This game was so damn good, fuckin FNAF will ensure we never get a sequel. The art design is god tier.

I think I'll dump some backgrounds, makes for a great desktop

What would you like to see in a possible sequel?

>possible
probably meant "fan circlejerk sequel" but you get the point

How does Scott make this shit, anyway?
and fuck this damn 4MB limitation

keep this thread alive pls

Nice, I'm using this one for my wallpaper now.

As far as gameplay goes, I think at the base it's ok, but some stuff could be streamlined, like the platforming segments. Moving and shooting was ok, but a run button wouldn't go amiss.

Leave the battle system as is and make the simulations like SOTN or something and it'd be GOTY. More derelicts to pick from (4 party Max) would be sweet too.

The holy hand of god lol.

It's some kind of software that he's super familiar with, it's why he was able to crank out the freddie games so fast as far as I'm aware.

Pro-life is retarded, as long as something is part of your body it is your choice to do what you want with it.

I agree, people get waaaaay too bent out of shape over it. At least the game is still good in spite of it.

Complexity is what the gameplay generally revolves around, and if a possible sequel were to make it even more complex and full of depth I'd love that.

Have the Hover Pack be more like the Booster 2.0 from Cave Story, and make the platforming physics much more gravitational - the jumping in TDH felt floaty. Make areas bigger, increase the things to do in sub-games. Produce much more jizz-worthy scenery porn and it would be 11/10 GOTD.

This game is also a fun speedgame:
youtube.com/watch?v=T9QrAT4JeUQ

I don't actually want to thread to be political, all I want is a good TDH thread and I'll stop shilling this game

Did this game get any discussion in 2012 when it came out?

>Did this game get any discussion in 2012 when it came out?
Negative. Scott was a literally who before FNAF, hence why he only makes those games nowadays.

pre-freddy scott is as patrician as it gets

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Cawthon#Games

Damn, so still unappreciated.

The game has flaws (no pause button, no way to check Derelicts' stats, wonky platforming physics, percentage rating can go above 500% DK style) but at the very least it's worth a play.

Does anyone have a clean rip of all the backgrounds? Some guy on Steam dumped the battle textures, they're pretty cool.

Probably not, if it did I missed it. Didn't actually find out about it until a little after 5NAF was released, but man what a pleasant surprise it turned out to be. I saw the gameplay vid for the secret boss and was intrigued.

youtube.com/watch?v=VSAoggVnbb4

I do like how quick decision skills play into the battle system, but I don't think it would benefit from becoming too much more complicated, the balance was juuuuuuuust right between speed and multitasking. Some more diversity in the move pools wouldn't be bad though. I absolutely agree with the platform suggestions though, bigger world with better less floaty physics.

Sweet .gif, got more for the others?

Agreed, its not perfect, but I still had a blast and would rank it higher than a majority of the games I played in 2015.

>Did this game get any discussion in 2012 when it came out?
Quite literally like 2 threads probably. I remember when FNAF came out the very small number of fans would often shit post in FNAF threads because they were upset he went from making real games to making not games. Not that I blame the guy, he's a divorced father. The guy's life was probably saved by selling 10 dollar games that brought a lot of joy to a lot of retarded children.

I read up somewhere that one of the other criticisms of the game is that it "plays itself" at the end. I don't believe it's necessarily true, but they've got a point. To beat the later bosses easy, just spam Hack Chips on their Speed stat (some bosses become completely stunned if you use them enough) and spam Proto Wall and whatever other stunning move plus Toxin Lazer and it's very easy. If the game were to be retooled, make the viruses much harder.

I would personally added a "Hack Protection" stat to viruses, which requires it to be diminished to get effective hacks on the viruses - thus requiring skillful play to wear the stat down (whether it be by plainly attacking or some special move)

I'm not sure if many people know this, but there's a difficulty selection in the game. Pressing the left key when selecting a new file makes it harder - only by doubling bosses' health. It's dumb, but makes the battles more fun because there's more of them.

The Desolate Room had non-boss encounters, which could make the game a lot more fun (if the loading times were short, that is)

For the .gif, I just got the dumped battle files and put them through a .gif maker.

