If you can get into the tank controls ( which are honestly not bad; you get used to them in 15 minutes tops), the original trilogy is still excellent, with RE2 being a particular high water mark. Though if you need an intro to the series, 4 is a masterpiece game and what got me into the series in general. In terms of emulation, RE 2/3 are best on the Dreamcast, but they are just fine on the ps1. The original re1 is best played either on Directors Cut (without the dualshock label) or the DS original mode.

1, 2, CV, 0, REmake, Dino Crisis, 4, Mercs 3D, Outbreak with friends.

That's a pretty opinion driven question.

Most of the main series is divided between 1-3, 4, and 5+6. These groups vary in themes, gameplay, and even fan opinion. (For the record, most fans group 4, 5 and 6 together but I don't because after 4 the series took a drastic change of themes and started becoming almost elusively co-op)

Here's what I think:

1 is hockey but weirdly addictive but it's also aged. If you've never played a tank control game you might want to try the HD remake. It has controls that work more like DMC and it is a great way to get into the series.

2 is a huge fan favorite and... well, with good reason, but it has the same problem as 1 that it works on tank controls and that might put people who've never played those games off.

3 has it's good points but I wouldn't start with this game.

Code Veronica I didn't finish because I ran out of ink ribbons so I can't comment on the game on it's entirety.

4 is one of my personal favorite games, period. It's very divisive among fans but it's an outstanding game. It still has tank controls but now it's behind the shoulder. It might take time to get used to it since no over the shoulder games use tank controls anymore but if you stick with it it's a hell of a ride. It's the game that got me into the series and if you get it for the PS4 I do recommend using the original controller layout rather than the modernized one the game starts you with since it's how the game was designed. This game is very much a B action/horror movie and, honestly, that's a plus.

5 is definitely not a horror game and as much as they've improved the AI since the game launched I think you'd be better off playing it with a friend. It's a solid action title but it lacks the personality that make the other games still worth playing. Not a bad game, just more bug action block buster than survival horror. The gameplay is a more refined version of 4's but it lacks the verity and interesting happenings.

Whichever ones are popular are faggot casual Facebook normie franchise-ruining shit. If they are critically re-evaluated by the mainstream and found wanting, then they are of course the true gems of the franchise. You shouldn't need to ask this, this is Cred Forums 101.

Try Resident Evil: Dead aim OP, it gets a bad rap but is short, ambient and can really be spooky as fuck on a dark ship out at sea with nothing but the night wind, groaning boat steel and top-tier zombie moans in the distant.

It also has some of the very best unusual, ambient music, best save theme and possibly one of the best intros ever made. Please take a look and listen:

You wont be disappoint

>because I ran out of ink ribbons

Literally how? Shamefur dispray, user.

You're seriously suggesting that his first experience with the entire franchise should be Dead Aim? OP, just play REmake and then RE4. If you like REmake's gameplay go back and try the others.

REmake = 4 > 1 > 2

The only other games in the series worth considering is 5, and even then only if you can get a friend to play the whole thing with you. Since without a friend it's basically a shittier version of 4
Start with REmake if you want exploration or 4 if you want action I guess.

Why not Nemesis though?

This image is more relevant now than ever, daily reminder:

"When creating The rebecca cowgirl costume, Capcom oddly reused assetts from Jills lower half without shrinking them down to normal size.

You can see this for yourself clearly if you have Resident evil 0HD. Scroll through all if her alt costumes and you will see that Only with the cowgirl costume, Rebecca is carrying way more ass, wider hips and her lower half is thicker in general, oweing to the cut and pasting from Jill, a bigger, thicker older woman."

Sorry about that guise, for your comparison see:

Compared to this:

You're doing the lord's work user.

Hmm good point, was just tgrowing it out there really for anyone that may have missed out on it.

Do what this guy says OP, its a good position, but I might add first, if you do enjoy REmakes playstyle go straight to Resident evil 2 first :3

If not i am sure you should skip straight to 4 regardless of liking REmake or not.

