change.

play it with your best friend if they have good taste

>Maribel complaining about how we kept doing people's errands instead of fighting monsters like we're supposed to

Guess she prefers monster-infested shithole islands then

a long road ahead but i just need mage armentalist and gladiator and then i can get hero, i already have paladin.

technically that one is winable too. You'd just have to be the grinding master. There's only one real unwinnable fight (i.e. counts as a battle on your attributes>all)

That sucks. But I already played the PS1 game so I was ready for that. I actually think the game is easy because I played the PS1 version. So I'm purposefully grinding in anticipation for the hard spots. The hard spots are just easier than they were in the PS1 game so my grinding ends up being overkill.

At first I was doing fine against those faggots so I thought it was winnable, but then the Tiger decided to do like three desperate attacks in a row.

>don't be surprised if SE goes full retard despite selling out everywhere
Has it really been selling that well?

Though, as people have been saying for a while, it's not a sales issue and has never been. While not as popular as Final Fantasy, DQ has always done well in the west and would do much better if SE cared to advertise it.

It really feels like xenophobia, like they consider DQ to be a "japanese thing" and don't think westerners should get to participate.

Which is ironic because as far as themes and designs DQ feels like the most Western-inspired JRPG series

>the atrocious translation for 3DS DQ7 as opposed to PS1 DQ7

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Are there really people who don't like the accents and puns? It gives the series more charm imo

I'm starting to wonder if it really is since the composer is some kind of Japanese chauvinist who believes the rape of nanking didn't happen.

>he really thinks the ps1 translation is good

HahahahhahahahahHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Certainly they did good for what they had to work with, but by no means was it accurate either. You're favorite goto, aka slut, was added in on a translators whim and had no bearing on the original script.

The earliest games were essentially japanese Ultima clones.

>Implying the PS1 translation was good in the first place
Dude, seriously, there weren't any RPGs in that era that actually got a decent translation. Everything was either rushed or just incompetent.

so is Heroes any good? Might get it if it goes on sale

Oh reight, user, lemme in on a 'lil sekret. There's naughting wrong with accents and dey give more cherm to the characters.

Well it was intended as a more accessible version of the Wizardry games

It's a musou.
Do you like musous?

I read that in Hagrid's voice from Dirty Potter

HEROES 2 WHEN

As an italian guy, I don't give an everlasting fuck. We never got the ps1 game in EU and now not only it arrived in EU but it's also translated in PAL5. So fuck that noise, I am thankful I am playing the game in my native language. Especially after some SE games arrived here in english only, like Final Fantasy Explorers and KH DDD.

Earthbound's translation was amazing, unfortunate it blew up in their faces.

>that loli almost got roasted for misfiring her fire spell

Telling a little girl to cast magic like that is like giving them guns.

It's decent enough once they calm down on the tower defense-ish stages.
I hope the sequel comes out over here.

so we're talking "hackspam the crowd" or is there any depth

is there a difference when doing underpants dance as a female character?

>Maribel left the party

welp

im going to assume she'll be massively under leveled by the time she returns?

Well it's a musou

I was talking PS1 era, stuff like Wild Arms and FF7, but yeah I guess those weren't too far apart.

Earthbound's marketing is what really sucked. I'd hope whoever was behind that "This game stinks!" campaign got canned.

depends. I was at like 38-36 (they were like five levels lower when they got the option to return. Again, it's all about how you planned your party.

I bought a copy. Haven't had a chacne to play it as I'm finishing a few other DS titles, but I can't wait to play it

>It's a musou.
Not exactly

Seriously are me and my cousins the only people on the planet who played this shit?

is the only healslime heart the one that was in that chest?

EB's translation was very loose and filled with jokes not present in the original script. It is great though but let's be honest, if that translation was made today for any game, people would start shitting on it non stop and screaming "censorship".

This game was great

they drop infrequently from them in the regular game, but if you have them in a tablet, drop them more often. it's still a random chance though.

>as good as DQVII?
That is a low bar you set for good. I call it by a pet name.
Shit.

Go to the monster meadows and take the monster munchies off the table and they (along with any other monster with a heart) can drop it

So
I got the Angel's Tears from the man in the German village that was turned to stone, but what now? There's supposed to be a fragment somewhere in there, but I can't find it.

>pick a monster vocation
>they become that monster in battle

Why would this not carry over to the overworld?

I hope we get my DQ Heroes 2. I am always grateful for more DQ

The monster models don't have animations for cutscenes, I assume

It does, just not in dungeons and towns

Shit, are those things rare? I used my first one to see what it does and it broke. Did I go full retard?

but it does, as long as you aren't in an area where you can talk to people

it just restores mp, nothing too special

They restore MP, with a chance to break on use. Usually you can buy more in the Casino but otherwise they're rare as fuck.

The composer doesn't like to admit that Japanese soldiers raped people in World War II. But that has nothing to do with all these conspiracy theories on Cred Forums about him blocking the music. Which are mostly being pushed by one guy who has yet to come up with any creditable source for it.

Besides, if Sugiyama wanted to block the music, he would have never allowed the PS2 version of DQVIII to get it. The fact that the PS2 game had orchestrated music but the 3DS version won't points to someone in the localization team, not Sugiyama. Sugiyama gets paid the same wither its the synth or orchestrated version. As can be seen with the 3DS release which used both synth and orchestrated music.

How do I get good at gambling? Savescumming takes too long.

Has anyone actually gotten 77777 on the slot and ascended to Token God status, or does everyone just savescum and slowly amass tokens through 777s like me?

>Earthbound's translation was amazing
What? I like that game, but it had plenty of problems. Mostly limited characters and bad flow. Just like the DQ games at the time.

>Savescumming takes too long.
No it doesn't, just home menu out and boot the game back up.
Savescum harder

ENTIRE PARTY OF CLOWNS

damn. im going to have to grind so Mervyn can master some jobs since he's pretty useless as is

You have to savescum until you get up to about 5,000 tokens. Then with that big of a cushion, you can just keep rolling until you hit bars or 7s.

I got 77777 in DQV on a max bet in a 100 token machine, never needed to gamble again after that.

