This slime seems quite happy.

Why you ask? Well because we're going to have a dragon quest thread of course.

I want to FUG that smile

THANK YOU BASED MELONS

...

Just purchased these.

Feels goo man.

So uh i never got the lore hat from putric and now after certain spoilery stuff he no longer has the hat but is still on the top of the leaderboards

Which low tier monster would you choose as a pet? Slime Drake here.

t-that's a bretty big mouth t-there hehe,,,

>that Zoma
holy shit, that's neat
how much? did you get them as a set or individually?

Full set for $77 dollaridoos opened.

As far as i could tell i shouldn't have to pay import fees for it.

>they jump out of the bag right after you open it

>They fuse into a metal king slime and jump in your throat killing you

please post sofia

>go to take a bite
>Your attack missed!

Dragon Quest 3 is a very good video game.

Have all the classic DQ grills

What enemy is this supposed to be referencing? I don't remember many birds from 3.

Oh man, I was supposed to come back to the Pool of Piety WAAAAAAAAY earlier than I did huh

I think it's supposed to be the Godbird

So can anyone tell me where the king your suppsoed to recruit for monster haven is?

They said a castle by the sea so im 90% fucking sure they mean coastal RIGHT?

He's supposed to be a king as the seahorse told me

She's a qt.

I want more classic toriyama DQ art.

DQ4 protag has a name?

Male is Solo
Female is Sofia

Classic art is pretty great.

dat sameface

I should really get around to playing IV
Once I'm done with VII, should I play IV or V first?

...

I prefer his classic art personally, it's a lot more full in the muscle department compared to now.

>My parents left me this magic carpet to find the legendary hero
>I'll just give to random strangers and make it their responsibility
I feel nearly half the npcs in this game make me want to smack them upside the head

>These puns for the monster class ranks
Make it stop

That's tough, most would say V is better but personally I find IV the best in the series. Well actually to be honest I think VII might replace it but still. You have no bad option there, both are great games.
Nah I feel the same. The art for I-IV was great, it was much more colorful and expressive. Compare it to say the art for the DS remakes of IV-VI which look faded and dull. Its weird as looking at the art of VII it seemed almost like he went back to style of the older games. Characters look more cartoony and aren't as muscular. Hell just look at the heroes of VI and VII, there definitely was a change there.

>hero does mediocre damage but is still decent because of buff and heal
>maribel does about the same amount of damage, unless I'm in a random encounter and she can just use bang
>kiefer does has an amazing damage output
holy fuck, is it supposed to be like this? kiefer is practically carrying the whole party.

Focus Strength is strong as fuck
You'll get it on more people later

So, I want my final party to be Hero, Ruff as Monster Masher and Maribel as Druid. But what should I make Sir Mervyn? I was thinking Armamentalist.

>You'll get it on more people later
yeah, I know a bit about the vocation system
how is ruff when you first get him? I should be pretty close to it.

Once you have access to vocations, anyone can be as strong or even stronger than Kiefer. Dude leaves permanently right before you unlock vocations, so don't waste your seeds on him.

>i've already used some seeds on him
fug

He jumps ahead to level 5 really fast but then his leveling slows the fuck down for a while.
On the plus side his stats at that level are about on par with the rest of your party. And he gets a skill that hits a group of enemies for his normal damage with no dropoff, so basically a better whip.

When you first get Ruff, he's lv 1. Don't worry about grinding, he'll catch up and with current equipment he'll be able to take hits. He's really useful once you can buy a boomerang for him.

Don't feel too bad, I did the same.

Don't feel too bad, the game gives you an asston of seeds. And you can get plenty of extra with the Thief/Pirate classes or from the casino.

is dragon quest 7 worth playing if i've never played any others; or should i play a different game

Zoo wee Mama

>animal island
>"There's a guy in Estard who can talk to animals"
>go to estard to find him
>spend an hour running around to try and find him
>can't find him
>go to the quick start guide
>the cunt is in pilchard bay
what the fuck

>quick start guide
w-what

What DQ should I emulate?

Is DQVII good or should I go DQIX?

I've played DQVIII and DQV some years ago.

This is a pretty good entry point difficulty wise, but also the longest game in the series.

Estard refers to the whole island you dumbass
He's not in Pilchard Bay, he's in the house near it, you're telling me you didn't even explore that far earlier?

He's actually in a house separated from BOTH Estard and the bay.

metal slash!

kek

If you can emulate DS with no problems, every DS entry is good. Play them in order. 1 and 2 on GBC, 3 on SNES, VII on 3DS unless you can't and VIII on PS2.

Is the PSX version of DQVII any good?

I don't have a 3DS.

It's twice as long, more oldschool but also very good.

It doesn't look as pretty. It uses the same graphics as the ds games but more low res.

Also the intro is like 3 hours long

Its still the same game but it won't have the modern stuff that improves the haven and monster meadows(being able to recruit earlier)

Ugh... ultimate key isn't as useful in this game huh?

The only place i could use it was the haven and estard castle. All the shopkeeper chests wont allow me to use the ultimate key any of you guys know where to get some good shit with the ultimate key?

>All the shopkeeper chests wont allow me to use the ultimate key
The Ultimate Key never works on chests, ever

Just beat DQV DS and i'm gonna replay it and slowly taking my time to recruit many monsters and make different parties.

I just wish the game wasn't so easy, magic sucks physical is OP and the boss fights are too easy.

Heads up, when you meet the Gnostic there's a Mini Medal hidden on the floor in his room. Just run around the left wall and mash A. Only other sparkle on the ground I've encountered like that was at the bottom of a well

Uh it works on the chests in the monster haven

The fuck is the Gnostic?

The DS versions in general are easier.

Dude who gives you a Mysterious Fragment in an area you can only get to once you get the Skystone

ANother mini medal is in wetlock near a cat in the present

Thanks Nintendo

Ooooh that explains why i couldn't find the mini medal near the graves. In PSX it was on the graves near his place

Whats wrong with being easier?

IV DS was harder.