Sauce? Been looking for ages

Cont.

0 is more of what made the originals fun but with a clever 2 character mechanic that makes for interesting puzzles. I wouldn't start the series with it, though, I'd go with this if you want more of what the HD remake had.

Dead Aim, I don't think you'll want to play since it was a PS2 exclusive, is a personal favorite. It was a light gun game but had controller options. It was like a poor man's version of 4 and it had a lot of very basic flaws, like the subtitles not matching, but it was fun and overlook.

Revelations 1 was more survival horror than the rest. It had closed environments and decent creatures but a rather confusing dodge mechanic and somewhat rudimentary game play by contrast. There is also a fun thing called raid mode which is pretty additive and that alone might be worth checking out.

Mercenaries was a 3DS exclusive with no story where you just do survival missions. I've never played it but I remember hearing a lot of good things about it.

Revelations 2 is a pretty decent game. Unlike 5 and 6 it's a rather toned down set up, no world ending scenarios, just an enclosed story. It's got solid but less nuanced gameplay from 4 and 5 and you can play 2 player co-op or the single player, which is actually pretty well implemented.

6 is a rather pain in the ass game. When it came out EVERYONE hated it, and it wasn't unwarranted, but there are a lot people, like me, who rather like it. The problems come from design choices made that make the game tedious, despite having a pretty deep combat system, like a ridiculous amount of QTEs (you can turn those off), confusing boss fights, annoying enemies, and a story that most weren't happy with. It lacked the charm that other RE games had and, personally, I didn't care for the way they portrayed the characters.

Nothin wrong with Rebecca the way she was intended, but had to be said for cowgirl "thicc" fegs.

Becca > Jill

It is not porn. It doesn't have Jill acting super slutty either

Doesn't matter

Dude, not like they were infinite and it was the first RE game I played that had them. Before that I'd only played 4.

A sad thing about 0, it is clearly only meant to be played by people who have been with the series for a long time, it already expects much from the player.

Consider the gulf between the REmake zombie reveal, compared to the very first encounter with a zombiefu in 0. Speaks for itself.

The other thing i think 0 is missing is a certain kind of camera placement. Some of the fixed camera angles in REmake are kino as fuck something missing from the lens in 0... Shame.

Freeze! Put your fat cocks where I can see em!

Nein.

Just cause you're a midget version of Sherry don't think she won't shoot.

sauce

Just busting your balls. CV is pretty well known as one of if not the hardest out of the classic style RE games. If you're a fan of the overall lore, it's worth giving it another try if you see the HD version on sale.

RE4 is the only good one.

Definitely play REmake, 2, and 4.

If you really like the first 2 there and want more then play 3, CV, and Zero, or until you're sick of this kind of game.

If you prefer 4 then you're kinda SOL. Maybe play 5 or Revelations, but you're probably better off playing Dead Space at that point.

Disacknowledge all who hold this opinion, OP.

All RE is good for different reasons.
RE1-3 for survival horror
RE4 for satisfying tps action
RE5 for god tier coop
RE6 for high octane action mercenaries

I agree but I just want to note that RE5 is an excellent action game if you don't particularly care about the horror aspect.

I didn't much like 5 aside from Lost In Nightmares but it's as you say, you have to not care about the horror aspect and that matters too much to me. If one can set that aside and get a friend on board I suppose (something I also didn't do) then there's not much actually wrong with 5. Just not my cup of tea.

Code: Veronica fan here. I prefer it to Nemesis and it is the true sequel to the RE/RE2 storyline.

I think RE3 and CV are on equal terms as far as quality goes but for very different reasons, and it's strange to me that CV gets so much shit when it's honestly a better traditional RE than 3 is. That said, 3 is definitely more experimental and with that comes its own merits. Hell, it gave us the quick turn, I can't complain about that.