In DQVIII the roulette is the fastest way to make money, bet as much as you can on 1/3rd of the board and savescum if you don't win.

Apparently they replaced the orchestral music for us because in the Japanese versions it didn't loop properly, something that a lot of Japanese players complained about because it sounded bad, and apparently remaking the entire OST was easier than fixing the looping

The quicksave doesn't actually get deleted, dunno if it's a bug but it makes savescumming faster.

I should specify, I only have enough dosh for 3 goes at the 10 coin slot so it takes longer than it should.

Just do the 1 coin machines until you have like 2000 or so

I'm a bit annoyed at te accents myself, especially the more outlandish barely comprehensible ones, but overall I'm really liking 7. My only other complaint it keeping to the archaic saving system for no discernable reason beyond keeping things the same. Handheld games should be able to be saved whenever, and if we really have to suspend the game for a quicksave, which isn't even erased when we resume it, it should go to the title instead of forcing me to reset the game.

Is that how people here do it? I usually reload if I don't get 777 within spending 2000 gold, because otherwise the profit margin isn't even that big. 7777, 77777 and bars are way too unreliable to shoot for IMO.

On my first run of Dragon Quest V, I got a whole row of 7s after less than an hour. Then, playing the game two more times, plus Dragon Quest IV and VI, I never repeated it.

So far, the best I've done in this game is three 7s. But it only took about 2 hours thanks to them removing the annoying 'how to play' reminder after every roll. That killed the DS games.

Fucking bring back roulette and parcheesi in Dragon Quest XI armor project!

>Every door in the game is so short that most adult character's heads just clip through the top during cutscenes
I don't know why this bugs me as much as it does

Okay fair point, I feel like that would of taken longer.

I just keep going until I get 1-2k above my starting total. So say I start with 5,000 tokens. If I hit something big like 4 watermelons and it brings my total to 7,000 tokens, I quit and save. But if I'm ever below 5,000 tokens, I just keep playing.

put ruff in the front of your party

Finally, a shed of light upon all this story.
And I agree. Keep midis for the game. Keep orchestrated soundracks on CDs and mp3 players.

I have a bigger problem with the annoying hitboxes on objects. Especially doors. Most DQ games have triangle boxes that allow a character to naturally slide into doors. But this game has flat square hitboxes so your character clips the door frame every time.

Speaking of slots, what are the blue things supposed to be?

Well getting someone on Squeenix's music staff to remake the songs during their lunch break was probably easier than dragging an entire orchestra in to fix a couple of songs.

I want them to localize the remakes of dragon quest monsters

>Every baby born in this town for the past 5 years turns into a monster on the first full moon and attacks their parents

bump

welcome to baltimore

Someone remind me how the hell this game got an E10 rating? Did the ESRB fall asleep halfway through the "This is all the shit in the game that might be inappropriate for babbies?" reel that the devs have to send in?

Did you go to sleep in the tavern?

Find the tree that is by itself near the cliff side. you should find a secret staircase right next to it.

How is that content questionable?

Babies turn into monsters is not an esrb descriptor.

Go to the info option in your menu, there will be a "next fragment" option that gives you a hint.

What the fuck did launch return in super?

OI, I GAVE ME BABBY THIS DRWAGON QUEST GAME AND 'E BIT MY TIT OFF

are videogames making babies violent? more news at 10

...

The ESRB is a joke. Developers just send them a tape with examples of 'offensive material'. But offensive material is categorized as violence, language, sexual content, nudity or references to drugs/alcohol. Aside from a couple sexual innuendos, this game doesn't have any of those things. So the tape was probably 5 minutes of funny Pike dialogue and a few references to alcohol. And probably got an E10 rating just for the alcohol. While the actual games content is way beyond a 10 year olds understanding.

If this game had a dark, gritty color design and some swear words, it probably would have gotten Teen. But just revel in the fact that the system is stupid and a Japanese developer once again tricked them.

What's bad about it, you can support your argument right? (:

>mfw the mayor forcing her maid to dress like a sexy bunny
>mfw I saw a priest spying on a nun that was dressing up in her room
Damn

I never knew amerifats got triggered by orchestral music, this is hilarious! Makes sense considering they dont have a single good orchestral composer

The ESRB is shitty on purpose.
It was made so the vidya industry could regulate themselves and not have everything banned.
If it wasn't made then the government would step in and rate everything and then it'd be like Australia.

So, I'm planning to make Hero a Hero class, Maribel will be a sage, and I'm not sure what to do with Gabb and Aira. Any suggestions? I also don't know if Sage is far enough in the job system to be done with a character. I'm just not sure what else I can do with her with minimal grinding.

>Dragon Quest VII get an E10 rating for some alcohol, but the story is fucked up as hell
>Dragon Quest VIII gets a Teen rating because you can see Jesica's tits, but otherwise is pretty tame aside from the sages getting killed

Lieberman would be proud.

>game has a girl in it
Australia bans it.

>That guy at the roamer camp spying on the dancer inside the tent

Didn't DQ8 originally come out before the E10 rating was a thing?

But yeah I could see it still getting rated T.

Why do people pretend Dragon Quest games aren't bad?

>Game makes a big deal out of The Great Leveler spell
>Paladins can do the same thing at no cost

>mfw I saw a priest spying on a nun that was dressing up in her room
I think there's actually an example of that in nearly every DQ game. There's even an NPC spying on girls in the bath in the first DQ game. And that same town has the puff puff girl.

Dragon Quest is made by dirty old men. And that's why its great.

>Game hypes Mervyn up
>Has no vocations mastered, you get him at lv19 and has only a couple of abilities and spells.

Some of his party chat when you first get him has him insisting he hasn't gotten rusty despite being sealed away for centuries
He's probably lying

Is it odd that Rebecca's 3DS Bunny Outfit was more revealing than the PS2?

>Rebecca
Who?

as someone who greatly enjoyed rocket slime and joker as his only exposure to DQ, would I enjoy this?

>dirty old men
I actually find the 'perversion' in DQ games to be rather classy compared to the blatant fanservice, pantyshots and such in more recent japanese media.

