I've had to help clients navigate worse incidents, and had to fight tooth and nail with cops for certain actions to be taken on behalf of my client.

Funny enough, the advice "never talk to or trust the cops" has been in legal circles for years. I would tell people they need to know their 5th Amendment rights, know that all they ever need to provide cops is name and purpose, and they aren't legally required to provide anything else, and what to do when a cop flags you while driving.

I've been saying this kind of advice and helping clients deal with internet shit and police for a while.

It seems only recently the "don't talk to the cops" advice has somehow become taken as controversial and disrespectful to law enforcement.

The big trick is they are not actually there to 'serve and protect', that's a motto and they're not legally required to help you. In fact, they have quotas and are looking to fuck with you 9 times out of 10.

Likewise, if a cop stops you on the street and is talking to you, the "am I being detained?" gets added, because if not, you are free to keep walking.

If cops want to ask you anything related to a case or incident, call your attorney and also tell them you won't talk to them outside of the presence of your attorney.

You know the miranda rights? The "anything you say can and will be held against you in the court of law"? They never tell you "out of context"