Sherry was a silly design tho, how much smaller she was than leon and claire. They even had to redo the model and make her taller.

some fuckin character model designer at capcom also didnt seem satisfied with the orginal model enough that he felt he needed to remodel her giant tits too, wtf.

Yeah, Revelations is the closest you're going to get to survival horror in modern RE games. I haven't played Rev2 yet but I hear they brought Barry back which is cool.

What's with this massive influx of RE threads all of a sudden

We're grieving

CV is odd. The graphics at the time were super impressive but it was weirdly missing things like the quick turn and the ability to walk up flights of stairs without having to press the action button.

RE threads have always been pretty common on Cred Forums in my experience.

Mainline are the best. Some spin offs are alright but mainline is where the good stuff is.

Play them in that order:

1-3, (optional: Code Veronica), REmake, 4, 5, 6

If you want more of the old stuff play Outbreak and 0. If you want more of the new stuff play Revelations 1 & 2. Stay away from the survivor games. If you have a Wii/Wii U there are the Umbrella Chronicles games which are fun rail shooters if that's your thing.

I don't know but I'm glad Jennifer Connelly gifs are now a standard part of them.

Why would you want to skip CV when you get to play as the best RE girl?

Part of that has to do with what that other user said - he wasn't joking when he said that CV is the true sequel to RE/RE2. Sony threw a shitfit about Nemesis being a side game so Capcom gave the "3" billing to Nemesis instead, but CV is indeed the actual RE3 while Nemesis is a side entry in all but name, hence why that one's actually a little weird mechanically. Forward thinking, but weird.

Its really good. And they make for good threads.

its because of the resident evil 4 HD port to PS4 and xbawks, this always happens when a new resi port happens, last years REmake release was glourious for weeks.

Connelley posting is lyfe.

How come there isn't a REG thread on /vg/? Like, ever. There are sometimes up to 4 RE related threads on \v\ but I've never seen a \vg\ one.

>optional: Code Veronica

It's the real Resident evil 3.

Literally, it was meant to actually be 3.

Giss people like them to mich to complain?

no way fag.

>best on dreamcast

Aren't the Gamecube versions a lot better?

What the fuck is that grammar

To be fair Nemesis does show the fate of Raccoon City and it would be the last time we got to play as Jill for like a decade. But yeah, it acts as more an epilogue for RE2.

And that inconsistent artstyle. That pic is fucking weird.

But user, how else are you going to play them on this??

You can play as best RE girl in 2 plus her outfit is sexier.

No but seriously, I know CV has a strong fanbase but let's be honest, it's one of the weaker RE games, it pales in comparison to the original PS1 trilogy. By the time it was released the formula got tired and the game brought nothing new really other than full 3D environments. Also I feel like it doesn't have the soul and atmosphere of the old school RE games and some enemies are pure bullshit.

I will definitely think will hear it, but not to cost ask.

Oh ok, Makes sense then

I think they're largely the same. Both versions feature all the bonus costumes available from the start IIRC. The DC version does have your health and ammo displayed on the VMU though.

Not dissing 3 but I would actually consider CV more mandatory playing than 3 because it's a more true continuation of the story.

Pretty much agree 3 just feels like 2.5 which it essentially is.

No way fag.

That is a sexy Dreamcast.

sauce

Agreed. I actually thought the Ashfords were interesting villains despite the bad voice acting. The soundtrack is also GOAT.

THERE WAS A FRIENDLY BUT NAIVE KING WHO WED A VERY NASTY QUEEN

To be fair i always thought she did say some shit like this, i still dont know what shes talking about all i know is Leon coulda taken care of his manhood for once byt hes too straight edge.

The line was something like. "How about a little overtime?" I think.

No u. a-user...

ALSO THIS WUN.

The hell is this comic? Context?

Is it supposed to be just a bad translation of the actual dialogue or something?