Feels like it comes from a time when women were less overtly sexual, if that makes any sense.

>mfw Nottagen

not again

Probably
If you want some monster recruiting still you could play V, most of your party will be filled in by monsters for most of the game.

DQ are very traditional JRPGs, Rocket Slime and Joker are pretty different
Try DQ3 or DQ5 first, see if you like those.

An hour of gambling later on the 1 coin machine and i've only made 150 coins

Should I just kneck myself?

>recruiting metals in Joker

Is it possible to beat Strom the first time? I took out the two shitters, but then he went ballistic.

I think its just because Yuji Horii knows how to appeal to general audiences. Toriyama is pretty blatant about his perversion in his stories, but Yuji Horii is able to take that and make it less on the nose. Horii is able to basically take a classless joke and give it meaning through NPC interaction and sometimes even a major story point.

Its also just a good way to break the ice. You're in the middle of a town where everyone is frozen into stone. And yet, there's one girl who is undressing. It makes it so there's a bit of comedy in an otherwise overly dramatic scene.

damn, i was going to pick this game up on a whim next to apocalypse, but I didn't
i'll pick it up next time, thanks

>recruiting LMS in DQV

Was so worth getting him though.

has Maribel grew on anyone else?

i fucking hated her when i started the game now i want to fuck her help

>the metal slime garden where you only had 3 minutes in
>the fucking metal slime king
was it even possible to scout that fuck?

Doing a run of all the poke a mom games first. On the 6th Gen finally.

That's generally how good Tsundere's work.

>If you died, I suppose I'd let you follow me around.
>Hey, you're SUPPOSE to say thank you!

If you crit them you break the 1% per hit
Using a multi hit monster, I used Demon-at-arms, means you hit it a couple of times.
I usually wait a round buffing and then attack, if they run on the first turn they run.

What's the best way to make money?

Why Goku is cheating Chichi with a soulless ginger?

Maribel is great

>DQMJ2: Pro localized NEVER EVER

If I was the Hero I'd be taking her on a one way trip to the bone zone once all this world saving is finished

>was it even possible to scout that fuck?
With crits, if you're lucky
Wasn't there a skill set you could get on your monsters specifically meant to fuck up Metal Slime? I think it gave you an increased crit chance, agility, Metal Slash, and some other shit.

Or just catch eight regular Metal Slimes and fuse em all together

>Once all this world saving is finished
>Not plowing her every night until she becomes impregnated and then ditching her in a village to have your child only to return years later victorious and having her leap into your arms crying tears of joy at finally seeing your stupid face return

Female protagonist when?

>Start gambling without looking at the prizes
>Most of them are just sort of okay

Well fuck, are their other casinos or does the inventory update? Or do I just buy the expensive shit and sell it?

>then ditching her in a village
That's an awful plan
>Not saving the world with your future waifu at your side

You could use the slime specific weapon types, but not the metal ones iirc.
The sledgehammer all attack boosted with multi-hitting team members was solid.

weapons that target multiple enemes, never deals critical hits, do they?

I'm talking female only, not some optional thing where you can choose to be a girl but 95% of the marketing and references all use the male hero.

Is it worth buying two edged boomerangs and maribel's leather whip? I'm not going to find one 10 minutes later in a chest, right? Shits expensive/

Whoops I meant Jessica, sorry I had One Piece on my mind and kept reminding myself that Rebecca was the worst character in the manga.

Buy those. In a few hours you'll be thanking us for telling you to do so.

You can go back to your house and sleep with Maribel any time you want.

I love dragon quest 5

>all the music stops

Its quiet...too quiet....

It's a better plan than having her turned into a statue for years.

leather whips can be won at the card game at the casino on the alltrades island, but I don't recall ever getting any edged boomerangs in chests

Yeah, I just got burned last town buying stuff. Upgrade time it is

>get to alltrades
>wait a minute... the main theme isn't playing

Luminary isn't all bad, Gritty Ditty, Hustle Dance, Harvest Moon, and Pyre o' Fire are good. Plus an extra emergency Kerplunk. Guess I'll find out what the last skill it gets is soon.

But user, that's why I'm bringing Aishe to the final battle.

I don't know what to feel about Aishe yet
She's been tagging along for two whole islands now but the only time she's ever really had any personality was if you do the party chat in the past of the desert island, she asks if Hadid is handsome.

She joins so abruptly it feels like the devs just felt bad about taking away one of your party members.

As someone who enjoyed the hell out of 9, will 7 be just as good?

When do I get Maribel back on the team? And how do I get the mysterious fragment in the dwarves cave?

I say, I enjoy DQIX more but DQVII isn't that bad.

>She joins so abruptly it feels like the devs just felt bad about taking away one of your party members.
It feels more like the developers forced Maribel to leave to shoe-horn Aria in. But then, Aria felt like an excuse to make you feel okay that Keifer left.

All of these issues could have been avoided if they just gave you a wagon.

I personally prefer Dragon Quest VII. Better main story and better class system. I honestly won't replay DQIX thanks to Dragon Quest VII on 3DS. And its not just those things I mentioned. The game engine itself, such as interacting with NPCs and combat, feels better than IX.

I hated 9 for all the missed potential it had but I think 7 is a one of the best.

This game is shit, pirated it without remorse.
>hey not-gohan go walk to the other end of the map to talk to blonde not-android 17

No matter how much you cry, he will always be right.

This game might have been acceptable back in 1891 when it first released, but in this day and age, bullshit like that is unacceptable. The game is shitting in your mouth and wasting your time with trivial pointless bullshit.

>he

I think you mean (You)

I'm just gonna leave Aishe as this since Hustle Dance is too good. Might make her a Warrior for a bit so I can have an extra Hatchet Man for dealing with Metal Slimes.

DQ8 was good, this is not. DQ 8 didnt insult your intelligence by wasting your time

you don't get skills for Luminairies?

You do, the last star in the class just doesn't seem to give anything. Unless Aishe started with the skill it's supposed to teach, she started with a bunch of dances after all.

Yup. One guy looking for attention sure is going to counterbalance hundreds of people happy with a game.