The end boss had like 5 phases.

Only 2 on V.

>Nintendo made Dragon Quest easier
Oh great, another genius...

>My parents left me this magic carpet to find the legendary hero
Except they explicitly didn't want him to leave the town at all though, going as far as getting the maid to hide the real carpet. All he could do was request traveling adventurers to search in his stead

Oh christ
Five DQ games under my belt and this is the first time I've ever actually had a Rockbomb explode on me
Killed two party members and left the other two with single digit HP

Hmm well then he gets a pass but ive still met plenty of npcs who deserve an ass kicking

how good are the ios versions of 1-4? I have IV on the ds but it has no party chat, should I wait for the day maybe finally dq 1-3 will be added to something other then fucking ios

is it confirmed monsters from tablets have a higher heart drop rate?

I made a notso macho tablet so i can farm macho hearts

Play Dragon Quest Swords. They all explode. All of them.

So Ruff has mastered monster masher, is there any reason I should change his class? Was thinking of using the heal slime heart for him.

Just keep putting monster hearts on him. Healslime is one of the best.

Hero class is the best for him.

Have to master 3 intermediate or 2 intermediate one 3rd level class.

Monster Masher is nice for taming monsters

Die slime scum

Do you think we will get a dq heroes 3? and to anyone who has played the sequel did they just add more monsters or did some get cut?

I really love dq and its the first game my friends liked from the series so it would be great if it continued.

I just wonder why they gave us no dqV rep except via dlc for 2

Only if you want to make him a Hero or a Champion I guess.

I'm just using some Monster Hearts on him right now. See how much shit I can unlock doing that.

I'd cum for a 3ds "Loto" collection.

>THANK YOU BASED MELONS
THANK YOU BASED MELONS

Dat psaro good god its orgasmic

So ive been grinding alot and i want to know if the paladin vocation can use able to use multi heal? I mastered sage but i want to switch to paladin wil i still be able to use multi heal?

I really enjoyed Dragon Warrior Monsters and it's a shame we aren't getting another one.

>not even enough to afford a skimpy nightie

man, too bad there's no 100 token machine with double 7 rows

>you're supposed to lose the fight against Hybris
Fug, that was kinda fun though, dealing damage while just barely surviving even if it was mostly through liberal use of Multiheal

I have a bunch of seeds. Ive never used them and Im 50 hours in.

Who should I use it on?

Should I make the MC OP as fuck or should I divide between each party member.

My parents got me that thinking it was Pokemon, best mistake they ever made

Does the game get harder again? Setesh was a joke and I forget when the difficulty increases are in the PS1 version

Yeah, I think it's one of the skills paladin learns. I have it on mine, so it has to be.

Wait, is there a third casino? That's not a prize at the second one

I give MP and Attack to MC, HP and Wisdom to Mari and balance resi/agi amongst the four.

yeah, the fully upgraded haven has the final casino

What does wisdom stat do? Does it increase magic attack or max mp?

Fuck, I should go get the last few recruits before continuing onwards. That dungeon under the dig site is my next location, I was finishing up the classes I had my party on before continuing down there.

I've been using them pretty evenly with the exception of strength and wisdom seeds. you can do it like that or use them all on MC. there isn't really a wrong answer there IMO

It ups your chance to resist status effects

Max MP has its own seed. what Wisdom does isn't really explained explicitly anywhere.

i accidentally ran away from maeve did i miss a big reward

>tfw nodragonquestmonsters

Is that possible?

>tfw DQM3 Joker is probably never going to get localised

>enix

Was merging a mistake?

Where's the migrant who "Wants to learn how to swim"? The kid said he'd be on a bridge somewhere and I've checked every town with a bridge I can think of.

It's after the kid you find in Aeolus Vale

Bridge South of Providence

Oh that's what threw me off, wasn't expecting a town BEFORE Aeolus Vale.

well i wanted to transfer the wooden doll from my bag to my hero to show it to her during battle so i ran but i didnt think it would cancel the battle entirely

I played 1 and got halfway through 4 before my phone died

They were great and I plan on getting 5 on my new phone

Short Term: Very much yes. Enix pretty much funded Square's recovery for about 8 years, but got all their western releases gimped as a result.

Long Term: It looks like the new management at SquareEnix is finally waking up and localizing all the Enix games. So down the line, it'll probably be a good thing financially. Still doesn't make up for the 12 years of screwing the fans however.

That would be dope. Releasing the GBC/SNES versions of the games on e-shop would be cool too

I'm looking for this dude too, if anyone knows where he is

>It hasn't been posted yet
Guess somebody has to pick it up for you bastards.

>just unlocked Thin Air on Hero

I almost feel bad about grinding him to pirate first thing. Almost.

neato

Can someone tell me how far i'm off getting jobs in DQ7, I am going through the mountain with the village of animals for a second time and am starting to wonder.

Come on. Daily threads about the same game belong to /vg/.

You get them at about 20-23 hours.

Anyone else not able to connect online through the Download Bar tonight?

The game came out a week ago, fuck off

>plan to make hero Hero
>decide to master pirate first
>get thin air
>slaughter everything
>switch off to master another class
>getting my ass kicked kinda badly
Fuck

Okay for real, this is gonna drive me nuts. I've checked Buccanham, Pilchard Bay, and Estard so far, what other castles by the sea are there?

Does something happen if you show it to her?

You serious why the hell do they wait that long?

Top of the lighthouse

Just how do you get into Dragon Quest.

Because it's a 100 hour game

V

Oh I looked up there, I guess I need to progress further in the story then.

The next area really feels like a "final" dungeon but I guess that's not the case?

That was a stretch, I got there at 15 hours.

>Hero, If I ever die, I want you to feel just as bad about it as he did about Lucia, is that clear?
Maribel can be so precious sometimes

It was 30+ hours in the PS1 game.

otp

>If you ever died, I guess I'd be okay if you followed me around.

>open bag
>they all disappear

...

I didn't expect tonlike her as much as I do. Her commentary has gotten some genuine smirks out of me.