MUH DICK

that shit is beautiful

And the leon says no way fag. and she replies.... "Thats what i thought you SOMETHINg SOMETHING SOMETHING who was the hoe back there"

That's a very nice looking console.

At the end of RE4 Ashley implies she's ready for a good dicking and Leon says something along the lines of: pfft, yeah right

> still no source for OP
for shame

No shit, I'm asking what the point of this comic is.

It's just a sloppier version of all the ending dialogue.

Biocube by "Tsuka Jun" friend.

HERE IS YOU CONTEXT M7

no way fag.

RE1-4, REmake, Zero.

Is it so much to ask to see post-re5/6 jill?

I just want to play as her again.

CV is better than 0 unless you were counting that as part of 1-4.

No u dont user

Revelations happens between 5 and 6, if that's any consolation. It probably isn't but it's post-5.

All of the main games except 6 really

Revelations is between 4 and 5.

Revelations 2 is between 5 and 6.

My bad, got my timelines messed up there.

that's one ugly jill, fuck me

With a real fave model and everything.

>killed those two dudes for zero fucking reason
actually soured the whole thing for me. usually random deaths can be funny but this time it was presented differently. like, maliciously or something. however it was it definitely wasnt for laughs

check and mate.

Daily reminder: julia voth is only 31 now, do the math, how did she look like this in 2002?

I liked Code Veronica the most for some odd reason. 2 and nemesis are also great. 4 is worth checking out and 5 if you have a friend to play with. Remake of the first one was pretty damn good too. Zero too because Rebecca is my waifu

I like CV a lot too. The replica of the Spencer mansion main hall in the Antarctic base was actually a cool reveal.

Reminder that Wesker fapped to this.

As a 13 year old kid i had only completed resi 2 (in secret, sorry mum ;_;) but a while later I was allowed code Veronica so it was like the true direct sequel, then i went back to 3 later. that time you could still find resi 3 ps1 on some shelves sealed for like £10 thats how i got mine

Why wouldnt ya?

he had no choice after premoting his best girl out of her best uniform...

Why didn't Wesker personally make sure Rebecca was safe during RE1 if he had such a hard on for her

Huh?

More importantly, why did they never keep david bowie face Wesker?

Chap/10

I prefer his "annoyed douchebag" look in RE1.

It does have Chris pretty much raping a zombie girl though.

>they didnt even know if RE1 would be a success
>would they even know if they could do a sequel.
>there was no plan to develop Wesker beyond this
>he was still human anyway at this point.
>shades, on an operatikn at NIGHT.
>y?

We never ask the important questions.

Well, he is pitiful.

>jill and rebecca are not kissing anywhere in it... OR ANY WHERE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER REEEEEEEEEEE

name of the manga?. image search doesnt help

as expected of someone who is SLEEPING with the ULTIMATE FAILURE.

All of them are good on their own except for 0. 0 is just shit

Bruh... Biocube

not all heroes wear capes.

Because Wesker is a cool mother fucker and cool mother fuckers never take off their shades. Even while doing science.

0 has okay spots but I'd definitely call it a lesser RE. I'd sooner play it than 5 or 6, but that's just me.

>Reused another model to create different clothing for Rebecca

How low was RE0's budget; unless this mixup only applies to the HD version then I understand.

I love how shoddily Wesker's head is pasted onto that group photo.

Plus his girly pissy reaction to Chris laughing in his face.

>huh?
>Chris?
>Stop it! >=(

>wesker and Birkin have been "friends" and partners since they were like 18.
>the greatest minds in all of Arklay.
>wesker is always more alpha
>handsome, lifts, martial arts while not as smart (see: autistic, cmon will, would you rather be productive or popular)
>william still manages to fug a qt "not-jodie foster" Annettee.
>has a girl (kek)
>wesker has a chad son instead.
>years apart and in diffirent countries there kids meet and prolly sherry lets im blow his wesker genetics deep deep inside her.

