Having played both, I don't see how Paladins is miles ahead. It's a lot easier to play for sure since everything moves a ton slower making things much easier to hit.

You can also add the absurd hitboxes, they manage to be worse than Overwatch, the worst being when you're around the payload, that thing is filled with invisible walls that sometimes prevent you from running and shoot right next it because it will absorb all of your shots.

There's also the problem of the projectiles being sometimes invisible, both those from your enemies and yours which sometimes makes you wonder what killed you or make you wonder why your gun didn't shoot.

Something feels of about it and it feels super clunky more so than Overwatch. I just shoot in the general direction of the enemy team and even if I miss them by half a screen, it's a hit. It's really strange.

Also the champions are even more unbalanced than Overwatch.

Bruh... As someone who played TF2 constantly for years after launch, that game went into a dead end in development. I stopped playing after the Engineer update in 2011. I played that game for 4 years. In that time the game went F2P trash and became a cash cow for valve. Now it's being consistently neglected in favor of CS:GO or Dota 2.

TF2 is 9 years old. It plays like it. It is very outdated mechanically and has not significantly progressed in YEARS.

Hi-Rez made Tribes: Ascend which was ridiculously popular. Then they started cramming in OP pay 2 win weapons. Then they dropped all support on the game to focus on Smite.
Recently they've dropped support on Smite, and basically killed it to focus on Paladins.

In a year they'll probably drop support on Paladins to focus on something else.

I've played both and I find myself generally enjoying Paladins more than Overwatch. Its definitely rough around the edge though.

Pros:

I guess they decided to do that so that they can design anything they want without caring about the fact that the shape of the new hero would make him hard to hit if his hitbox was fitting but it leads to retarded moments where some slim hero can't fit between the payload and a rock right next to it and thus stays stuck despite being visually small enough to walk between them.

People seem to forget how barebones TF2 was at launch, it had less than OW did at launch.

My guess is that if this game gets proper support from the devs, it could pick up steam and become competitive with OW.

The thing about Blizzard games is that they tend to start out explosively thanks to their top tier marketing and amount of polish they put into the presentation. But Blizzard's upkeep for their games is known to be notoriously bad, and many of their once great games have suffered for it.

Look at SC2, Hearthstone, Heroes, WoW, and how those have decayed into much less than what they could have been. They always seems to be more concerned with getting a good looking product out the door and getting those initial sales rather than creating an enduring community.

It's happening right now with OW. They promised at least 1 content update per month, but can't even deliver that. They've been endlessly teasing a new hero to the point where people have all but lost interest in any new content the game may be coming out with.

Yeah, the hitboxes in this game are horrible. VERY often I've been killed from around a wall.

Skye's bomb is probably the most egregious example. The actual hitsphere for the explosion has around 3x the radius of the animation for the explosion. And the explosion isn't exactly small to begin with.

Paladins treats me with respect. It has brilliantly intelligent jokes (The Algorithm is one, long skit in and of itself, and perhaps hands-down the best satire of the Simulated Reality theory I have ever seen), nifty humour, great dialogue, as well as a diverse, charismatic, and sometimes quite deep cast of characters.

It's brilliant, and there's so many moments where it's caught me off guard. Such as ISIC yelling my name in the middle of The Algorithm. Which resulted very much in 'oh, eff you, ISIC' as I'm easily startled. It was great, though. That's a brilliant joke to pull if you can get it right.

Ultimately, Paladins is clever, and Hi-Rez thinks I'm clever enough to appreciate their clever. Thanks Hi-Rez!

Now, I could either have a game that's so diverse, characterful, charismatic, and has more of an identity and a personality than so many others from this year or however many prior... A number of Overwatch characters are pretty similar to Global Agenda classes. In general Overwatch draws very heavily from other shooters and non shooters. Overwatch is derivative as fuck and there is nothing wrong with that, same with Paladins. Everything draws ideas from somewhere and tries to polish them or put their own spin on them and both of these games do exactly that.