What skills am I suppose to kill that thing?

>look up mini medal guide at the end-game
>all those missable ones
>all those "examine the ground" ones

why

Why is the battle system like this?

Hatchet Man

run

I believe you need 85 to getvthe post game fragments. Personally think it's kinda bullshit, especially since most things you get from the metals are garbage.

Settings

Stupid question but can I install two versions of DQ7 at the same time?

I just dloaded the orchestra version. Or do I have to delete one and install the other after that?

Ruff makes me think of Yajirobe
but on another matter, my Ruff got access to Hero class before my MC, MC is currently Paladin and I changed Maribel as Luminary. But I'm not sure what skills Luminary they get.

I just unlocked the last town but still no maribel. Goddamit when is she coming back?

After you beat the Demon King

Hatchet Man

That bird looks like it's shitting its guts out.

>level 32
>Hero class
>no Mervyn in sight
Jesus, that's some intense grinding you've done

I don't know. I must have missed the character or something. I'm practically playing playing which seems that it makes me over grind. It's not intentional.

*playing blindly

So, I'm already fighting Orgodemir.
Is this seriously the fucking halfway point? What is the next 60 hours going to be?!

>Want to enjoy the cuteness of things like happy slimes
>Cute things make me really sad instead of happy

do you guys think if I stick my penis into a slime it will melt or will it feel like jello

gamefaqs.com/boards/688276-dragon-quest-vii-fragments-of-the-forgotten-past/74326503

>Didn't miss the missables
>Spent a whole Summer week finding every mini medal for the bonus dungeon
I have fond memories for the PS1 version.

I'm thinking of starting DQ7 but I've never played a DQ before. Any tips?

dragonquest7.nintendo.com/quick-start/

Yes you can, however they have to be two different regions

Yeah here's one. Start.

Patience. Just absorb it all.

Metal Slimes are good.

>Berserker monster class is arguably better than pirate
>Berserker passes skills and leads to better monster classes while pirate keeps nothing and leads to nothing
Why even HAVE pirates?

hoes before bros

What part of him giving you a sexy female descendant of his for you to waifu is putting a hoe before a bro?

Fuck you Queefer, you used to be cool

>Waifuing boring dancer when you could waifu your cockthirsty childhood friend you've spent way more time with
Seriously if they could've at least made Aishe a slut like Keifer was, that would've been a good start on actually giving her a personality.

so apparently 304 attack is high enough to do a consistent 21 dmg to a regular metal slime

too bad it's still only scratch damage to liquid and king ones

Its about the journey, not the destination. And be prepared for 100 hour journey.

This. I'd rather take Kiefers sister with the silly princess hat and lisp than his literally who greatx10granddaughter

Who's that silver-haired one that's almost hidden in the center?

Alternate design for the Dragon Quest III Thief.

>at what I assume is the end game
>want to obtain all the monsters for Monster Meadows
>want to grind out jobs for the party
>want to do casino shit

it never ends, does it?

Thief

Alright, round one against Orgodemir went south considering I had two thieves, an old man posing as a pop star, and a turtle, and everyone was low on mp. I mean I got to phase 2 but that doesn't mean much. Now with thief and turtle classes out of the way, I can fight him the way the almighty intended, with a champion, berserker, paladin, and an old man posing as a popstar.

I'm only 40 hours in and I'm already doing all that side content.

If it's the dungeon at the dig site you're only at the end of Disc 1

>Spoiling it
Kinda ruins the point.

WHERE IS THE FRAGMENT PIECE ON THE DIGSITE REEEEEEEEEEEE

nope

long past that

you have to come back later

Anyone played the Android version of DQ3?

I've heard nothing but bad things about it.

I haven't played it, but I would also recommend staying away from the Super Famicom remake. The SuFami remake of DQ 1&2's fantranslation was so buggy that the first game fucks up a puzzle to a point where you need a walkthrough to solve it because it just outright gives you the wrong directions, and 2 has SEVERAL UNFIXABLE game-ending bugs that are super easy to run into at points in the game that are super deep into the game at a point where restarting is simply not an option.

Fully recommend the Game Boy Color ports though. Those were officially translated, and run just fine. Pick up a little phone emulator, download them, and play.

I started watching the hero yoshihiko an now i wanna play dragon quest, is there a recommenced starting game?

...

Everyone here keeps saying DQ7 is 100 hours long. I'm curious what makes it long because you can avoid random battles in the 3DS version. Are there like 100 dungeons?

Let's just say there's a lot of backtracking.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand dropped.

The camera is too close in VII.

I can't see shit.

>that man who got his soul mixed with his cow

Poor dude.

Spoiler that shit

>Hero, could you go back up that mountain again?

>Maribel leaves the party
>get bummed out while these turbonerds try to take her place
>For whatever reason, Ruff says he wants fish
>subtlehinting.png
>Hurry back to the bay to check on Maribel
>I can't go just yet
ENJOY BEING A SLIME, RUFF YOU FUCKING FAGGOT

I can't find the 11th. Can someone help me?

so why is no one complaining about the same fucking face?

>now his descendants all have cow aspects to them

It's kinda horrifying if you think about it

I'm fucked since Maribel is the only one who knows Multiheal.

What jobs know Multiheal again? I got that one from the Healslime Heart.

Run in a circle around the outside of the statue

to the right of the likeness, ground floor outside

should look like a priest, if he's not there you haven't progressed through the story enough

>bang is super fucking good
>like holy shit it's so good
>animal island dungeon
>maribel either runs out of MP or dies before the final boss
why the fuck is she so weak? Also
>running through dungeon trying toavoid enemies
>enemy spawns ON TOP OF ME
>unavoidable battle
>another enemy spawns IN THE DOORWAY
>another unavoidable battle
>turn off 3ds

Why the fuck is this a thing? this is fucking bullshit

Don't spam Bang, you fucking mongoloid.

Who else /only controls hero and sets tactics for every other party member/?