Weskers wins again baby, and the birkin & wesker symbiosis carries on to another generation.

The same cowgirl model re using assets appears in ALL versions of REmake and Zero.

As another side note, they re did rebeccas exposed body for the basketball oitfit, her stmoach is diffirent from the gothic outfit she wears.

REmake > 4 > 2 > 0

A lot of people also like Code: Veronica but I could never really get into it.

I wonder if people would remember/feel diffirently about CV, if Capcom were able to call it "Resident Evil 3" like they had intended.

The same auhtor did a lot of porn of both of them anyways

The fuck is going on with that tank?

>Tiger turret and frontal armor
>Side looks sloped like a Marder/Leopard I

I didn´t like the atmosphere and the graphics.

So, what's the best version of each game? Please explain why (e.g. graphics, gameplay, bonus content, controllers). I'm leaving out 5 and 6 because IIRC, they run pretty much the same on all platforms (and they'd probably default to PC anyway due to effectively equal ports with modding), as well as any games that never got ported to another system.

>1: PS1, Saturn, PS1 Director's Cut, PS1 Dual Shock, PC, DS, REmake GameCube, REmake HD

>2: PS1, PS1 Dual Shock, PC, N64, Dreamcast, GameCube, PC DVD

>3: PS1, PC, Dreamcast, GameCube

>CV: Dreamcast, PS2, GameCube, HD

>0: GameCube, HD

>4: GameCube, crappy (but apparently mod-friendly, judging by all the YouTube videos) PC, PS2, Wii, HD, HD PC

>Umbrella/Darkside Chronicles: Wii, PS3

>Revelations: 3DS, HD

Hehe... y-yeah user?

please get it out.

user, why are you looking at that tank?

REmake Gamecube is just awesome, everything is there that you know and love and all the additional content is great. Graphics and atmosphere massively improved over the original. Haven´t played Remake HD, but apart from that the Gamecube version wins hands down.

Well i can at least say this user, if you buy a PS3 you can play all of those in one place.

BUT that list likely goes:

1REmake HD:PS4 xbawks, PC

2.camecube

3.gamecube

4. PS4 ver xbawks 1 or PC but only the steam version

CV:the PS3 PSN version.

Cant say for the rest, i have rev 1 & 2 on PS3 and some seem to argue Rev 2 is actually better on 3? Anybody with PS4 covert me?

Oh oh! Also amon if you can get this! Its nice to have physical, wish i had waited so i could order RE4 from america physical for my PSQuadriple.

RE1: REmake PC
RE2: Gamecube
RE3: Gamecube
RE4: Either wii due to the control scheme or PC HD for 60 fps and mod support
Railgun games: wii

I've only played through REmake on PS3 (only Jill's campaign thus far; working on Chris's now) and 4 on Wii.

I've also played some of 5 on PC before I ragequit at the whole cage sequence; very little of Outbreak, Code: Veronica, and 4 on PS2 (none of which I could really get into back in '07 or so); and 4 on PS3 (and I definitely miss the Wii's motion controls).

I own a PS3. It's what I just played Jill's half of REmake on, and I also have 4 for it (but I also own that on Wii, and somewhere I still have my PS2 copy).

Oh yeah, I forgot to add the Wii ports of 0 and REmake to the list. Are they any good?

I only have REmake on my wii and its pretty much the same game it was on GC

I hear archives ports are just the exact same 0 content or visual change, but you can choose to play with the wiimote as well as CH contoller.

Got it. I mostly wasn't sure if the motion controls made as much of a difference as they did with 4 (I was thinking not, due to the camera, but I've been wrong before).

Also, early in Jill's campaign, I died a lot on Hiking mode and ended up rage-wimping down to Walking. Once I'm done with Chris's campaign, will the other classic games (2, 3, CV, 0) be too much for a poor n00b like me (and I should thus try to at least clear Hiking difficulty)? I distinctly remember beating 4 on Normal (and I'm not touching Professional with a ten-foot-long pole).

