The holy hell are you talking about? For groups that'll die withing 20 seconds, Doomspike spam is absolutely crazy damage, even without self buffs. Sustained AoE and TP issues are legit, but the vast majority of groups die fast enough you can keep Doomspiking for a good 20 seconds and that's good enough, you can always drop Innervate for another 15 seconds if it's a tough group and maintain enough TP to maintain normal rotation afterwards til the group is dead.

MNK has the BEST aoe out of the melee.
Not so great compared to BLM SMN, but still good.
Elixer field is a short cd, perfect balance and just spam that cone, while weaving in ogcd abilities.

tl;dr - I was studying for an exam around the beginning of 2.2 which delayed me by 3 weeks making it impossible to join SephEX learning parties. I was like, "well shit, may as well unsub until 3.3 then" because only doing Midas Normal and expert roulette would make me want to kill myself. I came back for 3.3, but was undergeared and wasted the first couple days gearing for Nidhogg. End result, it takes me 3 weeks to clear NEX because those first three days are apparently crucial if you want to farm something with people that aren't idiots. NEX farms were a mess so I unsubbed until a month ago where I started to gear up, but that's apparently still not enough time to reach i235. Yeah it's ultimately my fault but I put some blame on the developers for providing endgame players almost nothing to do unless they raid.

All this is really doing is making WHM/AST more viable. AST can replace the SCH shields and the buffed Balance can make up the loss of SCH's pocket DPS.

Not really. AST shields can't replace SCH's fairy and it doesn't have any of the strong abilities SCH has like Lustrate, Sacred Soil or Indomitability. The shield buff is actually pretty useless because the majority of people are still going to take Diurnal AST and just use the buffed Balance/Bole.

Depends on the number of enemies, and how fast they'll die. With 3 enemies dotting in a cycle is the best approach but with 4+ QN is already stronger attack per GCD. Of course since RoD procs are a thing it's viable to pop IR and put a couple of dots before going into quick nock. This way I had 3000 dps on trash in Saint Mocianne back in 3.1, shit was very much cash money.

You're underestimating the amount they were buffed by. Not saying that people are suddenly going to run AST/WHM, because SCH is still an overpowered monster, but this sentiment also echoes the same shit people parrot whenever they mention Nocturnal.

The shields were buffed so much that each Aspected Benefic is now basically the equivalent of a Critical Adloquium, except it costs significantly less and is instant-cast. With how strong the shields are now, you can easily put one up, switch into Clerics and DPS for the duration while it's up, before switching back and to reapply them.

People just seem to think, "Oh, Noct. AST doesn't have a fairy to help it heal, therefore it can't DPS like a SCH can!" But it doesn't need one now.

With how fucking absurd the strength of the shields are, you can easily mimic what a SCH does with their fairy, just in a different way. It's for this reason that I think the shield buff was actually a very good idea; it doesn't steal from SCH's niche but makes N.AST viable.

Either way, the optimal/meta healing comp this time around is very clearly going to be AST/SCH. It has the best mitigation, enough healing by far, and ridiculously nice DPS enhancements.

Speaking of which, the only other major change is that if you get Bole and don't have RR up, you can put that shit on the tank and actually appreciate a noticeable effect now. This leaves Spear as the only truly shit draw.

The same with MegaDeath instead.

Enahnced/Extended Balance is the way to go.

Enhanced Balance is better than Extended if use in conjunction with other buffs such as Blood for Blood or Raging Strikes, because the effects of buffs are multiplicative. Stacking them makes them more powerful.

Otherwise, extended balance is much more effective.

If AST is coming out of Cleric Stance to drop a shield, they're missing out on a GCD of Malefic II. They don't have the safety net of 3-9 Lustrates, or Indomitability, or free aoe healing/magic defense on the fairy. Its shields got buffed but they really weren't the problem that caused the gap between AST and SCH in the offhealer spot. SCH can drop out of Cleric Stance at any time and shit out free healing, AST can do it once every 40 seconds. SCH can put up a free aoe regen every minute without even dropping Cleric. The fairy will give free heals to anyone that's damaged, not just your shield target.

AST can provide the mitigation that SCH can now, but it can't provide the utility from the same party slot without losing out on DPS.

In most cases, unless your tank is retarded, Eos/Selene isn't going to be enough to sufficiently keep your tank topped off either, so often times SCHs are still going to have to drop Cleric's to aid her; I don't know why people pretend that Selene/Eos can manage everything on her own. The only time that's possible is if your tank is making baby-bitch pulls in dungeons and everything is going painfully slow.

See, the thing is, they don't need it anymore. Aspected Benefic, alongside Essential Dignity (which is only 40s, by the way) is more than enough. Aspected Benefic is a critical adloquium in strength but more importantly it's

and I can't stress that enough. The ability to shit out constant shields of that strength means you don't need 3-9 lustrates as a safety net.

Besides that, AST doesn't need Indom. Indom is crazy powerful, don't get me wrong, but Aspected Helios now shits all over Succor and they also have Helios.

Aspected Helios alone is now almost as powerful as Deployment Tactics.

Let me repeat that: A spell on a 2.5s GCD is almost as powerful as an ability SCH can only use once every 2 minutes.

Coupled with that, you're also forgetting the 10% bonus they get to every. single. heal. they cast. And that says nothing of synastry, which is an additional 20%.

And that ALSO says nothing of their now (even further buffed for god knows what reason) MP management, and base lower MP costs (cheaper by 10-20%).

AST is a power house now, both in Diurnal and Nocturnal. It's better than WHM, but I still wouldn't quite say it's on par with SCH yet. It's definitely getting there, but the

Swiftcast is a memeskill just like blood for blood (which is usually what ends up killing the retard DPS to begin with). Fuck off with your crossclass shit for a ~1.7% DPS increase, and stop getting hit by AoEs.

Swiftcast is the only crucial one as a WHM. You can level Arcanist a few levels for Virus when you have time, but usually there will be a SCH or SMN in the party who has that covered.

You will need to party heal in every fight from now on, just so you know. If it looks like you don't have to heal anyone but the tank, then it's because the other healer is doing YOUR job to cover for your mistake. WHM is the best AOE healer.

You don't have to watch any videos or read guides though, not ever. Don't listen to idiots who say that. Don't skip cutscenes either. You don't owe random people on DF anything, and if they get mad that you're playing the game the intended way, that's their problem.

Be glad it's not WoW at least, if you run a low level dungeon or any PvP match there it's 80% bots and 20% players.

BRD is still incredibly mobile. Second of free movement each GCD might not sound like much but it's huge. If push comes to shove you can always Feint or just turn off the casting stance, BLMs can't do that.

I like how SMN, a caster is now more mobile than BRD's.

BRD was the best in ARR. I switched to MCH in HW and haven't looked back. My problem with BRD was just that Wanderer's Minuet seemed like such a half-assed idea. They could've done something a little different to make it feel more different from MCH which has a very similar mechanic. Then again I can't complain, I have both at 60 and geared so I can switch for whatever my FC needs me to be.

Really though anyone complaining about BRD's lack of mobility is a shitter who stands in red circles anyway. Mobility is the least of BRD's problems