Sure they do dumb shit a lot of the time but that kind of reactive healing is too good to pass up

I do that but only for random encounters.

I do it while grinding. Even though I have more MP restore items then I now what to do with, I still don't trust those loons to cast their own spells.

Having a healer on tactics is so good though. They aren't locked in and can react to a situation. Boss wrecks your group with thin air? Multiheal. Boss misses an attack? Healer attacks the boss directly or uses a support spell.

I just switched to orchestra version. I prefer the MIDI version desu.

>Want to play DQ7
>Spend my time collecting Maribel's pictures on Cred Forums instead.
Oh well.

>spam bang
>she's out of mp
>don't spam bang
>she dies

>don't spam bang
>have her defend instead
I dunno dude try attacking with other characters

she's got like 30HP, if I defend she still dies

>not rationing your MP
Bang is only worth using when there's like three or more enemies.
If you can't kill at least one enemy a turn through basic attacks, you're underleveled or undergeared.

How many encounters do you avoid my dude? I went with the general flow and never experienced such exaggerated trouble.

Alright I dont feel like being here all night so I'm just asking now.

Who speaks animal so I can complete this island?

Go back to your home island.

The Woodcutter. He's on present Estard. You can find his house on the overworld.

Guy in the lone house next to Pilchard. Make sure you see the scene in the barn before leaving animal island, despite the characters already suggesting you should find someone.

The creep who clearly got exiled out of Estard and Prichard Bay for being a zoophile. Ps not the hermit.

thanks

ALL I WANT IS FOR ROCKET SLIME 3 TO GET LOCALIZED, i would go and buy a 3DS just to play it

Ever?
NEVER

buy Dragon Quest VII and it will increase the chances.

For those who don't know, these are the gameplay changes made to the 3ds version of DQ8

>Encounters can be seen on the field
>High speed combat mode added
>HP/MP restored upon level up
>Red and Morrie are party members. Red is a mandatory join after Captain Crow, Morrie is an optional join for beating arena rank S
>Twin dragon lash significantly nerfed
>Helm splitter drops defense by 25% instead of 50%
>More skill points given at early game, particularly for Angelo
>Oomph doubles attack instead of 1.8 times
>Dungeon maps automatically acquired. Previous chests containing maps replaced with gold.
>Some items are changed (notably 1 more slime crown and gold ingot can be obtained easily)
>More mini medals added. More mini medals rewards added.
>More alchemy receipes added.
>More items added (in particular new weapons for the 2 new characters)
>Alchemy is now instant. You can also synthesise up to 99 items in 1 session if you have enough ingredients.
>You can set the MC under auto (AI) in combat now. You cannot remove MC from main party after you have more than 4 members.
>Blue chests, which will respawn with items over time, are added
>Photography quests added
>New rank (rank SS) for Monster Battle Road added
>New monsters are available for scouting
>2 new optional dungeons added
>More costumes added. There are new costumes for everyone

I avoid encounters as much as possible really. Breaks the flow of the story and just annoys me if I fight every battle I can. All my characters are on level 9

I got the impression from that guy that Ruff was gun get raped and the only thing that saved him was learning to talk properly

>Twin dragon lash significantly nerfed

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Oh right, and I forgot probably the most important one
>you can reset and change your skill point distribution

I refuse to believe that you're the same person and that this is a trick.

>ruff starts barking
>woodcutter can say literally anything and the party would have no reason not to believe him
Gross little dude

Okay I got the golden skull from the future and hadid has just fucked off the face of the earth, where is the cunt? If I go to nihil river it says visit the elder and if I visit the elder it says go to nihil river.

No thanks, they didn't bother to include the orchestrated soundtrack, so I won't bother buying it. I'll gladly pirate the fixed version though.

So why exactly are we being screwed out of the orchestrated ost for the US version of VIII? I don't see how it's "we had to pick either that or the voices" when the JP version has both.

>muh broken soundtrack that cant loop
>muh synth soundtrack that literally sounds almost the same
Gee whiz, I'm glad that I don't have autism
I have assburgers and the OST doesn't bother me at all, so you must have some hardcore mental illness

If it was VIII's I'd understand (even if on the PS2 it was very poorly implemented and essentially was overlapped on top of the original OST), but the original VII soundtrack is very good.

That's a big slime.

Hadid should come in after you go see the Elder on his death bed. Did you get Dr. Digsby to come with you?

>it doesn't borher me, so you have autism!
abd it somehow makes it okay for them to get away with it?
yawn, next

all these applogists, where do they crawl out from? do you literally enjoy being fucked in the ass by square-enix?

should I try finishing EOU first before starting VII?

Where do you download the episodes?

I already own the original PS1 version and the JP 3ds version, I'm just saying why does it bother you so much.

What's the point of metal slash anyway?
>HEH I HIT YOU FOR ONE DAMAGE
And then they run away

They sound the same, so if you have a problem it's probably autism.

If you wanna put all your attention into VII, then yeah. It's an infamous time sink. Otherwise, I don't see why it matters.

It's much harder for them to avoid it

you must be a special kind of retard if you think for even one second I care what copies you own

Yeah but the damage is so intensely small. Learn how to cut through metal already.

That's where i'm at. Digsby came back to the future with us and fucked off to the ruins, I tried to show the skull to the elder but he's too busy dying and not doing much else, and I cannot for the life of me find Hadid.

>midishit sounds the same as an orchestrated soundtrack

OK, if you want to eat shit, go ahead, but don't expect me to do the same

It's not the hardness user. Metal slimes are infinitely dense, no weapon can pierce them, barring a critical hit which defies physics.

Have you even heard the music for the game?

yes

Yeah, Hadid should come in if you try to leave. Did you talk to everybody? Did you try showing the Elder the skull?

>High speed combat mode added
Is it like Bravely Default one or just like DQ7 remake one?

Dumb question but did you talk to literally everyone in the town? I feel like there might even be a person on the balcony.

The metals also has very low hp. For regular metal slime I think he just have 4 hp. If your party all use metal slash, the fight can be done in 1-2 turns.