Scott...had a hard life. He's one of the most based christfags around. I hope after the FNAF movie and the new game he considers making a TDH sequel. He said he considered one, but never ever because autism is a wide and exploitable market

What is your favorite Derelict anons

...

The dead one that is sometimes summoned to fight

True. I can't really fault him for going where the money is and I'm glad things turned up roses for him.

That said, after 6 5NAF games I'd like to either see a sequel to this or at least SOMETHING different.

>I read up somewhere that one of the other criticisms of the game is that it "plays itself" at the end.

It does a little, Target's Revenge aside, but the same could be said for a lot of RPG's I think once you get the late game stuff.

>

That sounds dope and would go a good ways to help break up the flow and make the battles more stimulating.

>

Holy shit I did not know that. That's pretty cool.

>The Desolate Room had non-boss encounters, which could make the game a lot more fun (if the loading times were short, that is)

Eeeeeeehhhh that could go either way, and while I wouldn't mind more encounters I kind of like the way the game splits the resource gathering and platforming, leading up to the fight against the virus. Could be done well though, if, like you said the loading times were short. Haven't played the TDR but only cause I haven't been able to find it (admittedly not looking very hard, saw some videos but it look like a beta version of TDH to me but I could be wrong).

>What is your favorite Derelict anons

This motherfucker, though bio-beta is a close second.

Haha fucking saved. The derelicts really all do look like they would make kickass Stands.

Amos was pretty neat. Wish he was more fleshed out though

it says PWN on one of his monitors there, I didn't know that

It's on gamejolt but I couldn't get it to work for some reason - I followed the instructions on there, still wasn't doing so.

Here's the link for it (literally the first result for searching "the desolate room")

gamejolt.com/games/the-desolate-room/96922

I wish I could play it (I instead watched a shitty commentary playthrough of it as that seemed like the best quality I could get) but its story seems anticlimactic and the gameplay is a lot slower.

One plus that it did have is that each of the bots in the game had more than 8 moves and they could all be leveled up by a currency you got at the end of a fight. If a possible TDH sequel had move customization like that (perhaps even acquirable "move chips" in levels), it'd be pretty great. More customization, more complexity, more gameplay.

If the Night segments in TDH were replaced with the overhead scavenging of TDR that would be better, methinks.

If you're a Scott aficionado, and if you can get it to play, I'd say you should play it.

My favorite is probably Bio-Beta, then Alphus, then Malenz, then Mirad.

Is there any Desolate Hope r34?

If these .gifs look a little funky, blame the site I'm using

If anyone wants the dumped battle textures I'd be more than glad to grant those

Ah cool, thanks man, I'll twist one off and give it a go if I can.

Yeah the night segments more than anything else could use a revamp, as its mostly just walk to the left, pick up twinklies and maybe shoot some stuff.

I hope not, but knowing the internets it's out there somewhere, probably on deviantart or some backwater site.

What was your favorite battle? Mine was this cocksucker, partly cause of the design (fucking syringe metal dragon) and partly cause of how much trouble he game me, fuck hackworm. Felt awesome when I finished his final fight.

Awesome!

boingboingboing

>pick up twinklies
I read that as Twinkies.

In terms of design, Ger Garun probably looks the coolest, but in terms of a fight, PULSAR or Viren 4. If you're inexperienced, the insta-KO attack and 100,000 HP heal is bullshit. Make sure to set a conditional to Charge Tweak, reduce their health and their charge with it alongside hacking their speed and the game is an easy sweep. Viren 4 is fucking fast (I believe he has 1200 speed) and he will fuck you over quickly unless you are prepared. He gave me a lot of trouble when I was doing a hard mode playthrough.

I know Mirad isn't Haydee-levels of attractive, but my sick, sick curiosity wants to see her in a lewd.

There's a lot of frames that viruses use and it's really big as a file, so I'm just going to upload it on Imgur.

>yfw when

please keep this thread up, not stopping until I'm satisfied with the discussion as autistic as that may sound, I savior actual vidya discussion on Cred Forums

>too much Mt. Dew, not enough Ritalin.gif

Viren has the best battle theme

youtube.com/watch?v=O_9nnw3gFwc

It's a dangerous road user, don't dig too deep

>mfw

Cool! Got the counterbot?