And the fact that you think its your job to do this is pretty sad.

Which Dragon Quest games have romance in them besides Hand of the Heavenly Bride?

Thanks for the laugh contrarianon.

This game is destroying me with my autism.

All the other people who don't like Dragon Quest just ignore the thread. You're the only one who comes in on a daily basis to derail the thread. And since your posts are so similar, its really easy to spot you.

>Tell me it gets better.
It doesn't. I'm in the same boat as you, but I find a lot of the conversations to be amusing so I am not perturbed.

There's no chrono trigger-esque shenanigans with chests in the past/present, is there? How about with the empty chests I'm seeing all over?

The 3DS port of 8 gives you the option to marry Jessica instead of the Hero's default waifu, but that's a very small part of the game.

Sugiyama was against using the orchestrated versions of 7 and 8's 3DS versions period, even for the Japanese release.
He doesn't think 3DS's audio hardware could do it justice or something.
But the team went ahead and used the orchestral versions anyway.

>He doesn't think 3DS's audio hardware could do it justice or something.
Well if that's true I can see where he's coming from, the 3DS' speakers are pretty crap

Another one hooked

Please provide a source.

Yeah I've been looking since I posted, but I can't seem to find it anymore.
So feel free to disregard, I guess.

How long after nottagen does maribel ditch? I just entered rucker and i remembered that is soon. I want to make her a druid before she leaves so she can work on that later

The party situation is one of my biggest gripes with this game.
Out of all the characters only Maribel and Ruff are solid and get development.
Kiefer is great but pulls a dick move and abandons everyone 15 hours in (which is like only 20% of the game with how long it is) so you forget him by the end.
Mervyn is really cool but joining 30+ hours in kinda sucks and he leaves again when loads of shit goes down.
And Aishe is just... there. She's rather boring and joins more than halfway through the game so you only have a couple of islands left when you actually get her.

>Jawtoise Heart
Aww shit, time for perma-Oomph
Not sure if I want to use this on Ruff now or wait to use it on Maribel since I'm making her a Healslime too

Oh wait nevermind, I just realized Druid gets Oomph doesn't it? Guess Ruff is gonna be a turtle for a while then.

Just cleared the robot island, only got it a few days ago.
Does it get harder? The only other game I've played before this was 5 and I remember it at least being occasionally challenging. Think I've only had someone die three times so far.

Yeah there's a difficulty spike later

>Old Man Riffer casts Bang
>Old Man Riffer casts Bang
>Old Man Riffer casts Bang

Fucking stop you idiot! There's only one monster on the field! Your magic would be better healing me.

go to the bridge

I actually really enjoy Mervyn as a character. The idea of awakening this ancient hero who fought along side god is fucking cool. Honestly I know DQ is the "standard generic" jrpg but I really enjoy its unique characters. Characters like Torneko are great.

HonestlybI really enjoy VII's cast, my only DQ where the hero is probably my favorite character actually. The hero is my favorite in the series, this goofy but genuine and kind kid who comes from bum fuck nowhere. I enjoy them more then VIII's to be honest. I love Trode and Yangus but Jessica and Angelo came off as dull to me.

>Get tired of waiting so I heal myself
>THEN he decides to heal me
FUCK YOU FLORIN THIS IS WHY GOD CURSED YOU TO NEVER MARRY YOUR DREAM GIRL!

What is the best version of DQ3? Why did they never remake it?

Aww shit niggas, Casino Round 2
>Need like 300k tokens for all the shit I want
Fuck, okay which slot machine here is the lucky one?

They did remake it you doof, on the SNES

Emulate the SNES version.

It's been remade fucking twice

>what is the best version
>immediately asks why they never remade it
They did remake it dummy, on the snes and gbc.

Snes version added a new class, post game dungeon, and was rebalanced on top of of cousrse being completely remade with the DQVI engine.

Gbc added monster medals and another post game dungeon.

Snes>gbc>nes

>Hey this Dragon Quest remake is getting everyone hyped, I think I'll buy the original for my PS1

>No UK version

Why was Europe SO fucking irrelevant to gaming before the 6th console generation?

Ok, let me rephrase. They have been upgrading dragon quest games for ages, but 3 haven't seen a upgrade in 20 years.
How is the android version?

Europe was into gaming computers, consoles weren't as big as in Japan and the U.S.

>but 3 haven't seen a upgrade in 20 years.
It doesn't really need one at this point unless they give it a graphical facelift. 4-7 needed remakes way more than 1-3 need more remakes.

Japanese companies could barely keep American branches open in the early days. Enix is an especially pertinent example of a company which tried to get into the American market but had to leave because of losses. Then later merged with Square to gain access to their western branch.

Dragon Quest VII even came with an advertisement for the PS1 remake of Dragon Quest IV. But Enix of America folded before DQIV came out.

I made the hero a pirate, does that count?

The SNES remake of Dragon Quest III is already as good as the game needs to be. Its one of the 10 best games on the Super Famicom. If they gave it a 3D remake, it would lose a lot of the key gameplay mechanics it did so well.

It really is the best tile based RPG out there. And it should remain tile based. While Dragon Quest IV and above worked better with full 3D.

III is basically perfect, snes version really makes it so you don't need a new version what would you even want? The combat system still works fine and doesn't really need refining and something like party chat wouldn't make sense.

what are tombola tickets for

That was truer in the 80's/90's. The PS1 and the Mega Drive were very popular over here.

???????

I guess I have to track down a museum that have if then

I have no idea what you're even talking about

What?

Don't worry, neither does he.

I remember Maribel leaving after doing 3 small islands. But i can't find the names of those now. I just remember loomin is nottagen because I remember loomin. Anyone remember which islands you had to do before she leaves?

Also helps with seducing and dance skills

>Not saving the world with your future waifu at your side
And have her kidnapped and raped by horse monster? Now THAT's an awful plan.

I said future waifu, not current waifu

Were are all the enclosure plans? i think i got three left, also goddamn this grinding is actually kinda fun but the commitment of how much more i got to go is weighing on me.

Wait, you can dual wield in Dragon Quest III?

...