Are you even a fan of the DQ series if you don't like the original music for it?

youtube.com/watch?v=jLUDMrmjgjQ

To me this song, in this sound form, is still one of the greatest pieces of videogame music ever created.

>midi
Orchestrafags are so predictable
It's fucking synth, which is miles ahead of midi.

Okay so I just didn't talk to absolutely everyone in the village, that was the problem, don't see why that was fucking necessary but whatever. Thanks lads.

If there's a way to speed up combat in DQ7 I think you need to share your secrets with the class immediately user

The sit at 3 I think. I guess the reward for levelling everyones jobs to the point where they all get metal slash is being able to kill low tier metal slimes, but Hatchet Man spam feels like a better option.
I wonder how much health the rest of the metal family has.

It gets especially annoying when you have to do this on other islands but your party suddenly stops giving you helpful advice.

>still the same "it doesn't bother me, so it shouldn't bother you either" routine
You apologists really love to gobble up any turd thrown at you.

It only speed up the battle message. You can find it in setting. Pretty underwhelming.

Going to add that while it's a shame that the orchestral sound track was removed, and the synth isn't as good as the orchestral ost, it's still the same notes being played on the same types of instruments, the only difference is that one is generated through a computer program and one is a live recording. They're still the same songs. It's only being made into an issue by autists who think that it's a crime worse than murder. It should only be this big of a deal if they made a complete new OST with different songs.

Dragon Quest VII doesn't use MIDI. Hell no videogames use genuine MIDI nowadays, it's a lost technology for the field. Nowadays if you're not live recording music, everything uses wavetable tech. Real MIDI hasn't been used since the mid-90s.

I for one am thankful we finally got the game.

Exactly. Be thankful we got the game at all. Orchestrafags are going to send the wrong message to Squenix and Nintendo
>game doesn't get localized for years
>"They don't care about the fans anymore!"
>"I would buy it if it was released over here"
>game does get localized
>"they ruined it I'm not going to buy it!"
It's one of the dumbest temper tantrums ever.

I also think that it's good that we didn't get the orchestral OST. Orchestral shit is more for home consoles rather than handhelds. This will sound stupid but the synth makes it feel more like a handheld game. Orchestral makes me feel like it should be being played on a TV

That's kind of a shitty argument, mainly because I feel it's a non-issue being blown up into an issue.

The localization on the other hand, I like it, but I can definitely see why some people think it goes overboard.

>Hatchet Man spam feels like a better option
Well, it was indeed supposed to be a better metal leveling option because you can only get it at maxed warrior. But in the remake you can grind jobs to max easily with slime table, so yeah.

>put in Dragon Warrior 3 for the first time
>expect some jazzy opening like the first two games
>looking through the manual
>look up at the TV screen
>see this
youtube.com/watch?v=sMxYxP2pKHc

Are you just dumb or are you purposely ignoring the fact that they just don't want to pay for videogames.

Fair enough, I forgot about that aspect.

>they say they'd buy it
>they don't buy it because of dumb reason
First line m8. If they say they'd buy it then they should buy it.

I can't bring myself to believe them when they then say they'll just pirate it.

Can someone spoil me as to when Maribel comes back. I don't even know what to do with this dancer woman.

>he thinks Maribel will come back
I'm sorry, user.

the hell is cave to yet another world?

Don't user. user please I miss her. Aishe is boring as shit.
>party chat
>ruff: something
>mervyn: something
>aishe: what mervyn said but said differently

Haha, you remind me of one Japanese DQ fan saying it's lonely after Maribel left.

>scuttlebug

BUT FIRST

everywhere, everytime?
respeccing jessica from whip to staff whenever I want, aswell as hero from boomerang to sword/spear whenever I want seems super op

What does Sage Staff do in battle? I'd like to know before I purchase it.

I'd explode all over Fleurette too, If you know what I'm saying.

Can male characters learn puff puff?

So everyone agrees that Gabo is the best bro, right?

You can hit enemies with it.

So, are certain status inflicting spells better than others? Ruff has two abilities from Shepherd that inflict sleep, and Maribel must have like 3 abilities/spells that can inflict dazzle.

>"I have no particular reason to torture Fidelia so mercilessly."
>"And yet, when I glimpse her piteous countenance, an insurmountable urge to torment her doth well up within me..."

What does he mean by this?

>you can find a diary talking about the old man and the boy warning the winged tribe about the grey rain

Holy shit, I thought the game had forgotten about them already.

When I look at the list of tablets I have, Slimetree forest has a little yellow icon next to it, does anyone know what that means?

>Can male characters learn puff puff?
I don't think you understand what "puff puff" means.

I think the icons only say whether you're sharing the tablet with streetpass/spotpass

>have 58 and just finished hubble

ah man. i had missable stuff.

They could in 6, I don't see why it would be different here, (though I haven't checked for myself).

Instead of stunning enemies, it does damage when a male character uses it.

Maribel doesn't for long, right?

The fuck am I supposed to do in the dark room in the shrine of the winged village? I keep falling off. The statue doesn't seem to be doing anything.

interact with the statue first, then follow the tail

Just beat DQ3, GBC version. What next?

Ah, thank you, user.

DQ4, DS version. I just finished that one and the final boss was great. Yes I realize there's an extra chapter after that, but now seems like a good time for a break.

When will the monster recruit in a hot spring town (emberdale, i guess?) will be available?
Also the other recruit who is hiding in a big pot refers to the one in the desert town, isn't it? But I can't find him anywhere.

>8. Al-Balad - Pot in center of town (After Grondal)

I'm trapped in the Cathedral of Blight. Who do I need to talk to leave?

Where can I find a list of missable medals?

That is straight up Super Saiyan Goten in the background. What the fuck, Toriyama.

