>only the best
> post weeb trash
really stimulate your prefrontal cortex

Rude

He's not wrong. Next time post something actually good.

But rabi ribi is good...?

>Weeb shit
>Good

I double dare you to name any Metroidvania at all better than Rabi Ribi.

yeah, I've played it and its really fun and addicting. You can pirate it if you want, worth trying it out

It's not even a Japanese game

That's exactly what makes it weeb though.

Castlevania has been 'weeb' since at least Rondo and Metroid always was from the beginning.
You pillock.

You literally posted the best one though.
Also disputably weeb, mind you.

Two of the best metroidvanias were posted
What now

>Castlevania has been 'weeb' since at least Rondo and Metroid always was from the beginning.
>You pillock.
>Rondo or MEtroid
>with clear western style and influence
>the only "weeb" thing is developed by Japan dev Sutdio

kek
autis si stronk

Yes and those games are bad too so your point was what exactly?

>the only "weeb" thing is developed by Japan dev Sutdio
They're 100% anime style. Disputably it's hard to tell for Metroid before Super, but it's still true. If you'd actually played them you'd know that much. Spacker.

No one cares about your shit taste, m8.

>tfw when La-Mulana 2 got delayed until Spring 2017

Probably for the best, the alpha looks and plays like shit. Still disappointed, though.

There is little to none anime in Rondo.

There is slightly more in SONT and more in AoS/DoS but compare to what we see in OPs posts it is nothing

There are anime cutscenes in Rondo you stick

>There is little to none anime in Rondo.
The opening is literally like something of a shounen manga adaptation, as are most of the other cutscenes. And Maria looks like she belongs in Slayers or similar 90s anime.

youtube.com/watch?v=sME5_tyRbkg

Playing this right now, having a great time with it.

>this thread
People that complain about anime in genres like metroidvania and shmups always make me laugh.

>A game from Japan has a Japanese artstyle
I wasn't ready for this.

>A game that takes pointers from Japanese games with anime artstyles
>Having anime artstyles
I know right? It's fucking crazy.

>recommended videos

Nice.

...

>only the best
>posts a metroidvania where you can't die outside of bosses

That's true of most Metroidvanias, though.

...

I'm doing my first play through on hard and I'm stuck on pandora, I've been about two cycles from killing her and I've probably done like 20+ attempts

This game has a lot of difficulty spikes. I know I can get Pandora soon, especially if I went back and bought a consumable or two, but I'm afraid one of these bosses is gonna be too big a wall. Am I fucked on hard mode?

>no mention of Bunny Must Die

Rabi-Ribi is better than Axiom Verge.

It maybe harder, but not better. Characters and story were far more fleshed out, which in turn made the game feel pretty immersive.

where would pirate's curse rank?

Why's a Kirby game on there?

>weeb

I immediately label anyone that uses th is word as unintelligent. Probably underaged as well.

the only good ones are H-games

Not really a Metroidvania.

Rabi ribi was complete garbage and while we are at it so was axiom verge

Noaika never ever.

>Ori still in great tier
At least half of good tier is at least as good as it if not better. Ori is just pretty with good platforming and very little else.

Because Kirby & the Amazing mirror was a metroidvania with collectables, returnable areas and branching paths to complete the game however you pleased.

Sure.

Vita version when?

How do I git gud at this game? If I'm not fighting a boss, I'm lost. If I am fighting a boss, I get my ass handed to me. I only beat one boss because I used the gun on it, to which I cannot find anymore bullets.

...

your entire "meh" tier is fucked

Monster Tale is incredible

Play the fucking game before you shitpost about it, retard

Aww man, I liked Strider...

Get better weapons. You know those blocks that make lighting hit you if you attack them? Those have weapons in them. You have to solve the puzzles to get them, but most of the 'puzzles' are really very simple.
Also, get more health orbs.

You do at least have the handscanner, translation software and the Grail, right? If you don't have all three, go get them now.

although it's not an official game, I really liked AM2R

youtube.com/watch?v=QUwI_rYJ-TU

Wow, I didn't know any of that; this game is cryptic but really cool.

Why is this soundtrack so good?

youtube.com/watch?v=g12fJXmL_d8

Megaman ZX Advent
Kirby and the Amazing Mirror
AM2R

Dust is great, the gameplay is too simple and yes I know furry but even so much fun was had

I don't get why The amazing mirror is so liked here, it's a terrible game

I fucking hate aquaria, it's the most bland and boring metroidvania among all of them. My favorite is ITSP though.

Also, you won't be able to read the maps without the map software. You can buy all of the above at the starting zone, apart from the Grail. The Grail you get as a puzzle treasure in the Gate of Guidance, if you really can't solve it I'd recommend looking it up. The game is nightmarish without it and you can actually completely fuck over your progress if you save in a certain zone without it, so be sure to get it.

