I ain't talking about technological bullshit here, just the artstyle. Noctis and his buttbuddies clash with the rest of the environment that for most of the time looks pretty fucking insipid. The design for most other characters is just as awful. The NPC design is actually the fucking worst I've seen in a game for a long time, and really brings the point of Noctis feeling stupidly out of place (not as in he's foreign to the setting, but rather his model was just ripped off from something else and then modded in) home.

XV is a disaster from an aesthetic viewpoint.

This is as cringeworthy as watching a anime dubbed by Disney channel

I hope you see it now. I was mostly talking about the jarring characters in an insipid world with a really awful lack of color and variety. I'm aware this most likely won't be the case with every single area in the game, but most of what they've shown so far does head into that direction.

It's not about it not being "fantasy enough", and I hope you realize that. It's more about how flat the entire overworld looks, how flat its tones are and how out of place certain parts about it feel in relation to others. It feels like a hastily put together mishmash of ideas and assets that don't fit one another.

I mean, "realistic" games don't necessarily have to look boring and uninspired. You can make a consistent artstyle still working within the limits of reality and you can certainly make something impressive out of it. As it stands, the prettiest thing about XV are the fucking clouds.

I sort of see where they're going with it, but the dull color palette/lack of saturation (it's like no one involved in most of these areas even studied color theory) and proper detail really kills it, yes.

The "interactions here" are just about the most bog-standard cliches you can possibly find in Japanese media. It's seriously stuff blindly copy-pasted from the Big Book of Japanese Cartoonish Comedy Cliches. It's like saying that a Big Mac has soul and culinary expertise poured into it.

I don't think the interactions in XV are anything special either, but at least they aren't this childishly cringeworthy.

Stacking gives you stronger abilities (stacking with monsters with fire moves gives you a stronger version of said fire). There's a Small, Medium, and Large and based on your size you can stack the different monsters.