>I have unlocked the door for you. Go ahead and take the items at your leisure.
>What, you already took the items? Well aren't you one step ahead of the game.

I agree but I would have adored a remake in the style of the ds ones. With a bunch more vocation/classes would be sweet.

In my opinion VII did everything IX does better

So, one shard is in the Buccanham casino, but how do I get the other in Buccanham? It's beeping in the church but it's not on the floor and no one is giving it to me or anything.

>If they gave it a 3D remake, it would lose a lot of the key gameplay mechanics it did so well.
What exactly would it lose out on? I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just curious.

Just emulate
The Japanese releases of DQ 1-3 are extremely common though, if you have a Super Famicom and know Japanese then you can get a copy pretty easily.

ere do you find dark slimes?

did dqm3d's ost ever get ripped

>The notso machos are defeated
>They dropped a chest
>It a broadsword

>despite enjoying the PS1 version, can't seem to get into the remake
>get jobs
>get casino
>master martial artist and work on priest
>end up with a priest with a battleaxe that does roundhouse kicks

now i remember why this game's so fun

yes.

Dragon Quest III took the good ideas from Dragon Quest I and II and refined them. Dragon Quest I used the grid movement system from Ultima, which worked well for that game but was pretty basic. Dragon Quest III not only improved the grid movement, but came up with a lot of unique dungeon designs and skills to utilize it. The SNES remake expanded on this further by allowing the character to take a step for every half tile. Might not seem like a big difference, except it allowed you to avoid various traps or pitfalls easier, as well as exploit leveling spots.

There's also a lot of little things such as the simple class based system and the flow of the game might be deemed 'too old' if remade into a 3D game. But aged just fine in a 2D game. You can also argue that the SNES remake was just enough of a visual upgrade to draw your attention, without removing the need for imagination. You clearly aren't seeing a super stacked female warrior in a little sprite, but you can imagine she is. Whereas in full 3D, she'd look more like the warrior in Dragon Quest VII and VIII.

Another issue is, your party members wouldn't have a personality. Which was the major complaint of people playing Dragon Quest IX. But in a 2D game, no one expects characters to have visible emotions and personality.

>lower left
totally a dude

Damn, just unlocked vocations. That was fucking great. Reminded me a bit of the early parts of the demon realm in DQVI.

>if you grind metal slimes for too long you cant level up your vocations anymore because the battles are too low level for you
Who thought this was a good fucking idea

>prevents the player from just grinding on the early areas and trivializing job growth

Even if you beat up metals, you shouldn't be ramming the level cap in the ass unless you spend 10 hours on it.

just use the tablets

When exactly do you get vocations? I get that it's around 20 hours, but what level would you b?

Around level 16-17 unless you did a bunch of grinding for some reason

Is there a list for the 3DS version with class skills and what unlocks what?

>100 token card flip game
So anyone know what the top end prizes that can spawn on this one are?

Why don't you just play the game and find out?

>The Time Being and the Sidewinders

I almost pissed myself

Because unlike you, I'm not gonna go grind out all the vocations in the slime forest, so I'd like an idea of what to shoot for.

Who said anything about grinding?
Just play the game, and find out.

There's a book on a desk in Alltrades that tells you what classes are needed to unlocked the better classes

xDDDD

Never reply to me again or your dead you cuck bastard!!!!!!!!

gamefaqs.com/boards/688276-dragon-quest-vii-fragments-of-the-forgotten-past/73896111

wow, good job spoonfeeding him retards

Look, i was going to buy it, but, it had to come in MIDI didn't it. Fuck. Pirated the orchestral version.

autism

...

There's next to no difference. Because it's synth, not midi.

This is not Cred Forums, faggot.

Can someone explain the Wilted Heart town to me?

*SPOILERS*

So at the church graveyard, Carraway and Lavender's graves are next to each other. Does that mean Carraway founded this new town and Lavender came to live with him? I'm so confused since the "past" timeline ended with Carraway just running away and it seemed the mayor's son and Lav would end up together.

Not even him, but it's only natural for people to go in with a plan for job systems. For a lot of people the fun is laying out a plan and following it, and seeing it slowly come to fruition as you play.

Do you also play Etrian Odyssey games without looking up what classes can do and what the specifics of their skills are? If so, you're probably the minority. Either way, it's hardly uncommon.

You'll learn more later

Don't worry, you'll get to revisit that plotline later.

It's the board culture not to spoonfeed newfags. Are you new?

Wait
This game came out already?

last week

Whoa, you're so cool. Have an upv- I mean, (You).

>There's next to no difference. Because it's synth, not midi.
JP: woodus.com/den/gallery/graphics/dq73ds/mp3/2-07 Sacrifice Dance.mp3
US: woodus.com/den/gallery/graphics/dq7andios/mp3/24. Sacrifice Dance.mp3

I thought it had a significant difference, guess i was wrong. I will buy it when i get the chance then.

What, did you think they copied pasted the music from the PS1 or something? They redid the whole OST to be pretty close to the orchestral version. The prevailing theory is that there were a few songs in the orchestral version that didn't loop right and the Japs complained about it, but there's been no word from Squeenix on the subject.

Actually, they didn't redo them for the US version. They reused the ones they made for the iOS/Android version.

They're still redone, moron.

This for real? Damn.

I just finished Nottagen, I have hints for two fragments at an "ocean whirlpool". Anyone knows where it is?

>literally no difference except one has bigger volume
Really?

I brought back all the islands, so... what now?

Do the two different card flip tables in the second casino have the same prizes?

On the present flooded continent, near its ocean to the west. You'll see a portal.

Thanks!

> I love the amount of effort they put in dialogues, party chat is brilliant.

Same is true of DG8, which is the only one I've played. It's weird, because prior to playing it I'd always thought of DQ as being a lighter more straightforward and traditional series than FF, but this is anything but the case and I can see why the series is so popular in Japan.

Does the sailor's bonus to water damage apply even after you change classes? Because if not that's pretty shitty to give it no water moves.
Also, does it increase the damage from water attacks caused by items (watermaul wand, sea serpent blade, etc)?