Gamefaqs sticky

gamefaqs.com/boards/688276-dragon-quest-vii-fragments-of-the-forgotten-past/74326503

I'm at all trades abbey what are good classes to level on slimes while I'm under 20

pro tip: shepherd gets an ability called counting sheep rather early, which can put ALL enemies to sleep and costs zero MP

pretty much trivializes 80% of encounters in the game, since DQ is a series where lots of enemies are susceptible to status effects

you'll obviously want a priest for healing spells and resurrection spells too

make sure to talk to the NPC that'll tell you which basic vocations combinations lead to which intermediate and advanced vocations, then plan accordingly, depending on what a character is good at

you see, vocations only add a modifier to a characters base stat (like +10% more strength, or -10% MP), not during level up, just overall. so some characters are better made for magic related classes, and other for physical ones

>there will never be a OVA about DQ V hero having SoL moments with his family and harry

Max Priest on everyone, then do what you want

Would Mervyn be able to master jobs in the slime forest if other party members are above L20, or is the cutoff just based on your highest leveled party member?

>Have to give up the Seal of the Sands for the dungeon
>Can't get it back

I was really looking forward to visiting the desert in the present and showing them the ancient Seal

It's that character's level, as long as he's still 19 he can gain job levels in the slime forest, just nobody else in the party will

Thank god. Old guy's fuck all for job mastery so I really wanted him to do some catching up.

Yeah the moment I got him I took him there and mastered Priest, Warrior, and Martial Artist, then made him a Paladin and went back to playing normally

Nice, that's exactly what I intended to do as well.

What advanced class should I aim for if I want Multiheal?

Hoimin

I know Champion gets it, not sure if Hero does or not (but they get Omniheal anyway)

If you're going for Druid though you might want to have them master Healslime for it first because Druid just gets Hustle Dance

Already used up the heart for that monster class.

Does Sage have it?

sage and paladin

>mfw the old man did become a hot young bunny girl

>that feel when you will never be a bunny girl

Took me 70 hours and 46 minutes to beat the story. WOOOO

Ok, thanks user.

Goddamn user, I'm not even on the halfway mark yet.

I just unlocked vocations and I'm 28 hours in. How slow am I?

Pretty damn slow. It only took me half of your time to do the same.

about 8-10 hours slow

I beat about half of the game on ps1 so i knew what i was doing

But damn was the final boss tough i died about 9 times and nearly lost with almost 0 mp left on everyone but my druid

Pretty slow.

Really? I obsessively talk to NPCs and revisit Pilchard Bay and Estard every time I go back to the present, so I guess that's why I've piled up so many hours already.

Rather slow but I'm only a few hours earlier than you myself

did you spend 8 hours in the casino or what?

what skills does the normal slime vocation get you?

dq7.org/dq7_jobm1.html

And in non-moonspeak?

Where the fuck is prism dew?

Should I get it before going to the beacon?

blue gate in shrine of mysteries

I've never played a DQ game before. Is DQ7 for the 3DS a good place to start?

Sure.

gamefaqs.com/boards/688276-dragon-quest-vii-fragments-of-the-forgotten-past/74314315

So, I feel like I can't access the tablet fragment in the Sanctum of the Cirrus quite yet, so that's a bust for now. The last one is in the Pool of Piety, but... I completely forgot where that is. Please help?

>How Barneyfag sees himself.jpg

robot island

You should easily be able to get the fragment in the sanctum, it's just sitting on the ground and you don't have to do anything special to get in

Tfw Nottagen
I COULD HAVE SAVED THEM

I dunno, I did get one but the info tells me there's another one in the lower levels.

Most of them are a good place to start, however I would suggest playing the first 3 on your phone, they are really short and will get you used to some monsters, items and lore, besides the new Dragon Quest Builders picks up right at the bad ending of DQ1. Im currently replaying them all in order as preparation of XI, last month finished DQ on my phone just to see how they are in comparison to the originals and remakes and I have to say they are pretty good

No. Emulate Dragon Quest (Warrior) III and play the rest if you happen to like it. Avoid the DS/3DS remakes at all costs. They're unnecessary and they look so bad it's pathetic.

>tfw going from warrior to mage for hero in DQ VI
drain magic better be worth this

If I remember right, there's one on the pedestal where the sacred stone originally was, and one in the living quarters room through the door in the church part, both can just be picked up off the ground

God looking at that gives me eye cancer, the stretching or whatever it is makes it look fucked

There's a door? Shit, how the hell did I miss this? Thanks.

Also, thanks to you as well, I'm in the dungeon probably leading to it, now. I went there so long ago, I completely forgot about that place.

On a 5 inch phone looks good

I'm looking at the screenshot on my phone and it still looks fucking terrible

>tfw they appear in almost every battle after Ygg island
I heard that its not good to overlevel in this game? But with these guys appearing everywhere, that's proving to be difficult

you know thats a jpg image right

Jpg only fucks with the color and creates artifacts, it doesn't make everything look stretched and awful like that

I know why slime is happy.

in comparison to this?

I was thinking more of this

pirate is pretty dope.

just owned the fight with bandits after all trades

Tell me your classes, Cred Forums.

I'm going with Hero, Monster Masher, Champion and Druid, personally.

>the fight with bandits after all trades
>intermediate classes already
No fucking kidding the fight was easy

I think that's what everyone is ultimately going with

>Making the hero a Pirate

it feels so right.

I kinda like the idea of making each character have unique vocations.

For the Hero or Mervyn I'll probably make either one of the two a Hero. Hero is currently working on Pirate.

Maribel is gonna be a Druid for sure.

Gabo will probably wind up being a Champion. but he already has Monster Masher maxed. He's working on Paladin now.

Aishe I might make into a Armamentalist. I'm not sure with her.

I basically did the same thing, but I did it outside of Aeolus Vale so everyone could gain some extra job levels.

Hero: Hero
Ruff: Hero
Maribel: Druid
Melvin: Armamentalist
Aishe: Pirate
This is what I have and I'm pretty satisfied. I still have to max the vocations or Hero, Ruff and Maribel, but I'm not too far

Sure
III, IV, V, or VIII are also good places to start if you don't wanna invest like 100 hours on your first DQ.