The (You)s feel so good. Shilling a game never felt this fun.

The Counterbot has two seperate sets of animations; one for idling, and one for countering. I'll upload both.

The non-Viren boss battle is great as well. The soundtrack as a whole (even though Scott didn't compose them himself, he has good taste) is pretty fantastic.
youtube.com/watch?v=_-0cZ258lsw

Where do you think you are?

Unrelated, yet related, Scott said himself that he didn't really desire a pro-life message, more of a "kids who are in a hospital with cancer need an actual childhood too" message, which I seen himself proclaim on various articles.

The fetus was dissected aplenty for testing, but Coffee cared enough to give himself and the worn-down girl a childhood. The ending is good and wholesome, with Christian values. Whenever I see it after a replay I get a little sad.

Here's the other set. I do it for free

Cosigned, took some digging but I managed to get the whole thing. The normal battle theme is definitely the grooviest for sure. Betagrid 0.9 is great too.

youtube.com/watch?v=lioh3mC3e9Q

Good point, no escaping it I guess lol

I also liked the ending, happy(ish) end for all, and the derelicts finally got to catch up on the zzzzz's. If we get a sequel, dunno if I'd want the 5 bots to come back since it wrapped things up nicely for them, unless its a prologue or something.

These are pretty cool, you're a bro for putting them up, never got a chance to admire the animations with all the insanity going on mid battle.

I think a prologue would be neat - maybe you play as another D Co and you get to use Amos as an actual party member. I would prefer an actual sequel (just another story with the same yet expanded gameplay) and I'd be totally satisfied, but having something like that wouldn't go unappreciated.

Someone on Steam (or somewhere else I dunno) uploaded the whole soundtrack. They're royalty free songs (I got some copyright claims on my speedrun because of them, but they never ask for anything more than allowing advertisement) but that doesn't really matter in the end. It even includes the original boss theme from TDR, oddly.

>not posting the animated version

I had the .gif but lost it when my computer died of aids. Plus ya can't use it as a wallpaper.

The soundtrack was on a steam thread, I think I know what thread you were talking about, that's where I got them from.

This thread is making me want to play it again, especially since I know there's a hard mode now.

>all these prolife christards
back to fucking retards

I've got 55 autistic hours in this game from both playing it casually and speedrunning it. Currently I'm the only runner for the game and that's making me sad because there's a lot of potential in the routing and optimizing the battles.

The hard mode (Hot Coffee) isn't really all that different, but I guess being in the battles longer is engaging, I figure.

I know I'm a pre-FNAF Scott fanboy, but I feel like playing FNAF World. Should I try it out?

Someone needs the love of your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ

If you haven't noticed, this thread is a very thinly veiled The Desolate Hope thread, we don't really give a shit about its values, more the game itself

You fucking autistic loser. jk jk. So that vid you posted earlier was your run huh? That's cool, never would have pegged this game for one that would be good for speedruns. I may give it a go myself after hot coffee, any tips on shaving down time?

Can't tell you if World is good or not, haven't played it myself, though what I saw from the trailers looked like it had some TDH elements to it.

If it's like 5 bucks I would say get it to try it, just means you skip the double cheesburger tonight lol. Worst case the game is shit and you're out a Lincoln. Best case its not bad and you get a fun game for a few hours.

You think that this guy actually read any of the posts or played the game?

Watch my run for the general route; it's definitely improvable, but as of now it's probably the best place to look if you want to speedrun the game.

My big tip for steamrolling bosses is to first hack their speed, use one hack chip on the boosts, charge, get all minigames up, activate auto play and spam all your best moves. You can set which boosts the minigames earn you by clicking the icon in the upper right corner of each; in that run I used 3 minigames for speed/charge boost and 1 for attack, allowing the Derelicts to use their best attacks immediately after using the Charge boost.

One thing I really need to improve is memorizing the sub-game maps - I keep getting confused in them. I'm not sure what's the most optimal way to grind Bits out of them (that's what you'll be using to grind Bits).

It's an Any% run, so you don't have to go to all the sub-games to get the conditionals. The most useful conditional (I've found) in the game is "Charge Tweak." Use it to null a bosses' charge (no more fucking Vulnera/Sleep Mode/Cosmic Sponge, PULSAR) half a boss' health (again, PULSAR, bullshit Cosmic Sponge). With the rest of the Tweaks you get, invest in Strength to kill them faster.

