How would you have fixed it?

how would you have fixed it?

>implying it needed fixing
Fuck off.

Not fuck up the Saturn, for one

Give it a DVD player so all the fucking normies and niggers buy one and then all the devs make shovel ware shit for it. 10 years down the line everyone will think it's the best console ever because it had a thousand terrible games and every poor person had one because it was the cheapest dvd player on the market for 4 years

yeah im sure being able to play burned games without modding the system isnt a problem at all, faggot.

Add a DVD player in it instead of using the GD-ROMs crap.
THIS.

this tbqhwyf, sega fucked up by only marketing this to the hardcore gamers and not a broader audience like the ps2 did

it lost because it wasn't a dvd player. i'm sure piracy didnt help since you didnt even need to mod it.

It should have been the Sega US design, not the Sega Japan design

Add a second analog stick so I could play that one fucking mecha game I don't remember the name of.

Of course it was. It was soooooo problematic me being able to play 2k1, Virtua Tennis 3, Crazy Taxi and a host of others without paying for them, I don't even know what sustaine- oh wait no, that's literally the reason I bought the console. And 18(!) games on it.

The D-pad was honestly only slightly better than the GameCube's. Flatten it and broaden it. Actually, replace it with the Saturn D-pad. Also, slightly wider handles.
There you go. 10/10 console. Not a single flaw.

first of all whoever designed the controller wire to come from the bottom of the controller instead of the top is fucking retarded.

second, abandon mil-CD support. that's the reason why Dreamcast piracy even became a thing.

third and final thing is they should have included a software reset button on the console instead of having some complicated control input method to reset.

>missing the point of this thread

>first of all whoever designed the controller wire to come from the bottom of the controller instead of the top is fucking retarded.

they couldnt because the vmu was in the way

there's a little groove on the back of the control where you can stick the wire in.

>implying this thread has a point

Anyone who wasn't a child when the Dreamcast came out knew it was destined to fail commercially and that Sega was going under. It had -zero- chance of catching up to the hype machine the PS (and news of the PS2) had rolling for it and Sammy was tightening the noose. And it -still- gave us the last hurrah of a dying genre, that of arcade games, (as well as a handful of unique originals) with arcade quality by Sega splitting up the AM studios and allowing them a fair amount of creative freedom. It had one trump card in the online capabilities and it fucked it up on launch and was still too far ahead of the times of cheap routers w/ wifi being a household norm, so that trump card was wasted on a shitty hand.

And it's perfect the way it is.

Nintendo should have died in the console race, not Sega.

Nintendo actually played their cards right though. As much as it hurts to admit it, SEGA deserved to drop out.
Now, Microsoft...

>Nintendo playing their cards right
>WiiU

>third and final thing is they should have included a software reset button on the console instead of having some complicated control input method to reset.
Better yet, make it standard that games need a back-out button (yes even arcade ports) so that soft-resetting isn't necessary

Wait a year more to release it in Japan, use DVD, see if waiting a year is enough to be able to give the thing 4MB more RAM.

Ideally, don't fuck up the Saturn, which is what hurt it more than anything else. Run a vicious ad campaign lambasting Sony.

oh, and make the controller pretty much be the Saturn 3D controller in terms of build and feeling, just make it look cool like the DC controller we got

Sega deserved it, you don't make as many mistakes in such a short period of time without going under.

Saturn mightn't have ever truly succeeded, but I'm absolutely convinced that Sega would still be in the console business if they never did the early launch.
also, not releasing 32X would have been good

>fuck up majorly on hardware, get a few gems while the competition had dozens upon dozens and get carried to the end of the gen strictly for your tradition
>get hardware right, fuck up media again, put developers on a tight leash so your library is poor as fuck and you end up losing against the poor gameless imitation of the Dreamcast
>played their cards right
Fuck no. Nintendo should have been out of the hardware market by the end of the Gamecube. The Wii succeeding as it was only confirmed they can get away with anything.

Yet, somehow, SEGA fucked up even harder.

If anything, the Wii succeeding prove they could either by knowledge or chance, predict the increasing commonality of consoles and casualization of videogames. That's no small accomplishment by any means.