>not cheating your casino token so that you can buy lots of magic water
Its not like I'm buying many OP gears so it doesn't count as cheating. ;^)

when I first go to L'Arca, is there anything to do other than get the two fragments? I'm pretty sure I've gotten everything important from there

>go back to the pedestals
>don't have enough fragments to unlock a new island
oh fuck

Always check "next fragment" from the menu.

And? What I hate about all the faggots complaining is that they make it seem like the synth is bad in anyway. Its still amazing music.

>I never knew amerifats got triggered by orchestral music

This is another thing that really surprised me on actually playing the series. Dragon Quest had 'properly composed' orchestral music in ways that is more complex than just about any other game music I can think of, which is the opposite of the image you get of it.

The funny thing is, I hate standard JRPGs, so you'd think that I'd despise something as traditional as DQ. But no, DQ seem to be the one completely straight JRPG that gets all the basics right. The dialog is solidly written, you have the freedom the explore the world and go out of your way to do shit/lower the encounter rate very early on and I don't feel like the game is pushing a linear, story driven experience on me, despite this aspect of it being surprisingly well done.

>Its still amazing music
I'm sorry for your hearing.

I'm going through a rough spot with money at the moment so I can't pick up 7 3DS yet, but all this DQ talk has got me wanting to play one. I've only beaten the 1, 2, 3 and 8, but I have both 9 and 6 sat here. Which is better- playing 9 entirely solo, or 6 without the context of 4 and 5?

kys yourself

>There don't appear to be any tablet fragments in areas that are accessible at the moment...
uhhh

Yeah I doubt I'll ditch ruff or maribel for my final party. especially with how far along they are vocation wise

You just played the games and grew to realize what fans like about it.

While the people who love to lash out at the series (including the guy who keeps spamming this thread) seem to have not played a game long enough to see what you so eloquently pointed out. They just played the first hour of a gamer, fought some slimes, got bored and quit. But Dragon Quest is about a growing experience over many days. Not just a few flashy cutscenes and fights.

So you're in L'Arca in the past, where everyone turned to animals. Have you solved this crisis already?

4,5 and 6 are loosely related, it's not mandatory to play them consecutively. Although, 6 is considered by many as the worst DQ. IX's main story is weak, but its side stories are great. It also has many customization (make your own character/team, alchemy pot, the gears you equipped show up in the screen, etc), and better class system than 6. I personally prefer IX to 6.

What do people dislike about 6? I guess that's why I found it for £5 everywhere and couldn't see 4/5 in shops at all

I can only speak for myself, but its because the story and characters don't really have much development. Gameplay wise, its one of the harder DQ games and has a similar class system to VII. It also has a dual world mechanic like VII. But this is kind of the issue. Dragon Quest VII kind of does everything VI did, but better.

In the end, the only things I really took out of DQVI was that the ending was bittersweet and both Barbara and Milly were nice characters. But its like my mind doesn't even care about remembering the events of the story. Whereas I can remember very specific events in all the other DQ games because they were emotionally impacting. DQVI only really has 2 emotional events.

>without the context of 4 and 5
The only 4/5 relation that you have in 6 is some text on the books.

HELP! I got past the ventus tower nad the dungeon after that but im trapped on the cube I don't know how to leave at all.

I just keep runnignalong the cube trying to find a way out. I tried using my stone on the sigil but nothing happened

How does the matching game work? do i need to get everything to win the prizes?

It's just the weakest out of all DQ, but doesn't mean it's bad. For me personally, it's because the MC doesn't really involved in the story compared to other DQ. It feels like he was just there.

Don't have this, but I've been playing the PS2 version of VIII again after like a fucking decade. Found out the place I stopped playing at was the Dhoulmagus fight where he turns into a bird-thing.

I have NO idea how I got so far as a kid, I barely understood how the fighting worked and I wasted all of my points in the special stats like courage.

Yes, you need to match everything on the board. Use pen/paper to remember the cards, or just use this instead.
woodus.com/den/games/dw7psx/lucky_panel_app.php

>have to play hours to just get to the "game"

It's not bad or anything but DQ7 is basically just a better DQ6 all around

The bottom pic can't be more misleading. That was taken using emulator with max setting. There's no way PS2 can be that good.

Spreadsheet on your computer is also an easy way to mark down the tiles

>Courage
>Wasted
Dude
The only 5th skill that's kind of a waste is going all the way to the end of Yangus' Humanity, since the last 30 or so points only get you Kerplunk and a funny but kinda shitty attack.

Just bought this game because of all the Cred Forums threads.
Any beginner tips for a cool guy like myself?

none really. The fist 15-20 hours are spam attack/heal.

After that plan your classes or you're gonna have a bad time.

Please help, I got the cirrus surplice how do i get back to earth from the skycube?

>get a lot of OP swords from casino lucky panel
>no good axe ever come out
I guess Ruff will still be my buff/debuffer.

You can get an Iron Axe from the first casino's Lucky Flip, that lasted Ruff a while

IIRC you can also get a Warhammer and a Zombiesbane for your Hero, both of which are pretty ridiculous to get that early.

Don't use seeds on Keifer. Talk to every NPC and search every possible thing. The rest you can probably figure out.

Where do i get more prism dew?

Pretty much this. I recommend one Monster Masher because SCORCH.

Smash every single barrel and pot, open every drawer and wardrobe.

Yeah, I got the zombiesbane, which increased my hero's attack to 120-ish, that's crazy. I've bought Iron axe, but it only got Ruff to 80-ish attack.

So I'm playing VII for the first time (The remake, never played the PS1 version) and so far it seems like an inferior version of IX

Not to say it's bad, I'm still enjoying it, but I'm not really digging the set up at all. I feel like the way IX handled the sort of episodic, 'every town/island has it's own unique problem with its own story, dungeon and boss' thing worked out a bit better.

I've also heard the game was super, super long, but if the first 10 hours or so are any indication, that's primarily because there's a lot of backtracking and pointless fetch quests that completely halt any sense of pacing. Any time the game makes me stop, run back to the present to talk to some NPC/get an item, just to run back so I can continue the plot makes me want to turn the game off for a bit

But I'm not very far, so maybe it gets a lot better. And I'm still enjoying it enough to keep playing, so

Ruff gets Fire Claws a handful of islands after Alltrades, and those things are pretty ridiculous for a while. They do a fireball on hit that does half as much as the regular attack if the monster isn't immune to fire, and if you use them they cast Fizzle (~80 damage) for free.