Because it fits the game.

...

Anyone here play Environmental Station Alpha? Criminally underrated game in my opinion.

meh original zx was better

>indieshit in the same tier as sotn and smetroid

>no mention of salt & sanctuary

It's a great game. Sure, the art style is a little polarising, but once you past it, you find yourself a game with more depth than most other metroidvanias. Also, almost all the boss designs are excellent.

Thats no smug anime face, what the fuck are you doing?

is it a metroidvania though? I heard it being more compared to dark souls than anything else

good list

dust should be in "yiff in hell furfags" tier though

Gee it's almost like weebshit is shit.

Its Platformer Dark Souls with 2-3 movement upgrades.
Still great

Wish they'd offer a decent discount already. Not paying more than 10.00 for this.

Valdis story should have its own ULTRA SHIT tier below everything else

Yes, it follows the metroidvania formula to a tee. You gain abilities (in the game they're called 'brands') that allows you to do things like dashing through the air or inverting gravity. You also can revisit older areas to access secrets and whatnot.

Nah, it's fantastic. Combat is the most important part of a game and it has great combat.

Story isn't really a good measure of if a game is better than another game or not. Well unless the other aspects like gameplay and music are around the same level that is. But speaking subjectively I thought the stories for both games weren't that good so even though Rabi Ribi had garbage story and characters it's still better than Axiom Verge because it was better in the areas that mattered.

Am I the only one who found the recent momodora unironically awesome? I got all but 1 of the steam achievements for that game

The awful control setup ruins any chance that game has at being good.

why does the game look so fucking bad?

Me, even got all the cheevos.

>The awful control setup
They were just fine, maybe you should git gud

I fucking hate this game, it's like you need to follow a guide or draw a map when you play

Name?

I'd play Rabi Ribi if it weren't like 15 dollars.

Nah, the gameplay was baller in AV, just like the music and the rest i've said before. But the bosses were too easy and well the true ending is a fucking joke, otherwise the game delivers more than enough to be the overall better game.

Yeah I beat it, it's still shit.

I'm playing the game and figuring everything out in Japanese. Fuck, getting the grail and realizing what it does was so satisfying.

Still haven't explained what's so bad about the controls

>It's shit because I say so
No

>I immediately label anyone that uses th is word as unintelligent.
>th is

Weebs, everyone.

Everything about them, it's like they were designed by someone that has never played a game before.

>Probably for the best, the alpha looks and plays like shit

How is that even possible? The demo from last year looked and played great.

But most weebs are either underage or unintelligent, so getting defensive over shit like this only proves how much of a moron you are.

>Everything about them
Can you actually explain what you're talking about, or are you going to throw empty words until it sticks? They were the standard platforming controls

He's probably whining about cancel being bound to down despite the fact that you can rebind it.

Dark Souls is like one double-jump away from being a metroidvania as is.

At the least 1 was.
2 and 3? Not so much. Level design is weaker ,especially in 3.

The lack of proper exploration enabling abilities is the one thing holding Dark Souls back from being an utterly top tier game.

Which was the game that made you realize Metroidvanias can be bad too?

Pic fucking related.

>I'm playing the game and figuring everything out in Japanese
Why? The English (and other languages) version has been out for ages now.

>They were the standard platforming controls
So...you're saying you've never played a platformer? Down to dash forward. The most half assed and fucked up casting system I've ever seen in my life. On top of the joke of a casting system there is the spell equip menu that is so awful they had to add a second one in and the second one sucks just as bad.

Anything affecting your mobility would fuck up the combat.

Most of the games in this thread.

Ripoff Reisen's game was fun, yeah.

>Down to dash forward
If you're too retarded to rebind the controls then you have no right to bitch about them

If that were the only issue with the controls the game may have been salvageable.

But CotM was fucking great you bloody plebian.
Now PoR, that was mediocre. Almost everything recycled from DoS and most of everything new was kind of shit.

literally who?

The magic system is a non-issue, it's just a simple button combination and even then you can just use the ice wall and ignore the rest

CotM has it's damn issues, but fuck me if it isn't it's own brand of fun at the same time. Only thing I have left to do is the arena, which is cancerous as all fuck unless you grind your ass off for it, since a lot of the shit in there is just plain undodgeable for any long period of time as you try and dispatch shit. Unless of course you have shitton of healing items and heart ups.

Still, the game has a lot of cool shit going for it despite the awkwardness.

Exactly, it's so awful it encourages you to use one spell and ignore the rest.

Any one where "backtracking" means you go trough the same areas, but with no movement upgrades, so its as painfully slow as it is.

I.E Enviroment station alpha
First movement upgrade: Halfway trough the game
The upgrade that remains the restraints on said upgrade: Last upgrade, and then its only used for a shitty dash maze

I wanted to buy this game but the fact there's no way to hide game activity off Steam prevents me from really doing so, even though none of my friends and co-workers actually don't give a fuck.

