It depends on when the game is set, judging from some of the guns it's in late 1918. But there are also weapons that were never actually put into production, where only ten of them were made before the weapon was scrapped.

The gameplay havent impressed me at all, the tanks move like they are running in the 90's, the planes are a joke, i'd say i'm dissapointed but i never expected accuracy in a BF game.

In the one map that it seems all gameplay is from, that desert one, there are a couple trenches, and there are gas that looks like it's put down by players. The Scout, I think it was, has a gas mask. and there certainly were shells flying over head, though I don't know if that was just ambiance for the map or a player in a tank or something.

It's certainly not realistic, or historically accurate, but the BF1 isn't going for that, sadly. They want a faster paced game of people running around, and in some fronts in the war it was like that.

I do agree with more rifles, but DICE, again, doesn't want all the classes to use the same weapons, they want them to have different effective ranges and so on. Which I don't really agree with, but with the lack of the more sedentary, "Bite and Hold" warfare, I suppose it works better, maybe? Wanting the classes to have different engagement ranges makes sense, but I feel that it's a mistake to not take the opportunity to make each classes gadgets more unique, interesting, and impactful.

Battlefield 1 looks pretty solid, and this coming from someone who only ever played BF3 for like 10 hours.

There are 10 gorgeous maps, and they are fucking huge. A bunch of new game modes from Team Deathmatch to a mode called Operations where it's 1+ hour and spans several maps as its own mini-campaign.

The gunplay looks pretty impressive visually, and I like the fact that they are taking liberties with WW1 and making it an alternate reality version. Here's some videos I found that piqued my curiosity:

They're adding French soldiers/maps in the first dlc. From what I was told by a friend who works with DICE, they scrambled to get it done and one day said fuck it, we'll do it in dlc. Apparently a few employees made a big deal about it, and just didn't have enough time to get it through.

Gas was delivered in a number of ways in WWI, user. From tear gas grenades to gas canisters planted in no mans land and shot when the enemy moved forward, to being brought down in artillery shells.

After playing the open beta, I think the game is garbage. The map they gave us (for conquest) was, and I hate using this word, LITERALLY obj point > sand. For A, E and I think G, you had to have a vehicle or horse and ride it for a full minute or longer across sand. B was less so, but was close enough. With all the other points clustered in the middle of the map, who thought that was a good idea? I can't even imagine what all the other maps are going to be like.

Then there was the ridiculous damage of guns where you could use a sniper rifle and one shot because you rarely hit limbs, but everything else took 4-5 bullets. Every gun just feels like a fucking peashooter. Not to mention the fact that they're pushing the "one handed pistol so cool" pose.

Other than that, nothing else is really -that- bad. People say the horse is OP, but I'd say the guns are fucking shit. Anybody with aim worth anything can kill a horse rider easy, but the horse could use less health. Too many blacks, but honestly I don't really care. The game ran well enough for me, no stuttering or anything worth mentioning. I honestly think it's just going to be a niche game for gaymurs. It's a genre that nobody actually wants, but said so because CoD fucked up with their trailer. Similar to Hardline, but that game was fun as fuck, or at least the Hardline specific game modes were.