The game does start picking up some slack soon. Trust me, you don't revisit EVERY dungeon.

Yeah, that's the thing. I've never gotten fire claw shows up in lucky panel yet. Though I got dragon shields, zombiesbane, magical skirt, and strengh/agility which is nice.

I'm lost right now, I just completed Buccanham past and present, Now I'm not sure what to do. Please help

DAMN, NOOOOO
REALLY? Having feels for a rock?

I actually feel the exact opposite in every way.

Talk to npcs and figure it out, casual.

I'm not saying they're in Lucky Panel, you buy them later

The suffering hasn't even begun

I remember an user said it can be gotten from lucky panel, but maybe I'm just unlucky.

If that's the case then I never saw em either.

Then again I only did the first Lucky Panel once and got a Warhammer and some other decent shit out of it. That hammer lasted me like 30 hours.

7 does something 9 never did, tie it all together and have a goal after the initial "do the things"

It only gets worse user... rip

Also

ARE YOU DEAF OR SOMETHING? I said i want five years' worth of handsome men!

Hands down the best line of the game

Fire claws show up in the present version of alltrades casino

I got like 5 fire claws out of panel. Free kafrizzes for everyone

OH SHIT!

I am at the spanish town with the opening of a bridge built, how long until I get monster meadows so I can make tablets of monsters I befriend?

Wait, they have different prizes in the flip game? Motherfucker I saw that they were the same prizes behind the counter and assumed the flip would be the same. That was like 40 hours ago too.

people didn't give 9 a chance?

I didn't buy it. I didn't pirate it. I didn't play it at all.

I know, that's where I am right now. Guess I'm not spending enough tokens for it to show up.

Fug.

Way later, after Nottagen.

Is it at the chest on the world map? still can't access that little inlet.

Its... very late in the game user.

I'm talking fucking centuries user.

You have like 6 more areas till you get to the point you can use monster meadows. It's called Nottagen by the way. You have to beat that

You spend 5 tokens its just r n g user

Hint: Check the Mystery Temple

When do I get Thin air and what class do I need to be?

...

>I'm talking fucking centuries user.
you cheeky cunt

Well fuck.

Does Lightning attack all monsters or just one group?

Pirate or Paladin

>mfw it wasn't intentional

Its weird iv never had the game crash on me apart from in the fight with the plant boss.

all

I haven't had the game crash at all.

You're the first time I've seen someone mention it crashing actually. On my old 3DS the framerate tanked pretty hard sometimes (especially when you win at Poker, for some reason) but on my N3DS with Clock+L2 it's been smooth.

Why does Dragon Quest have the best lewd?

How do you play poker?

I dont even know how it happened its been a long time since them im near end, end boss now but maybe it was just a combination of things because alot was ont he screen it just froze and crashed my 3DS is a bit um lame in the mind sorta sense.

DQ8 I suppose since you can back the camera up against a wall and stare at Jessica's funbags in various outfits

If you could remake one game in the series, which would it be and why would your decision be VI?

i didn't pay for it, of course. apparently i have the superior orchestrated version. gonna cry?

user there feeding tools, like come on theres nothing sexy about boobs.

You give up, and go play the slot machine with 2 7s instead.

IV so we can getba proper translation. VI is just a shittier VII and since we got the superior game already. IX could also use a remake I suppose.

how clever, yet lewd.

Rocket Slime
Or II just to put a whole new generation through the same suffering I went through beating that game without a guide when I was like 7

i know roman numerals are hard user but the V and I should be switched there

I see IX panned a lot. Which is weird, because I think it's really, really good

I think the primary reason is because a lot of peoples first entry into the series was VIII, which had a defined cast and strong, continuous narrative. Where as IX gives you customizable generics and a segmented, episodic story. I think a lot of people were turned off or found the game less involving because of that

My first (and still favorite) Dragon Quest was III, so I felt right at home with IX and loved it even if it had a couple of other flaws

I feel like the more you can dominate a monster the more easily you befriend it.Id fuck so many of these monsters.

>Having shit luck on the slots, almost burned through 9k coins, gonna reset soon
>Suddenly Melon x5
>30k coins
Well then
Time to go save and move up to the 100 token slots, working up to 300k is gonna take a while

Is there any real reason to using the casino? The one by Alltrades seems to not have very many good items for trade.

>get to the first town
>grind for around 45 mins to get money
>but all the better equipment then continue story

anyone else do this?

>IX came out 10 years ago

I swear I just bought it last week.

either DQ I+II in 3D while fixing the bullshit, or IX with proper online multiplayer and less FPS issues

i liked 9 a lot, but not for the reasons i liked any of the other games. the story and characters were weak, but it basically provided endless dq adventures if that's what you're looking for, and it was perfect for me having just finished the rest of the series when i played it. it really is a different type of game though, hard to judge it by the same standards

i do think you have a point with the transition from 8 to 9 being too jarring for new people to the series, and brings up a good point too in that it tried to do what 3 did with the generics but people just held it to a different standard.

>Buy equipment from a town
>Everything was in the next dungeon anyway

Every fucking time. Every goddamn JRPG.

How about a remake of I + II but you can actively play both at the same time due to time travel shenanigans

>keep spamming Double Up
>watch character run dick first at high speeds into an enemy only for said enemy to pop in one hit
>lose my shit the first time this happens.

Is the game orchestrated or MIDI?
Can someone post comparative videos on the two?

No, cause spending 20k gold on a 3 point defense increase isn't worth it

I only grind for shit when significantly better weapons are involved. Usually if you hang onto your old shit for a while you can just sell it when you need more cash immediately.

Last week was ten years ago, user.

i been playing trails in the sky on the side and it's one of the only rpgs i've played that avoids this.

AGAIN?

