I don't actually have the game, but I'm always on the look out for stuff to waste my time in, and for anything with a bard style class or skills. Since games do things differently I have a few questions on it.

Are songs or whatever a channeled thing? meaning I can't move during them, or would I be able to move and attack while a song or it's effects are going on? Most of the time Bards are connected to archers, but I often tend to favor close in combat, something like a bard/thief kind of deal, it looks like in this game that isn't really optimal, but is it in any way possible?

Looks like Bards are always in demand for parties and such so I'm guessing I generally wouldn't have much trouble getting in with a group for anything I'd really need, but hos difficult is it to solo with them when I need to?

Songs have a cast time that you have to stand still for, but you can move around once the buff is up. It will stay up as long as you have the MP to maintain it. But unfortunately, once you get toward the level cap your regular attacks gain a cast bar so you lose most of your mobility.

The trial is super forgiving, and let's you play way longer than you'd be able to in 14 days. I definitely recommend trying it. I haven't picked up the game yet myself because I just don't have the finances right now to spend a sub, but I did my trial on the server Leviathon and playing only like 8 of the 14 days I made like 3 friends and was invited to an FC, so I definitely recommend that server for friendly people.

Tank LB3 to survive Alexander's Judgement (Sonic boom, motherfucker), time stops with mechanics that need to be set up before and dodged after the stop, a phase where the DPS has to go into bubbles to stop Alexander killing you in the past, and the finale is fighting the Alexander Prime while giant fucking Alex rises up over the arena to barrage you with attacks. Feels good mechanically and is impressive visually. Good music, too.

I desperately wish they were more consistent in using voice acting in trials and raids, it really adds a lot to the fight. The one that always confuses me the most is Battle at the Big Bridge has voice acting, but Battle at the Big Keep doesn't? They still have the voice actor, it's the same character, why the fuck would you have voice lines in one and not the other?

Oh, Sophia is easy. She has Leviathan charges with an obvious tell, she does some normal dodge AoE circles, she has an add phase where you need to separate the DPS add and the tank add and focus down the healer add first, the she does all the same shit with platform shifting. Just see which side of the arena she is tethering (Tether means she is going to push that side down, there's also a meteor falling on that side if you look over there) and make sure you're on the side that doesn't have a tether/has fewer tethers so you don't fall off.

A lot of her platform shifting/sweeping mechanics are a lot like Leviathan, only she has obvious verbal queues and more limited ways she can sweep. I'm sure extreme will make it more complicated, but normal has very obvious and clear visuals.

I could not have possibly cared less about the Au Ra in the Alex story. It should have been goblins only.

Don't let anyone ever tell you tanking is hard, the deep dark secret is that tanking is the easiest role in FF14. As a warrior just overpower to pick up adds, and a few butcher's block with berserk up should have you solid on aggro for most of the fight if not all of it on a boss.
