That's a dumb and slow way to do it. NPC only react to you when you walk forwards. Strafing or walking backwards works like sneaking. Instead of climbing, just side-strafe behind the guards and into the city.

He's not wrong. Nobody plays Stalker because it's some "fantastic FPS game". Stalkers gameplay is easily it's weakest aspect, it's more the world/atmosphere that make it special. It's not even close to as competent of an RPG as Quake, Doom etc

GoG uses DOS emulation (DosBox), right?
Then you can go with it for old-school experience instead of using Chocolate Doom, but for mods and high resolutions support you still need source ports.