...

it could work, but it also could go VERY wrong

Depends on the passive effects of the item. ANYTHING that reduces magic damage or breath damage is worth it.

You should be gearing for that. Endgame is all about you getting hit twice in a row by shit that can do 100+ damage to all your characters. Sure you can keep shit like Insulate and Magic Barrier up, but many late game bosses have lots of ways to counter magic by removing it altogether.

...

The only things I'll grind for in Dragon Quest games are whips, boomerangs, or shields/armor that heals you

Otherwise I just buy whatever has the best 'gold to def'ration

One of the later casinos has a shard for trade

I WARNED YOU BRO

I TOLD YOU ABOUT THEM MONSTER FRIENDS

>ANYTHING that reduces magic damage or breath damage is worth it.
True enough

Just think of it exactly like Link to the Past.

I don't know if I've been blessed by RNGesus or something but the 100 token slot machine on the right, in the second casino, has been working fucking miracles for me. I keep on winning a shitton of tokens on my first roll, running over to save, then winning on my first roll when I get back.

F

How do I put serial quillers into one of the barns?

It isn't showing up on the list, do I need to find its habitat first?

no fucking way

I'm keeping my PS1 version and won't give money to SE anymore

maybe for DQ11, maybe

post more comparisons

I am not getting this game anymore. sad because im not a piratefag. game looked fun too, oh well.

To be fair, Dragon Warrior 7 on PS was pretty badly translated in a lot of areas. Some felt very incomplete or rushed.

At least for the 3DS version, a lot of text feels fleshed out, like they actually had a chance to translate properly.

Who is it that can talk to animals? I need to save this dumbass little boy.

Woodcutter to the west of village where you start off.

Start paying attention, user. You will be doing a ton of backtracking mid-late game.

>that scene where the couple see their newborn baby as a monster

Is that the darkest scene in the franchise?

Holy shit

EVERY FUCKING TIME!!!

Just meet the present princess of the magic/music kingdom.

Now I know who the second girl from pic related is.

I'll get it eventually.
Probably with a 2DS if I have to. Probably not though.

Fuck, I can't believe I forgot about him.

One thing with seven, I think there might be too many classes.

Even after some of the shit that goes down in the other towns that still surprised me. Christ no wonder they made that the last island.

Oh well, time to spend the next 60 hours wasting away in the Casino so I can pimp my party out for the home stretch.

Can I change a character's name? This Sir Mervyn instead of plain old Melvin is getting a bit jarring.

More like there's not enough 3rd tier classes.

Alltrade Abbey, take the flight of stairs down on the right. Talk to the male Priest fellow.

So im in past al balab and im supposed to find the serphent on the banks of the river and theres nothing here what do I do?

why not just have merv or mervyn seen as thats his name in this one.

It's not that there's too many classes so much as there is zero reason to master all of them.

You might as well just rush champion/sage/hero and call it a day

go to the present and find the dig site

Go to the excavation site in the present. It's on the island where the Roamers used to be.

is it the gold horned dragon? I could have swore the dudes in the village said his horns were green but thanks guys!

From my experiences with the PS version and this one, it feels like they really toned down the damage of that kind of combination.

No worries. Only Hero, Druid, Monster Masher and Champion are worth it.

The lucky panel gives you great gears, and it's easy enough compared to poker/slot machine.

>YFW Kiefer comes back endgame

>not getting 110 mini medals for the Platinum King Jewel heart
>or mastering two monster classes to gain several permanent stat boosts that can make you invincible to the point where not even the final boss, or the extra bosses in the post-game can touch you.

Don't forget kiddies, masturing two monster classes of two specific types unlocks a third.

FUCK, I can't unequip the Hate mail

>Everything was in the next dungeon anyway
Not in Dragon Quest. At least not in this game.
>get far enough in the game
>all I get from chest/pot/drawers are leather hat/dress/whip
*sigh*

Is it cursed? Head over to the church.

Yeah.

If it plays that horrific jingle that's been around since the first game, which STILL gives me chills to this day, then you got yourself some cursed shit.

You have to head over to a church to get it removed.

Wait, mastering classes gives stat boosts?
Mother of fuck has no one mentioned this until now, Ruff could have way more shit than he does now, I've had him as a Monster Masher for a while for Scorch and he had all the shit from basic classes that I wanted on him.

What does the jingle sound like? i never fell for it.

>Tfw realizing DQ8's Hero can equip cursed shit with no downsides

Can I get links to the orchestra version?

Only Monster classes, and if you remain as that class. PlatKing Heart mastery is 255 defense, which means you cannot be touched by anything.

However you can learn a bunch of spells/abilities other classes have no access too.

Heavy bass jingle. You probably could youtube it.

DQ9 too.

no, fuck off

youtu.be/HWXjt0c1xd8?t=1m5s

>and if you remain as that class
Oh okay, for a second I thought you meant it was permanent boosts. Had me worried.

Fuck you I'll keep spamming this in every thread

Do do do do do do...dun dede dun

Man for real if you've got homebrew set up on your 3DS you should know where to search to find that shit

There's certain Monsters that have access to certain abilities a lot earlier than intended.

For example is the HeadHunter. He teaches you one of the best abilities in the game. Get that shit early and suddenly things are popping left and right.

woodus.com/den/gallery/graphics/dq3snes/mp3/49 Dragon Quest 3 - Cursed.mp3

I headcanon that Kiefer's mom/King Donald's wife was named Melania.

People shit on 9 but if you want to get a girl into the series it's the one to recommend

Yeah I knew about the abilities, I was about to make Ruff a turtle so he can get Oomph. Gonna use Healslime on Maribel once she comes back too.

Were does the platinum king jewel slime spawn naturally?

Where is the archaeological dig site again?

Theres so many places now whenever I get hints I know what I have to do I just cant remember WHERE the fuck the places are.

>tfw just beat Alltrades and got my classes
>decide to take a break and kind of in the mood to play SMT4A
>look at my playtime
>20 hours in

aaaaaaaaaa

Don't bother. Oomph is learned from a fairly decent number of classes. Healslime is kinda pointless as well since MultiHeal is granted through the Sage class. Even Paladin has access to Multiheal.