But once I learned the translations were done by Sekai Project and seeing the godawful translations I'm think I'm good with the fact I pirated it.

One could add some things that would work out of combat. I don't know, some rope attached to some hook, that grapples onto something and you climb up the rope? Entirely worthless in combat as an action, but could aid in moving about if they'd also design the world around such usage. Would make Catacombs a hell of a lot less painful to get around, potentially. Of course, just dropping an ability like that into the existing game would fuck up a lot of intended level exploration and stuff like that, but it could work, theoretically.

>it's so awful
Because it requires you to push two buttons at the same time? Have you ever played a fighting game in your life?

Even if it was as bas as you claim, how does it ruin the game if you can just ignore it?

>Have you ever played a fighting game in your life?
Plenty, used to be quite skilled at several of them.
>how does it ruin the game if you can just ignore it?
It's a major component of the game and it's so half assed that you're better off ignoring it.

I had the best music and some very interesting stage themes. Really it's just that the enemies and bosses were nothing new, which thankfully OoE fixed.

>It's a major component of the game
>But somehow can be ignored
I would actually take you seriously if you didn't contradict yourself in the same sentence. Again, I don't know how pressing two (2) buttons at the same time is awful.

The stages were incredibly dull compared to DoS and even most of the other games, aside from maybe the egyptian level. Really, it did very little that DoS didn't already do much better, the only real improvement was removing the shitty stylus gimmick.

Come on. That twisted carnival-dimensional rift is the coolest stage in castlevania.

my neiger

Is it possible to make a 3D Metroidvania? If it is, what do you consider to be the best example?

...

Nah, I only remember it being annoying to get through. Most clock tower variants aren't that tedious, to be honest.
Stylistically speaking, the demon guest houses in AoS and DoS were better, whilst the final zones of both were better in terms of being weird warped zones.

Metroid Prime obviously.

I also think Arkham Asylum should count as one.
It is far from perfect but it is more a metroidvania than souls for example.

Dark Souls not having a map or upgrades that make backtracking necessary puts it quite far away from a Metroidvania though.

Because Kirby is fun and it's a decent metroidvania. It's certainly easy but it's got cool ideas with the copy abilities being the ways to get around

Did Vagrant Story have non-linear elements? I remember having to backtrack every so often, but I don't think you could do much in different orders, aside from the few optional zones like the Iron Maiden, I suppose.

lol viagra story

You remember correctly, it's just on the list because of its interconnectedness.

It has a open line world, with a non linear progress, until the convergion points.
If it had movement upgrades to reach new areas, it would LITERALLY be a 3D metroidvania

I just hope we get another 3D game of Dark Souls quality before 2020.
Its so fun to play a 3D game where map movement is amazing, and the map is great.

>If it had movement upgrades to reach new areas, it would LITERALLY be a 3D metroidvania
Yeah so the most important part is missing.

Dark Souls 2 had the binoculars

That counts, right?

Ok, you start

Someone shilled this game 2 days ago and I haven't had this much fun this whole year.

>draw a map while you play
Welcome to real puzzle games

>need to follow a guide
Honestly, for the endgame you probably do. But almost the entire game is beatable on your own

>An Untitled story
Still the best 2016

>10/10 on steam

Fucking weebs

This one coming next year looks really good. Will have to wait and see more about it though
store.steampowered.com/app/356650/

Whatever happened to the kickstarted spooky metroid-clone that was around like 1-2 years ago?

Portrait of Ruin is better the Dawn of Sorrow IMO- and I really liked Dawn of Sorrow.

>memes aside, it's a pretty solid game, I really enjoyed it

Hollow Knight too.

What are some Metroidvania that require skill? We your enegy/HP isn't ridiculously broken and you actually have to avoid hazards instead of button mashing your way through?

It's worse in almost every way, though.

Ghost Song. Not out yet.

JONATHAN

La Mulana, OoE (to some degree), Megaman ZX and Advent, off the top of my head.

Valdis Story, at least in Godslayer difficulty. CotM too

FILTHY COW

>fortune summoners again missing
I don't get why people hate it?
Everyone I show it to quits in a few minutes cause they can't figure out the combat, but when you do it's a great game, enjoyed it as much as any game on this list

>only used for a shitty dash maze
Sounds like you did not actually finish the game.

Gee maybe it has something to do with being being weebshit.

Your friends you showed it to probably had you put on a government watchlist for showing them that crap.

>weebshit
so you've never played it, got it

You can already traverse almost all the map, with just the bungie rope and the momentum canceler.
Getting Both the dash upgrades was disappointing as fuck.

>Someone else likes kyntt stories

Good shit son

>Pointing out a typo
What a faggot, honestly.