You will probably find 2 easier in terms of simply running around enemies, its faster than remake, i reckon you will struggle with 3 at first because Nemi.

4 is its own thing and you should get better with time on normal. If you are finding REmake hard then you may feel 0 is being totally unfair. CV a hard one for me to call.

But keep at it user, one day you can get the platinum for REmake like i did :3

It is the 20th anniversary for RE this year!
Also RE7 and some recent re-releases have happened

>RE1
PS1 director's cut (make sure not to get "Director's Cut Dualshock edition") - it has remixed enemy/item locations, puts the autoaim back into the game (that was taken out of the original USA release), and retains the superior soundtrack. Plus some nice extra costumes. But that's besides the point; the point is that it's the best version of the first game (I consider REmake its own game, essentially).

>RE2/RE3
Dreamcast, because they improve the textures and a little bit of the model work, and have much more stable environments and none (IIRC) of that crinkly/wobbly "PS1 polygon" effect. They also come with nice extras, weapons, and costumes. That being said, RE2/3 on the PS1 are more than good enough, as they look and play great on the system. I heard the GC versions are comparable to the DC, but without a decent d-pad you will not enjoy the GC versions.

The N64 version of RE2 is notable if only for how the fuck were they able to fit a 2 disc game onto one N64 cart (answer: compressing the hell out of everything, but still).

>CV
Dreamcast. I don't like the gay cutscenes added to RE:CVX on the ps2, and imo the DC game looks better. I don't like it as much as the other REs though.

>RE4
I can only really compare the Wii, PS2, and GC, but I prefer the original, since I am not as huge a fan of the wiimote aiming as others (my older bro really likes it though). I haven't tried the HD PC release, but I bet that might be one of the better ones. The game is worth playing no matter how you play it though; seriously one of the best actiony games ever.

>I heard the GC versions are comparable to the DC, but without a decent d-pad you will not enjoy the GC versions.
IIRC, the pre-rendered cutscenes have better framerate, but otherwise they lack the extra content from the DC/Windows versions.

ah, that's no good then. I think I remember hearing that the PC ports themselves were also no good - to say nothing of the compatibility issues of running Windows 98/CE/XP[?] software nowadays.

...

Can someone post THAT RE4 comic?

No way fag?

Tfw yesterdays resi 4 thread had like 200 posters... But not today

So why are you posting this whore in every RE thread, again?

>Girls kissing other girls

This one?

She was so delicious in The Rocketeer, like a living pinup girl.

Too bad these days she's just a whiny, sagging, flat chested leftist.

Damn user, you aint incorrect.

Warning: CV HD on the PS3 has gamma issues. It might look waaaaaaaay too dark on your screen and the game has no brightness settings.

That said, Code Veronica (X) is a fantastic game totally undeserving of the hate it gates.

It has a little backtracking, but I the complaining about that comes from people who never played RE1 or REmake.

learn to love the fucking knife

g.e-hentai.org/g/298975/74419cc36a/

Skip 1, 2, 3, 0 and Code Veronica

4, 5, 6, Revelations 1+2 and Op Coon City are epic!

CV had a quick turn, what do you mean?

I agree about the stairs thing, that was an odd design choice.

I keep hearing about all these diffirences between OG CV & VC X im beggining to think i have never seem real orginal footage before, as in more tham just addedd scenes, and a haircut for steve, tgere were real noticible visual upgrades? Has anyone played the dreamcast orginal here?

wtf mfw

Yeah, same user you replied to. I've played the original dreamcast version.

CV X is the exact same game except they add some Wesker scenes and changed Steve's hair, pretty much.

movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=223548

Nevermind the website name, it tries to show you what the differences are.

No real visual upgrades. The PS2 and Dreamcast were the same console gen after all and Capcom was lazy with ports during this time.

Neat!