Eliminate getting certain upgrades, sweep the boss with Charge Tweak (I made a list in my route of the game of what effect is best for each of the conditionals, if you want that I'll post it), use your strongest moves, yadda yadda, win. The game can probably go sub 1:35 real time, but I dunno.

Pic related - one of the best moves in the game. Use it often.

Nice. Thanks for the advice! Hacking the speed of the boss is usually the first thing I do anyways so it shouldn't be too hard.

That was another thing I really liked about this game, almost every move and tech can be tweaked and is useful in some way. Being able to literally hack the playing field is a novel concept and I wish more games would do it.

The only other game I can think of off the top of my head that does something simillar would be Disgaea in the way you can purchase "cheats" for in game currency.

Also Toxin Lazer sounds like it'd be a great song or band name lol

Are you interested in speedrunning the game?

A bit. I'm not a professional or anything but I do like to do it every now and again for a change of pace. The only games I've seriously tried to speedrun are the original DKC trilogy, Earthworm Jim 1/2, some Mario games and DMC 1-3

I'm sure you know my Youtube name by now (and I'm also on speedrun.com, same name) so if you're ever interested, you know who to call.

And that was years ago, before speedrunning became a wider thing, my skills have regressed since then so I'm out of practice. I remember one time I was at convention and they had vidya booths with all kinds of games, I played Megaman X and beat it in like an hour without dying at all. A few people stopped to watch and were pretty impressed. It was a good time because most people usually don't give a shit, not that I blame them, it IS a niche audience.

It's nice when people can come together and appreciate what cool things games do and how fun they are to play, even if it's for different reasons.

Nice, I'm not on the site but I may check it out, sounds interesting. I love these .gifs btw, been saving them all.

Actually, I've really been into speedrunning with this game, but I've been intrigued with TASing and speedruns for a few years. It's fun, and makes you put some more hours in games you love.

But enough off-topicness. Besides your favorite Derelict, what's your favorite battle move and simulation?

A fucking desolate hope thread? on Cred Forums?
>9 posters
Fuck, that is sad, at least tell me you guys got this battle
>youtube.com/watch?v=VSAoggVnbb4

Uh, user, he is not divorced, hell, his third child was born some months ago.

It was only kept up because I kept randomly posting .gifs to bump the thread.

Everyone who plays the game probably heard from it from that video, so I'm sure most TDH players know of Dummy's Revenge.

I don't get how is this pro-life, in the game context, the human fetus is literally THE LAST HUMAN in the universe, all what coffee wanted was just give her a childhood, as there was nothing else they could do for her.

DK, your weed looks extremely low quality. I'm sorry you buy ditch weed.

See that planet in the background? is the Earth, i wonder what happened, an asteroid or we fucked shit up?

The title of the thread was bait, don't sweat it. I believe Scott wanted a different moral, not of giving unborn children a childhood, but giving children with cancer a childhood. He's a christfag so that may have been assumed, but I believe his intentions were elsewhere.

>some years later the girl realizes that she is in a virtual world
>somehow becomes something like megaman.exe
>goes around the data of the base, reactivating the mechas and using their virtual selves as stands
>try to find a way to restore humanity

What about Coffee in the simulation? Does he still have his memories as a service bot?

How has nobody said Undertale yet? That game is nothing but a "killing is bad" psa.

What? pretty sure coffee off himself (and same with the "virus" that was the player), the girl only has the company of a virtual boy.

I swore Coffee was the boy in the simulation. The game never really explains if Coffee's mind lived on as the boy, even if his body is kill.

That's what I thought what happened to Coffee, anyway.

Why would be coffee? why not the player?

Battle move is the Space Lasers, they stood out to me in the secret boss video and was looking forward to what they did. The final result, meh could be stronger but I like the sound they make, very impactful. If we're talking individual derelict it'd be:

Malnez: Megacharge
When you have all the mingames going this becomes the rape button, its part of why malnez is my favorite. I like bruiser characters that can heal. He's like a robo paladin in combat style.
Mirad: Store Auto Play
The minigames are impossible with everything else otherwise. Guess I just suck lol.
Bio Beta: Toy Virus
The toy it turns into makes me lol. Also gave me some breathing room when I was still learning to play.
Alphus: Proto Wall
Fucking useful as hell, almost essential for some of the late game stuff.
Amos: Pep Talk
I feel like its his signature move, and it befits him somehow, the risen undead icebot from beyond the grave. The refresh saved me quite a few times, especially against the Viren battles.