I'm going to go with Hero as Pirate, Maribel as Sage, and Ruff as Monster Masher until main story ends. Won't be getting advance class until post game. Dunno what the additional characters' job will be, though. Perhaps Paladin/Gladiator.

I'm doing the same
Might make Ruff a Champion later if Monster Masher stops being good enough

>yfw Scorch

Scorch is such a ridiculous ability. 130 to 150 damage gets you through a ridiculous amount of areas.

It's so fucking good
Right now I'm working Hero through Paladin and Mervyn through Gladiator so they can get Hero and Champion respectively
Once Maribel gets back I just need to get her through Luminary and Sage before making her a Druid, I got all of her basic jobs required for that done before she left.
Aishe is a Luminary for now, plus I maxed out Warrior on her on the side, but she's gonna be hitting the bench after that.

If I ever do need to bring her back I guess I can work on making her a Champion.

Maribel isnt even a tsundere. She's a bitch.

I still love her though.

>Think Maribel as a bitch and hate her at the beginning
>By the time she leaves to stay with her dad I miss already

It's not the same if she isnt insulting me every step of the way.

So Ruff just got the ability to talk and now I have no idea where to go.

I'm missing a blue fragment and my finder doesn't glow on any islands.

When in doubt, Info > Next Fragment

I havent played any dragon quest games yet myself, whats a good game to start at? Should I just wait for builders?

So is there much reason not to make everyone a hero?
Besides variety of course.

>cloud boss uses Thin Air

How the fuck do you deal with that without Multiheal?

Holy shit, that is so helpful, thank you.

You just answered your question.

Get 4 or 5 on the DS.

Do get into the series, it's great.

It would just be pretty time consuming. Plus I think you'd want at least one Champion and Druid in your party since they're more specialized and the Hero is an all arounder.

Fug Mervyn hasn't even mastered Mage yet.

Grinding a job fully until mastered takes about 80 battles.

>Recently sold 3DS so I can't into DQ7
>Dug old Ps2 out of basement, bought DQ8 instead

It's my first time to, so good so far.

Anything beside II and VI is fine, but I think VII would be better if you already played another entry of the series

Don't you have a Healslime heart?
Also
>Not vocation grinding
You're playing DQ the wrong way.

do you have a healslime heart?

>forgot I already had Zing so I paid the Church all that gold

Fuck.

Maribel had it and she's leaving right now.

The only things she keeps is what she has equipped. Check your bag.

Ya dun fucked up.

I don't know whether or not I should grind for Multiheal. The battle mostly went well unless Mervyn healed after the boss gets in his turn. Mage is a slow class. Dunno if I should just turn him to Dancer and try again. I have no idea how much HP the boss had left. Everyone was wailing at him for 200 damage per two turns.

It's already used, user. She's the one with Multiheal.

Get him an agility ring?

Already gave him the Mercury Bandana.

Just get another healslime heart, if you have a Monster Masher go use Animal Magnetism to recruit one, then send it digging for tablets and kill them in the tablet dungeon and you'll have hearts out the ass

Yeah, I don't have a MM.

started playing DQI for android

surprised at how good the port is

Try using the monster munchies on them in battle. I think it has the same or a similar effect.

Can you remind me where I can find some healslimes I can't remember

>paladin gets multiheal
>the girl leaves at some point
>gonna make the mc a paladin then hero

past greenthumb

how do I get gud at gambling

also what's the code for soft resetting a 3ds game again

They shouldve made mob enemies harder and reduce the encounters.

Once you learn a good ability all the mob enemies become easy as fuck, but really annoying because the encounter rate is so high.

Thanks my man

Find the slot machine with two rows of 7's, there's one for every machine except the 100 coin ones in the later casinos.

Later dungeons have much wider hallways so you can actually avoid a decent amount of encounters if you don't want to fight (like I am now, since I'm a bit overleveled from getting lucky with Hatchet Man on Liquid Metal Slimes)

I think they made all the dungeons so fucking narrow before Alltrades as a way to make sure you're not under-leveled.

How do the hearts work? I gots one of those healslime hearts you lot have been raving about and am not sure about how it works.

Put one in a character's inventory then go to change their job at Alltrades, they'll have that monster class available as an option. This consumes the heart so make sure you max it.

simply put it in a characters inventory, go to the alltrades and it'll appear on the vocation list.

home>close>start game

go to the alltrades while having it in a character's inventory will allow them to turn into that monster

skills from basic vocations and monster vocations are permanent, and that healslime heart of yours can give ONE party member a permanent multiheal, once sufficiently leveled up

>Once you learn a good ability all the mob enemies become easy as fuck
That's why you don't fucking grind to hero at level 20.

Man the Hatchet

have it in a character's inventory when you go to change classes

they will appear as that monster in areas where you don't talk to anyone

>tfw the healslime defense animation

I'll give it a whack next time i'm near alltrades, thanks. Gonna give it to Mirabel, or is that a mistake?

nah if you hold L and R and the press start or select, you can reset the game without closing

Worth it if you plan on making her a Druid, since it doesn't naturally have Multiheal.

...

Some games have that feature, but not DQ7. If it does then it might be a different button combo, I never bothered finding it.

play the first one, its short as fuck, 2 is also pretty short

Hatchet man never works for me.

Put him to sleep and spam hatchet man until it works

It's a 25% chance, just keep spamming.

Isn't it 50:50?

Sleep magic works on King Metal Slimes? I thought they were immune to any kind of spells.

...

poison needle seems to ensure at least 1 damage on metal slimes

who teaches the spear and axe skills?

What's the deal with mysterious fragments?

Are they optional or necessary for the plot?

That's Executioner, but I don't think that exists in DQ7

I think I got a glitched out tablet from the tablet sharing at the download bar
Using it takes me to a seemingly random room, sometimes the pots have some kind of error item, and going through any exit boots me out of the dungeon

Is there a list of enclosure plan locations?

take some screenshots (go through miiverse, upload them to screenshot album, go to online site) and share em, sounds interesting

Sure gimme a minute

>mfw having to grind jester for maribel

...