6 face buttons, 2 analogues.

Fan that isn't louder than the game's soundtrack.

Something to move those load times along.

Saturn 3D controller was one of the most comfy I've held ever.

This is why Nintendo will go the way of the SEGA after NX. They don't understand the Western market and how the family entertainment center has changed.

The console really didn't need fixing, it was just Sega was in such poor financial standing.

The Mil-CD support enabling piracy was a huge oversight but I'm glad it's there as it's allowed the homebrew and independent game scene to thrive. The Dreamcast has been getting continuous small releases that is still ongoing.

A second analog.
Two more buttons.

At best just give it a DVD player. The console itself died out due to past fuck ups like the Saturn, 32X, Nomad, and all that other stuff.
You still would have had to kill off the Gameboy, and the DS. Good luck with that.

it wasn't

are you fucking joking?
by the time people could mod it, it was already dead because sega said "we're leaving the console game" in 2000. the system was dead already man, i even knew it even thought i owned a good portion of the library.

it just had good arcade ports and a few sega gems left in the crown before becoming rusted.

>dreamcast
>wifi even existing in 2000

the fuck?

Honestly, outside of the controller design and choice of GD-ROM instead DVD, the Dreamcast did nothing majorly wrong.
It was sadly doomed to fail because of what happened BEFORE the fact:
A history of in-house fighting between divisions, combined with poor management, oversaturation of the global market, the failure of the Game Gear and 32X, the colossal failure that was the Saturn outside of Japan, the early release of the Saturn pissing off retailers and developers alike.

Basically, SEGA making current Konami/EA/Nintendo-level blunders is what killed them as a console company.

it means the dc came before wifi, how's that reading comprehension?

controller wire on top instead of bottom.

Publicly execute people that pirated the games. It's not too late.

Having actual games instead of ports

you'd kill pretty much every DC owner

Kek. Cry more faggot. The better console won

DVD was too expensive at the time to put into the system. DVD players at the time were several hundred dollars.

Better controller and not trying to compete with the PS2.

Sammy had nothing to do with Sega or Dreamcast. Sammy didn't start to have relations with Sega for another 2 years after the Dreamcast was discontinued and the PS2 was already on the market.

It fixed everything about the hardware it could.

The software business was already killed dead by the Saturn.

You should read the story about SoA and SoJ if you haven't already. It's legitimately insane.

What story?

Pissing match between Sega of America, Sega of Japan, and to a lesser extent the Arcade divisions in general about where the company would go.

Lead to a company that was leaderless, so America built the 32x, Japan the Saturn, and Yu Suzuki was told to go fuck himself.

The Dreamcast was created to get everyone back under one banner, but the damage was already done, the third parties were mostly gone.

This. That's what killed it.

Give it better piracy protection to make developers want to actually put their games on the console

Give it DVD support

Put SEGA of America in control of SEGA internationally and only allow SEGA of Japan to develop games

>The Dreamcast was created to get everyone back under one banne
not really there two projects for the dreamcast the katana (japan) and the blackbelt (usa) the dreamcast is the katana the engineers of the blackbelt leave to Microsoft after katana is chosen to be the dreamcast

>Sega of America in charge
So the same outcome then?

IIRC Americans designed the 32X but it was SoJ who ordered it, as a budget alternative for people who couldn't afford a brand new console. Of course, those people just got a PS1 instead.

SEGA of America actually had their shit together. Thats why the Dreamcast had the one of best launches ever in the US. SEGA of Japan fucking sucked.

>Japan in charge of sega
Also ran's in the USA in charge of sega
Over half the marketshare in America and Euroland.

You know one of the stories from that era is that the head of SoJ would berate his management team in meetings screaming 'why can't you be like the Americans'.

Sega stretched themselves too thin in the market. Having too many options, too many competitors and didn't buckle down and focus on quality. Lots of companies were victims of these in the 90's. Trying to compete with multiple options and extreme accessibility to consumers rather than generating actual demand for their product.

Since we're all being delusional, it should of had a bluray player.