Favorite simulation is Miradmoore, cause I have a boner for water levels.

Of course, I ain't no bitch. Was kinda let down that the music had a slower tempo during the fight, the music was a bit of a selling point for me. I love a good vidya ost.

I didn't either till I looked up the development stuff after I beat it. Even now I don't really care, the gameplay and artstyle is what drew me in.

K. Rool stole my good shit, I'll banana slamma his ass later.

I loled at that filename.

That sounds fucking dope, get Scott on the phone nao.

Maybe he could leave behind messages ala Dr. Light from Megaman X? I don't know I just want a fucking sequel goddammit.

Topic is bait, this thread is about The Desolate hope which you should play if you haven't yet.

Undertale was alright, soundtrack was ace and the gameplay was good enough. Don't know what's up with the fanbase though, jeez.

I recall in the last transmission in the ending, Coffee says "and maybe get to experience a childhood with you." Then, later, he says "was I successful, my little one?" He was, and that led me to think Coffee lived with the girl in the simulation.

D Co 9's fate I'm not so sure about.

>TDH world is the future of the FNAF
>already with insane top grade animatronic technology, scientists study the remains of the evil springtrap and managed to created the ultimate AI
>create the mechas and sent them to the moon
>AI in earth grown malevolent, no thanks to springtrap influence
>in the end, the AI destroys the world

What sound do these make, Cred Forums?

You think that someone who puts so much time into 3d modeling wouldn't be so god awful at it.

Nigga, you can say whateveer about scott, but not one can't deny that he designs crazy shit (but its humans are ugly, if he has to put humans, he should get someone else to design them).

Sounds like something Mat Pat would make up

Who?

OUM OUM OUM OUM OUMOUMOUMOUM!!! *crashcrashcrashcrashcrash*

Art is subjective yeah, but to say that the models look bad is just wrong. The people DO look uncanny, but the robots look sick.

Souldozer should be in more games. I'm amazed no one has contacted him for enemy art design, could you imagine a character action game with enemies like that? Platinum games needs to call this christian bitch and make some shit happen.

Nah, atlus needs to contact him.

Holy shit Cred Forums, I had never heard of this game before, f course I have heard of FNAF, but it is not really my thing, but Desolate Hope looks extremely interesting, and it is free too.

I don't often get games based on Cred Forums threads or recommendations, but this looks pretty unique. Thanks.

Game Theory guy

No, it goes like UMI UMI UMI UMI UMI UMI UMI

Anyone needs to hire Scott, his designs (anything but humans, please no) is abstract yet cool as fuck. Especially robot designs.

We do it for free. Enjoy!

what kind of little big planet is this?

twitch /xx2shy

Ironically, it was built by the most edgy looking of the mechas.

Where does Malenz rank on this?

Just by look? Donte level
Personality? nowhere in that graph.

Also an acceptable answer.

It is quite good. Not the best game ever but I liked it a lot more than some other stuff I played that year. Plus it's free now so you can't really beat that in terms of price.

Lol I think you're closer than me. The sfx were all bretty good now that I think of it. The virus attacks were all great too. Except hackworm. Fuck hackworm.

It's the first derelict's simutaltion you go into, this one to be specific.

It's funny, that's what I thought the first time I went in too.

Visually in between Shadow and FUCK YOU.

But personality wise he's not really edgy at all.

What does Coffee's coffee taste like?

>Ryuuko
>Edgy

ok

People judge just for her looks.

Seems like this thread is dying down. It was a good run, anons. Let's hope that Scott makes The Desolate Abandon happen, some time in our lives.

I remember when i made a TDH thread that got bump limit, but was because two christianfags keep bumping it with their shitty debate.

At least we got a good discussion, this time. I'm going to try out FNAF World, that seems like it will satisfy the lack of TDH in my life.