That's exactly what I'm doing. But she's probably going to leave next chapter.

>lvl 0
That doesn't sound right

Yeah pretty much
No pots to break to find that placeholder item here but otherwise the rooms are normal, you just get booted back to The Haven if you go through any door.

man, Kim's super OP

>Melvin is on a solo mission in Buccanham to save his friends and the world
>the casino is also there
The world can wait a few hours

Do the monster levels on the tablet have any bearing on the toughness of the monsters in the dungeon? The Chimeras in here are all normal.

Ah here's that placeholder item. Had to run in and out a few times to get a room with barrels.

What advanced class requires Pirate again? Hero just mastered the thing and I don't know what to grind next.

What are you supposed to do after bucchanham? All the tablets are complete right?

Man I'm getting tired of backtracking and talking to npcs. I need a break.

>Wow it's fucking nothing

...Fuck, I just checked and it's a dead end.

Should've gone Paladin instead. That also has Thin Air.

No.
This is probably the slowest Dragon Quest title ever made and one of the slowers jrpg.
Also the plot is just vanilla shounen anime guys go around solving problems till they reach the big evil dude guy.

But if you like the idea of a very slow pacing jrpg then go for it.

Hero only requires you max any three Advanced classes. Pirate is fucking great, you get Oomph and Thin Air. Coral Grief and Maelstrom are solid too.

...

is chimera any good? My MC has it and he hasn't learned a fucking thing

I'm stuck at the desert village, it says to show my desert seal to everybody and go talk to Habid at the Nihil shores but he's not there.

You have to assist to the music competition

did you talk to everyone?
go get the fossil with gold horns from the excavation site in the present.

Thin Air

Scorch

Oh, right, thanks.

The buff warrior npcs are my husbandos.

>this is your final boss tonight

muh dick

>mfw roasting monsters with scorch while leveling vocations

Yes

Yea it kinda sucks, when you go to the island in the present the queen won't even talk to you directly

>Double fucking edged boomerangs

It doesn't matter much. They all love you so much in the present they would probably form a line to suck your dick if the hero asked them to.

Need help, in Wetlock and have no idea what to do. No one has mentioned the musician in any way, is there some story trigger I need to do first?

You need to sleep in each of the town's heading toward it then sleep in wetlock.

Stay at the inn in every town, dongus

Good a thread as any, I played DQ8 ages ago on PS2 and havent touched one since, should I pick up DQ7 on my 3DS since I have no real JRPG to scratch my itch?

Yes. They play a bit differently but it should be a good game for you. Not sure if you played the original DQ7 on ps1, but it is enjoyable either way.

Yes.

What skills does Healslime teach?

multiheal

Multiheal is the main skill gives, recommend itbfor Ruff with great speed and the fact he never leaves your party once.

>It is another raise a character through priest and mage vocations episode

I don't recall all of them exactly but basically, single target heals up to Fullheal, Zing and most importantly Multiheal.
There might be some other, less important stuff, but Multiheal is the attraction here. Everything else, anyone can get from Priest.

>It's another "the boss is faster than you" episode

>it's another "the boss constantly summons minions who only spam kasnooze" episode

>the boss isn't effected by sap

Does Acceleratle even exist in DQ7? Fuck you never realize how much you need a spell until you go 60 hours without it.

What level? It supossedly takes 160 battles to master the class but I don't want to grind that much.

the last one

>the boss is effected by sap but it only worked sometimes.

I don't think it is.

Would be an absolute godsend in this game though

>you can't tell if the boss is immune or it just has a low hit chance

so are the sands of time just for cheesing bosses that are faster than you?

or does it not remove stuff like buff/sap

Doing that shit with Aishe right now. At least it gives me an excuse go through and master Healslime with the others

I've only played VIII, IX and the Monster Joker series (thinking to get VII for the 3DS) and I want to play more DQ. Which one should I play if I like being able to build my own party? I loved IX for that, the class system was nice and I could switch between a lot of characters.

>boss is effected by Dazzle
>their attacks still hit

It resets the entire battle. It is useful if the boss got a lucky hit and killed some characters or if you fucked up your strategy.

I think it can also be used in battles with metal slimes. So even if they run you can reset it and have another chance to kill them.

You party is pretty static at the beginning of VII, but once the vocations become available you have more party options available than in any other game in the series.

4-6 Give you several party members so you can mix and match your party. 7 gives you only 4 people max at a time. The class/job system doesn't start until you are far into the game.

Umm guys... whats happened to the residents of forbisher and faraday castle? even ellie is missing and the vacuums and the dilapidated maid robot.

oh I thought it only worked on turns

I haven't used it at all since I was afraid it was consumable, you can use it multiple times? I'll have to hang onto it.

The residents turned to having sex with robots so their society collapsed.

It makes no sense, like there nobody they just up and left they even toke the old inventors bones.

I can't recall. I thought it reset the entire battle however other DQ games it just goes back a turn.

As many times as you like.

Alright. Just confirmed. It works on the entire battle.

>Sir Mervyn joins at lv19
>everyone else is at 25 minimum
>he comes with zero (0) masteries
Nice "Legendary Hero" you got there, god
Also, at my level, where should I grind for masteries

use one of the tablets or make your own

I like to make tablets of monsters that drop hearts

but I'm not sure if the drop rate for heart is super low or if they don't drop in player made tablets, can anyone confirm/deny grinded for like an hour without any heart drops

Outside of Aeolus Vale would probably work. Or in a tablet.

When is maribel coming back? I just beat ogodemir for her but her fucking dad still plays sick. Worst dad in the game.

>tfw the MC's dad can't be a playable character

He'd come on board with maxed pirate. that'd be amazing.

>Ruff mastered Monster Masher
>Scorch is literally killing everything
Should I even bother changing his class?

>Altar of the Almighty
>"Find the two items on the Altar!"
Fug this. How vague do directions have to be, dammit?

That dude was so awesome. A great man and a great father.
Also very sexy looking
