The issue is that when you approach any story from the standpoint of "I want to write a story about orcs!" you're inevitably pigeonholing yourself into being another Tolkien imitation. If you want to be original you don't bother with orcs and trolls at all, you come up with something of your own. Orc stories are for people who just want a slight variation on something they already like, which isn't fundamentally bad but does not demand creativity.

Though the OP doesn't specify between playable and non playable races it stands to reason that playable races is what it is talking about especially since non-playable races don't have to worry about not having a non existent playerbase in a multiplayer game.
