5 actually isn't outdated at all, but 4 could admittedly use some quality of life improvements. If you haven't played Thracia you should definitely give it a try, it's the best in the series imo and not as impossible as people say (Conquest Lunatic is far more bullshit, so if you can handle that you'll be fine).
